KIRK'S UNPLANNED VACATION. An alien obelisk gives Captain Kirk amnesia and strands him among indigenous people transported from Earth to an alien planet in the direct path of a world-ending asteroid. Our Inner Light Month concludes with this look at Kirk basically getting a chance at a normal life but still becoming the captain of a tribe. Is it a TREK, MARRY, or KILL?The grades begin at (15:49).
The Boyz watch Star Trek TOS Season 3 Episode 3: "The Paradise Syndrome" in which a mysterious alien device on a planet with a predominantly American Indian culture erases Captain Kirk's memory, and he begins a life with them as a member of their tribe.
Captain's Log, Stardate 4842.46 After a long and sexy summer of covering nothing but dance films, the crew is excited to get back to the world of Star Trek with season three's, The Paradise Syndrome. I have instructed Lt. Mike and First Officer Jackie to watch their step while reviewing this episode, lest they find themselves waking up in a dark room with odd looking machinery, asking themselves, “This is not my beautiful starship…this is not my Native American wife…HOW…did I get here?? I'm your host and captain, Dave, and joining me again as we travel through the final frontier of the Original Series of Trek are fellow Trekkies Lt. Mike and First Officer Jackie. Topics of discussion in this episode include Captain Kirk's flagrant disregard of the Prime Directive; a leaf blower signals the beginning of the end for the inhabitants of a doomed planet; and finally, James T. Kirk has his sixth best relationship of the series as he gets friendly with a young native american woman on Planet California. Be sure to rate, review and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. Aspen is sick! And suffering from The Paradise Syndrome! Star Trek fails to show up this week as we act out of character and nitpick the flaws in Paradise Syndrome. Kenny talks about the Malevolence as an analog to the German Battleship Bismarck. And we dunk on Rise of Skywalker some more (sorry TROS lovers). Also, both franchises deal with commanding stuff._________________Get early, extended episodes on our Patreon at https://www.patreon.com/trekwarspodTheme by Tosin AwofesoSocial Media:https://www.instagram.com/trekwarspodhttps://bsky.app/profile/trekwarspod.bsky.socialWant to ask us questions? Captain's Log, Stardate 3372.7. The Trek Cast remains trapped in the TOS era of Star Trek, and our next assignment is Season 2's “Amok Time”. An episode filled with horny rage and awesome fight music. I have instructed my crew to behave themselves during the screening, and not to emulate the insubordinate behavior of Mr. Spock, lest they find themselves in the brig for illogical conduct. I'm your host and captain, Dave, and joining me again as we travel through the final frontier of the Original Series of Trek are fellow Trekkies Lt. Mike and First Officer Jackie. Topics of discussion in this episode include a breakdown of Pon Farr, aka: the Vulcan version of the Birds and the Bees; we get a peek into the bizarre and macabre world of the “Omegaverse”; and finally, we wonder if this whole episode was just an excuse for Gene Roddenberry to live out his sci-fi cuck fantasies. This week Dana and Dan discuss "The Paradise Syndrom." The guys talk about a giant obelisk, an asteroid, Kirk with amnesia, and Spock getting very annoyed with McCoy. Dan and Dana also go into detail about what the chances are of finding an identical planet to Earth millions of miles across the galaxy and whether or not keeping an asteroid from hitting a planet constitutes violating the Prime Directive. When Kirk suffers from amnesia, will the big Manhattan musical go on? How many awful "native American" tropes can one 1960's TV series cram into one episode? Is the transporter a killing machine? "The Paradise Syndrome" é o mais recente episódio a receber a trilha de comentários em áudio do podcast. O post Cérebro de Spock #58 – “The Paradise Syndrome” apareceu primeiro em Trek Brasilis - A fonte definitiva de Star Trek (Jornada nas Estrelas) em português.
On this super-sized episode of "Enterprise Incidents," we're joined for our deep dive of "The Lorelei Signal" by three of the Syfy Sistas (Subrina Wood, Yvette Blackman Tom and Tamia Harper), followed by an amazing interview with actress Michelle Hurd about the impact of this landmark episode, the legacy of Nichelle Nichols and working with the reunited cast of "The Next Generation" for the third and final season of "Star Trek: Picard." While investigating a sector of space where starships have been disappearing every 27 years, the Enterprise is lured to the second planet in the Taurean system by an irresistible siren call that has a hypnotic effect on the male members of the crew. After beaming down to investigate, Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock and Dr. McCoy become the unwitting prisoners of a powerful race of women who gain their strength by feeding off the energy of men. With the men of the crew completely incapacitated, Lt. Uhura takes command of the Enterprise and leads an all-female contingent to overpower their oppressors, break the energy-draining spell and save the lives of Kirk, Spock and McCoy. Written by Margaret Armen -- who wrote "The Original Series" episodes "The Gamesters of Triskelion," "The Paradise Syndrome" and "The Cloud Minders" -- "The Lorelei Signal" is an entertaining episode that's made essential by the truly empowering moment when Uhura takes command of the Enterprise. And you can hear the excitement in Nichelle Nichols' voice, which alone makes "The Lorelei Signal" one of the all-time "Star Trek" greats. In the much anticipated (and originally planned) OFFICIAL SEASON 3 OPENER we cover episodes 56-58 from Star Trek TOS. Starting in production order with Specter of the Gun, followed by Elaan of Troyius and our very favorite -- heavy sarcasm -- The Paradise Syndrome. We're sprinting out the gate with lots of opinions, lots of season 3 background courtesy of Marc Cushman's "These Are The Voyages: Volume 3", many laughs, and a lot of SURPRISE singing?! In this episode of Trekking Through Compliance, we consider the episode The Paradise Syndrome, which aired on October 4, 1968, Star Date 4842.6. In this episode, Kirk suffers from amnesia while living among natives on an idyllic planet. They treat him as a god until they don't and try to kill him. Unfortunately, they only succeed in killing his native wife and their unborn child. Meanwhile, the Enterprise has to stop an asteroid from hitting the planet and destroying it. The end of this episode has one of the most humane explorations of what it means to be the Captain of a Starship. Compliance Takeaways: 1. How can you create a remarkable compliance experience? 2. While performing a quick survey of an idyllic planet doomed for destruction, Captain Kirk goes missing and is knocked unconscious by an advanced alien device, leaving Mr. Spock in command to avert a disastrous asteroid collision. With the Enterprise long gone, Kirk finally comes to, but has lost his memory and is embraced as a god by the planet's primitive inhabitants. Over the course of the next two months, Kirk falls in love and finds happiness with his newfound tribe, but that paradise will be short-lived, unless Spock can figure out a way to deflect the asteroid in time to save the planet. Hailed by many as one of the finest episodes of the third season (if not the entire series), "The Paradise Syndrome" is a beautiful and powerful "Star Trek" classic that's marked by a terrific screenplay, a sublime score, glorious location shooting and stellar performances from the entire cast -- especially William Shatner and guest star Sabrina Scharf as Miramanee. If there's one thing that most -- if not all -- "Star Trek" fans can agree on, it's that the third season simply was not as good as the first two. But that's not to say that it was bad. In fact, it was better than it probably deserved to be, given that the meager budget was cut once again, and some of "Star Trek's" most talented creative forces left for good, such as Story Editor Dorothy Fontana and Cinematographer Jerry Finnerman. And then there's Gene Roddenberry himself, who distanced himself even further from "Star Trek" after NBC dumped it on Friday nights at 10pm. But despite everything stacked against its favor, Season 3 had some pretty great episodes, including "Day of the Dove," "All Our Yesterdays," "The Paradise Syndrome" and "Is There in Truth No Beauty?" Listen to how and why all these changes took place on our Season 3 Preview.Supplemental -- Season 3 PreviewYou can support Enterprise Incidents right here: https://anchor.fm/enterpriseincidents (Just think of it as a “Tip Jar”) You can follow Enterprise Incidents at: Facebook https://www.facebook.com/EnterpriseIncidents Twitter @enterincidents Instagram @enterpriseincidents Follow Scott Mantz @moviemantz on Twitter and Instagram Follow Steve Morris @srmorris on Twitter and srmorris1 on Instagram --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/enterpriseincidents/support
Star Trek TOS S3E03 The Paradise Syndrome
This week! We talk about using similar ideas from one episode to the next and if it's a good thing, we talk again about the Disney movie Smith!, how Playboy in the 60's could get you an acting career, and we discuss how small pox made the Native Americans look even more primitive. All this and more!!
Journey's End has been a long time in coming. It feels like the beginning of the end of the series and it's also an episode I recorded with this guest host almost two years ago. That said, there are a few things I'd like to get off of my chest: Picard does not have Native American heritage. Ro Laren was 8 episodes of TNG and a prominent character in 6 of those episodes. Cardassians had neck frills in their original appearance. The Native Americans from The Original Series episode, "The Paradise Syndrome," were from Earth, not a parallel culture. Romulans have never been remotely "up front." I hope you like two white guys talking about Native American culture for 45 minutes. It was neck and neck whether we could be marginally more enlightened than Star Trek and I think we pulled ahead just a little bit. The Beige and The Bold is hosted on Anchor and is available on most podcasting platforms. New episodes are usually posted on Sunday nights at 9:00 PM CST.

The Paradise Syndrome was the third episode of Star Trek's third season to air, with an amnesiac Kirk adopted as a god by the inhabitants of an earth-like planet. In this episode Gerry and Iain discuss the pitfalls of divinity. With an asteroid en-route to create an extinction level event on the planet Amerind, Kirk and Spock take time for a quick tour before setting off to prevent the collision. After an accident leaves Kirk with memory loss, Spock and the Enterprise must leave him behind to deal with the threat. Meanwhile the amnesiac Kirk is adopted as a deity by the locals and supplants the local medicine chief, Salish (Rudy Solari), taking his position and his bride-to-be Miramanee (Sabrina Scharf). When the time comes to stop the asteroid, however, his lack of omnipotence becomes apparent. The Paradise Syndrome was directed by Jud Taylor, the first of his five episodes in the chair. The writer was Margaret Armen, the second of her three writing credits for the show. In this episode Gerry and Iain considered whether falling down trapdoors is an overrated terror. The discussion continues in the comments below and please keep in touch with us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram where we're @trekpodcast. You can listen to the show here on the website, on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, Pocket Casts, TuneIn, Stitcher, Google or wherever you find your podcasts. It can be viewed on Paramount+ in the United states, Netflix in the UK and is available on DVD and Blu Ray in other countries, including a comprehensive remastered set of all three seasons released by Paramount Home Entertainment.

Have an episode of your favorite show that doesn't quite stand the test of time or societal progress? For Stella Cheeks, it's the Star Trek TOS episode "The Paradise Syndrome," and for Erin Cline, it's the X-Files episode "Excelsis Dei." Can the X-Trekkers find the joy and love in these truly misguided episodes, or are these missteps enough to spoil their favorite shows for good? (Spoilers: We're good at podcasting!) --- About the podcast: Erin Cline and Stella Cheeks have been friends for over a decade but have never seen each other's favorite TV show. Seeking to rectify that grievous error (seriously, they used to live together), X-Treks was born! Following that, we speak with Gerald Fried, the last living composer who worked on the original Star Trek series. At 92, Mr. Fried is just as sharp and has a lifetime of great stories, and came out of retirement to make the score for "Unbelievable!!!!!". Gerald composed five pieces for Star Trek for the episodes "Cat's Paw," "Shore Leave," Friday's Child," "The Paradise Syndrome," and the unforgettable and often-referenced "Amok Time" - yes, he made THAT song! His resume includes around 200 films & shows, and we discuss a few of these in addition to Trek, including scoring Stanley Kubrick's early films, Gilligan's Island, Roots, and more. After compiling several incomplete bootlegs, we were able to restore this lost episode of TMOAE! We'll be back to our regularly scheduled programming whenever we feel like it, or next week; whichever comes first. Enjoy! After a discombobulated intro, we finally get into what should be one of the most contentious TOS episodes ever made. Instead, somehow it isn't, and it has just coasted by unnoticed. Until now. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/the-measure-of-an-episode/message
