When Dynamite solicited the return of The Herculoids into the comics medium, I was immediately concerned. Oh no, who's writing it? It is such a beloved childhood property of mine. Who could do it justice? Then my fears were allayed when saw Tom Sniegoski was at the reins. Given his background working on other major properties like Hellboy and Vampirella with their own distinct and important legacies, I knew he'd be the perfect fit. I'd been meaning to catch up with Tom for quite some time now so this was the perfect opportunity to get him back on the show to dive into what turns out is a shared love of this weird old Hanna Barbera cartoon property. In the episode, Tom shares his childhood connection to it, the challenges of translating all these non-speaking creatures front and center in comic book form, and the collaboration process with artist Craig Rousseau to interpret the original designs of Alex Toth. We also carve out some time to hear about his other projects and how comics can engage new young readers, something I always seem to be bringing up lately. The Herculoids hits shelves this February. Make sure to call your shop and reserve a copy. That Mignola cover will move fast y'all. From the publisher Building on the success of the critically acclaimed and bestselling Space Ghost series, Dynamite Entertainment is proud to bring another beloved Hanna-Barbera classic to readers this February - The Herculoids! Hidden in the furthest reaches of space, the planet of Amzot is legendary for its fabled riches - and for the terrible fates that befall anybody who seeks to exploit them... Those who survive their encounters tell blood-chilling tales of horrific, imposing monsters that guard the mysterious world - yet the lure of its abundant resources is too great to resist. Raiders and pirates continue to come from across the galaxy, and there is only one force strong enough to stop their constant attacks - The Herculoids! But as strong as these defenders are, a recent battle may have pushed Amzot to its limits - and awakened a sleeping darkness within the planet itself! Written by TOM SNIEGOSKI (Vampirella, Hellboy) and drawn by CRAIG ROUSSEAU (Batman Beyond, Gotham Adventures), The Herculoids #1 features a wealth of covers from some of the galaxy's most talented artists, including FRANCESCO MATTINA, JOSEPH MICHAEL LINSNER, BJORN BARENDS, FELIPE MASSAFERA, and the legendary creator of Hellboy, MIKE MIGNOLA! It's special episode #675 this week, and to celebrate, I talk with Tom Sniegoski, who is the scripter for the upcoming Herculoids series from Dynamite Entertainment! Tom and I talk about the animated series that started it all as well as take a deep dive into the various characters and what made this show a favorite of fans even decades later! Here's how the comic is described: “The legendary planet of Amzot sits in the far reaches of deepest, darkest space. It's a planet of extreme riches, but those who seek it out are routinely struck by untold disaster and terrible fates. Anyone who manages to survive to tell the tale speaks of horrific, imposing guardian monsters that protect it. Yet raiders and explorers continue coming, only to meet the Herculoids again and again! Set to debut in February 2025, the creators invite fans to adventure with the Herculoids as they protect their home, and even they will learn even bigger secrets about their planet.” Tom also discusses the art from collaborator Craig Rousseau, which many fans are also already looking forward to enjoying! Many of us played with plastic "guys" when we were kids. Specifically action figures from our favorite cartoons and movies. This episode is all about the phenomenon of modern day companies like NECA, Super7, Storm Collectibles, Boss Fight Studios and others who are putting out insanely high quality figures of these same properties we loved as kids! Each host picked 2 lines of these TOYS OUTTA TIME to spotlight. Expect stuff like TMNT, Bucky O'Hare, Silverhawks, Battletoads, Herculoids, He-Man and more! Along for the ride we have a dear friend, Andy Zamon who, aside from being one of the most prolific figure collectors we know, is also the artist behind Z-3D Forge, which is THE place to go for your custom figure bases! ----------------------------------------Retro Ridoctopus is:• Parasite Steve (read)• 8-Bit Alchemy (listen) • Coopster Gold (join) • Nintenjoe (subscribe)----------------------------------------All original heavy metal music by Enchanted Exile

MONSTER PARTY GETS... WAY OUT! WAY OUT! SHAWN SHERIDAN, JAMES GONIS, LARRY STROTHE, and MATT WEINHOLD, pack their audio pic-a-nic baskets, for a journey through animation history! Join us for a wacky race into the exciting world of... HANNA-BARBERA! WILLIAM HANNA and JOSEPH BARBERA were the innovative team behind many of the world's favorite cartoons. Over their long career, they were responsible for such memorable characters as TOM & JERRY, THE FLINTSTONES, YOGI BEAR, THE JETSONS, SCOOBY DOO, HUCKLEBERRY HOUND, TOP CAT, SECRET SQUIRREL, HONG KONG PHOOEY, THE WACKY RACES, ATOM ANT, SNAGGLEPUSS, JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS, WAIT TILL YOUR FATHER GETS HOME, and HUNDREDS more! HANNA-BARBERA also blazed a trail when it came to producing adventure cartoons. This was the team that brought us JONNY QUEST, SPACE GHOST, THE HERCULOIDS, THE FANTASTIC FOUR, SUPER FRIENDS, SHAZZAN, VALLEY OF THE DINOSAURS, and many other fantastical Saturday morning staples. Not satisfied with the status quo, HANNA and BARBERA ventured out into the world of feature films, giving us THE MAN CALLED FLINTSTONE, HEY THERE, IT'S YOGI BEAR!, and the beloved animated classic, CHARLOTTE'S WEB. If that's not enough for you folks, they even tackled live-action with THE BANANA SPLITS ADVENTURE HOUR, DANGER ISLAND, MYSTERY ISLAND, and the under-appreciated live-action/animation hybrid, THE NEW ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN! Of course, we don't have the space to list all of HANNA-BARBERA'S achievements. That's what the episode is for. But, speaking of that! There was only one guest we could have booked for this epic topic. He's a friend of the show, appearing (along with fellow MP friend, CONSTANTINE NASR) on our CHRISTMAS SPECIALS episode, and has an awe-inspiring resume. He's a two-time Grammy-nominated and Addy-winning freelance writer, editor, and producer with 30 years of magic with The Walt Disney Company and over 40 years of professional writing and production experience! He's the author of MOUSE TRACKS: THE STORY OF WALT DISNEY RECORDS, and the recent (and dare we say, timely) book... HANNA-BARBERA: THE RECORDED HISTORY- FROM MODERN STONE AGE TO MEDDLING KIDS. It's finally here, When It Was Cool looks back at the classic Hanna-Barbara space monster cartoon series The Herculoids! This cartoon series was a favorite of mine back when I was a kid and thanks to our wonderful Patreon member Andy I now have the complete series, so let's dive in! Wait a minute... basically every episode is exactly the same just swapping out robots for aliens here and there. Who cares?! There is a triceratops that shoots exploding rocks out of its horn, a laser beam shooting dragon, a giant rock ape, and two lumps of goop. And they kill people about every episode. The 1960's didn't care about your triggers. ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?

Limited Cel - A Generational Hanna-Barbera Cartoon Review Show
This week, we return to space! Yes, that space. The one you know and love. And what’s that? Space Ghost is back?! And to a lesser extent, the Herculoids?! AWESOME!…? Limited Cel is a podcast where two generations of cartoon watchers sit down and watch ever series their favorite cartoon producers ever made. Join Nick (the son) and Mike (the dad) Wood as they watch, catalog, and review some of the best and the worst Hanna-Barbera has to offer.
Dads come in all shapes, sizes, and colors (even blue), so shazbazzar and JediShua take time for some Dad-discussions about fictional fathers from Saturday morning cartoons to movies on the big screen with an extended chat about the father who assumed the title of Mom… Mr. Mom, that is. Saturday Mornings For kids of the ‘70s and ‘80s, cartoon fathers were part of the cartoon watching experience. From shows that were #TechnoRetro in the ‘70s like The Flintstones and The Jetsons to The Smurfs, The Chipmunks, The Transformers, M.A.S.K., Dungeons & Dragons, and Ewoks, animated fathers and father-figures on Saturday mornings and weekday afternoons took charge and taught lessons to the TechnoRetro Dads of today. Let’s Go to the Movies With a bit more “techno” than there was in the Saturday Morning discussion, Father’s Day is a good time to look at memorable fathers on the big screen like cinema icons Mufasa and Darth Vader, respectable Henry Jones, Sr. and the President of the United States, heroic Chief Brody and Mr. Incredible, and homemakers like Mrs. Doubtfire. Dads can be funny and strong or scary and cuddly — in the end, these fathers are just like many dads today. Mr. Mom Before he took on the Joker in Batman (1989), Michael Keaton battled the stench of diapers, the temptations of neighborhood wives, the public address systems of supermarkets, and the comfort of the couch in Mr. Mom. After losing his job, Jack Butler earned the title of Mr. Mom in this riotous comedy from 1983 as he made grilled cheese sandwiches with an iron, fed chili to a baby, competed in office olympics, and won his wife’s heart (again). JediShua and shazbazzar have a blast reliving the laughs this Father’s Day with Mr. Mom. Who says Dad can’t cook? Thanks for tuning in to TechnoRetro Dads, EarBuds! Beware of Gremlins online when logging on to your favorite TechnoRetro websites on iTunes, Apple Podcasts, RetroZap.com or TechnoRetroDads.libsyn.com. Don’t forget to rate and review TechnoRetro Dads on iTunes, share us and with us on social media, get TechnoRetro merchandise at TeePublic, and join discussions on Discord about toys, cereal, games, movies and/or shows from the ‘70s and ‘80s by giving the ‘Dads your feedback via voice mail at (209) 878-7323 or sending us your mp3dback via electronic-M to podcast@TechnoRetroDads.com.
Host, Dany Roth, is joined by creator for the upcoming Sword and Scandal podcast, Chico Leo, to talk about Alex Toth, Herculoids, and the evolution of sci-fi storytelling in animation.

The Steeven Orr Else Podcast #22 - Future Quest Volume One This week I'm talking Future Quest Volume One from DC. Johnny Quest. Space Ghost. The Herculoids. Is there any more reason to listen to this episode!?Here's another reason: Laugh at my feeble, old man brain as I struggle to remember, and fail, many of the character names in a book I'd read just days earlier.Music by Adam WarRock. Greetings, PROGRAMS! The greatest dystopia is when the story ends with a brighter hope for the future. Comic Con always has some exciting things to enjoy now and in the future. Limited Cel - A Generational Hanna-Barbera Cartoon Review Show
This week we focus in on The Herculoids! This gem from Alex Toth mixes sci-fi, cavemen, and fantasy. Does it work? I’m still not sure.
Episode #297 features the return of scripter Jeff Parker, who I had the privilege of interviewing during the recent Baltimore Comic-Con! We talked about his work on the excellent Future Quest comic for DC, and how much he enjoys writing the various classic Saturday morning characters including the Herculoids, Space Ghost, Birdman, Mightor and Jonny Quest. He talks his favorites as well as what we might expect from this title in the near future. Since I’ve talked with Jeff before, I thought I’d include that interview in this episode as well. At that time, Jeff was working on Aquaman and Batman ’66 for DC Comics, and he talked about how he landed those gigs, among other things. I also chatted with him about his other work, including Underground, a fascinating trade paperback! Don’t miss this Jeff Parker spectacular! It's H this episode, and due to Mitch's excitement stemming from the comic “Future Quest”, we chose the 1967 Hanna-Barbera classic, “The Herculoids”. Set on a far-off planet, this team of heroes protect their world from alien invaders. Sure, there was a lot of nostalgia in re-watching these old cartoons, but Joe found it hard to get passed as little something missing that neither of us realised back when we were kids.

Lords of light! Just in time for DragonCon 2016, we're flashing back to DragonCon 2015 for a panel about Thundarr the Barbarian! Yes, Kevin and a bunch more sleep-deprived maniacs from the American Sci-Fi Classics Track look back at our favorite post-apocalyptic Saturday morning cartoon hero. In Thundarr's world, the horses had beaks, the rats had stylish scarves, and nobody -- certainly not Ookla the Mok -- wore pants. It was glorious. Our conversation drifts to other Saturday morning science fiction favorites too: Space Ghost, Herculoids, Jason of Star Command, Gilligan's Planet... yikes, now all you need is a big bowl of Cookie Crisp (like we had at the panel -- yes, Joe brought cereal). Plus: Back in Chickentown, Kevin and Kornflake watch a very special Thundarr episode in which Thundarr goes to Boston! (A crumbling post-apocalyptic version of Boston, that is... but in a way, it's frighteningly accurate.) Thundarr's Boston episode is called "City of Evil." Write your own punchline; we're still sleepy.

Hosts: Jim, Jon & KentGuest: Scott RocheOur latest world is a mashup of the Western, Sci-Fi and Horror genres with a slight touch of Steampunk thrown in for flavor. Not long before the turn of the 20th century, a group of scientists led by Nikola Tesla are caught in a war. To one side are the carriers of a lycanthropic virus - some want a cure, but others want only to take advantage of their newfound transformations. To the other are hordes of dead soldiers reanimated by the US government. Some say it's only a matter of time before the whole thing erupts into a second Civil War.Want to find Scott online? The guys bring back Riddle Me This by recasting Josie and the Pussycats with Disney Princesses to less than stellar results and the winner of the Firefly Draft is revealed! We talk a walk down memory lane with our Top 5 Childhood Cartoons, which turns into a heated argument about what the heck Herculoids are!
I remember a lot about my youth. If it didn't involve sports, it was a close second to television. Back when things where still drawn in this country, their existed shows that relied on a lot of current events. Spies and space travel was the order of the day and a lot of cartoon shows back then were based on that. Jonny Quest had the espionage and the suspense, The Herculoids had strange creatures on other worlds and the Banana Splits showed just how kooky we all had become because of it. From the late 50's to the early or middle 90's, animation rules the weekend mornings. Only shows like Quest or the Flintstones had the attention of the prime time audiences but showed that studios such as Hanna Barbara were the kings of their day. I want to retain knowledge of what kept my spirits up back then. From Bugs to Daffy to Space Ghost and Grape ape, I remember my happiest time as a child. I remember the songs and the marketable items associated with what I enjoyed the most. I enjoyed cartoons and old tv shows of all sorts. Welcome to CARTOONS AND CEREAL. Escape the day to day and come here if you can. I'll roll back the tape for you. I'll send you back to your youth.

What are the great cartoons of your childhood? Did you watch Dungeons & Dragons or Super Friends (or the Super Powers show)? Remember Hanna Barbera classics like Thundarr the Barbarian and the Herculoids before Adult Swim caught hold of them? Of were you a robot man? Did you follow Voltron and the Mighty Orbots? Were you a Transformers man or did you favor the Gobots instead? Remember the Batman Animated Series and the awesomeness of the Tick? Everyone watched He-Man and GI Joe, but do you remember Plastic Man and the original Space Ghost? Remember the Real Ghostbusters and the original Ghostbusters (with the gorilla in it)? How about Galaxy High, Teen Wolf and Turbo Teen? The boys talk about these and all the toys that went with them (whatever happened to the Shogun Warriors anyway?), and somewhere in this still have time to discuss cinematic gems like Star Crash and Space Mutiny (the one that used the special FX from the original Battlestar Galactica TV show); we even talk about the Captain America TV movies a little. This show's got it all, folks...
