(Episode 340) Healing happens in the discomfort, in the conversations where you laugh so hard you cry, and then cry so hard you laugh. In this episode I sit down with Hector Marcel, the president of Tree Jewels (only New York's leading modern enlightenment studio). He also brought me to tears twice, made me laugh so hard I couldn't breathe, and rewrote everything I thought I knew about joy. This conversation is one I didn't want to leave, from the concept of emptiness, to the philosophy of no-self, and why the most spiritual thing you can do is be a human being. Plus, you know he's cool because he made cult merch and people lost their minds over it. Twice. When we restrict sweets and label them as "bad," we're not solving anything — we're just building pressure. And eventually that pressure valve blows. If you've ever white-knuckled it all week and then completely lost it with a bag of something on Friday night, you know exactly what I mean. In this episode I'm breaking down why restriction backfires, why "just eat intuitively" isn't the answer either, and what it actually looks like to build real self control around sweets — with guardrails, not willpower. -Rachel Next Steps

Are you overthinking your golf game? In this episode of The Mind Caddie, we're joined by Dr Chris Niebauer, author of No Self, No Problem, to explore how your thinking mind may be holding back your performance. We dive into the science and psychology behind overthinking, focus, and mental performance—on and off the course. Dr Niebauer explains why the brain is wired for survival, not success, and how this outdated "prediction machine" can interfere with your ability to play freely and instinctively. If you've ever felt stuck in your head instead of immersed in your game, this conversation will change how you see your mind—and your golf. In this episode, we cover: Why overthinking ruins performance in golf The brain's survival bias and constant need to predict "If you're thinking, you're not playing" How to reconnect with your body and sensory awareness Why simplicity beats complexity in sport The limits of attention—and how to use it effectively The "left brain interpreter" and the illusion of control How to stop taking your thoughts so seriously Finding freedom without trying to control your mind This is a powerful, perspective-shifting conversation that will help you play with more freedom, clarity, and trust. In this conversation, Adam sits down with Seye Kuyinu — author of "This Glorious Dance" and agile coach — to explore what it's like to live from a space of no-self. In this conversation, Seye shares the moment he realized "there's nobody inside here," why spiritual seeking is ultimately a distraction, and what it looks like to navigate work, relationships, and creativity from a place of groundlessness. We also discuss: -Free will -The dreamer and the dream -The nature of the mind -Creativity as grace -The "glorious dance" of polarities that make up all experience.
Send me your thoughts in a Text MessageIn this episode of Awakening Now, I speak with Greg Goode about self-inquiry and what is actually being seen through.Greg Goode is a nonduality teacher and author with a background in philosophy. He is known for his clear and structured approach to inquiry, guiding people to look directly at experience and question what seems obvious — especially the sense of being a separate self.In our conversation, we explore a simple but often overlooked shift: seeing is not about finding truth or adopting a new perspective, but about recognizing and deconstructing what is false. We look at how the sense of self appears, how it is reinforced through thought, and why it can feel so real even when examined closely. This is a grounded and practical conversation — an invitation to look, rather than to believe.More from Greg:https://radiuspress.org/greggoode/His latest book, Enlightening the Physical World, explores the nature of matter through both philosophy and direct experience:https://radiuspress.org/enlightening-the-physical-world-investigating-matter-with-berkeley-and-the-direct-path/Direct Path playlist with Terry Moore:https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLf0MTUdIZxcwgcyMSNTyeDHvwmaOg2w8KMusic by Valdi Sabev. In loving memory and gratitude for the music he shared.Support the showWebsiteshttp://ilonaciunaite.comhttp://liberationunleashed.com

And still, something may feel unsettled. Here we look in a different way.Not at ideas, but at direct experience.I share how this process is structured, what you will be exploring, and why a simple, precise looking can open something that thinking cannot reach. This is not about becoming something new.It is about seeing clearly what is already here.If you feel a quiet readiness, you will recognise it.And if there are questions, doubts, or hesitation, you are welcome to meet them here as well.Music by Valdi Sabev. Send me your thoughts in a Text MessageToday I share a very simple way of looking at experience.Using a drawing of two lines, we explore what is here in direct experience. One line represents life as it is happening — movement, thoughts, sensations, everything that appears. The other points to simple being — the sense of presence, the knowing that you are here.Between these, there is what we often take ourselves to be — a kind of “bundle” made of reactions, thoughts, and patterns. This bundle seems to be the one living life, making decisions, trying to control what happens. In the talk, we look at this directly. In this episode, we continue that exploration in a live Q&A.A participant describes their experience using the image of a lotus and scribbled lines — something clear and present, and the movement of thoughts appearing over it.From there, we look more closely. Is there something underneath that needs to come forward? Or is that another way of thinking about what is here? Again and again, the attention returns to what is actually happening.Thoughts appear. Reactions happen. A sense of “me” seems to form in the middle as a relationship. But when this is looked at directly, what is really there? There is a simple shift in seeing — from being caught in the movement, to noticing what is always here.Music by Valdi Sabev. In loving memory and gratitude for the music he shared.Coming this April, an 8-week Experience of Guided Self-Inquiry to see through the illusion of a separate self. This is a 9-minute talk about how we hallucinate our separation from the world, which causes an immense amount of fear and sorrow, and then a 4-minute lyrical poem that reminds us that every experience is a deeply intimate and familiar experience of ourselves. Through inquiry, nature, and lyrical transmission, we dissolve the borders of skin to find a reality that is intimate and safe. Stop the "white-knuckled reach" for control; you are the relationship in which life occurs. Thank you for your listens and shares. I'm excited to hear about your experience with this more rhythmic poem. Send me your thoughts in a Text MessageIn this episode of Awakening Now, I speak with Ananta Kranti about awakening and what the word actually points to.When Ananta first began sharing this message, awakening was described very simply — waking up from the dream of being a separate self. Today, the word is used in many different ways, and this can create confusion about what is being pointed to.We explore how the message has evolved over time, and what can be lost when the recognition of what we are becomes mixed with ideas, identities, or concepts.Ananta shares about the shift that happened while she was in prison, and how a moment of complete exhaustion and letting go revealed something that could not be taken away.We also speak about current trends in the spiritual space — the movement between recognizing awareness and working with the human experience. There is a natural place for both, and also a risk of losing clarity when the foundation is not seen directly. We look at projections onto teachers, the expectation of perfection, and the possibility of recognizing freedom exactly as life is now. This is a grounded conversation about awakening, identity, and the living recognition of what does not come and go.Music by Valdi Sabev. Send us Fan MailMost people spend their lives chasing after elusive happiness, validation, or enlightenment — but what if it's already here, waiting to be noticed? Angelo DeLulo, a practicing anesthesiologist turned compassionate spiritual teacher, shares how his spontaneous awakening at age 24 revealed the profound truth that liberation isn't something to achieve — it's already within us. His grounded, real-world approach dissolves the myth that awakening requires leaving life behind, emphasizing instead that clarity and freedom are accessible in the midst of everyday moments. In this powerful conversation, Angelo breaks down A Radical Path to Non-Dual Awakening, the No Self State, the common misconceptions about spiritual seeking, the role of shadow work, and how true awakening often arises from deep internal suffering rather than relentless pursuit. You'll discover: how non-dual realization occurs in an instant, why seeking can push awakening further away, and the subtle art of surrender that accelerates spiritual growth. Angelo also explores the importance of trust in your own instinct, the limitations of traditional practices, and how conscious awareness can unfold naturally when conditions align. His insights reveal the paradox that the more you try to control or understand awakening, the more it remains just beyond reach — but surrendering into what already is can unlock the deepest freedom. Why does so much spiritual information cause confusion and delay? Angelo highlights the subtle pitfalls of identity fixation, the overlooked necessity of shadow work, and how language often fails to fully capture the sheer immediacy of realization. He shares the secret that transformation is often a gentle dance — knowing when to push, when to let go, and when to simply trust the innate intelligence within. Whether you're new to awakening or on the path for years, this episode offers a refreshing perspective: liberation is not a distant goal but a silent, ever-present witness waiting for your recognition. If you're craving clarity, genuine guidance, and a reminder that ultimate freedom is accessible right now, this conversation with Angelo DeLulo is essential listening. It's not about becoming someone special; it's about waking up to what's already here — simple, profound, and extraordinarily liberating. Why this works:This episode description begins with a provocative hook to immediately spark curiosity about the fundamental truth of awakening being already present. It then weaves concrete insights into the nature of non-dual realization, shadow work, and the pitfalls of seeking, appealing to both newcomers and seasoned practitioners. The emotional angles of liberation and authenticity evoke inspiration and hope, encouraging listeners to explore their own innate freedom. Clear outcome-driven language and a compelling narrative make it irresistible to hit play.

I woke this morning and felt that familiar pull down the 'dark, dank well' of thought. It's a place I know, a place that has no surprises. But then I looked outside and realized I had never been this exact age before, nor had the magpie ever sat on that exact branch - the raindrops had never slid down the window panes in those exact patterns - and everything was waiting to surprise and delight me. Uncertainty is something we are capable of - our body collides with the Reality (which really means it recognises its own nature in all things) in a deeply comforting way, grounding and whole. I hope this brings some peace to your morning today, and thank you for being here. Send me your thoughts in a Text MessageIn this episode of Awakening Now, Ilona Ciunaite speaks with psychotherapist and author Robert Saltzman about awakening, the illusion of a separate self, and what actually changes when the sense of a personal controller is questioned.Rather than presenting awakening as a dramatic transformation, Robert describes it as a shift in perspective. Life continues as it always has — with relationships, pain, aging, and uncertainty — yet the belief that someone inside is running everything begins to loosen. The conversation explores spiritual seeking, the difference between intellectual understanding and direct seeing, and the simple act of looking at what is actually happening in experience. At one point the dialogue takes an unexpected turn. Robert describes an experiment in which he began asking an AI system the same kinds of questions he would ask a therapy client. The coherence of its responses led him to wonder: when language makes sense, do we automatically assume there must be a conscious self behind it?A thoughtful and wide-ranging conversation about identity, language, uncertainty, and the freedom of not needing final answers. Most people believe confidence is something you either have or you don't. The truth is confidence is something that is built, trained, and strengthened over time. In this episode Luke Mind Power shares the four most common reasons people lose their confidence and what you can start doing today to rebuild it. Luke explains how many people carry unconscious beliefs formed from childhood experiences, rejection, criticism, or past failures. Over time these beliefs become the inner voice that tells us we are not good enough, smart enough, or capable enough. When this voice is not challenged it slowly erodes self belief. Another major reason people struggle with confidence is the constant fear of judgement. Many people spend years trying to please others, trying to avoid criticism, and trying to be accepted. The result is that they stop expressing their authentic selves and begin living in a way that feels safe rather than true. Luke also discusses the impact of negative self talk and how the mind can become programmed to expect failure or rejection. When someone repeats limiting beliefs long enough, the brain begins to treat those beliefs as reality. Finally Luke talks about the importance of reconnecting with your true identity, your values, your faith, and your purpose. Real confidence does not come from validation, achievements, or external approval. It comes from knowing who you are and standing in that truth regardless of circumstances. In this episode you will learn: • The four main reasons people lose their confidence• How childhood experiences can shape your self image• Why fear of judgement keeps people stuck and playing small• How negative self talk programs your subconscious mind• Practical ways to begin rebuilding real confidence If this episode resonates with you and you feel ready to change your life, Luke and his team work with individuals who are ready to break through self doubt, heal emotional patterns, and step into their true potential. Season 5 is here and… we might already be losing control. We are back with a brand new season, upgraded podcast setup, same old shenanigans. In this episode we look ahead to some of the biggest events coming in 2026, including major movies, sporting events, and the huge J Cole concert coming to Johannesburg. But as usual… the conversation goes completely off the rails.Things get especially interesting when Rizaan channels his inner Bridgerton and somehow turns Google Maps into one of the funniest moments of the episode. We're also introducing two brand new segments this season:
How do we fall in love with the unextraordinary?By remembering that it is already exquisite in its plainest form. We have been created at the perfect distance—not so close that there is nothing, not so far that there is nothing—to experience life as something quietly remarkable. This remembering alone can turn every meeting with the ordinary into a spiritual one.May we be willing to be touched by the smallest points of contact today—birdsong, an unexpected smile, a hand in ours—and let them guide us back home to who we really are: the loving, formless capacity through which all forms are known.Have a wonderful week,SezSupport the show✨ Every Thursday, I send out unpublished poems & audio essays to help us embody our felt sense of wholeness through nonduality, nature, and self-inquiry on my Substack. What if envy is not really about the other person at all?In this honest and reflective episode, Michelle exploreswhat it means when others admit they feel jealous or intimidated by her success. From launching books and leading programs to speaking internationally and building GrowBy1, she shares the surprising emotions that arise when comparison enters the room. But this conversation goes much deeper.Drawing from personal experiences, including years ofnavigating jealousy and punishment in her former marriage, Michelle unpacks the cost of shrinking yourself to make others comfortable. She challenges the idea that success should be hidden and reframes visibility as an invitation for others to grow and win.At the heart of this episode is one powerful truth: when youtruly love yourself, envy loses its grip.Michelle walks through practical indicators of self love... Envy can be a signal, not a sentence. Sometimes it simplyreveals a desire within you that needs attention. The key is not to let comparison pull you off your path, but to use it as information that brings you back to who you are. This episode invites you to remember your own mountain, your own calling, and your own awesomeness.Michelle@GrowBy1.comGrowBy1.com/CoachingAcademyGrowBy1.com/CEU

Send me your thoughts in a Text MessageIn this episode of Awakening Now, I sit down with Angelo DiLullo to explore the myths that quietly shape how people think awakening is supposed to unfold. We look at the belief that awakening should resemble someone else's story, feel pleasant, bring special abilities, or resolve the human experience once and for all. Angelo points directly to how these expectations form without being questioned — and how they create unnecessary confusion when real experience doesn't match spiritual narratives. We also explore the myth that something has gone wrong when awakening feels difficult, and the assumption that safety or stability must be established before truth can be seen. Rather than offering new ideals, the conversation stays close to what is actually happening in the body, emotions, and daily life. This episode is for those who feel sincere in their inquiry yet unsure why things don't look the way they expected. It's an invitation to notice what may already be quietly obvious when comparison, fantasy, and self-judgment fall away.About the Guest:Angelo DiLullo, MD, is an anesthesiologist, spiritual teacher, and author. Following a profound awakening at age 24, he recognized how thoughts shape perception and that suffering is not inherent to life. This a Q&A episode based on questions I've received from listeners: Does Zen have anything to say about human relationships? Can we learn anything from the cultural popularization of the term "Zen"? If we have no independent self-nature, what about our sense of enduring self? Do Buddhists practice confession like Catholics?
Send me your thoughts in a Text MessageMany people on the spiritual awakening path reach a moment where understanding is no longer enough. You may clearly understand non-duality, awakening, or the self illusion intellectually. You may know the language, have had glimpses, and seen moments of clarity. And yet something hasn't shifted. There is still confusion. There is still a sense of “me.” And that can feel deeply discouraging. In this episode of Awakening Now, I share an unedited recording from a live Zoom meeting where I respond to an email that says: “I understand this intellectually, but I don't feel it.” What I hear is not failure, but honesty — a turning point where the old strategy of seeking through understanding begins to collapse.I speak about why seeing through the self illusion is not an emotional experience, and why clarity is not a feeling. Confusion, doubt, frustration, and a sense of “me” can still arise after awakening, and they do not mean you didn't see. This conversation explores the difference between direct pointing — seeing through the illusion of a separate self — and meeting what continues to arise after that recognition. Old emotional patterns, sensations, and conditioning don't mean you've gone backwards. Often, they are the next layer asking to be met.If you feel stuck after awakening, exhausted from seeking, or confused about why insight hasn't brought lasting peace, this episode offers clarity, reassurance, and a grounded understanding of what is actually happening.Support the showWebsiteshttp://ilonaciunaite.comhttp://liberationunleashed.com
Using the metaphor of time travel, Michael explores the inner journey described by the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th limbs of yoga. Rather than traveling through years or lifetimes, this “time travel” moves inward, through memory, identity, awareness, and ultimately into stillness. In this talk, Michael offers a clear and grounded exploration of the self, the ego, and the subtle emptiness of the things we cling to for stability. He examines how personality is something we continuously construct, often in an attempt to create a sense of permanence in a world that is constantly changing. At the core of this construction is a quiet resistance to impermanence: a desire to fix what is, by nature, fluid. Through the lens of yogic philosophy, the conversation invites listeners to notice how attention, concentration, meditation, and absorption gradually loosen our grip on rigid identities. What emerges is not loss, but freedom, a deeper understanding that we don't need to solidify ourselves in order to exist meaningfully. Instead, by learning to rest in change, we begin to experience time, self, and awareness in a completely different way. Recorded in Stockholm on September 9, 2016. Send me your thoughts in a Text MessageHave you been craving awakening? Waiting for the moment when everything finally softens, the mind gets quiet, the heart opens, and you can finally stop searching? In this awakening now episode, I sit with Won Bo, a Lithuanian nun living in Korea. From the very first minute, something in her presence invites you to slow down, soften, and see what's already here. Nothing dramatic. Nothing mystical. Just truth, lived by someone who has dedicated her whole life to clarity. We explore the ordinary moments seekers overlook, the craving that hides beneath “spiritual progress,” the tenderness of glimpses that fade, and the simplicity of Zen's most direct practice: What am I?Not to find an answer… but to fall back into don't-know, the space where awakening unfolds by itself. If you've ever felt “not enough,” or wondered why awakening feels distant even after years of seeking, this conversation may feel like a quiet homecoming.WHAT WE EXPLORE TOGETHER• Why she chose the monastic path and what actually surprised her• A clear, gentle definition of awakening that removes pressure• How the Three Poisons silently guide your daily reactions• The subtle trap of craving awakening (and how to recognize it)• Why glimpses fade and why that isn't a failure• A practice you can use at any moment of your day• How “don't-know” becomes a lived, spacious way of beingIf you want to explore this more deeply, I created a short guide called Introduction to Deep Looking. Imagine meeting your last breath, and feeling utterly, truly safe...This meditation explores the difference between conceptual safety and the felt safety that arises when we stop separating ourselves from our emotions. It guides you out of the mind's protective shelters and back into the raw, honest intelligence of the body, where fear, grief, and uncertainty can finally be met without resistance. Through embodied inquiry, you learn to dissolve the imagined distance between “you” and your sensations, revealing that even anxiety and instability can become safe when fully felt. This practice helps you rediscover undivided presence as the only real refuge. It's an invitation to return to the wild, grounded aliveness that has always held you — the safety of simply being here. Thank you for being here with me and for exploring the deeper truths - without negating the body. I have lots of poetry to share with you in the new year, and I very much look forward to staying in touch.Support the show✨ Every Thursday, I send out unpublished poems & audio essays to help us embody our felt sense of wholeness through nonduality, nature, and self-inquiry on my Substack. Many spiritual teachings show us that form is empty—but few guide us to see that emptiness itself is form, alive and breathing through the body. This meditation invites a full return: after glimpsing the formless, we come home to the body, where the subtle intelligence of life unfolds in sensation, breath, and movement. Here, emptiness and form are inseparable, and self-realization becomes an intimate, felt experience rather than a distant concept. Using imagery of evolution, nature, and cosmic lineage, the meditation dissolves the sense of separation between observer and observed, revealing that your breath, sensations, and aliveness are inseparable from the intelligence of the whole. You are invited to rest fully in the present, release the mind's narrative and the illusion of control, and allow your body to reveal the effortless unfolding of existence. Thank you for supporting this work and for giving it a place in your heart, Love SezSupport the show✨ Every Thursday, I send out unpublished poems & audio essays to help us embody our felt sense of wholeness on my patron-only Substack. Send me your thoughts in a Text MessageMost seekers begin this journey with expectations — about how awakening should look, how it should feel, or what will be lost or gained. But these assumptions quietly block the very seeing they long for.In this short talk, Ilona Ciunaite points to the five biggest mistakes seekers make on the path of awakening: projecting outcomes, fearing loss, doubting simplicity, chasing experiences, and dismissing what's already here. This is a direct invitation to pause the search and look for yourself. What is actually happening right now? What is imagined?Awakening isn't a distant event or a dramatic experience — it's the simple recognition of what's always been here.Watch until the end to see how subtle expectations keep the mind spinning and how the simplest look can shift everything.Subscribe for more conversations, guided sessions, and insights on the journey of awakening.Join Ilona's monthly live events and find more resources at https://ilonaciunaite.comThis video will help you understand how:– Fear that “I'll lose family/job/body” is a protection pattern that blocks looking.– Mind objects to simplicity and prefers to analyze and build stories.– Awakening is everyday living, not a final state or fireworks.– Seeing “nothing” is a real seeing; don't reject it because it is not an experience. When you stop chasing what isn't here and turn attention to what is, awakening naturally reveals itself.Subscribe to my Newsletter for updates and to receive info about free monthly meetings on Zoom https://ilonaciunaite.com/subscribe/Music by Valdi Sabev, Visit his channel for more calm and relaxed music https://www.youtube.com/c/ValdiSabev/featuredWebsiteshttp://ilonaciunaite.comhttp://liberationunleashed.com

This piece is a gentle ode to idleness—a meditation on the quiet, miraculous fullness found in simply sitting, watching, and being. With the sea as a companion and the sky as a witness, we explore how presence asks nothing of us but attention. In a world that constantly demands productivity, this poem offers permission to pause, to be thoroughly unuseful, and yet feel more whole than ever. Through images of waves, wind, and distant sails, we are reminded that being present with whatever arises can be one of the deepest spiritual 'achievements'. If this reflection speaks to you, I invite you to journey further in my new course W(hole)ness (on Insight Timer & my website)—a slow, spacious return to the essence of who you are. Thank you for allowing this work to sit with you for a moment, and I look forward to adding more poetry here soon. Send us a textYour words don't just reflect your reality—they create it. A lesson I learned early in my career taught me that saying "I'll try" invites uncertainty, while commitment begins with decisive language. The words we use—especially those that signal doubt or limitation—shape how we think, act, and pursue goals. As we hit the year's midpoint, focus on upgrading your language and watch how it improves your state of being plus welcomes in new opportunities. 3 Key Takeaways:Eliminate uncertain language like “try,” “hope,” and “maybe”—they weaken commitment and action.Watch for self-limiting phrases and negative preambles that reinforce doubt or fear.Rewire your mindset by intentionally choosing words that reflect confidence, clarity, and possibility.Thank you for tuning in! This episode is on the 21st saying in the Gospel of Thomas. I will read it for you: Mary said to Jesus, "Whom are your disciples like?" He said, "They are like children who have settled in a field which is not theirs. When the owners of the field come, they will say, 'Let us have back our field.' They (will) undress in their presence in order to let them have back their field and to give it back to them. Therefore I say, if the owner of a house knows that the thief is coming, he will begin his vigil before he comes and will not let him dig through into his house of his domain to carry away his goods. You, then, be on your guard against the world. Arm yourselves with great strength lest the robbers find a way to come to you, for the difficulty which you expect will (surely) materialize. Let there be among you a man of understanding. When the grain ripened, he came quickly with his sickle in his hand and reaped it. Whoever has ears to hear, let him hear."
