Author Ken Liu was born in China in 1976, and his family emigrated to the U.S. when he was 11. He has published multiple collections of short stories and an epic series of novels. Several of his works have been made into films , including “Good Hunting,” which was part of the Netflix animated anthology series Love, Death and Robots. He's also known for translating the Chinese sci-fi series known as The Three Body Problem. Based in the Boston suburbs, Liu visited Central Illinois back in 2024 for a talk at the Champaign Public Library on art and artificial intelligence. That's when we first aired this conversation, in which he talks about trading a traditional job for writing full time, what's unique about Chinese science fiction, and why he's excited for the possibilities of artificial intelligence.

About the author I’ve been writing for years, but only started publishing about 3 1/2 years ago. I pride myself on adult oriented entertainment. The relationships, the language, the complicated plot threads, and a lot of the situations are geared toward an older audience. Honestly, I think anyone would get enjoyment from the reading, but the more life experience you have, the more you will be able to relate to what is happening. Regarding relationships, for example, my characters tend to be married or have a family. This isn’t the kind of romance that younger audience members can relate to. I also pride myself on brutal realistic detail. The characters talk like real people, act like real people, think like real people, and make the decisions real people would make. No one goes “suddenly stupid” so that the plot can happen. No, my characters are the one driving the plot. That is how it should, but that’s been forgotten by creators over the last decade or so, which is why so much of everything fails now. There are old editions on Amazon, because Amazon refuses to take listings down. I hate that because it can be confusing, but at least the old editions are marked as unavailable, or are otherwise obvious. The new stuff tends to be at the top. My 5th book should be out within a couple weeks of this posting, and number 6 is scheduled for Spring 2026. Beyond that, it’ll be my publisher’s decision as to how fast the books go live.

David Griffin returns for a follow up episode to the first Paranormal Peep Show episode where he explained how Marconi may have received recovered alien technology from the Falklands War of 1982. This was allegedly a sentient Black liquid commonly referred to as the Black Goo. This goo was left by bad aliens as a 'Dead Man's trigger', and was partially removed by Blue Aliens back in 1917 according to abductee Alec Newald.
