Addiction, from an Ayurvedic lens, is more than just a physical dependence—it's a deep imbalance in the body, mind, and spirit. It often arises from a disconnect from one's true self (Prakriti) and an accumulation of toxins (Ama), whether physical, emotional, or energetic. Many turn to substances in an attempt to soothe inner suffering, regulate emotions, or fill a void left by trauma or unresolved pain. • Vata imbalances can manifest as anxiety, restlessness, and a pervasive sense of emptiness, driving the urge to escape through addiction. • Pitta imbalances fuel intense cravings, impulsivity, and self-destructive tendencies. • Kapha imbalances create stagnation, attachment, and emotional heaviness, making it harder to break free from addictive cycles.Substance use depletes Ojas (vital essence) and Prana (life force energy), but Ayurveda offers a path to rebuild through nourishment, breathwork, meditation, and detoxification practices like Panchakarma and Rasayana (rejuvenation therapy). By restoring balance through daily routines (Dinacharya) and sattvic living, we cultivate clarity, resilience, and self-awareness—key elements in long-term healing.Today, we're honored to sit down with Rob Loud, a yoga teacher whose journey through drug and alcohol addiction led him to a path of deep transformation. Rob describes his teaching style as embodied vinyasa, drawing wisdom from multiple yogic lineages. His passion for yoga is evident—not just in his classes, which are creative, intelligent, and dynamic—but in the way he lives his practice. In this conversation, Rob opens up about his early struggles with addiction, the trauma that shaped him, and how rewiring his nervous system through yoga became the foundation of his recovery. We discuss how yoga not only supports sobriety but also helps navigate both daily stressors and the deeper emotional wounds that addiction often masks. This is a raw, vulnerable conversation—one that invites us all into a deeper intimacy with ourselves, our inner child, and the universal thread that unites us: compassion for the suffering we all experience as human beings.Rob, thank you for your wisdom, your presence, and the light you bring to your students, on and off the mat. We now turn to a very sophisticated discussion about the reasons why we are not immediately, spontaneously aware of the fact that we are non-dual, pure Consciousness in which the world shines non-differently. If I am Shiva, as this tradition tells me, then why don't I know it? How does Shiva hide himself from himself? To explain the mechanism of self-concealment (and also to point the way to instant liberation), we receive this teaching on the 3 malas, the 3 "impurities." In Shaiva Siddhānta, these malas are seen as substantive (i.e real) and therefore must be actually removed through grace. In Non-Dual Tantra, Abhinava reframes "mala" to mean just "ajñāna", ignorance as you can see in the verse below from the Tantrasāra:अज्ञानं किल बन्धहेतुरुदितः शास्त्रे मलं तत् स्मृतं पूर्णज्ञानकलोदये तदखिलं निर्मूलतां गच्छति। ध्वस्ताशेषमलात्मसंविदुदये मोक्षश्च तेनामुना शास्त्रेण प्रकटीकरोमि निखिलं यज्ज्ञेयतत्त्वं भवेत्॥४॥ Ajñānaṁ kila bandhaheturuditaḥ śāstre malaṁ tat smṛtaṁ pūrṇajñānakalodaye tadakhilaṁ nirmūlatāṁ gacchati| Dhvastāśeṣamalātmasaṁvidudaye mokṣaśca tenāmunā śāstreṇa prakaṭīkaromi nikhilaṁ yajjñeyatattvaṁ bhavet (4)Ignorance alone is the cause of bondage and it is that ignorance which is called impurity by the scriptures. With the rising of the moon of perfect knowledge, that ignorance is uprooted completely ! When Pure Consciousness is revealed as a result of the destruction of all impurities: that is indeed what is called Liberation! Therefore by means of this Tantrasāra, I will reveal that highest Reality! This is a very radical reframe and it allows for the view that a person can (a) be instantly liberated and (b) can enjoy liberation even while embodied! Verses from the Paramārthasāra on Mala:तुष इव तण्डुलकणिकामावृणुते प्रकृतिपूर्वकः सर्गः।पृथ्वीपर्यन्तोऽयं चैतन्यं देहभावेन॥२३॥This emission of Prakriti down to Prthvī covers consciousness with (the feeling of) a (limited) body the way the husk covers a grain of rice.परमावरणं मल इह सूक्ष्मं मायादि कञ्चुकं स्थूलम्।बाह्यं विग्रहरूपं कोशत्रयवेष्टितो ह्यात्मा॥२४॥The supreme veil of the (ānava) mala, the subtle kancukas composed of Māyā (kalā, vidyā, rāga, kāla, niyati) (i.e mayīya mala) and the external, physical body (kārma mala) are the three sheaths which cover the Self. This class is part of our Paramārthasāra series which is an introduction to Non-Dual Tantrik metaphysics in theory and practice. * Sorry guys but I could not upload the video episode here due to some issues. I have uploaded the video onto YouTube.Prakriti Lamsal was a bright, ambitious girl with big dreams. She always wanted to achieve something great, and her family fully supported her aspirations. After finishing school, she started looking for good universities in India where she could continue her studies. That's when she came across KIIT University. They had organized a special admission drive in Kathmandu to attract Nepalese students, offeringdetails about admissions, scholarships, and job placements. Excited about the opportunities, Prakriti applied and got admitted into the Computer Science and Engineering program.Moving to Bhubaneswar was a big step for her. It was a new city, a new culture, and a completely new environment. But she wasn't alone—her two cousins, Anurodh and Siddhant, also joined KIIT, which made the transition easier. She quickly adapted, focusing on her studies, making new friends, and enjoying her new life.During this time, she met Advik Srivastava, a senior student from Lucknow studying mechanical engineering. At first, Advik was kind and supportive. He paid attention to her, made her feel special, and always looked after her. Their friendship grew, and soon, they started a relationship. She didn't know that this was just the beginning of something much darker… Episode show notes: www.3amfear.comNarrated by: Nikita FerraoInstagram: @3amfearpod@ncferraoauthorFind me on Youtube @ 3AM Fear PodcastFree thriller eBook: www.ncferrao.comPodcast Music: https://www.purple-planet.comEpisode Music:Headless Horseman by Alexander Nakarada (CreatorChords) | https://creatorchords.comMusic promoted by https://www.free-stock-music.comCreative Commons / Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0)https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/SUBSCRIBE us on YOUTUBE: https://bit.ly/3qumnPHFollow on Facebook: https://bit.ly/33RWRtPFollow on Instagram: https://bit.ly/2ImU2JVEmail me on nikita@3amfear.comSources:https://www.business-standard.com/india-news/1-000-students-from-nepal-returned-to-campus-amid-nhrc-probe-kiit-125030800329_1.htmlhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suicide_of_Prakriti_Lamsalhttps://indianexpress.com/article/india/the-life-cut-short-at-odishas-kiit-introvert-who-shared-ordeal-with-few-hoped-to-make-parents-proud-one-day-9843480/https://news.kiit.ac.in/kiitnews/kiit-announces-scholarship-in-memory-of-prakriti-lamsal/https://www.deccanherald.com/india/odisha/kiit-announces-scholarship-in-memory-of-nepalese-student-prakriti-lamsal-3413649https://www.herzindagi.com/society-culture/kiit-nepali-student-suicide-case-kalinga-institute-of-industrial-technology-launches-scholarship-in-memory-of-prakriti-lamsal-article-1018954https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/dehradun/india-will-not-fail-my-daughter-father-of-dead-kiit-student-seeks-justice-clings-to-hope/articleshow/118584747.cmshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQJsvLeoU30
Shivaratri is made up of two words – Shiva & Ratri. The word Shiva means – “Shete tishthati sarvam jagat Yasmin sah shivah shambhuh vikararahitah” Shiva is the One in whom the entire universe rests, who is changeless and brings auspiciousness to everyone. Shiva is Pure Consciousness or the very life-spark in our heart. Consciousness is Sat-Chit-Ananda or Satyam Shivam and Sundaram. Shiva means auspicious, beautiful. Consciousness alone is truly beautiful because true beauty never fades, is eternal and changeless. Our Body, Mind & Intellect are inert. They appear to be sentient and beautiful only because of reflection of Consciousness. Ratri is formed of the samskrit root – Raa, which means to give. That which provides happiness and bliss is one meaning of Ratri. Parvati is one who is born to Parvatraj Himalaya. She signifies Prakriti or Shakti. She is the source of all matter, energy and diversity. In Samskrit, Shiva is masculine gender word. Ratri is feminine gender, is symbolic of Prakriti or Shakti. Maha-Shivaratri is the union of Shiva & Shakti(Parvati). It is also the night which provides illumination and bliss when Jiva unites with Shiva. May we do tapasya like Mother Parvati, with single-pointedness, subtlety, purity and persistence to discover our oneness with Bhagawan Shiva and truly celebrate Mahashivaratri. #shiva #shivaratri #shivarathri #hindu #hindufestival#parvati[marriage, shiva, festival, celebration, fasting, penance, union, wedding]
Kapila: Founder of Samkhya Philosophy Kapila (7th–6th century BCE) is regarded as the founder of the Samkhya school, one of the six orthodox systems of Hindu philosophy. Known for his rational and dualistic approach, he emphasized the distinction between Purusha (consciousness) and Prakriti (matter). His teachings are captured in the Samkhya Sutras and the Bhagavata Purana, where he elaborated on metaphysics, self-realization, and liberation from suffering. Kapila's influence extends to Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism, making him a pivotal figure in ancient Indian philosophy.

Step into the timeless wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita and explore verses 13.20 to 13.26, where Lord Krishna unravels the cosmic dynamics of Prakriti (material nature) and Purusha (spirit soul). Discover how these two eternal principles shape existence and how the three gunas (modes of nature) influence our journey through karyam (effect) and karanam (cause). This episode delves into the profound teachings of kaivalyam (liberation) and the role of the soul in transcending material attachments. Through insights from the Upanishads and the story of Kunti, you'll uncover how devotion, meditation, and karma yoga harmonize to unlock the soul's potential. The reference to Kaivalya Pataye (Lord of Liberation) in Kunti's prayer brings alive the essence of surrender and grace. Explore the philosophical nuances of Kevala (oneness), where the soul is seen as distinct yet unified with the divine. The life of Kunti and her upbringing by Kuntibhoja provide timeless inspiration on resilience, devotion, and spiritual surrender, drawing parallels to the eternal quest for liberation. Whether you're seeking clarity on dhyana (meditation), understanding the interplay of karyam and karanam, or yearning to connect with the ultimate truth, this episode bridges ancient teachings with practical spirituality. Learn how sincere intent, even without deep expertise, can lead to divine grace and inner transformation. The rishi Bharadvaja approached Valmiki and asked him to narrate the story of Rama, reminding him that the Ramayana includes hundreds of thousands of shlokas (verses), most of which have been unavailable. Bharadvaja asked to hear one of those secret stories, to which Valmiki agreed, noting that this version would emphasize the deeds of Sita, the incarnation of Prakriti (nature). Valmiki emphasized, however, that Rama was the manifestation of the supreme, and that ultimately there is no distinction between Rama and Sita—they are one.

Hi everyone! Happy Friday! ** Correction! Akshaya Tritiya in on May 10th** In this segment we discuss the upcoming new moon in Aries, in the nakshatra of Bharani. Bharani is a powerful nakshatra that is symbolized by the yoni and associated to the deity Yama. We discuss the dualities of life, death, love, and grief - and how these aspects of life are, inevitably, woven together. Bharani is a highly creative nakshatra - so we also discuss the potency for manifestation. What is Samkhya philosophy and how is it different from Yoga philosophy? Receive a total breakdown on Samkhya (one of the six schools on Indian philosophy) from Brett in today's value-packed episode. Walk about with an understanding of:
Who knows? Who could ever know? As Shankara put it in his Kalikāshtakam: "svarūpam tvadīyam na vindanti devah: not even the Gods know your true nature!"With this in mind, humbled and awed, we approach this profound mystery of the Divine Mother of the Universe who is at once inscrutable and yet easy of access to us. She is at once Kali, the Mistress of Maya who confounds the Universe as well as our very own Mother, appearing in the form of a very nondescript, traditional Brahmin housewife. In discussing this most exalted and wonderful of topics, we first take up some philosophy to make the case that it is the Feminine Principle, Prakriti or Maha Mayi, that is responsible for the appearance of the Avatara, the Incarnation of God. And further, not only is the Incarnation therefore wholly Female in principle whether it is Jesus or Krishna or Rama etc. but that, additionally, the Avatara often comes with a consort who is really his power in the world and the true facilitator of his mission. For example, for Rama it was Seeta, for Krishna, Radha and for Jesus, Mary of Magdala. For Sri Ramakrishna it is Ma Sarada Devi, the Holy Mother. Then, after some philosophical contextualizing, we go into. a brief and short biographical sketch of the Holy Mother's early years. Don't tune in if you don't love life and humanity because this won't be for you. Don't tune in if you still believe in evil or the devil. All IHP content resonates with people who want to achieve enlightenment the human way. IHP podcast host Maria Florio shares voices, stories and perspectives from her 5D mystic enlightenment functional adult life to give examples of what it's like to know emotional self-regulation skills, experience secure attachment, have functional adult conversations and experience 5D relationships (5D and beyond vibing people). You hear about how easy it is to be yourself, to pursue inner growth, to unconditionally love, to have compassion, and live your best life with outer and inner-well being in the forefront. Also explored, how to communicate and handle emotionally insecure adaptive children grown ups, the 3D or 4D vibing individuals, those who stay within insecure emotional human suffering vibration experience and mindset, or who hold drama as the go-to in relationships, or use projection due to unresolved and unaddressed trauma, attachment wounds, and inner child wounds that come up in their behavior. Since trauma is relational and intimacy necessary to heal it, through Maria's stories and perspectives people get an idea of securely attached options on how to handle projection to the best of your ability and create a safe environment for another person to heal or for you to set a healthy boundary if the person bringing the projection (3D/4D drama vibe) is not seeking to move beyond their safety behavior/unresolved trauma emotional response. All of what we do in our day-to-day relationships, conversations, and interactions can bring the potential for healing and expansion of consciousness. The focused diligent practice of Yoga is call Abhyasa and within that, we are practicing Vairagya, which is letting go of sensory perception and observation. It becomes a detachment to what is observed or seen arising as a result of practice. The goal of practicing Yoga is to reach a state of Nirodha. Nirodha is to stop, restrain, still, the removal and the cessation of.Kaya Nirodha – Physical StillnessPrana Nirodha – Energetic StillnessCitta Vritti Nirodha – Mental StillnessWhat happens when stillness is achieved? The self rests within itself. The “I-ness” of you recognised itself. Samadhi is a separation from Prakriti and wakens to it as Purusha. What happens when stillness isn't achieved? Well, the witness miss-identifies with the thoughts, emotions, images, sensations and other mind-stuff. Prakriti. Patanjali has two solutions:Kriya Yoga – Tapas, SvaDhyaya, Isvara Pranidhana or Ashtanga Yoga – Yamas, Niyamas, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana, SamadhiKriya Yoga is said to be for those who are not seeking the highest Samadhi. Ashtanga Yoga is said to be for those seeking full liberation from the suffering of existence. Either way, the purpose is to practice and minimise the Kleshas – Mental Emotional Afflictions which are said to be at the root of why we suffer and why we are subjected to ongoing Karmic action or reaction.Avidya – IgnoranceAsmita – EgotismRaga – RagaDvesa – Aversion, resistance Abinivesha – Fear of loss, change and deathOur job is to develop our Viveka, discernment to recognise our own ignorance of the wandering mind (Avidya). How we misidentify with being more than, less than, or stuck in a limited unhealthy ego self (Asmita). To wake up to craving, yearning and chasing something more pleasurable (Raga). Or to what we are avoiding or resisting (Dvesa). And ultimately what we are truly afraid of (Abinivesha). This week we will focus on Nirodha to observe the unnecessary movements we take with the physical, energetic and mental bodies. Looking into why we fidget, move, tremble, itch, and notice our wandering mind. To commemorate Earth Day 2023, we spend the hour on Nepal -- Nepal is considered the 4th most vulnerable country in terms of climate-related disasters. Today we speak to two graduate students from Nepal - Prakriti Shresthra & Chhimi Sherpa, who are both working toward their Master's degree in the International Dev., Community, and Environment department at Clark University in Worcester, MA. Prakriti and Chimmi speak with us about climate, health, gender, and youth activism in Nepal and share their hopes for our futures. *Photo: Ilam, Nepal
Namaste dear one. Starting with the idea, “Everything is Energy,” we explore what this means in our lives. I.e. BE THE ENERGY YOU WANT TO FEEL. Connecting it to the idea that everything is Consciousness, I share an excerpt of one of my favorite books, “Pointers from Nisargadatta Maharaj,” by Ramesh S. Balsekar. Further research on that reading led me to read more on the 3 Gunas—which are the primary qualities of energy (more here: https://www.yogabasics.com/learn/the-3-gunas-of-nature/ ). Interestingly, I skipped over the word “Prakriti” in Sri Maharaj's book, but it appears again in the article. I'll share that full sentence here: “I-am-ness, the sense of presence has been given various laudatory names like Māyā, Prakriti, Īshwara, etc., but nevertheless it is an illusion, pure ignorance.” Sri Maharaj says that there are no truer words than “I don't know.” When we realize our true state to be that state in which we don't even know our own existence, we are free. Namaste. Love to all, Selena Sage // selenasage.com // books: zentaobooks.com // Fb+IG: Selena Sage — Author
Mind–body dualism is a philosophical view which holds that mental phenomena are, at least in certain respects, not physical phenomena, meaning that the mind and the body are distinct and separable from one another. Of course… If you practice yoga, you know this is definitely not the case. We feel, think, and often remember through our body. Our body is a part of Prakriti “primary subatomic particles.” Our minds are also a part Prakriti. And what is left after prakriti is gone is simply awareness: Purusha, what we might call “Presence.” We are awareness you and I. We are linked. This is Paramatman. We are joined this way. False dichotomies are rife in our society. Red Blue. Body Mind. Them Us. High Brow Low Brow. Our guest today, our dear friend, Erik Jacobsen is a student. Self taught. In that he's a life long learner with a passion for understanding being and demonstrating right action. Erik is a tattoo artist. He's punk. He's self made. He went to art school (but that is not exactly school) and has buried his art in the ground. And he's buried it inside this impermanent flesh — another kind of ground. But Erik is also this: He's an artist whose material, whose ground, is the the body. And nothing more so activates his art then his audience… The flesh. Flesh which itself represents the consciousness waking up, aware of itself housed inside a body. In painting we often refer to the ground as two things: First, it's the treatment of the canvas or wood with a preservative that keeps the oil from eating away at it. Second, it's the space in which the subject sits—an apple for example. The mistake a young artist often makes is to say that two are separate. That is to say, the subject becomes an object with no context. And to suggest that the context doesn't affect the subject is a lie. That the light is not a part of the being of the apple is an untruth. The apple is light. Absolutely everything is made of stardust. And this is where we're meeting Jacob today... somewhere amongst the stars. JUNE 1 - 12, 2023 All-Inclusive Turkey Retreat!
