Joey Seely is an engineer who builds some of the fastest unique Porsches on Earth. After cutting his teeth on Porsche Motorsport's race team, he co-founded BBI Autosport, then opened his business, Emotion Engineering. They focus on tailoring high-performance cars to the driver and environment using a mix of off-the-shelf parts and many of their own design. In a few years Joey has built a custom Pikes Peak car for Rhys Millen, ran Jeff Zwart's 935 campaign, practically created the modern overland Cayenne movement, turned a Turbo S into a Baja machine, all while continuing to learn, innovate, and push the limits. On this episode we talk about his amazing air-cooled Project Nasty; why a smaller-tire racing series is a good idea; what's "wrong" with a GT3; overrated paint colors; what he learned by doing things wrong; some of the tricks on Rhys' Pikes Peak car; carbon fiber costs; and so much more. https://emotionengineering.co/ https://www.instagram.com/emotion_engineering/?hl=en Recorded October 7, 2024  Get Maine LobsterHead over to GetMaineLobster.com – Promo Code TIRE – 15% off all orders store-wide  MyBookieDouble your first deposit up to $2,000 (100% deposit bonus) at https://bit.ly/joinwithTIRE Delete MeTake control of your data and keep your private life private by signing up for DeleteMe. Benson Hsu won 1st place at Falken Drift Showoff in Irwindale Speedway on March 02, 2003. It was the first time we'd ever seen a pro drifter on US soil doing drifting demos. Very famous and influential drivers from Japan were flown in with their cars for demos and judging - Yoshinori Koguchi, Seigo Yamamoto, Fumiaki Komatsu and Kazuya Bai. It was a day that introduced so many to drifting and inspired a generation of future drifters. Listen in as our host Nadine Hsu interviews Benson about the day, asking questions he didn't remember answers to (and some that he did.) He talks about his first time seeing Rhys Millen drift, some drama he had with JIC, being in awe of Koguchi's skill, and how it changed his life. For some behind the scenes content related to this event, please take a listen to the S1E3 interview featuring Nick Fousekis, the founder of Falken Tire's drifting program and one of the masterminds behind Falken Drift Showoff. Part 2 of PPIHC is another double-header! First: Rhys Millen and Joey Seely explain their secrets to being fast, the 1300HP 911 they're campaigning, and a bit of Rhys' history at the mountain. Plus, Rhys' weird tire secret. Then, we hop in an MDX with Acura's lead factory driver, James Robinson, who gives us a turn-by-turn tour of the mountain. He points out specific challenges, turns, driving lines, and talks about the event in general, how he started, and his NSX. Rhys Millen is one of the best drivers on Earth. He holds trophies from Formula D, and Global Rally Cross. He set his first Pikes Peak record in 1997 in a Toyota Supra. He was King of the Mountain (overall winner) in 2012 and 2015, set the EV record in 2016, and set the SUV record in 2018. He's also won at Baja, knows how to setup a car, and as we find out, has a weird secret with tires. Joey Seely was a co-founder of BBI Autosport. 6 years ago he struck out on his own to open Emotion Engineering. Initially, he focused on chassis/suspension setup. He was the lead engineer for Jeff Zwart's PPIHC efforts several times, including with the ultra-rare 935. But as former racing engineer, Joey knew he could go bigger. Over time he's developed his own parts, brake pads, and engine builds, all culminating in this incredible Pikes Peak effort with Rhys Millen. Head to https://www.Policygenius.com to get your free life insurance quotes and see how much you could save. Berryman Products. There was a lot of tough competition there, not the least of which was Rhys Millen in his GRC Hyundai. Tasso, Rhys, and Dave Kern were all battling for the top step of the podium all weekend. From there we talk about how the open rule set for Rally AWD in the CHCA has let Tasso and Dave Kern (and a couple of others) develop their cars to the point where they were actually able to run times close to what Rhys Millen was able to do in his car. That shows how capable the Rally AWD cars are becoming in the Colorado Hill Climb series. So does the open ruleset raise the level of competition? From there we talk about the differences in competing in a series with a very strict rule set (like NASA's time trials which Scotty runs in), versus an open rule set, and the benefits of each. Thanks for listening and Stay Tuned!

He has run front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, and all-wheel cars in the Pikes Peak Hill climb from when the race was fully dirt, up to the present day where the entire road is now paved. This week’s conversation is with snowmobiling legend Levi LaVallee, a 13 time X Games Medalist, Snocross Champion, and World Record holderLevi first tasted podium success in 2004 when he won the HillCross snowmobile event at the Winter X Games, in Aspen, Colorado and then made the switch to Freestyle competition. At the 2008 Winter X Games, Levi took gold in both the Speed & Style and Freestyle events and was later named Best Male Athlete of the entire competition. He also made history when he became the first person to attempt a double backflip on a snowmobile at the 2009 Winter X Games. After soaring more than 15m into the air, he went long on the landing and was thrown from his sled upon impact. The attempt was so tantalisingly close to succeeding that many people considered it a great achievement. The X Games medals weren’t enough though -- in 2011, he took the torch from Travis Pastrana, Robbie Maddison and Rhys Millen for one of his greatest feats – Red Bull New Year No Limits.Levi jumped across the San Diego Bay on a snow mobile, setting a new world record of 412ft (125m).And that sets the tone for this conversation --- it’s about what led up to that world record-setting moment that gave Levi the confidence, the courage, the hunger to go for that type of feat.Levi is a student of progression – he’s organized his life that way, from a young age to now, and it becomes evident how that’s allowed him to succeed at just about anything he puts his mind to.------Please support our partners! We're able to keep growing and creating content for YOU because of their support.
