This episode originally broadcast on January 23, 2025. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2025/01/binary-system-podcast-442-star-trek-lower-decks-beastars-and-bojack-horseman/ Second verse, same as the first: we're back this week to talk about Star Trek: Lower Decks (the Star Trek future is the best future: good hearted and occasionally sexy!) and Beastars (okay but WHY did Louis say he was a virgin, does having sex with Haru not count? Did they actually HAVE sex?), and fangirling about the 1980s cartoon Mighty Orbots (yes it's often silly but we love it and despite the shortcuts the animation is surprisingly good) We finish up with Elizabeth's rewatch of Bojack Horseman, and the downright scary similarity between his public “apology” and Neil Gaiman's response to the allegations against him. I mean, the episode is five years old and it's like Neil was taking notes… Keep an eye out here for Kathryn's upcoming crossover with the Mid-Life Crisis Task Force! This week's outro is an oldie but a goodie, a clip from Calm the Fuck Down by Broke For Free. Looking for a present for that hard-to-shop-for person? Episode Notes The original 5 podcast episodes combined to equal around 5 hours and 30 minutes. This podcast compilation makes it 4 hours and 30 minutes. Most edits were the TV theme (and its other international versions), most intros and extros of ourselves, some off-topic conversations, along with the many, many rants of Space Adventure Cobra that appeared in every single episode. In this interview recorded at Wizard World's Nola 10th Anniversary I talk with Emmy-nominated, Producer/Director of The X-Men Animated Series, the phenomenally successful 1990s series that was part of the foundation that helped launch Marvel's multi-billion-dollar franchises. We talk in depth about his career in animation having been hired by Filmation as the FIRST African American Saturday Morning Storyboard Artist, he storyboarded and directed some of the favorite 80s and 90s classic shows such as Thundarr, Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends, GI Joe, GI Joe The Movie Intro, Mr.T, Batman, Jonny Quest, Teenage mutant Ninja Turtles, Captain Planet, The Fantastic Four, Mighty Orbots, Bionic Six, ExoSquad, Bucky O'Hare, Jem, Galtar, C.O.P.S., Spawn, Ultimate Avengers II, Community and Kid N' Play. We also talk about some of his upcoming projects, including his graphic novels. For more info visit: https://www.larry-houston.com/
Hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi and William Thrasher discuss Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. Captain Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) takes a crew of pirates to rescue Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) from a bizarre underworld. Now in possession of Davey Jones' (Bill Nighy) heart, the East India Trading Company uses his tentacled help to start their final assault to get of pirates once and for all. Finishing up the half dozen plot threads from Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, this third film in the series has a more confident story and pace. A concept of Pirate Lords from around the globe helps freshen up the franchise, as does a large scale battle between pirate ships in the midst of a supernatural storm. Mat enjoys the cinematography and deliberate pacing of Unbreakable, the first film in M. Night Shyamalan's superhero trilogy. Thrasher was amused by Mighty Orbots, a short-lived animated Transformers knock-off from the 1980s. The next few movie series we'll be covering are: Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011) Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017) The Fugitive (1993) U.S. Marshals (1998) Follow the show on Twitter @Sequelcast2 Like our Sequelcast 2 Facebook Page The theme song to the Sequelcast is written and performed by Marc with a C. Before we tackle Transformers Prime, we take a look at a forgotten 80s robot cartoon called Mighty Orbots! Why is the animation in this show so darn good? Will the plural singular of the combiner's name break Jen's editor brain? Magnets: How do they work? Join us this week for the first episode of this obscure gem, "Magnetic Menace"!
This week we return to the 80's to enjoy one of Richard's favorites. The Mighty Orbots
WHO ARE/IS MIGHTY ORBOTS!? Andrew has no idea, he's never heard of this. But one of our listeners requested it, so we're diving into this extremely frenetic, bizarre, but immaculately rendered 80s cartoon. Does putting on a change of clothes actually transform you into their purpose? What are the grammatical logistics behind plural names used for singular beings? Is this cartoon just a secret backdoor Scientology tract? PLUS! Is this even a superhero thing, and if so are we opening a door to basically every 80s cartoon ever? We'll find out today!

Shawn has a uber pop-culture conversation with award-winning Artist/Creator Jamal Igle. They talk about being art fiends, what makes for a great comic book, Jack Kirby, Rob Liefeld, reading experiences, cartoons, television and toys of yesteryear, the DC 52 relaunch, why we watched the live action Shazam and Superboy tv shows, and so much more. Bonus listener points to anyone who knows about Jason of Star Command and Mighty Orbots.
What are the great cartoons of your childhood? Did you watch Dungeons & Dragons or Super Friends (or the Super Powers show)? Remember Hanna Barbera classics like Thundarr the Barbarian and the Herculoids before Adult Swim caught hold of them? Of were you a robot man? Did you follow Voltron and the Mighty Orbots? Were you a Transformers man or did you favor the Gobots instead? Remember the Batman Animated Series and the awesomeness of the Tick? Everyone watched He-Man and GI Joe, but do you remember Plastic Man and the original Space Ghost? Remember the Real Ghostbusters and the original Ghostbusters (with the gorilla in it)? How about Galaxy High, Teen Wolf and Turbo Teen? The boys talk about these and all the toys that went with them (whatever happened to the Shogun Warriors anyway?), and somewhere in this still have time to discuss cinematic gems like Star Crash and Space Mutiny (the one that used the special FX from the original Battlestar Galactica TV show); we even talk about the Captain America TV movies a little. This show's got it all, folks...
