Do you have a phobia or a fear of anything?  Mine is clowns.  It is probably because I coursed my mom into letting me stay up later and watch IT when I was in elementary school.  Not a great choice on my part.  Today you are going to meet my former intern when I worked in radio, Junior Ziegler who is now the Lead Teaching Pastor of The Bridge Community Church.   "Thinking, God created that person in His image. And praying for them that they meet Jesus... Just having that on your radar, people need Jesus." - Junior ZieglerJunior is an excellent teacher that challenges his listeners in a way that encourages them to see Jesus. After being a pastor for a little over a decade he shares with us how easy it is to run from the problems we face.  How even in the pain we continue to numb it and push it to the side.  But the reality is someday we are going to have to face it and Junior's parable gives us a practical parable that applies to each one of us. I hope you enjoy this conversation with Junior Ziegler. Our Conversation Points:Growing up as a Pastor's Kid and finding his own way.One of his biggest lessons in preaching and in marriage.God built us for community through vulnerability.Practical ways community has benefited him and for us as well. The Spiritual practice of silence. How to humbly deal with the "tooth pain" in our life.Reflection Questions:What is the tooth you don't want to address in your life?Think about some of the practices you use often during your time with God and how you can incorporate something new to build on.Connect with Junior ZieglerWebsite | Instagram The Vitals: The Critical Organs of Christianity by Junior How to support The Parable Podcast: #1 Subscribe or Follow the show so you don't miss the next episode of The Parable Podcast through your favorite podcast app (i.e. iTunes, Spotify, Stitcher). #2 Share this show with a friend, this is a perfect opportunity to start your own Parable Conversation together. #3 Are you in need of a speaker for your Church, Women's Group, or event? This week I am spoke with Sharon Engram and Lori Rohlinger. Both women are widows who lost their husbands in very different seasons of life, and yet shared similar things. Sharon and Lori wanted to create a resource for widows by widows to help disciple women towards hope in a dark situation. On todays episode we discuss their book Surviving Widowhood, they describe their experience in the months and years following their husbands' deaths, share encouragement and hope for those experiencing widowhood, and offer some wisdom for those of us that may be walking alongside a widow, how we can serve and encourage her. I know that everything you will hear from Sharon and Lori is true, not only because of their heart to help women which I believe you will come to see, but also because as their shared their stories and things they experienced, they paralleled our families experience as we have walked alongside my Dad and the experiences of friends who are walking with their parents or friends who have lost a spouse. It might seem like its going to be a sad conversation, but you might be surprised how much HOPE these women have to share with us!To watch the video head over to the Youtube VideoDaily Kairos Bible Journal Link: https://dailykairos.com/courtney-lowmanShow Notes for all the links!Sign up for our JOR Inside Look EmailsConnect with Courtney!Facebook | Instagram Support the show

Nicole (she/they) identifies as non-binary ("I feel like 'female-plus'"), and remembers having crushes on girls as early as preschool. Growing up in the Pentecostal Church, however, meant constant messaging that "gay people were going to Hell," so when it came to her burgeoning sexuality, Nicole says, "I knew what I knew, but it was never an option." Meanwhile, she was singing regularly in church and began writing her own music at fourteen, which led to her gaining a sizeable following in the Christian music scene. Nicole shares how the intense stress of repressing her true identity eventually landed her in the hospital, and walks us through the moment she came out as gay on Good Morning America (talk about a baptism by fire! Her parents immigrated to United States from Trinidad and Tobago. Here, they would start their second church. As a pastor's kid, Crystal was able to learn how to serve in the church, from a very young age. During this time, she discovered her ability to sing and act, and the Lord has used her ever since. Despite constantly moving to different states, due to her parent's commitment to full-time ministry, God and music have remained a constant in her life. Throughout her life, Crystal has performed in various choirs and musical productions. She has directed several shows, including Mystery Dinner Theatre, church skits, and musicals. Her love for music and children has inspired her to continue her education. She currently studies Music Education - Choral Conducting, at Pensacola Christian College. She hopes to one day inspire young people to use their gifts to bring glory and honor to God.

In this episode, I am interviewing my friend Austin who shares his story about growing up gay while living in a conservative Christian home and community. His story is one of courage and authenticity. It takes immense strength to step out as your authentic self, especially when you know you will be rejected by family and your community. I did not experience coming out as gay, but I did experience similar rejection and scrutiny from the same community as well as my family and friends. I am so honored to be sharing Austin's story with you all. I'm hoping this hits home for 2 groups of people: 1. The person who might be battling with their own sexuality, authenticity, and feeling terribly afraid of the repercussions of "coming out". 2. The person who believes homosexuality is wrong (like I did) and who judges others for what they view as "sin". This message is meant to open the eyes of those who lack empathy and understanding, as well as to honor and lift up those who have done courageous things like Austin. Here’s a brief bio for James: * I was born in east Los Angeles June 12 1984.I grew up in the san Fernando valley I grew up as a PK a pastors kid. Growing up in ministry had it’s up’s and downs. Somewhat neglected in a way my pops was really busy with his ministry. I seen many things at a young age, even though I wasn’t in a street gang the life was around in our neighborhood. You would think id live up to my dads life. * As I was growing up I faced many situations that I put myself into our just happened to be at the wrong place wrong time type scenario. Introduced to weed at a young age. I found myself trying to make a name for myself in the graffiti world. Didn’t know how crazy that could get. * Then I experienced my first arrest GTA a friend stole a car and we went out for a joy ride. A few miles later and a whole squad of cop cars a helicopter and a k9 were looking for me. We where caught and went to the station where they grilled us but let us go after our parents came to pick us up. * Later one of the most tragic thing happened I lost a good friend and that opened my eyes to see that real life hit home. That’s when me and a really good friend/brother wrote and produced a drama depicting real life stories of addiction a street life a drama about young youth trying to find a purpose in the very streets I grew up in. * I later became a at risk youth intervention specialist. Where I mentored and worked with young teens headed towards a life of possible jail and or prison that was on the verge of being in gangs. * Even though I was doing this at a time I was being harassed my cops detectives. They where trying to get information on a shooting that happened just steps from my front door. With nothing to give them they threatened me with charges of firing a weapon. They claimed the victim a person I knew and had no problems with just a homie from the city. Well they said he was hit with two different calibers, but they found three different casings at the scene. They claim I fired the third in order to save my friend, which was not true. * Later I would get married have kids, years later with a divorce and past drug use and depression I thought about ending my life for a split second. Subscribe: https://anchor.fm/soundwords Aaron: http://musicgoon.com Barnabas: https://www.instagram.com/barnabaswpiper Barnabas grew up as a pastor's kid in Minneapolis, MN and professed faith in Jesus as a young child. He grew up having a love/hate relationship with the church and struggling to find his own identity in Christ. After high school he moved to Illinois to attend Wheaton College. In his mid-20s God did a significant work in Barnabas's life to humble him, show him what repentance and grace truly look like, and teach him what it means to genuinely know and serve Jesus. Barnabas worked in Christian publishing for nearly fifteen years before joining staff at Immanuel in 2019. He is a writer, the author of multiple books, and has co-hosted several podcasts. He has two amazing daughters, one dog, and zero cats. Really the only major crisis in Barnabas's life is a life-long loyalty to Minnesota sports teams. Barnabas answered these questions about his new book, Hoping for Happiness: 1. What does it mean that you are a "recovering cynic?" 2. "Whatever we find happiness in, we are united by our desire for work that matters and relationships that fulfill." -- How did you discern this in your own life? 3. Hanging our happiness on hooks - can you explain this? How did you come up with this illustration? 4. Submitted question: What are some habits or disciplines you do when you find yourself hanging your happiness on the wrong hooks? 5. Evangeliguilt -- what does this mean and what can we do about it? 6. You speak from your own experience, speaking frankly about your own losses and disappointments. Was this difficult to write? How did you find the courage to share? 7. When did you start writing the book? Did you have the events of 2020 (coronavirus, political, race relations) in your mind? 8. Your other books include Help My Unbelief and The Pastors Kid. This makes for a really great trilogy of books. Do you sense a common theme or way they relate to each other in your thinking? 9. What was it like to work with The Good Book Company? 10. Any words of advice or encouragement for writers and readers? When real adult life kicked off, the know it all kid was unable to deal with the basic realities of life.  On the journey of life, there are several choices to make; different paths and pivots we can take; relationships to maintain; relationships which break and with a plethora of opinions and an overload of facts; only the truth will expose us to true freedom. The truth is discovered and unleashed in the process when you place yourself in the position of learner, I'm currently learning to trust God as I trust the process- Selah.

She is passionateabout helping others not make the same mistakes she has along thebusiness path, and in her free time, she volunteers at her church.Rachel and I discuss her two main focuses when it comes to businessand life, and the church.1. Failure as an imperative growth tool2. The Power of Obligation and how you can live your life free of other people's opinions. We discuss Rachel's childhood growing up as a preacher's kid and the pressure to lookright and act right that came along with that while she also shares with us herexperience in bible college, leaving a church, and going through a church split. Shetook it to church in this episode sharing how people in the church tend to feel like theyhave to have it all together and are never really allowed to just be themselves but that'snot really who Jesus was. He was the leader that stooped down and stopped menfrom stoning adulterous women. She talked about how she feels as if God is sparkinga revival and is not on the mission of a cruise ship but rather a rescue boat.Rachel went on to discuss her failures in business and what she learned from them. She gave us her Three Steps to Moving on in Business after failure:3 Steps for Overcoming Failure in Business:1. OWN IT: You have to own that you failed and pull yourself up from the boot straps. Then you have to realize that failure is truly your most important growth tool.• Meditate/Pray/Take a walk: think about why you failed2. DECIDE WHAT THE NEXT STEP IS:• Relaunch• Different Industry1• Research Customers: Who are they, what do they want?3. Launch your Product/Service in spite of previous failure• Do it scared. “Listen through the fear”. You will never know what all the stepsare but you to take the first one.You can follow Rachel on Instagram:https://instagram.com/_lastminutemom_?igshid=1sihk6d0wi6x2 Have you written a review?
