A Sydney Kings fan suffered a cardiac arrest during the NBL Grand Final and was saved by St John's Ambulance volunteers, including 14-year-old Charlie Morrison who arrived on scene, started CPR and got a defibrillator on the patient within seconds. Charlie sounds more calm and composed describing the incident than most adults do ordering a coffee. It is his fourth year with St John's and his second cardiac arrest save. Listeners call in with their own hero moments: a woman checked on her elderly neighbour after not hearing from him for two days and found him unconscious on the floor with broken hips, a student choked on chips watching reality TV alone in her dorm, and a man and his now wife jumped into the Figure Eight Pools to save four or five tourists who got washed in. Cam Oliver joins the podcast to discuss his time playing for the Cairns Taipans, how it shaped him as a player and a person, and how it helped him reach the NBA. Since leaving Australia, Cam has played in Spain, Puerto Rico, the Philippines, France and China, and he shares some of the highs and lows from each of these stops. Currently looking for a team to play with in 2024/25, he confirms that he'd love to return to the NBL. During his first NBL season, Oliver averaged 17.0 points, 9.1 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game while shooting 54 percent from the field. This earned him a spot on the All-NBL Second Team. Whyalla born and bred Chris Blakemore began training with the Adelaide 36ers in 1990 before spending two seasons at the Australian Institute of Sport and signing a rookie contract with the team in 1993. He played three seasons with the 36ers (1993-1995), a period where the team saw a young core of Blakemore, Brett Maher, Scott Ninnis and Brett Wheeler develop into a playing group that ushered in a new era of success in Adelaide. Blakemore would win Rookie of the Year in his first season and the league's Most Improved Player in his second season. This early 1990s also saw highly regarded college coach Mike Dunlap hire to coach the team, an era renown for a lot of wins on the court and issues off the court. Topics include...
