Joe and Greg laugh harder than they ever have discussing a basically perfect movie: Incredible action scenes, fantastic performances, and maybe no script? This is the shortest and potentially most entertaining James Bond movie, except for the other ones that are much, much better. And listen… Sometimes the conversation that needs to be had takes a while. In this case 40 minutes longer than the actual film. But after you listen to this episode you, dear listener, will know everything that you need to know. His work in Narcos alone is some of the best acting you will ever see on screen. It still gives me chills.Joaquin Cosío was born in Nayarit, Mexico. His training as an actor began in 1983 and has continued growing and developing ever since. In 1994, Cosío wrote his first stage play, titled Tomochic: Or the day the world ended, which was awarded the National Literature Prize. Performing in over 50 plays and over 600 live performances, his stage career reached a new milestone in 1999 when he was hand selected to join the National Theater Company. This led Cosío to make the decision to move to Mexico City permanently and focus on becoming a full-time actor. He has been working non-stop ever since as one of Mexico's most respected actors of stage and screen. He made his film debut in 2001 in the film The Blue Room and he has since participated in over 30 feature films and several shorts. Cosío played a multi-episode role in the HBO comedy Eastbound & Down. He played General Medrano, one of the main villains in the James Bond film Quantum of Solace, and acted alongside Benicio del Toro in Oliver Stone's gritty thriller, Savages. Cosío appeared in Robert Duvall's A Night in Old Mexico, and in Disney's 2013 filmThe Lone Ranger, starring Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer. Editors - Mags Arnold, Brenna Rangott and Matt Chessé ACE TRUE DETECTIVE: NIGHT COUNTRY editors Mags, Brenna and Matt had never worked together prior to uniting under showrunner Issa López for the fourth season of the HBO MAX anthology series, but you wouldn't know it from talking to them. The camaraderie between the three and the fun they have is in stark contrast to the dark and dangerous tone of their hit show. TRUE DETECTIVE: NIGHT COUNTRY is set in the fictional town of Ennis, Alaska and follows the investigation behind the mysterious disappearance, and even more mysterious discovery, of eight men from a research station. Leading the investigation are two law enforcement officers who share a troubled past, Detectives Liz Danvers (Jodie Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis). MATT "CHALKY" CHESSÉ, ACE Editor Matt Chessé, ACE often finds himself cutting with frequent collaborator, director Marc Forster. The pair have been working together since 2000 and have joined forces on such films as; MONSTER'S BALL (2001), FINDING NEVERLAND (2004), THE KITE RUNNER (2007), QUANTUM OF SOLACE (2008) and CHRISTOPHER ROBIN (2018). Matt also cut TRUE DETECTIVE: NIGHT COUNTRY star, Jodie Foster's film MONEY MONSTER (2016). MAGS ARNOLD Mags Arnold entered the film industry in 1993 as a trainee sound editor, crossing over to picture editing as second assistant editor in 1994. She was promoted to first assistant editor in 1995, working on films such as HIGH FIDELITY (2000) and CAPTAIN CORELLI'S MANDOLIN (2001), both under celebrated editor Mick Audsley. Following her work as an assistant, Mags has cut shows such as WITCHER (2023) and BIG LITTLE LIES (2019). BRENNA RANGOTT Brenna is the lone editor on "Night Country" who has past experience with showrunner Issa López, working on the series BRITTANIA (2019) together. Despite her cheerful demeanor, Bren could often be found in the cutting rooms of horror genre projects like STARVE ACRE (2023), FATHER OF FLIES (2021) and HOST (2020). Editing TRUE DETECTIVE: NIGHT COUNTRY In our discussion with TRUE DETECTIVE: NIGHT COUNTRY editors Mags Arnold, Brenna Rangott and Matt Chessé, ACE, we talk about: Fun with field trips When the editor is the scene stealer Keeping things light when the story's so dark Playing the paranormal against the practical How "clumping" is better than cross cutting The Credits Visit ExtremeMusic for all your production audio needs Check out the Frame.io blog for an enhanced transcription of The Rough Cut. For a long-running franchise like the James Bond series, the release of Casino Royale in 2006 was just a shot in the arm - this was the first film starring Daniel Craig as Agent 007 and it was also THE first film in the history of this franchise to be a genuine reboot. It received stellar reviews, made a ton of money, and was beloved by fans....it was also the first entry to end on a genuine cliffhanger. The plan for the next film was to have an immediate follow-up for our lead character as that ending would directly lead into this next story from the first scene on. So needless to say, expectations were QUITE high for this follow-up sequel released just about two years later....And while this movie did make as much money as its predecessor, the reviews were much worse and for the most part, fans were quite disappointed. This came from a director (Marc Forster) who had never directed a big budget entertainment like this before and it also started filming without a finished script.....and since there was a writer's strike at the time, that script remained largely unfinished through production. AND....this was a generally downbeat story also filmed in an admitted more claustrophobic style. It just left a sour taste in the mouths of audiences which fortunately was forgotten four years later with the release of the beloved Skyfall. So now revisiting this sequel 15 years later, was it really that bad? Well it featured a strong cast including Olga Kurylenko as the latest "Bond girl," Mathieu Amalric as the latest villain, and some returning cast from the previous film including Judi Dench, Giancarlo Giannini, and Jeffrey Wright. So let's find out....if there was a quantum....of....solace? :Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene Gershon https://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

Fast friends Paul and Taylor, discuss one of the most controversial James Bond movies of the Daniel Craig era: "Quantum of Solace." The direct sequel to the film that re-launched James Bond in "Casino Royale." "Quantum" had so much hype and expectations riding on it that it would most likely be disappointing to most Bond fans. However, that doesn't mean that "Quantum of Solace" is not a good film, it just is highly deserving of term: underrated or "Funderrated ." Film Synopsis: James Bond descends into mystery as he tries to stop a mysterious organisation from eliminating a country's most valuable resource.
James Bond is here to make water more affordable for Bolivians. Daniel Craig stars in his second outing as secret agent James Bond, Quantum of Solace, which had the difficult task of being the direct sequel to the well-loved Casino Royale. Most Bond fans will tell you that it's an inferior follow up, but can they tell you why? These two Bond fans can! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/whywasntitbetter/message

With all the UK showings of Quantum of Solace something interesting is happening to this film...in this podcast I discuss some observations and connect them to how we Bond fans MAY be wired....Get in...I said Get in!
We welcome our friend Katt back to discuss 2008's Quantum of Solace! Is Quant a sophomore slump? A fitting sequel to Casino Royale? Can there be such a thing as too much shaky cam? In this mission debrief for QUANTUM OF SOLACE, we identify the iconic elements we would use to describe it as "the one with", shake the Bond cocktail and pick this film's most potent ingredients, toot the horn for underappreciated elements, round up our favourite trivia tidbits, and give our final top/middle/bottom rankings. Agent 007 and M's interrogation of Mr White proves no one can be trusted on James Bond's newest action adventure, "Quantum of Solace". Fueled by the betrayal of Vesper, the woman he loved, Bond's determination to track down the mastermind behind White's sinister organisation leads to Haiti, where he finds an unlikely ally in Camille, a beautiful but feisty stranger. The trail quickly leads to Dominic Greene but with the British Government and the CIA working against him, Bond must kill or be killed on his mission to uncover the truth and destroy 'Quantum'. The recording took place on August 26th, 2022 in the USA and UK. On this episode of The James Bond A-Z Podcast hosts Tom Butler and Brendan Duffy are joined by Ajay Chowdhury, the co-author of the acclaimed 800-page Bond biography Some Kind of Hero and spokesperson of the James Bond International Fan Club, to do a deep dive into the story behind 2008's Quantum of Solace, starring Daniel Craig as Ian Fleming's James Bond 007. We explore the cast of creatives behind the scenes, the locations used in the movie, and the post-production scramble to get it into cinemas in time. We also look at the film's legacy from its box office and critical response, to its current standings with with 007 fans around the world. Ajay Chowdhury is a writer, producer and entertainment lawyer. He is the co-author of SOME KING OF HERO: The Remarkable Story Of The James Bond Films. This week we'll be heading to Bolivia to find out just what these Greene guys are putting in the water, just who is going down to Strawberry Fields, and will they be hung? Yes, it's Quantum of Solace, and joining me to barely tolerate the images and sounds on offer, is comedian Dan Thomas, who I wish to apologise to now.
