Living For Christ (01.01.26) by Paul Osei Yaw Afoakwa
Sermon Summary: “Forgetting What Is Behind You, Living for Christ” A Call to a Year of Yielding The sermon opens with a prophetic emphasis for the new year: a year of yielding. God's will is not accomplished in believers' lives through effort alone, but through surrender. Just as Jesus yielded His will to the Father in Gethsemane, believers are called to yield their strength, plans, and control to God so His purposes can be fulfilled. Sanctification Comes Through Yielding Believers are already perfected in Christ, yet are continually being sanctified. Sanctification is not achieved by striving, but by yielding to the work of the Holy Spirit. Our position in Christ is greater than our current condition, and real spiritual growth requires humility, honesty, and willingness to change. Peter's Failure Reveals the Danger of Self-Confidence Through Matthew 26, the sermon examines Peter's denial of Jesus. Peter failed because he: Refused to believe Jesus' warning Neglected prayer and watchfulness Substituted action for prayer Followed Jesus from a distance Catered to his flesh This progression shows how spiritual drift leads to open denial when believers rely on self-confidence rather than surrender. Yielding Prevents Spiritual Collapse Jesus warned, “Watch and pray lest you enter into temptation.” The sermon explains the difference between falling into temptation and entering into it deliberately. Yielding involves intentionally setting one's life up for spiritual success through prayer, discipline, and obedience. God's Grace Restores the Fallen Despite Peter's failure, God's grace was greater. Fifty days later, Peter stood up on the Day of Pentecost and preached the most powerful sermon in history. This demonstrates that failure does not disqualify a yielded heart. God restores those who repent and trust His grace. Forgetting What Is Behind From Philippians 3, the sermon teaches that many believers are controlled by their past. “Forgetting” does not mean erasing memory, but neglecting its power. Paul deliberately turned away from both sinful and successful parts of his past so he could pursue Christ fully. Yielding Requires Intentional Neglect of the Past Believers must choose to lay aside memories, regrets, accomplishments, and wounds that hinder forward movement. No counselor or circumstance can do this for someone—it is a personal decision empowered by the Holy Spirit. A Unified Pursuit of Christ The church is described as a people who are “with it” because they share the same pursuit, not because of obligation or structure. When believers wake each day seeking to please God, unity naturally follows. Final Call The sermon concludes with a strong call to surrender: Yield fully to God Forget what is behind Press toward the upward call of Christ Live not by sight, but by faith Believers are challenged to enter the new year with renewed commitment, trusting that a yielded life leads to freedom, restoration, and spiritual power.

What does living for Christ in every season look like? As believers, we're called to live fully surrendered to Jesus—not just in moments of inspiration, but through every season of life. In this message, Bill Johnson invites us into a deeper understanding of consistency, maturity, and wholehearted devotion to Christ. Drawing from the life of King Hezekiah, we see how God shapes leaders, disciplines those He loves, and builds internal strength so that His blessings don't become too great for us to carry. As favor increases, so does responsibility—and true promotion is always meant to bless the people around us.This sermon speaks to the refining mercy of God, the call to remain tender and childlike, and the importance of maintaining our first love through seasons of pruning, testing, and growth. It's a reminder that faith isn't sustained by inspiration alone, but by lordship—by choosing obedience, worship, and trust even when emotions fade. Our prayer is that you say, "yes," to the invitation to live aware of what you're truly living for as you devote your life to Jesus.

Today we're trashing feminism some more, because it obviously deserves it. Feminism is not only unbiblical, it's extremely destructive for all of society. We'll talk about why Christian podcasters like Allie Beth Stuckey shouldn't defend their feminism while claiming to follow Christ, and why Christianity itself is a patriarchy, by God's design. It's time for biblical men to stop waiting for permission from feminists and take back the authority God gave them. We'll also discuss more of the Trump administration's mistakes, including this ridiculous new 50-year mortgage idea that proves how far from wisdom our leaders have fallen.
How do we follow our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in ways that please Him? How do we advance in our spiritual knowledge and resulting growth that will cause us to be more obedient and live for His glory each day? Many Christians struggle with the fact that when they are saved, they serve a new Master and sin is no longer the controlling principle in their lives. This podcast episode of 2Days Denarius explores a devotional from the late John MacArthur's book "Strength for Today." This excellent daily devotional was published by Crossway in 1997 and remains popular today. This particular offering covers this topic well, along with commentary on this subject by Ron Thomas. Many believers struggle oftentimes because they don't realize that our spiritual battle is a daily one. We must have our minds transformed to Christ's image daily, along with doing the things necessary to avoid and mortify our temptations to sin. This Monday devotional starter will help its listeners grow vastly in these areas!"Strength for Today" is a wonderful daily devotional. It may be purchased on both Apple Books and Kindle. It's a great source of meditation, reflection, and spiritual growth. It was written by John MacArthur and published by Crossway Books in 1997. Highly recommended for 2DaysD listeners!Scripture quotes on salvation from Romans were incorrect in the podcast. These verses may be found in Romans 10:9-10 and Romans 10:13.Theme song "Holy Is the Lord" is written and performed by Pastor Steve Hereford of the Changed By Grace Church in Jacksonville FL. His inspirational Scripture songs may be found on Apple Music, Amazon Music, Spotify, and many other apps. Search "Steve Hereford."Your comments are welcome! Bobby looks back on the life and ministry of Pastor Russ G. Young, the faithful shepherd who shaped his family, church, and calling. From a hungry youth group that exploded from ~15 teens to hundreds, to a church built—literally and spiritually—on the Word, Pastor Young modeled uncompromising preaching, Spirit-dependence, and love for souls. Bobby recounts personal moments (including sharing gratitude at Pastor Young's bedside) and connects the story to a call for total surrender and confidence that, in Christ, we are “more than conquerors.” The episode is part remembrance and part rallying cry for young believers to say “yes” to Jesus and watch God use their lives.Topics DiscussedPastor Russ Young's legacy in Maple Shade/Pennsauken, NJPreaching the Bible plainly and applying it to real teen issuesYouth ministry that was both fun and gospel-focused (“Bigger & Better,” outreach, soulwinning)God's providence in redirecting callings (missionary aviation → pastor)The power of Spirit-anointed preaching and evangelismSurrender, obedience, and living as “more than conquerors” in ChristGratitude, grief, and hope in the face of deathKey TakeawaysFaithful, clear Bible preaching—without apology or compromise—shapes lives and churches.God often redirects good plans to His best; say “yes” to Jesus and trust His leading.Healthy youth ministry blends joyful activity with bold, gospel-centered proclamation.Legacy multiplies through people reached, discipled, and sent.In Christ, even grief is framed by victory: we are more than conquerors through His love. So Paul is actually going to say, "For me to live is Christ and die is gain." I wonder if we actually believe that. If we understand that. If we did, would we have the courage to put our faith on the line as we know Charlie Kirk, fellow believer and young man that shared Jesus with college students did? I mean, to question if we think this passage was written to you as well as others, like Charlie, who put it all on the line. Maybe this national tragedy will spark a flame that will ignite believers to live out their faith in new ways. What would that look like? This passage speaks of living in light of an eternal perspective. Our aim is not life preservation, but embodying the fullness of actually living for Jesus with every breath you have. And to die is gain? You can know Christ and not live for Him. To live for Christ… that takes courage, community and a cross. I will be speaking to each of these components as they describe truly living.

This is message 28 in The Power of God's Name Acts 15:26 True devotion to Jesus means valuing His name above life itself. From the apostles who risked everything, to Paul who was ready to die, to Stephen and countless others who faced death with joy, the testimony is clear. The name of Jesus is worth every sacrifice. Across history, faithful believers have proven that following Him is not about safety or ease but about surrender. Their lives call us to the same unwavering commitment, showing that nothing compares to the glory of living and dying for Christ. Pastor Ray Bentley has insight on inner and outer beauty. Any one of my sisters who will now spend time and attention and focus upon adorning that inner beauty of the gentle and quiet spirit will be beautiful, regardless of what your frame may seem to appear, it will compliment. It will draw people in. You'll all be beauties. Spread. You see all of these people coming down before the King.
Pastor Ray Bentley comments on Peter's admonition about the believer's outward appearance. Peter is not saying that any outward adornment is bad, but it is okay for a man to look and address. Well, it is good and all right for a woman to dress and want to be attractive and take care of her hair and you know where there is a line where the only object is only totally to focus on the outward spread?
