Thiruneeragam is one of the 108 Divya Desams, the sacred Vishnu temples revered in the hymns of the Alvars. Located within the Ekambareswarar Temple complex in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, this temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, worshipped here as Neeragathan with Goddess Nilamangai Thayar. The temple holds great significance in Vaishnavism, as Thirumangai Alvar has sung its praises in the Divya Prabandham. The name "Thiruneeragam" is derived from "Neer" (water), symbolizing purity and devotion. Though small in structure, the temple's spiritual essence attracts devotees seeking divine blessings and liberation (Moksha).

The Buddhists reject all kind of Spirituality, they want only Nirvana… And all Spirituality is a distraction from their purpose to go to Nirvana… the extinction of the ego. Nirvana should be perfect peace and calmness. Even to feel bliss and love is a distraction…It never has existed the destruction or extinction of the ego during our life or afterward… Like all the other Religions the Buddhists like to sell dreams and to suck out the people. Still, the teaching and techniques from the Buddhists are good. So why we should not enjoy or gain our Spirituality? And what is True Spirituality? We have read or even seen Magic or people who have gained Magic and exhibit their Magic.Imagine, you have kidney stones and you go to a Philippine Healer and he removes the kidney stones without surgery. And then you see that the Philippine healers are pursuit from the authority for their wrongdoing… This means magic healing is forbidden and black magic?!!When the doctors are vaccinating with 14 vaccines a baby and 65% of the babies getting chronicle ill then this is SCIENCE? What is White Magic? If we discover this very endless moment where we can embrace the irresistible whole being… we are mad or insane for the doctor… maybe they deliver us to a madhouse… Regardless of what kind of Spirituality we experience it is denied, forbidden or rejected. The Africans are beating the drums, singing and dancing like crazy to experience a spiritual helper in the animal realm. During the dancing, the Africans going into a trance, healing occurs… For the Missionaries is this evil.If the Christian Africans dancing and singing like crazy and experience the Lord, then this is awesome… During the African worship of Jesus healing and many miracles happen. And this Spirituality is accepted by the church… The demonstration of Spirituality to gain power or money is rather more Black Magic. And we should not waste our time on that!If we see the awesome Kung Fu fighters who have magical power without that they surrender their life to the Lord or to heal the people, then this is Black Magic too.We can easily gain great spiritual and healing power through Qigong. Even Qigong is connected to Kung Fu. It is more important what we do with our spiritual power than what kind of spiritual power we do have.Through meditation, we gain awesome Spirituality without harming anybody. And everybody is gaining his natural Spirituality without forcing anything. When we suddenly embrace blissful the irresistible whole being and are in trance, then that has happened through our spiritual practice (meditation, yoga, Qigong) naturally. And we should be grateful without telling anybody about that… I don't want that you get in trouble, - enjoy and be grateful.Still, I think that the best is to be connected to God and have faith in God. Summary on Kaṇāda Kaṇāda, also known as Ulūka or Kashyapa, was an ancient Indian natural philosopher and the founder of the Vaisheshika school of Indian philosophy. He is often regarded as the earliest proponent of atomism in the world, proposing that the universe is composed of indivisible, eternal atoms (paramanu), which combine in various ways to form different substances. His ideas were recorded in the seminal text Vaiśeṣika Sūtra, which outlined a realistic and pluralistic ontology. Estimated to have lived between the 6th century BCE and 2nd century BCE, Kaṇāda's philosophy explains the creation and functioning of the universe through six fundamental categories (padarthas): dravya (substance), guna (quality), karma (motion), samanya (generality), visesha (particularity), and samavaya (inherence). These categories encompass everything that can be experienced and known. Kaṇāda's atomistic theory influenced later Hindu, Jain, and Buddhist philosophies and may have inspired thinkers in fields like medicine and physics, including scholars like Charaka. Though primarily focused on physical phenomena, Kaṇāda also integrated metaphysical ideas, such as the concept of Atman (soul) and the pursuit of moksha (liberation) through knowledge. Key Contributions: 1. Atomism: Proposed that all matter is made of indestructible atoms. 2. Nine Substances: Identified nine dravyas (substances) including earth, water, fire, air, ether (akasha), time, direction, mind, and soul. 3. Non-Theistic Approach: Suggested that natural laws, rather than a deity, govern the universe. 4. Empirical Observations: Explained natural phenomena such as fire rising upwards, magnetism, and rainfall using logical reasoning. 5. Ethical Framework: Defined dharma as that which leads to material progress and spiritual liberation. Kaṇāda's logical and analytical approach laid the groundwork for scientific inquiry in India and significantly influenced the Nyaya school of philosophy, which emphasized logic and epistemology. His ideas on atoms and matter predated similar concepts proposed by Greek philosophers like Democritus.
Hello, and welcome to Entangled! The podcast where we explore the science of consciousness, the true nature of reality, and what it means to be a spiritual being having a human experience.I'm your host, Jordan Youkilis, and in this episode, I interview my professor, Dr. Sue Brown, on Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's commentary on the Bhagavad Gita. This episode serves as part of the Maharishi Vedic Science miniseries, so if you enjoy this discussion, check out the rest of the series in episodes 47-53.In this conversation, Dr. Brown and I discuss the Bhagavad Gita's setting on a battlefield, the ultimate location of conflict and extreme differences. We discuss how the battlefield is symbolic of the challenges people face in the world. Dr. Brown describes how to go inward to the field of unity in order to transcend these conflicts.Next, we consider this act of transcending as the essence of the Bhagavad Gita, and the practice of Transcendental Meditation as a pathway for avoiding war. Sue describes Chapter 2, Verses 45 and 48 as master keys to unlocking the wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita. We discuss the events of the Gita in the broader context of the Mahabharata in which they take place. From there, Dr. Brown explains how Maharishi's commentary differs from those of other sages throughout the ages. We consider the universal field of consciousness, which our individual brains reflect. We discuss how Krishna helps Arjuna navigate the conflict between his heart and mind, between the collective consciousness demands for him to defend his people while also having compassion for the family members on the opposing force whom he must kill. Dr. Brown and I discuss how the human dilemmas captured in the Bhagavad Gita are universal issues, encountered throughout the ages.Next, we consider Samkhya (theoretical) and Yoga (practical) knowledge contained in the Gita. We discuss how Arjuna reconciles the sin of murder and war with the transcendental forces of collective consciousness. We consider the time period of the Bhagavad Gita, and the similarities with our current Kali Yuga – an age of stress. We discuss the opportunity we currently have to usher in Satya Yuga, a time of construction and creativity. From there, we dive into Chapter 3 and ideas of Yagya, Dharma, Karma Yoga, the path of action, and Gyana Yoga, the path of knowledge. We discuss why the danger of following another's dharma is more dangerous than death. We then discuss Chapter 4 and how action and renunciation of action are two sides of the same coin. We consider misinterpretations of the Gita, including those who view renunciation/detachment as a necessary state of life, rather than as a state of consciousness. We consider the rise and fall of knowledge throughout time.Dr. Brown explains why Maharishi chose to emphasize his teachings on the practical effect of enlightenment, not just the theoretical knowledge. We discuss the four pillars of Yoga – Raja, Karma, Bhakti and Gyana Yoga, and the concept of Moksha, or liberation. We consider how action in accordance with natural law leads to spontaneous right action, and how the path of enlightenment is one of effortlessness and bliss. We then discuss Krishna's final words to Arjuna in Chapter 6, his guidance: “Therefore, be a Yogi.”. We end the conversation discussing the state of unity consciousness and how Brahmin consciousness refers to regaining memory of totality.Music from the show is available on the Spotify playlist “Entangled – The Vibes”. I say absolutely Yes! Still, I recommend it. If we want to write a motorcycle we should learn first to ride a bicycle.Irresponsible Meditation teachers even give the beginner a big motorcycle (a 10-day Meditation retreat with 9 hours Meditation/day) and expect that you can ride the big heavy motorcycle without practicing anything before. Stop that nonsense. Such Meditation retreats can cause neuroses, psychoses and can end in psychotic behavior with suicide. Most of the Meditation teachers don't understand Meditation because they teach suppression of feelings and thoughts instead to learn to watch and accept them. The people are coming to them, because of their great reputation that these Meditation masters have never deserved.A Meditation master who gives meditation retreats for everybody should be jailed!!!Don't spoil Meditation. Meditation is the greatest thing and has to be taught naturally and very slowly. The teachers of Osho, the Dao and the Sufis teach meditation in a slow approach because they know Meditation can be dangerous. Because of our tricky ego, the Meditation needs to be tricky too. In the beginning, we have to trick out our Ego to connect with the divine. And that can be dangerous if we make too much Meditation in the beginning. Our today disease is that we want too much too fast… We meditate for some minutes and over some months we increase the time of meditation. That is the principle of KaiZen. We start at home or on a Meditation course with body exercise that relaxes our body and mind and afterward with a short meditation. Meditation has always a focus and never a goal. All these so holly goals, like Nirvana, Moksha, Enlightenment, Hell, and Heaven had never existed. Even today, the pope said there is no Heaven or Hell. (Read my book: Why the Religions have failed and not God.) Only through Meditation, we can enjoy our life or the “here and now”. Because through Meditation we get so much bliss and inside happiness that we don't depend on worldly pleasures so much. Who wonders that I was over 12 years in Meditation retreats? I started with baby steps and at the end, I could do the retreats even for 9 months! I got adored for my Meditation from the President of the Hindus….Meditation is not for suppressing our problems, feelings … Through Meditation we learn to solve our problems fast and efficient without being attached. We get detached when we learn to watch our feelings, thoughts and our nonsense in our brain. Meditation should make us empty… And is the best remedy against our longing for a distraction to suppress our feelings and thoughts. Our thoughts are created to 80% through our anxiety. If you become fearful in your Meditation then learn to watch your fears. After some time the fears are gone through watching of them. Feel your fears and don't be your fears. (Zen) We can make out of every task a meditation. Even when we have sex we can make out of it a meditation. For that has created Shiva the sexually Techniques inside of the Tantra and the Chinese have created the Tao-Love.Real Meditation is to connect to the divine /God and through that, we get bliss and stillness in our mind. This is the Catchup on 3 Things by The Indian Express and I'm Ichha Sharma.Today is the 17th of January and here are this week's headlines. An estimated 40 crore people are expected to descend on the banks of the Ganga in Prayagraj for the Maha Kumbh Mela, which commenced on Monday and will end on February 26. Besides this, 50 lakh pilgrims and sadhus plan to stay in camps for the entire duration of the event. The spiritual festival, held every 12 years, attracts millions of devotees who gather to bathe at the sacred Triveni Sangam, where the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers converge. It is the world's biggest religious gathering, with deep links to Hindu mythology wherein participants seek forgiveness for their sins and aspire for Moksha, or spiritual liberation.Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Z-Morh tunnel at Sonamarg, a strategic infrastructural project that is key to all-weather connectivity to Ladakh. The tunnel has been renamed as Sonamarg tunnel, after the famous tourist resort that will have round-the-year connectivity after this project. PM Modi inspected the 6.5-kilometre tunnel and interacted with workers who played a role in its construction. The soft-opening of the tunnel was carried out in February last year, but Assembly elections delayed the project's official inauguration. The Indian Space Research Organisation successfully docked its SpaDeX satellites on Thursday, after bringing them within 3 meters of each other. Following the docking, ISRO confirmed the satellites were functioning as a single unit. The space agency mentioned that undocking and power transfer checks would follow in the coming days. The docking process had previously been delayed twice, on 7th and 9th of January, due to technical issues. The satellites were launched on 30th December. On the global front, Los Angeles firefighters faced high winds over the week as they battled two massive wildfires that have caused extensive destruction, killing at least 24 people. The fires, which have scorched an area the size of Washington D.C., were egzazzerbated by Santa Ana winds, with gusts reaching up to 75 mph. Over 8,500 firefighters worked tirelessly to contain the blazes and prevent further spread, as authorities issued a red flag warning for dangerous conditions in the region.Meanwhile, a ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israeli negotiators is set to end the 15-month Gaza conflict, with the deal taking effect on January 19. The agreement, brokered by US President Joe Biden, includes swapping hostages for imprisoned Palestinians in Israel. Biden, who played a pivotal role in the negotiations, views this achievement as a significant foreign policy legacy. While he is credited with ending the bloodiest phase of the Israel-Gaza conflict, he shares this accomplishment with his successor, Donald Trump. This was the Catch Up on 3 Things by the Indian Express

An application filed under the Right to Information Act and official documents sourced by The Indian Express have revealed that the decline, health department officials, doctors and experts say, is primarily due to a drug shortage that the mohalla clinics faced last year. Mohalla clinics, the centrepiece of the Aam Aadmi Party government's health infrastructure, were first set up in October 2015. Since then, the clinics, which are meant to be the first point of contact for patients with basic illnesses, have caught the attention of many from across the world. The death toll in the devastating Los Angeles wildfires has risen to 24, the LA County Medical Examiner confirmed today. The Religions have owned the spirituality and they reject all other spirituality! The Religions discriminate spiritual people who are not in their Religion. Everybody can gain high spirituality with all kinds of magic without participating in any Religion when he has the dispositions and does what is necessary. For instance:to levitate, to materialize, to channel information from other souls or from the cosmos, or to be it in Samadhi. These Spiritual Powers can become great obstacles on the spiritual path of humility and love. After some time, the Spiritual Power trips will lead to a devastating life.Great was their rise and also great was their fall.I think we should open our heart to the divine or God and do what God demands from us. Otherwise, we follow our Ego, regardless how much spirituality we gain. Even more, we should develop love to God.The Buddhist and Jnani Yoga don't have a personal God relationship. Their Goal is not to feel or think any more. Because they want to reach Nirvana or Moksha. Even a loving relationship with total surrender to God is nonsense for them. After many years the Buddhists Monks and Jnani Yogi have killed their own feelings and passions. What I see is that they have closed their heart and are not open to love and compassion anymore. Most of all Jnani Yogis are over-intellectual and that is a big obstacle on the spiritual path. What has this to do with true spirituality, to serve and love God selflessly?Gita Chapter 9:25 Those who worship the demigods will take birth among the demigods; those who worship ghosts and spirits will take birth among such beings; those who worship ancestors go to the ancestors; and those who worship Me will live with Me. The same is true for the Sufis, who only accept to surrender to God and not to any other spirit.Moksha and Nirvana are the Gods of the Buddhists Monks and Jnani Yogis. Because they are focused on them instead to be focused on God! The Gita says that we should surrender to God otherwise we never get our full potential. Why should we surrender our life to our EGO Trips when we can choose God? Think this over,- all the other Goals in our life are obstacles to focus on God. Never the less we have worldly desires and we should live the important Goals. And then we focus on God again without demanding Moksha, Enlightenment, Nirvana, Paradise or anything else! If I love you and demand something back from you then this is not love! For instance, a woman says she loves you and she wants money for sex,- is this Love? If we love God, we don't want something back! Rather more we are thankful for what we have. People are chasing the ultimate peace and calmness… that never will happen or has happened. Because the religions know how to sell dreams and deliver B.S. like the today marketing experts. There is nothing new in this world. If we read the famous Sufi classic from Attar: The confidence of the birds, we understand much more. For the Sufis doesn't exist Nirvana, Enlightenment, Moksha and they don't care or even don't mention hell or paradise. Because for them is the goal to serve God or the people, without demanding anything. The Sufi path is a spiritual path without an end, without reaching a goal.Attar mention when we feel peace and happiness, it will end. Because everybody has inside his body “snakes and scorpions”, who can bite at every inopportune moment us and then the peace is over. How to deal with our life, our life dramas, and our negative feelings? When we suppress our negative feelings and thoughts we will get punished by severe diseases, depression or become a living cadaver. This is not the solution. If we try to live save, don't take a risk, so that we don't get any life drama. Then we are already dead. In this case get your box, lie in it and die. There is one problem we can't die, we can only give up our body and then we are spirits. As a spirit, we can only watch the world and not participate. Imagine you can only watch and not participate. Wouldn't you regret the things that you didn't have enjoyed or done or the bad things that you have done? Now, you can live your dreams later not! When we enjoy the dramas in a movie, how would it be that we enjoy our own dramas? If we are not anymore afraid of our dramas we can risk without any problem. We would be totally free and live an awesome life. We should learn during our time to enjoy our negative feelings and thoughts. Instead, we are doing everything to suppress our negativity and that never has worked out!If we want to feel happy we have also to feel our negative feelings! Complex is a digital media survivor. It has lived many lives, including as a magazine, a dot-com, an ad network, Go90 (RIP) provider, YouTube showrunner, events organizer, hot sauce merchant, neglected BuzzFeed brand, and now in its latest iteration as a commerce engine. Complex President Moksha Fitzgibbons joins the show to discuss his return to Complex, where he was an integral part of the founding team going back to its Marc Ecko days, and how the youth culture brand is betting on combining its reach and engagement with the live shopping platform of NTWRK, which bought Complex for $108 million in February. Moksha discusses how the brand plans to focus increasingly on driving commerce and far less on selling advertising. Going Pro Yoga (Formerly the Yoga Teacher Evolution Podcast)
In this episode, Akshay Bhat, a yoga teacher and Ayurvedic practitioner, explores the four pillars of life in Ayurveda: Dharma (righteousness), Artha (material possessions), Kama (fulfillment of desires), and Moksha (liberation). He emphasizes that balancing these aspects is crucial to leading a happy and healthy life. Akshay delves into how Ayurveda and yoga are interconnected, with both practices supporting spiritual growth and well-being. Ayurveda, which dates back over 6,000 years, is not just a system for physical health but also a guide for living a purposeful life. The speakers discuss how disease is viewed as a "mistake of intelligence" in Ayurveda, and how balance across the four life pillars is key to achieving wellness. The concept of Dharma is explored, contrasting it with Adharma, which represents a life driven by ego and negative emotions. The importance of balancing material and spiritual needs, or Artha, is highlighted, with the caution that modern society often promotes unnecessary desires. Finally, Moksha, or liberation, is discussed, with the speakers suggesting that it can be found through various activities like yoga, meditation, and creative pursuits. Each person's path to freedom is unique, and discovering what brings a sense of expansion is essential for personal growth. 18th Chapter: verse 40, 41, 42, 43, 4440th verse: “Everyone in this world is dictated by these three gunas.”Lord Krishna divides human traits in three areas – sattvic, rajasik and tamasik.A sattvic person is calm and serene even in difficult situations. A rajasik person is swayed by his circumstances. A tamasik person is lazy, confused and deluded. The sattvic person has emotional equanimity. He is not elated in success and he is not devastated in failure. The rajasic person is swayed by success and failure.Lord Krishna discusses these traits because he wants us to combine action with mental equilibrium. Understanding that everything in this world is transient – success, failure, heath and so on – we should develop an attitude that helps us remain in perfect equanimity of mind even in difficult situations. The 41st verse onwards, Lord Krishna discusses four groups of people based on people's innate spiritual qualities (gunas). These four groups are: (1) Brahmana (2) Kshatriya (3) Vaishya (4) Sudra. In Hindu tradition, there were also four stages of human life and four values which guide human life. The four stages of human life are Brahmacharya (student), Grhastha (householder), Vanaprastha (forest hermitage) and Sannyasa (renunciate). Manu Smriti says that when one sees the face of his grandchild, when his face begins to wrinkle and when his hair begins to turn grey, he should retire to a life of hermitage. The four values that guide human life are dharma, artha, kama, and moksha. Kama represents our desires, what we want to achieve. Artha represents the means to achieve those goals. Dharma represents a set of moral disciplines that guide and regulate our pursuit of artha and kama. Moksha represents the highest value in human existence and means liberation from the bondage of samsara.42nd verse: “Who is a brahmana? Lord Krishna lists the following qualities: Shama (control of mind), dama (control of the senses), Tapah (austerities for a higher purpose), saucha (mental and physical purity), kshantih (forbearance), uprightness, jnanam (natural inclination for knowledge), vijnanam (realization), astikyam (belief in the law of karma and doctrine of reincarnation).43rd verse: “Who is a Kshatriya? Lord Krishna lists the following qualities: ambition for power, boldness, fortitude, dexterity, not running away from battle, generosity, assertion of freedom.”44th verse: “Who is a Vaishya? Lord Krishna lists the following duties: agriculture, cattle rearing and trade – an inclination to do business and acquire wealth.” In the midst of earning wealth, the Vaishya may engage in higher duties such as charity. These duties are based on the social circumstances that prevailed when Gita was written.44th verse: “Who is a Sudra? Lord Krishna lists the following duties: not interested in higher values, want to do simple service.”Lord Krishna lists these four groups to represent four levels of human evolution. We can always climb up the ladder, acquire sattvic qualities, and become a Brahmana.Shankaracharya defines Brahmana as one who has a dominance of Sattva-guna and in whom Rajo guna is secondary.Shankaracharya defines Kshatriya as one who has a dominance of Rajo-guna, and in whom sattva-guna is secondary.Shankaracharya defines Vaishya as one who has a dominance of Rajo-guna, and in whom tamo-guna is secondary.Shankaracharya defines Sudra as one who has a dominance of Tamo-guna, and in whom Rajo-guna is secondary.Highest spiritual evolution happens when we transcend the three gunas. Such a person is called Guṇātita. One has to be fully established in sattva guna to transcend the three gunas. In spiritual life, we are all individual travelers. Just like someone traveling in a train meets other travelers – similarly, it is an accidental meeting with our near and dear ones in this life. Our journey comes to an end when we experience and realize our true identity as the Atman.

This practice is focusing on the 3rd Niyama; Tapas – Yogic Austerity. Tapas means heat of positive change. This is said to be the earliest term for the ‘austerity of Yoga' and the endeavours of the practitioners. Tap means to burn or glow, it includes the element of fire (Agni) that is also said to be the essential element to create life, to heal, to inspire and to transform. Agni is seen to be the sacrificial fire that reintegrates what has been contaminated by being human – life experiences, judgements, bias, our opinions, our ignorance that makes us forget what we truly are and limits us to who we think we are. Tapas refers to inner heat, the desire that leads to ecstatic and creative states, so pointing the Yogi to something positive. Tapas usually involves having healthy boundaries with others and ourselves (Brahmacharya) and control of your senses (Indriya Jaya) through physical acts of austerity, concentration and mediation. The results are that the Yogi is left strong, filled with vitality (Bala, Virya) and it states that they are radiantly heavenly (Jyotish) they have an aura that is beamingly resplendent (Tejas). So why do Tapas, well to fulfil our Vedic goals of life, these are the Purusarthas; Dharma, Artha, Kama, Moksha. To read more and to practice with Zephyr Wildman, click here. What are the qualities Swamiji modelled for all of us and how might we model them in our own lives?
"Grenada is very traditional" says my guest, Moksha, who was born and raised on the island and now lives in the US. "A large portion of Grenadians still believe that 'little girls should be seen and not heard' and girls should concentrate on domestics and house keeping," continues my guest. Coincidentally, that 'saying' about little girls is an English proverb. Grenada was colonized by the English from 1763 to 1974 and then by the French from 1979 to 1983 so they still have a residual effect of these different ruling cultures. "House, car, land," those were the presupposed priorities for a young married woman.I love that Moksha say "mothers are the culture keepers," and it's so very true. What would we do without our mom's telling us stories about the generations before us. There was definitely some conflict between Moksha and her mom because my guest often questioned things from a very young age. In particular, she had questions about spirituality and religion which she explained was way too complicated to cover in one episode of SHLTMM.An overprotective mother believes she's doing what's best for her daughter, but not so in Moksha's case. It created more conflict around the house and that wasn't beneficial to anyone. What seemed to be the hardest part was her lack of freedom. She was never a daughter to sneak out at night, instead she just told her parents that she was going out. She just knew who she was and what she needed out of life from a young age. And when it came to Moksha dating or meeting new male friends, that was definitely NOT going to happen based on her parents beliefs.Cecelia's mom always believed in the benefits of higher education, so she continues to study to learn and improve her opportunities with her own business, "Celebration Cakes." With a high school education she began different jobs but keep in mind "girls were supposed to stay home with domestic work,"Moksha says. It was the boys, who continued with school and were able to take jobs.Moksha is dialed into nutrition/diet and wellbeing and it all began with her mother's knowledge and love for native foods in Grenada. Food is an important part of the culture and family in Grenada and traditions are handed down generation to generation. Moksha's business "Sovereign Eats," is all about food and it's healing properties. It's unfortunate, but Moksha feels that so much of the cultural ideas of her home land have been left behind. She's hoping to keep those traditions alive by sharing her knowledge through Sovereign Eats. When asked if Moksha thought her mom had regrets about her limitations as a young girl, she said "yes, absolutely, most likely based on her mom's past and boundaries put on her when she was a young girl."Check out Moksha's Sovereign Eats website at 'sovereigneats.com.' "Should Have Listened To My Mother" is an ongoing conversation about mothers and the roles they play in our lives. And my guests answer the question, 'are you who you are today because of, or in spite of, your mother'? You'll be amazed at what the responses are."Should Have Listened To My Mother" would not be possible without the generosity, sincerity and insight from my guests. In getting ready to launch my podcast, so many were willing to give their time and share their personal relationships with their mother. Some of my guests include Baritone Singer Christopheren Nomura, Pulitzer Prize Winning Journalist Tim Wacker, Activist Kim Miller, Freighter Sea Captain Terry Viscount, Film Production Manager Peg Robinson, Professor of Writing Montclair State University Dr. Bridget Brown, Tammy Steckler, attorney and family advocate @CUNY Law; NYC First Responder/NYC Firefighter Mark Heingartner, Child and Adult Special Needs Activist, Maryellen Valyo Cole and Roger Evens, Property Manager in New Jersey and so many more talented and insightful women and men.I've worked in the broadcasting industry for over four decades. The Hindu concept of Dharma, which can be understood as righteousness, moral duty, or the right way of living, has a profound relationship with health and well-being. Dharma is one of the four Purusharthas or goals of a human life in Hinduism, alongside Artha (prosperity), Kama (desire), and Moksha (liberation). It encompasses duties, rights, laws, conduct, virtues, and the "right way of living." This concept is not only crucial for spiritual development and societal harmony but also significantly impacts individual health and well-being in several ways. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/nilnia/support

Announcement: Enrollment is now open for the next cohort of the Way of the Priestess. We begin March 22, 2024, and Richard will be one of our guest teachers When I first discovered that when everyone is talking about “Full moon in Leo” the actual moon in the sky is most often in the constellation of Cancer my mouth dropped! How could this be? Ever since I was a kid I loved looking at the stars and astronomy was one of my favorite subjects in school. I've always asked questions like, “Why are we here? Where did we come from, and what's the point of all of this?” So many of these questions have begun to be answered through my study of Vedic Astrology, the ancient form of astrology from India. In Vedic astrology, our chart is a printout of our karma, the lessons our soul came to experience in this life. We bring with us our beneficial and challenging karmas to be lived out and worked through. Our soul has different reasons for incarnating - for example Dharma, Artha (Money, and how we earn it), Kama (Passion, desire) and Moksha (liberation). In this episode of The Bearded Mystic Podcast, host Rahul N Singh guides us through verses 19 to 21 of Chapter 14 from the Bhagavad Gita. He delves into the concept of the three gunas - qualities that govern our actions, and the transcendental state that can be achieved when one recognizes and detaches from them. The episode further explores ways to cultivate self-awareness, the journey towards spiritual knowledge, and how to attain a divine state of being as extended by Arjuna's quest for understanding. Furthermore, the discussion revolves around concepts such as birth, death and the transcending of misery, the pursuit of material happiness, Moksha or ultimate freedom, and the mystical nature of Atma or soul. The episode wraps up with a promise to explore the answers to Arjuna's questions in the next episode and a call to action to engage further with Rahul's work on various platforms.Translation used: The Bhagavad Gita Comes Alive: A Radical Translation by Jeffrey ArmstrongIf you enjoyed listening to the 94th episode of the Thoughts on The Bhagavad Gita and want to listen to more episodes like this on the Bhagavad Gita, or on Non-Duality, or the wisdom of the Mystics please follow/subscribe to this Podcast. The 18th chapter is the longest and is about moksha-sannyasa-yoga. It is also considered as a condensation of the previous 17 chapters.Moksha represents the highest value in human existence and means liberation from the bondage of samsara. Sannyasa means giving up the feeling up doer-ship and the renouncement of ego.According to Hindu tradition, four values guide human life – dharma, artha, kama, and moksha. Kama represents our desires, what we want to achieve. Artha represents the means to achieve those goals. Dharma represents a set of moral disciplines that guide and regulate our pursuit of artha and kama. When we do not violate the path of dharma, then we can focus on something higher than artha and kama. That gives a new meaning to life. Life becomes more livable and enjoyable. The realization of the imperfections of worldly enjoyments brings about the pursuit of something higher and transcendental. This divine discontent is called Parinama Dukha, and it is the springboard of spiritual wisdom. These are two stages in our pursuit of the transcendental. First stage is one where we use the higher transcendental value to guide our daily life. At a higher stage, we attain the higher transcendental value and become a mendicant. It is important to understand that in Gita, the principles of dharma, artha, kama, and moksha are primarily meant to be applied at an individual level (not at a macro, society level), for one's own spiritual development in everyday life.In Hindu tradition, there is a method of understanding the central theme of a book, which is comprised of six elements: Upakrama-Upasamhara (commencement, conclusion), Abhyasa (practice or reiteration), Apurvata (novelty), Phalam (practical utility), Arthavada (glorifying statement) and Upapatti (logical analysis).Upakrama-Upasamhara – Normally, the beginning and conclusion should be the same. Gita does not begin with a focus on action It starts with Arjuna's dilemma, which was due to ignorance. When this ignorance was removed through knowledge, he became a man of action. Arjuna's last statement in the Gita is: “I am now free of all doubts. I shall act according to your instructions.”Abhyasa – Gita repeatedly talks about efficiency, detachment, bhakti, and karma yoga. It emphasizes that jnanam is necessary to be active in an intelligent manner.Apurvata – If something is stated in Gita but is not stated elsewhere, then it must be the central theme of Gita.Arthavada - Gita ends with the glorifying verse: “Wherever the ideals of action and contemplation are present, there will be victory, prosperity, justice and stability of life.” This verse is a condensation of the 18th chapter.Upapatti – Gita gives a logical analysis to drive the idea: “Live in this world, work for prosperity, but know that this alone will not bring lasting peace and happiness.”The central theme of Gita combines the four values of dharma, artha, kama and moksha.Based on dharma, we should live in this world. Over time, we realize the true status we should give to worldly life and start thinking of higher transcendental values.3rd verse: “According to scholars and sages, performance of Yajna, dana and tapah should not be given up.”Sannyasa does not mean being physically inactive. Lord Krishna states in the 3rd chapter: “A person who thinks who is active without the idea of yajna, that person gets bound to this world.” Yajna refers to any noble, unselfish activity done for the good of others and as an offering to God – activities done as yajna don't lead to bondage. In the same chapter, Lord Krishna gives a warning: “A person who deliberately gives up his duties and imagines that he is going towards moksha, he is a hypocrite.” All great spiritual men of the word, such as Shankaracharya, were active. The status of householder is supreme in Hindu tradition. It should be understood before we discuss sannyasa. Jainism and Buddhism are oriented towards sannyasa. Hinduism is not a negation of life. Rather it is a balanced approach towards life. Hinduism emphasizes that we should follow the four values: dharma, artha, kama, and moksha.Hinduism gives a very high stature to mother and wife. One of Panini's verses says: “If a husband performs a vedic ritual without his wife, it is considered incomplete.” Another verse says: “A house without a mother and wife is like a forest.”There are two levels of Sannyasa. The primary is Mukhya sannyasa, where one takes to sannyasa because of one's natural evolution. Buddha's renunciation and Yajnavalkya's renunciation in the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad are examples of such sannyasa. The secondary is Gauna sannyasa, where one is ordained into sannyasa by an institution.Sannyasa does not mean physically giving up wealth and resources. One must give up one's selfish sense of ownership. Without the ideal of renunciation, one won't be able to use his resources for the good of others. The richest man can be a man of renunciation – King Janaka was one such example. On the other hand, the poorest man can be a man of tremendous attachment.Besides Bhagavad Gita, there are other gems in the Mahabharata. One example is Vyadha Gita. Vyadha became a jivan mukta through his spiritual practices. Upon attaining the highest realization, he did not give up his profession as a butcher. He continued his secular activities, fully established in his true spiritual identity. His dialogue with another saint constitutes Vyadha Gita.In the 11th chapter, Arjuna experiences the vision of the universal form of the divine. Lord Krishna shows that all the different creatures, animals, suns, moons, stars, galaxies, human beings, celestial beings – they all originate, exist, dissolve and re-emerge within that cosmic divine form. When Arjuna gets this vision, he is freed from all doubts. He understood that he is not just a body-mind complex with one life.
To have a to-do list makes us feel well-equipped. Knowing what to do solves most of the problem so that we can go about doing the tasks. In spirituality, we know what we have to accomplish to be peaceful, equipoised, and selfless. But how to go about is where we find ourselves lost, not quite sure about what is to be done in the moment. Sadhana Panchakam (Sadhana: means/practice, Panchakam: set of 5 verses), composed by Adi Sankaracharya ji, details 40 steps as a means/practice to achieve that end goal of happiness.
The 18th chapter is the longest and is about moksha-sannyasa-yoga. It is also considered as a summary of the previous 17 chapters.Moksha means liberation from the bondage of samsara. In modern times, it can be interpreted as liberation from utilitarian values, ultimately reaching a state where we stop searching for continuous happiness, and where we don't suffer from the ups and downs of life.Sannyasa means giving up the feeling up doer-ship and the renouncement of ego.The chapter starts in the first verse with a question from Arjuna. He asks: “What is the nature of Sannyasa and Tyaga? I want to know the distinction between the two.”In previous four chapters, Lord Krishna taught Arjuna that one should give up activities that are rajasic or tamasic in nature and evolve towards sattvic activities. Lord Krishna also says in the 8th verse of the 3rd chapter: “No one can escape the need for action. It is impossible to be in a state of inaction.” So, one the one hand, Lord Krishna says that action is inescapable. On the other hand, he says that one should perform sattvic activities only without desire for results, and one should give up other activities. Arjuna's question is rooted in his confusion as to what actions should be performed. In Hindu tradition, two underlying principles guide human life. The first principle is that every person has to go through four stages of life: Brahmacharya (student), Grhastha (householder), Vanaprastha (forest hermitage) and Sannyasa (renunciate). Manu Smriti says that Grhastha ashrama supports all the other three stages of human life. There is also another verse which says that when one sees the face of his grandchild, when his face begins to wrinkle and when his hair begins to turn grey, he should retire to a life of hermitage. It may take several life cycles for one to reach the stage of sannyasa. The second principle is the division of society based on people's innate spiritual qualities (gunas) and their actions (karmas). The four groups for conduct of duties are: (1) Brahmana (2) Kshatriya (3) Vaishya (4) Sudra. The groups should not be seen as higher or lower. Rather, it is a system to analyze people based on natural temperaments. Those who take to Sannyasa give up all activities related to worldly desire. They only undertake activities that are for the good of others and that have no selfish motive.According to Yamunacharya, who wrote Gitartha Sangraha, the central teaching of the 18th chapter is: “Whatever we do according to the principles laid down by ancient spiritual teachers is appropriate. Whatever we do that is against these principles is inappropriate.” The essence of this statement is to progress in spiritual life by practicing our everyday activities with a sattvic attitude and giving up our sense of doer-ship – “God is acting, I am not acting.”1st verse: Arjuna asks: “I want to know the meaning of Sannyasa and Tyaga.”2nd verse: Lord Krishna answers: Tyaga means giving up the desire for results. Sannyasa means giving up all activities motivated by selfish desire.”There are two levels of Sannyasa. The primary is Mukhya sannyasa, where one takes to sannyasa because of one's natural evolution. The secondary is Gauna sannyasa, where one is ordained into sannyasa by an institution. There is a statement in one of the Upanishads: “When a person wants to become a monk, at that very moment, he should become a monk.” It may happen at an early age, as was the case with Shankaracharya, or it may happen at old age. The split second that one develops an intense conviction that the world is transient, at that moment he should quit the world. This is the ideal concept of sannyasa and is called Mukhya sannyasa. Buddha's case is an example of Mukhya sannyasa. If a person has studied scriptures and takes sannyasa as part of an institution without full spiritual evolution and without full conviction that the world is impermanent, that sannyasa is secondary and is called Gauna Sannyasa.3rd verse: “According to Samkhya philosophy, all actions should be given up. According to Mimamsa philosophy, performance of Yajna, dana and tapah should not be given up.”According to Shankaracharya, one can ascend to higher stage of sannyasa from any stage in life. He says that a monk should not give up laukika karma – everyday duties and responsibilities. Instead, he should give up all ritualistic activities meant for material prosperity. He should do his duties with a sense of sanctity and sacredness, without any selfish motive. This way his activities turn into a worship towards God, his mind becomes pure, and he becomes fir for the highest spiritual evolution.
