Mind–body dualism is a philosophical view which holds that mental phenomena are, at least in certain respects, not physical phenomena, meaning that the mind and the body are distinct and separable from one another. Of course… If you practice yoga, you know this is definitely not the case. We feel, think, and often remember through our body. Our body is a part of Prakriti “primary subatomic particles.” Our minds are also a part Prakriti. And what is left after prakriti is gone is simply awareness: Purusha, what we might call “Presence.” We are awareness you and I. We are linked. This is Paramatman. We are joined this way. False dichotomies are rife in our society. Red Blue. Body Mind. Them Us. High Brow Low Brow. Our guest today, our dear friend, Erik Jacobsen is a student. Self taught. In that he's a life long learner with a passion for understanding being and demonstrating right action. Erik is a tattoo artist. He's punk. He's self made. He went to art school (but that is not exactly school) and has buried his art in the ground. And he's buried it inside this impermanent flesh — another kind of ground. But Erik is also this: He's an artist whose material, whose ground, is the the body. And nothing more so activates his art then his audience… The flesh. Flesh which itself represents the consciousness waking up, aware of itself housed inside a body. In painting we often refer to the ground as two things: First, it's the treatment of the canvas or wood with a preservative that keeps the oil from eating away at it. Second, it's the space in which the subject sits—an apple for example. The mistake a young artist often makes is to say that two are separate. That is to say, the subject becomes an object with no context. And to suggest that the context doesn't affect the subject is a lie. That the light is not a part of the being of the apple is an untruth. The apple is light. Absolutely everything is made of stardust. And this is where we're meeting Jacob today... somewhere amongst the stars. JUNE 1 - 12, 2023 All-Inclusive Turkey Retreat! A little child may be taught that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, even though in reality it is understood that the earth is the one revolving around the sun. However, in order to help the child understand, it is easier to first introduce the topic in this manner.Likewise, according to advaita vedānta, only one exists. Yet, to reach a stage where one is firmly convinced of this Truth of oneness, one must first go through a phase of understanding that there are two – the jivātman and the paramātman. The kaṭhopaṇisad  brings us step-by-step through this process, while leaving it entirely open to one's own discrimination. If you'd like to get the links and shownotes for this episode, visit:https://www.saiprakashana.org/KU-EP25

A Walk in the Heart ♥️ A Podcast on Tantra, Psychology and Spirituality

In this episode, hosts Uriel and Blandine discuss at the Amrita Integral Yoga Centre in Chiang Mai, Thailand about the concepts of small wholes and big wholes. Sounds weird? Well, it's easier than you might think. Our relationship with the small “wholes”, or units –like family, friends, relationships and work environment– affect the big “whole”, the big unity of all things –may you call it God, the Absolute, Paramatman, the Tao– and our relationship with it. In this context we will touch important spiritual questions, like the effect of our spiritual practice on our daily life, how to love deep and shamelessly, integrating the couple relationship as a spiritual tool, the severe effects of guilt, the essential challenge of humanity today and: finally we will discover why Uriel choses to be the doormat of doormats. Note: The following phrases and keywords may be of use to the listener: Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Bahkti Yoga, and Tantra. The Brahmavidya Upanishad (Sanskrit: ब्रह्मविद्या उपनिषत्, IAST: Brahmavidyā Upaniṣad) is a Sanskrit text and one of the minor Upanishads of Hinduism. It is one of twenty Yoga Upanishads in the four Vedas. The Upanishad mainly explains the structure of Om, aspect of its sound, its placement, its beginning and end, and the significance of the Laya (fading away of its sound).Om is Brahman (ultimate reality), asserts the text. The text is notable for stating that gods live inside human body as five Atmans, with Vishnu in the throat, Rudra in the middle of the palate, Shiva in the forehead, Sadashiva at the tip of nose, and the Brahman in the heart. The innermost Atman, states the text, is same as the all transcendent Paramatman, the Brahman pervading everywhere. Ref: Wikipedia
