Finding the Floor - A thoughtful approach to midlife motherhood and what comes next.

Send us a text “... Be not afraid. Only Believe.”  In this episode I am talking about fear and the counsel we get from Jesus Christ to not be afraid.  I share a story of when I learned a new dive and how that experience is related to fear.  I share lots of scriptures from the old and new testament of times when we are asked to not be afraid.  I also explain how time is the fuel of fear and how through ordinances we can reorder our experience of time, as we focus on Jesus Christ. I also mention some ways to help us overcome fear from Elder Ronald A Rasband.  I then tell a story shared by Sister Jean Stevens of her helping a boy walking home late at night.  Fear is very real and as we learn to rely more on Christ we can not be troubled by it.   For show notes and info www.findingthefloor.com/ep216I would love to hear from you! You can reach me at camille@findingthefloor.com or dm @findingthefloor on instagram. Thanks for listening!!Thanks to Seth Johnson for my intro and outro original music. I love it so much!

Jairus, a synagogue manager, went desperately to Jesus to seek healing for his dying child. Jesus agreed to go with him to his home to heal her. On the way, they learned that Jairus's daughter was dead. At that point, Jesus said to him, “fear not, only believe.” Why did he tell Jairus to believe instead of having faith? Learn the answer in Only Believe.

I can imagine that Jairus was getting pretty anxious as Jesus has stopped on their way to his house to heal this woman of her “flow of blood” issue, and to take the time to talk with her and then send her on her way with these beautiful words of encouragement, “Daughter, be of good cheer; your faith has made you well. Go in peace.” His daughter is dying, and the sooner Jesus gets to his house the better. Do you ever feel like Jesus is taking too much time to help you or to answer your prayer?   Then, sure enough, someone comes from Jairus' house and gives him the message: “Your daughter is dead. Do not trouble the Teacher.” You can only wonder what Jairus must have thought and felt at that moment! “Jesus, my daughter was dying, and you could have healed her. Instead, You stop and help this woman who has had this problem for 12 years. You could have come back tomorrow and taken care of her problem. Now my daughter is dead!”   But Jesus responds to assure and comfort him by saying, “Do not be afraid; only believe, and your daughter will be made well.” Now remember in this chapter it was right after Jesus says, “Don't hide the light of your candle under a basket or bed, but put it where it can help everyone”, that He reveals His authority over the wind and waves of the storm on the sea by simply saying, “Peace be still” (Mark 4:39). Jesus has power over the elements of nature!   At Gadara on the other side of the sea, Jesus cast out a legion of demons from the maniac and reveals His power and authority over the demonic forces of hell. And He still has power over them today! Then Jesus also reveals His power over sickness and disease when He heals this woman of her flow of blood. And now, as we come to the end of the chapter, Jesus reveals that He has power and authority over death itself. Is it no wonder that Jesus said to Jairus, “Do not be afraid; only believe!”   About a year and half later, we find a similar situation in John 11. Martha and Mary's brother, Lazarus was deathly sick, and they sent word to Jesus to come and heal him. But Jesus lingered where He was so long down by the Jordan River that when He finally arrived Lazareth had died. When Jesus finally shows up, Martha confronts Him by saying, “If you had been here my brother would not have died.” Jesus responds to her with these famous words in John 11:25-26, “Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?" And a few minutes later, Jesus would call Lazarus out of grave and present him alive to his sisters and their friends!   My friend, Jesus still has power over sinners who are dead in their trespasses and sins! (Ephesians 2:1). Paul goes on to assure us of His resurrection power in Ephesians 2:4-9: “But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus..."   It doesn't matter whether you are a dead religious sinner like Paul, or a wicked evil bad sinner, Jesus has the power to save you because of His love, mercy and grace and the power of His resurrection! When Jesus and Jairus arrived at the house the people were weeping and in deep sorrow over the dead girl. Jesus separated the unbelieving crowd from the believing crowd and went in and raised the girl from the dead!   The question Jesus asked Martha is still the same today, “Do this believe this?” To Jairus Jesus said, “Do not be afraid, only believe!”   Today you can believe that Jesus can save you or your lost family members and friends! Only believe!!!! And you don't need to be afraid of death for yourself or your loved ones! Only Believe!   God bless!

This sermon, based on Mark 5:21-43 (KJV) and titled "Be Not Afraid, Only Believe," delves into the moving story of a father who desperately pleads with Jesus to heal his gravely ill 12-year-old daughter. It also examines the crowd's reaction to Jesus' assertion that the girl was not dead, drawing a parallel to how unbelievers today respond when they hear about spiritual events.

For over 50 years, For the Strength of Youth has been a guide for generations of Latter-day Saint youth. I always keep a copy in my pocket, and I share it with people who are curious about our standards. It has been updated and refreshed to better cope with the challenges and temptations of our day. The new version of For the Strength of Youth is available online in 50 different languages and will also be available in print. It will be a significant help for making choices in your life. Please embrace it as your own and share it with your friends. This new version of For the Strength of Youth is subtitled A Guide for Making Choices. To be very clear, the best guide you can possibly have for making choices is Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the strength of youth. So the purpose of For the Strength of Youth is to point you to Him. It teaches you eternal truths of His restored gospel—truths about who you are, who He is, and what you can accomplish with His strength. It teaches you how to make righteous choices based on those eternal truths.13 It's also important to know what For the Strength of Youth does not do. It doesn't make decisions for you. It doesn't give you a “yes” or “no” about every choice you might ever face. For the Strength of Youth focuses on the foundation for your choices. It focuses on values, principles, and doctrine instead of every specific behavior. The Lord, through His prophets, has always been guiding us in that direction. He is pleading with us to “increase [our] spiritual capacity to receive revelation.”14 He is inviting us to “hear Him.”15 He is calling us to follow Him in higher and holier ways.16 And we are learning in a similar way every week in Come, Follow Me.   For a list of 100+ episodes of ACU Sunday Series visit- https://www.podbean.com/site/search/index?kdsowie31j4k1jlf913=85cb8104bdb182c048b714ad4385f9e82a3aeb49&v=ACU+Sunday+Series+ Note- Click on “100 Episodes Found” in upper right corner.

Message: Jesus travels with Jairus, the ruler of the synagogue, with the intent to heal his dying daughter. The key point "Fear Not, Only Believe" is intended to give you a place of rest, a sense of calmness, and be an anchor for your soul. This main point breaks down into three subsections; 1. Trouble Not; defining the circumstantial remark made by a member of Jairus' household in response to the tragic passing of his daughter. The real truth is death is not the end for the believer and our troubles also trouble the Lord. 2. Fear Not - This explains the heart and soul of Jesus' intention. An earthly fear is one that instills dread and is constantly a snare. Perfect love casts out this type of infectious fear. 3. Only Believe - The members of Jairus' home laughed at Jesus, but his response showed a singleness of mind that he desired for the rest of them to have. He removed them from the room, quieting the noise and focusing instead on the sleeping child. The greatest tragedy would be turning away, running to isolation when there's a trial in our lives. We need to silence the lies. So he says; "Believe." Scripture: Luke 8:50 "But when Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole." - KJV

Sermon Series: Romans | Week 8: Faith and God's TransferSunday, April 7, 2019 | Kevin BerryEverything we have read in Romans so far has all been leading up to where we are today. Nobody is righteous, no, not one (Rom. 3:10) and then... we are all in the same boat... all have sinned (Rom. 3:23)!Romans 3:24, 26b TPTYet, through his powerful declaration of acquittal, God freely gives away his righteousness. His gift of love and favor now cascades over us, all because Jesus, the Anointed One, has liberated us from the guilt, punishment, and power of sin! So now, because we stand on the faithfulness of Jesus, God declares us righteous in his eyes. What? He freely gives away his righteousness? How can this be?Have you noticed something about little kids? They really want you to watch them! They say nonstop, “Look! Look what I can do! Watch me!” as they jump up and down on a trampoline, ride a bike, or do something new. The truth is even though adults don't say it anymore, inside we are often still looking for the same things we looked for when we were children – acceptance, validation, and worth in what we do.This was the condition of the Jewish people in the Roman church. They were saying, “God, look at me. Other people, look at me. Have you noticed how holy I seem?” Paul came along and told them that in the kingdom, you don't get acceptance based on what you do, but what He did! Paul developed his point by looking at two of the most famous people in Israel—Abraham and David—and used them as examples.Rom. 4:1-8 ESVWhat then shall we say was gained by Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh?2 For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. 3 For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness.” 4 Now to the one who works, his wages are not counted as a gift but as his due. 5 And to the one who does not workbut believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness, 6 just as David also speaks of the blessing of the one to whom God counts righteousness apart from works: 7 “Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered; 8 blessed is the man against whom the Lord will not count his sin.”The heart of Paul's message – Rom. 4:3 NLTFor the Scriptures tell us, “Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith.”Rom. 4:3 TPTListen to what the Scriptures say: Because Abraham believed God's words, his faith transferred God's righteousness into his account. If, as followers of Jesus we don't understand this, we spend the rest of our lives trying to earn what we cannot earn, and we will miss the joy we could be walking in. We would forever wonder, “Am I in or out with God?”Travel the world and you'll find one thing in common among people – most are trying to figure out how to be right with God. One of the biggest turning points in your life is when you discover that in Christ, you are accepted, and that has nothing to do with what you do, but what you believe!HOW CAN WE BECOME RIGHT WITH GOD? It may be a lot simpler than you think. Believe God. | 4:1-3If Abraham was justified by good works, by “his good deeds,” we could make a list of his good deeds...but none of these things are mentioned. No, the Scriptures tell us, “He believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness” (Gen. 15:6).We tend to complicate things – relationships with others and our relationship with God. We complicate hearing Him; we even complicate salvation – being right with God.The more we try and do what we cannot, the more of a mess we make of things. Stop trying and start believing today! ONLY BELIEVE. Grab onto that! There is one thing needed... ONLY BELIEVE! It's only by believing that you can be saved. In Mark 5:36, Jesus said, “Do not fear, only believe.”Paul introduces a very important word in this chapter and uses it 11 times: “COUNT.”In Greek, it's an accounting term.COUNT: To credit something, to confer a status that was not there before. The Apostle Paul doesn't say that Abraham was made righteous, but rather that God counted Abraham as righteous! Our justification is not God making us perfectly righteous, but counting us as perfectly righteous. After we are counted righteous, then God begins to make us truly righteous, culminating at our resurrection. YES!!! It means that God treated Abraham as though he was living a righteous life. Abraham was not in himself righteous or blameless, but God treated him as though he was. When you believe in the message of the cross, you are not made righteous, you are declared righteous!
