Uh oh! We have a new BFF in Nashville and it's singer/songwriter GODDESS, Nicole Serrano! Nicole (she/they) identifies as non-binary ("I feel like 'female-plus'"), and remembers having crushes on girls as early as preschool. Growing up in the Pentecostal Church, however, meant constant messaging that "gay people were going to Hell," so when it came to her burgeoning sexuality, Nicole says, "I knew what I knew, but it was never an option." Meanwhile, she was singing regularly in church and began writing her own music at fourteen, which led to her gaining a sizeable following in the Christian music scene. Nicole shares how the intense stress of repressing her true identity eventually landed her in the hospital, and walks us through the moment she came out as gay on Good Morning America (talk about a baptism by fire! (no pun intended!)). She also discusses finally writing the music she really wants to write, and we get the scoop on her upcoming album all about coming out!Follow Nicole on Instagram at @nicoleserrano, and listen to her music on all of the usual music-listening platforms! This episode is sponsored by Hinge's Not-so Frequently Asked Questions. Responsibility, exhaustion, and distraction often overshadow the joys of motherhood. Quiet and solitude remain as elusive as the Loch Ness monster. As we pour ourselves out for our children, we struggle to find more to offer our spouses, friends, and God. Wouldn't it be lovely if the solution consisted of doing less rather than more? What if being mindful of each moment enabled us to refresh our souls and glorify God? __________ Please read the Biblical truths behind this message and declare the awesomeness of our God: As he was now getting near, at the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works which they had seen, saying, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven, and glory in the highest!” Some of the Pharisees from the multitude said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!” He answered them, “I tell you that if these were silent, the stones would cry out.” – Luke 19:37-40 WEB ______________ Momma Theologians Prayerful Takeaways: 1) Start your morning by reading Psalm 148 and 150 and carry that spirit into your day. Actively look for moments of beauty, write them on your heart, and give praise to the Lord. 2) Read and meditate on Psalm 103 and/or 136. 3) Find a few moments to marvel at God's creation around you. Consider these songs to accompany your solitary worship: Chris Tomlin's “I Stand In Awe” featuring Nicole Serrano or “Beautiful Beyond Description” performed by Soul Survivor and Momentum. 4) Challenge yourself to spend time outside each day this week. Try to experience God with all five senses and turn the time into a prayer of praise. If you can't go outside, marvel over prerecorded sights and sounds from nature. _______________ Momma Theologians Contributor Leslie Klosterman Leslie Klosterman has savored more than a decade as a stay-at-home mother and volunteer. However, she recently took a leap of faith and completed her master's degree in Christian Spirituality and Formation at Regent University. God has blessed Leslie with three lively sons (a teenager and twins who are eight). Leslie loves God, reading, writing, K-Dramas, dessert, and taking pictures. She also has a passion for ministering to women and children. You can find more of her writing at her personal blog.

Today I'm chatting with New York native, Nashville-based singer/songwriter & multi instrumentalist Nicole Serrano - whose rich, soulful voice captures you immediately, carving her own path between soul & alternative pop. You have probably already heard her music on major networks including ABC, CBS, VH1, MTV, ESPN, & Netflix on shows like Grey's Anatomy, The Good Doctor, Station 19, Younger, Selling Sunset, and more. Steeped in a deep history of worship music - she grew up in a conservative household where her dad owned a Christian book store - she was raised Christian and has performed & written for major Christian acts. She's now showing off a new side; evolving her sound & creative passion into a fuller frame of what's always been there. Today, she is debuting a new song called "Nice To Meet You." And earlier today she came out as queer on Good Morning America in an interview with Robin Roberts. In my interview with Nicole, she told me: “'Nice To Meet You' is my story of the past 3 years - and it's the most vulnerable i've ever been in my writing. But I am beyond ready. This peeks into my recent journey, revealing parts of me I've newly embraced & the parts I've thought best to leave behind, ultimately realizing that it ALL has always belonged. It's been me all along. I just can't wait to share it with you. It's so real and honest and tasty and FUN." In preparing for this interview, I've explored her music and talent and found her to be incredibly gifted - not only with a gorgeous, distinctive musical perspective, but an independent spirit to just get out and be who she is. Take a listen to “Nice To Meet You” from out recording artist Nicole Serrano, followed by my chat with the very talented singer/songwriter. You can find more info about Nicole at her official website: https://www.nicoleserranomusic.com/

Billy & Cindy Foote have written worship songs that have been played around the world. You may be familiar with their songs, "Sing to the King", "You Are God Alone (Not a God)", "You Are My King (Amazing Love)", and "Rescue the Perishing".I was joined by Billy for this episode as we discussed his new album "World Burning Down". This album is stylistically different than the previous worship albums. This singer/songwriter project is worshipful in the sense that it comes from a man after God’s own heart holding in high esteem God’s Word and unchanging character.Billy stopped leading many years ago due to a neurological disorder called hyper dysphonia - a progressive condition that causes his vocal cords to spasm. But Billy knew the message of these songs needed to be offered in his own voice. He wrote the songs with his limited vocal range in mind and came to see the rawness and warbles of his voice as a perfect fit for the work God was doing through him in this endeavor. If you belong to a church, I urge you to download "World Burning Down" and hear from Billy's heart as you listen.World Burning DownAll the WolvesThe ChurchThe Things He Could Have DoneSunday Morning ShowWorld Burning DownDear Ordinary PastorBilly co-wrote "God of Grace" with Nicole Serrano. As we continue our week on seeking God, today we're exploring what it means to seek God through fasting. This may be a new or even unpleasant topic for some, but my hope is that you would be energized and encouraged toward the act of fasting today. There is power in surrender and self-sacrifice for the sake of more of God, and I pray you experience that power as you learn more about this important tool God's given us to seek him. I'd encourage you to open your heart today in full surrender to anything the Spirit might speak. Our Scripture for today comes from Ezra 8:23, and today's worship is More by Red Rocks Worship featuring Nicole Serrano. First15 is a daily devotional written and recorded by Craig Denison.
