MONSTER PARTY GOES FASHION FORWARD AND BEYOND! JAMES GONIS, SHAWN SHERIDAN, LARRY STROTHE, and MATT WEINHOLD, take a time-travel trip down the runway of tomorrow, to celebrate the most incredible outfits from science fiction. It's a guided tour through the garments of the galaxy, as we present... FUTURE FASHION! Whether it's fashion week on Tattoine, Triskelion, or Terra, sci-fi has always provided us with a tantalizing array of would-be wardrobes. This episode playfully takes aim at some of the most amazing, outrageous, and awful creations in genre films and TV throughout the years. With a Tim Gunn-esque eye for detail, we explore the pulp-inspired creations in THINGS TO COME, the hits and misses of STAR TREK, the 70s chic of SPACE:1999 and LOGAN'S RUN, the dressed down/samurai sizzle of STAR WARS, the cyber-punk noir gear of BLADE RUNNER, and much more! But for a podcast of this magnitude, we needed a guest with the one-two punch excitement of Dolce & Gabbana! He's a friend of the show, as well as a talented author, screenwriter, actor, improviser, cartoonist, podcaster, and brand namer. And when he's not doing all that, he's MONSTER PARTY'S go-to armchair science fiction fashion critic. Please welcome back, the always in style... MARC HERSHON! (SUCCOTASH: THE COMEDY SOUNDCAST SOUNDCAST, THE CALIFORNIANS, THE FUNSTER, MONSTER MAKERS, SANTA JR., WEDDING DAZE, I HATE PEOPLE: KICK LOOSE FROM THE OVERBEARING AND UNDERHANDED JERKS AT WORK AND GET WHAT YOU WANT OUT OF YOUR JOB, THE HUFFINGTON POST) AND SPEAKING OF FASHION, WE STILL HAVE T-SHIRTS AND CAPS FOR SALE. SO WHEN THEY ASK YOU WHO YOU'RE WEARING, TELL THEM... MONSTER PARTY!

Maha Shivaratri is the annual Hindu celebration of the union of Shiva and Parvati, the symbol of the timeless and the world of time. All the great traditions recognize the meeting point between timelessness and time, heaven and earth. The Celtic cross represents the union of spirit and matter. Another Celtic symbol is the Triskelion, an image of three universal forces flowing into each other. Three forces are also part of other traditions, such as creation, preservation, and destruction in Hinduism. The Celts were animists who had a deep relationship to the divinity in all things. They had a profound love of nature, including trees, and were very aware of the cycles of time. They believed in the transmigration of the imperishable soul, which travels and returns like the cycles of nature. “Awen” means inspiration, which is experienced when in flow with the patterns of the cosmos. The Celts had a longing for the unknown that showed up in wandering. This is also an honored tradition in India based in faith and trust in the universe. Walking can tap us into something very ancient. Longing is connected to our true home, the heart of God. If we can stay with our longing, it will take us into the mystery. Grief is connected to longing and has the power to break us open to surrender to life. All thresholds, “betwixt and between” places, have power. The other world is close at hand at places where the veils are thin between past, present, and future. Four aims of life are considered: dharma, kama, artha, and moksha. We can realize divinity through anything and everything. Angelon is a workshop leader with a background in Jungian psychology, an editor and author of As It Is, Under the Punnai Tree, The Baul Tradition, Caught in the Beloved's Petticoats, Enlightened Duality (with Lee Lozowick), Krishna's Heretic Lovers, The Art of Contemplation and other books.

On this super-sized episode of "Enterprise Incidents," we're joined for our deep dive of "The Lorelei Signal" by three of the Syfy Sistas (Subrina Wood, Yvette Blackman Tom and Tamia Harper), followed by an amazing interview with actress Michelle Hurd about the impact of this landmark episode, the legacy of Nichelle Nichols and working with the reunited cast of "The Next Generation" for the third and final season of "Star Trek: Picard." While investigating a sector of space where starships have been disappearing every 27 years, the Enterprise is lured to the second planet in the Taurean system by an irresistible siren call that has a hypnotic effect on the male members of the crew. After beaming down to investigate, Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock and Dr. McCoy become the unwitting prisoners of a powerful race of women who gain their strength by feeding off the energy of men. With the men of the crew completely incapacitated, Lt. Uhura takes command of the Enterprise and leads an all-female contingent to overpower their oppressors, break the energy-draining spell and save the lives of Kirk, Spock and McCoy. Written by Margaret Armen -- who wrote "The Original Series" episodes "The Gamesters of Triskelion," "The Paradise Syndrome" and "The Cloud Minders" -- "The Lorelei Signal" is an entertaining episode that's made essential by the truly empowering moment when Uhura takes command of the Enterprise. And you can hear the excitement in Nichelle Nichols' voice, which alone makes "The Lorelei Signal" one of the all-time "Star Trek" greats. While wrapping up a routine mission around an unexplored planet, Captain Kirk encounters one of his greatest heroes, President Abraham Lincoln, who asks to come aboard the Enterprise. Kirk realizes there's no way that this can be the real Lincoln, but he cautiously takes him up on his offer to beam down with him to the planet's surface, where Mr. Spock comes face-to-face with one of his own heroes, Surak of Vulcan. They soon find out that this is all part of a plan by the citizens of Excalbia to stage the ultimate battle between good and evil, and the fate of the Enterprise hangs in the balance. For a variety of reasons, "The Savage Curtain" shouldn't work. Not only is it a rehash of better episodes, like "Arena" and "Spectre of the Gun" (not to mention "The Gamesters of Triskelion" and "Return to Tomorrow"), but the image of Lincoln floating through space towards the Enterprise starts the episode on a downright silly note. The fact that "The Savage Curtain" overcomes these flaws to emerge as a strong and entertaining episode is a testament to its strengths, the biggest of which is guest star Lee Bergere, who really sells it with his committed performance as Lincoln. As Kirk, Uhura and Chekov are kidnapped by compulsive gamblers, Cory, Emily and Clint dive into the seedy underbelly of this episode.
Boooooooooooooooooooooy howdy, did Carrie and Sarah pick quite the episode to come back with. This week, after the long break of trying to be humans, Carrie and Sarah dive into this terrible moment in history. Trigger warnings include but are not limited to: assault against women, implied rape, heteronormative statements, transphobia, and a little slavery and racism thrown in there, because why not?!
What a huge honor to be joined for our deep dive of “The Gamesters of Triskelion” by our very special guest Walter Koenig, who of course played Mr. Chekov in the original “Star Trek” series and the first seven feature films! While preparing to beam down to Gamma II for routine maintenance of its automated facilities, Captain Kirk, Lt. Uhura and Mr. Chekov are whisked away to the distant planet Triskelion, where they are to be trained as drill thralls and fight for the amusement of their powerful oppressors, known as the Providers. After his investigation of Gamma II shows no signs of the landing party, Mr. Spock follows his instincts and takes the Enterprise halfway across the galaxy in an effort to continue his search, despite continued resistance from Dr. McCoy and Mr. Scott. Meanwhile, Captain Kirk discovers the true identity of the Providers, with whom he wagers the biggest gamble of his life in an effort to save his crew and free the inhabitants of Triskelion once and for all. While it doesn't come close to representing “Star Trek” at its best, “The Gamesters of Triskelion” still qualifies as a solid, entertaining and action-packed episode in its own right that features terrific production values, well-choreographed fight scenes and committed performances from William Shatner and guest star Angelique Pettyjohn. Light-Hearted Action Hieron is a wolven fisherman, but he fishes in the seas of a great gas giant for the rarest meat of all--Galumphrey, the morsels of the mighty, the delicacies of the decadent. More precious than gold. Hieron hopes to make money to start a new life with Eyrie, a beautiful wolven of house emerald vines in bloom. For those of you who stuck around, my only regret is not being able to make the stories more enjoyable. That was always my goal, entertainment. Hope you crack a smile or two at my voice acting at least! Thank you so much for listening. It meant a lot to me. --Michael Doyle
The Gamesters of Triskelion was the sixteenth episode of Star Trek's second season to air, with an intergalactic gladiatorial contest set up by some disembodied brains. In this episode Gerry and Iain discuss whether Uhura's ordeal was handled badly. After being zapped across a dozen light years or more, Kirk - along with Uhura and Chekov - are declared Thralls and told by the head Thrall, Galt (Joseph Ruskin), that they are to be trained to fight in the arena for the rest of their lives. Their training is to be provided by Lars (Steve Sandor) who is assigned to Uhura, Tamoon (Jane Ross) who is to train Chekov and Shahna (Angelique Pettyjohn) who is allocated to work with Kirk. Meanwhile, the Enterprise must follow an unlikely path if they are to arrive in time to rescue their crewmates. The Gamesters of Triskelion was directed by Gene Nelson, his only Star Trek episode. The writer was Margaret Armen, the first of her three scripts for the show. In this episode Gerry and Iain considered Kirk's forceful interactions with Shahna. The discussion continues in the comments below and please keep in touch with us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram where we're @trekpodcast. You can listen to the show here on the website, on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, Pocket Casts, TuneIn, Stitcher, Google or wherever you find your podcasts. The Gamesters of Triskelion was released in 1968. It is 50 minutes long and originally aired on the NBC network. It can be viewed on CBS All Access in the United states, Netflix in the UK and is available on DVD and Blu Ray in other countries, including a comprehensive remastered set of all three seasons released by Paramount Home Entertainment.
