Do policymakers make assumptions about how the public feels without genuinely understanding the public? How can communication between policymakers and the people be improved for everyone? These questions are at the center of Steven Kull's work as Founder and President of Voice of the People, a nonpartisan organization dedicated to amplifying the voice of “the people” in government. Press play to explore: How the public tends to respond to pro and con arguments on a topic and how common ground between Republicans and Democrats is often formed The difference between the primacy effect and the recency effect Abortion, immigration, environmental health, energy, and beyond … topics at the center of discussion among both policymakers and the public How to communicate with your representatives in Congress Kull is a political psychologist and Director of the Program for Public Consultation in the School of Public Policy at the University of Maryland. Posting a recycled job ad on Indeed, conducting four rounds of interviews and utilizing a copy-and-paste approach with job qualification requirements are not cutting it in today's market. During the People Episode of the Grawe Pod, we will be sharing a collection of insights that address attracting, hiring and onboarding non-driving talent into your transportation organization. Doug Grawe is your host for the podcast and he will be joined on this episode by Grawe Group Executive Business Partners Gary Randall and Steve Youngquist. They will explore how transportation companies are attracting, hiring and retaining strong employees through thoughtful approaches. Attention to detail is vital in today's market. Job descriptions are carefully crafted for each new opening. Qualification requirements are narrowed to attract fit as much as technical expertise. Interviewing is purposeful to draw out the traits that truly matter in your culture. And onboarding is designed to build a strong foundation, not fight fires.

Have you ever been that kid who tugged at the corner of your eyes, pretending to be Asian, or maybe even mocked people of Asian descent? In today's episode, Sara shares the story of when a little neighborhood boy did that to her. Sure, there might be some sweeping generalizations you can make about Asian people - a lot tend to have dark hair, more almond-shaped eyes - but the truth is, in America, people who fall into the broad bucket of “Asian” have among the largest differences of all the large groupings like White, or Black, or Hispanic. This week we review - Bellamy's People (Episode 7)Award winning journalist Gary Bellamy (Rhys Thomas), host of Radio 4's 'groundbreaking' phone-in programme Down the Line, transfers to TV to present the tortuously-titled factual entertainment show "Bellamy's People (of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland)".Bellamy abandons the comfort of his studio and jumps in his Triumph Stag "personality vehicle" to travel the length and breadth of the land meeting the people of Britain and trying to find out what makes them tick. His aim is to elicit their views on topics ranging from crime and religion to class and culture. Much like his radio phone-in show, each week will focus on a particular topic of discussion. The show promises to deliver quintessentially British characters, including a 23-stone man who rarely leaves his bed; a pair of aristocratic sisters with an unhealthy love of totalitarian regimes; a barely reformed celebrity criminal; Christians, Muslims; and a host of other characters that make up modern Britain.Written by Paul Whitehouse, Charlie Higson, Rhys Thomas, Simon Day, Felix Dexter, Lucy Montgomery, Rosie Cavaliero, Amelia Bullmore and Adil RayProduced by Ali Bryer Carron, Paul Whitehouse and Charlie HigsonDirected by Paul Whitehouse and Charlie HigsonA BBC / Down The Line Production.Bellamy's People is available here: https://amzn.to/3isdapz The Comedy Slab Podcast is available on Apple Podcasts, Spreaker, Stitcher, iHeart Radio, Spotify and Youtube.
