Jill Garner joins us today to help us uncover the essential strategies for raising children with strong, resilient hearts in today's challenging world. Together, Jill and Leslie will dig into the heart of biblical parenting, unpacking what it means to instill moral courage, foster true self-respect over self-esteem, and embrace a heart-centered approach to homeschooling. Through rich, faith-driven insights, they reveal how God's truth and a focus on character development equip the next generation to stand firm in a culture that often wavers. Packed with actionable tips and spiritual wisdom, this episode offers invaluable guidance for Christian homeschooling parents seeking to raise confident, God-honoring children.  Meet the Guest: Jill Garner is an accomplished speaker, advocate, and founder of Manners of the Heart, a nonprofit reawakening respect in our society for the sake of the next generation. She is the author of the award-winning Raising Respectful Children in a Disrespectful World, Raising Unselfish Children in a Self-Absorbed World, and Manners of the Heart, an elementary school curriculum that helps children see beyond themselves to become all God created them to be. Her work is endorsed by Focus on the Family, FamilyLife Today, Dr. Kevin Leman, and many others. Jill and her husband reside in Baton Rouge, LA.Key Takeaways:Heart schooling is essential for Christian discipleship and raising children who can stand firm in their faith. The culture's focus on self-esteem is a dangerous lie; instead, parents should teach children the biblical concept of self-respect. Humility and confidence can coexist when grounded in a child's identity in Christ. Parents must engage deeply and intentionally in their children's lives, especially as they enter the teenage years. Additional Resources: Secure your copy of StrongHeart: Cultivating Humility, Respect, and Resiliency in Your Child  Find out about more resources from Jill Garner HEREhttps://youtu.be/6KjLfO5BUDMPodcast Sponsors: We are thrilled to tell you about a new movie coming out on October 4 called White Bird. On episode 223 of The AwardsWatch Podcast, Executive Editor Ryan McQuade is joined by AwardsWatch Editor-In-Chief Erik Anderson, Associate Editor Sophia Ciminello and AwardsWatch contributor Josh Parham and Dan Bayer to do a look back twenty years at the 77th Academy Awards, celebrating the films of 2004. As the 2023 Oscar season and the 2024 SXSW Film Festival is behind us, the AW team are refreshed after a week off and ready to go back in time twenty years to discuss the Oscar ceremony where Million Dollar Baby took home the top prize, giving director Clint Eastwood his second Best Director Oscar of his career, and rewards Jamie Fox, Hilary Swank, Morgan Freeman, and Cate Blanchett the acting awards for their work in Ray, Million Dollar Baby, and The Aviator. Hosted by comedian Chris Rock (his first time hosting), the ceremony represented a pretty good year in cinema, with movies like The Incredibles, Sideways, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Collateral, Vera Drake, Shrek 2, Closer, Finding Neverland, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and more making up the winners and nominees. On this episode, the team talk about where they were in 2004, their thoughts on the overall film year as well as the Oscar ceremony, what they think of Million Dollar Baby as a Best Picture winner, do a little Oscar trivia as it relates to this year, and then they play a new version of the AW Shoulda Woulda Coulda game, where instead of individual replacements, they must decide as a team who the nominees and winners should be in the eight categories. Only catch is, they can only replace two of the previous nominees from each category. It made for a lively, fun show that we all hope you enjoy. You can listen to The AwardsWatch Podcast wherever you stream podcasts, from iTunes, iHeartRadio, Soundcloud, Stitcher, Spotify, Audible, Amazon Music and more. This podcast runs 3h12m. On our next episode, we will be covering a retrospective review of The Matrix for its 25th anniversary and talk about their favorite 90s action movies. Editors - Mags Arnold, Brenna Rangott and Matt Chessé ACE TRUE DETECTIVE: NIGHT COUNTRY editors Mags, Brenna and Matt had never worked together prior to uniting under showrunner Issa López for the fourth season of the HBO MAX anthology series, but you wouldn't know it from talking to them.  The camaraderie between the three and the fun they have is in stark contrast to the dark and dangerous tone of their hit show. TRUE DETECTIVE: NIGHT COUNTRY is set in the fictional town of Ennis, Alaska and follows the investigation behind the mysterious disappearance, and even more mysterious discovery, of eight men from a research station.  Leading the investigation are two law enforcement officers who share a troubled past, Detectives Liz Danvers (Jodie Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis). MATT "CHALKY" CHESSÉ, ACE Editor Matt Chessé, ACE often finds himself cutting with frequent collaborator, director Marc Forster.  The pair have been working together since 2000 and have joined forces on such films as; MONSTER'S BALL (2001), FINDING NEVERLAND (2004), THE KITE RUNNER (2007), QUANTUM OF SOLACE (2008) and CHRISTOPHER ROBIN (2018).  Matt also cut TRUE DETECTIVE: NIGHT COUNTRY star, Jodie Foster's film MONEY MONSTER (2016). MAGS ARNOLD Mags Arnold entered the film industry in 1993 as a trainee sound editor, crossing over to picture editing as second assistant editor in 1994. She was promoted to first assistant editor in 1995, working on films such as HIGH FIDELITY (2000) and CAPTAIN CORELLI'S MANDOLIN (2001), both under celebrated editor Mick Audsley. Following her work as an assistant, Mags has cut shows such as WITCHER (2023) and BIG LITTLE LIES (2019). BRENNA RANGOTT Brenna is the lone editor on "Night Country" who has past experience with showrunner Issa López, working on the series BRITTANIA (2019) together.  Despite her cheerful demeanor, Bren could often be found in the cutting rooms of horror genre projects like STARVE ACRE (2023), FATHER OF FLIES (2021) and HOST (2020). Arno Van de Velde is papa van twee, tekent onder naam Arnoleon en deelt zo al z'n ervaringen over het leven in de vorm van grappige strips (zoals in zijn bestseller 'De Papa Handleiding'). Samen bespreken we 'Christopher Robin'. Doing nothing often leads to the very best kind of something. Dat is ons nieuwe mantra. Merci, Poeh!

Editor - Matt Chesse, ACE A MAN CALLED OTTO editor Matt Chesse ACE once again finds himself cutting with frequent collaborator, director Marc Forster.  The pair have been working together since 2000 and have joined forces on such films as; MONSTER'S BALL(2001), FINDING NEVERLAND (2004), THE KITE RUNNER (2007), QUANTUM OF SOLACE (2008) and CHRISTOPHER ROBIN (2018).  For their latest project, the two have the enormous task of delicately balancing drama and comedy in their cinematic adaptation of the moving New York Times bestseller. A MAN CALLED OTTO tells the story of Otto Anderson (Tom Hanks), a grumpy widower whose only joy comes from criticizing and judging his exasperated neighbors. When a lively young family moves in next door, he meets his match in quick-witted and very pregnant Marisol, leading to an unexpected friendship that will turn his world upside-down. Host Alison Herman talks to David Magee about writing three films that were released in the same year, adaptation as a form of translation, exploring the deeper cause of pain and bitterness in both Chatterley and Otto, and much more. David Magee is the Academy Award-nominated screenwriter of FINDING NEVERLAND, THE LIFE OF PI, MARY POPPINS RETURNS and many more. His credits in 2022 include an impressive three feature films: THE SCHOOL FOR GOOD AND EVIL, now streaming on Netflix; an adaptation of D. H. Screenwriters seldom get the attention they deserve, which is just one reason Leonard and Jessie were happy to talk to David Magee, who wrote (or co-wrote) Finding Neverland, Life of Pi, Mary Poppins Returns, and the new Tom Hanks movie A Man Called Otto, among others. He also scripted the upcoming live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. Clearly, he's good at what he does, but the tale of how he became a screenwriter is perhaps the best story of all and is, to the best of our knowledge, unique. Tune in and hear it for yourself.
