One September afternoon in 2003, a woman in Tucson, Arizona, heard a knock on her front door and answered it. She was surprised to see a Tucson police detective standing on her front steps, and even more surprised when the detective started asking a bunch of questions about her next door neighbor. The woman was a law-abiding citizen, and she didn't know anything. The detective gave her his business card and asked her to call him if that changed, but as she closed the door, she was pretty sure she would never have any reason to talk to him again. That was until a few days later, when she looked out her front window and saw two sweaty men jump out of a van and walk up the steps into her neighbor's house. She watched for a few minutes, with her heart racing, realizing that what she was watching might very well be the coverup of a murder. She let the curtain fall and ran to her purse, to dig out the detective's business card. We'll learn about a few minor prophets in the next three weeks of this brand-new series. This first week we learned more about Amos. This part of the Bible holds meaningful everyday value for us especially when we look at it in context. After this series concludes, we hope that the minor prophets will come alive for us in a new way with life application and worthwhile takeaways to use wherever you are spiritually.
Every September, here on the podcast we feature a guest who has a personal experience with 9/11. Most people remember exactly where they were on the morning of September 11, 2001, when terrorists struck the US using hijacked airplanes. It was a dark day for this country. This month, What Was That Like is publishing a 3-part series titled one September morning. In each episode, you'll hear someone telling their personal story about what they experienced on that day. If you haven't done so already, be sure to subscribe and follow the show so you don't miss an episode. Today is the third and final episode in this series, and we hear from Guy. Guy was an EMS Supervisor for a private ambulance company. He talks of co-workers that were literally pulled from the rubble, those who are still missing, and those who left spouses and children behind. We'll have pictures of some of his co-workers in the episode notes. Guy also has ongoing health issues as a result of his time spent at Ground Zero. But he doesn't regret rushing toward danger, and he would do it again if needed. Tim was a New York City firefighter for 18 years, and when 9/11 happened, he was working for Mayor Giuliani, handling major emergencies. So when those planes hit the towers, Tim wasn't just someone who happened to be on the scene. He was one of those actually in charge. The things he saw that day make his story one of the most compelling ones I've had on this podcast. He originally told this story here a few years ago, and it's one of the most popular episodes on the show. And after you listen, I'd love to hear what YOU think of it. 9/11 video – escaping debris: https://youtu.be/TlBTyI71FMw Full show notes and pictures for this episode are here: https://WhatWasThatLike.com/189 Graphics for this episode by Bob Bretz. Pastor Al Nucciarone of Jerusalem Baptist Church in Jerusalem, Israel discusses what it's like to pastor a church in a city where Jesus Christ did much of His earthly ministry, including His sacrificial death and resurrection for the sins of the world, ministering to prostitutes in Telavi, his latest book, “Holy Land Encounter”, opposition to believing Jesus is the Jewish Messiah, and running Polish/Ukrainian youth sports camps. This is part one of a two-part interview.
We delve into the values that moved Jesus to change lives, focusing on "FOR THE ONE" from Luke 15. Reflecting on Matthew 9:35-38, we learn about authentic Christian compassion, involving seeing, feeling, and doing. Our mission is to "Know Jesus and Love Like Him," stepping into the chaos to extend love and grace. Reflect on who God is calling you to see and the actions He's urging you to take. Experience the transformative power of compassion through our featured video showcasing the work of Mission of Hope International (MOHI). Stay tuned for more discussions and actions aligned with Jesus' teachings, urging us to be compassionate and embrace everyone in God's love.
Our job as followers of Christ is to help people resolve what is causing them to feel distant from God, support them through their struggles, and remind them of what God really thinks of them. The truth is God is at work in situations even before we realize it and He never gives up on them. As part of the “royal priesthood” mentioned in 1 Peter 2:9, our role is to help people, lift them back up to Jesus, and remind them of His love for them.
This story is a fan favorite that was previously published as Episode 32.One September night in 2006, a man left his office in upstate New York and walked across the nearly vacant parking lot to his truck. When he climbed inside the driver's seat, he instantly noticed that the back left of his vehicle seemed to be sagging slightly. But before he could figure out why that was, he thought he saw something moving in his peripheral vision off to his left. Reflexively, he turned and looked out his window into the dark night, and there, only a few feet away from him was a shadowy figure looking right at him. Then, whoever it was began to raise their hands...For 100s more stories like this one, check out my YouTube channel just called "MrBallen" -- https://www.youtube.com/c/MrBallenIf you want to reach out to me, contact me on Instagram, Twitter or any other major social media platform, my username on all of them is @MrBallenSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
