Am ersten Adventswochenende hatten wir zwölf Mädchen zwischen 12 und 16 Jahren zu Gast im Mutterhaus; zum Klostergucken und ein bisschen mehr über Ordensleben und die Schwestern zu erfahren. Es ging ums Singen und Beten und Basteln, mit den Schwestern frühstücken und in den Advent staraten. Am Samstagnachmittag haben wir zusammen einen Film angeschaut, der die biblische Geschichte rund um das Weihnachtsgeschehen aus Sicht von Josef und Maria von Nazareth sehr anschaulich gemacht hat. Die Mädchen waren total überrascht und zum Teil auch erschrocken von der ziemlich rauen Realität dieser Zeit; den Kämpfen zwischen den Aufständischen und der römischen Besatzung, der unglaublichen Verwirrung rund um die Volkszählung, der späteren Flucht nach Ägypten und so weiter. Die Mädchen hatten, wie die meisten von uns, eine friedliche und freundliche Vorstellung dieser Zeit und eine süßen Krippen- und Engelsromantik. Und dass Maria so jung war, war ihnen auch nicht bewusst. Und erst mit dem Altersvergleich mit ihnen selbst wurde deutlich, welche Verantwortung Maria und Joseph übernommen hatten und welches Vertrauen sie immer wieder in diesen Gott haben mussten, um all die schrecklichen Geschehnisse zu überstehen und das Kind Jesus zu behüten und zu beschützen. Gottes Sohn ist nicht in eine liebliche und heile Welt gekommen, um allen ein schönes Fest zu bereiten. Er ist heruntergekommen in Krieg und Krise und Chaos, um mit seinen Menschen durch all diese Dinge hindurch zu gehen und bei ihnen zu bleiben und zu zeigen, dass Gott sie nicht verlässt. Und wenn wir heute an Maria denken, die schon von ihrer Zeugung an von Gott zu dieser Aufgabe ausgewählt worden ist, dann denken wir vielleicht nicht mehr nur an eine schöne junge Frau in weißem Gewand mit blauem Schleier, Rosenkranz und geneigtem Kopf. Sondern an eine Frau, die sehr bewusst ihren Auftrag angenommen hat und mit Energie und Liebe alles erfüllt hat, was ihr jeden Tag an Aufgaben gestellt worden sind.

Over the summer my family and I went on a vacation to Europe. We spent about 7 days in Spain before wrapping up in Portugal. During my time there I wanted to get a t-shirt for a soccer team from each city we stopped in. I got something in Valencia and Seville. But it's the shirt I got in Lisbon that has been creating a bit of an issue for me. I got a shirt for the team Benfica. Every time I wear this shift out in public someone stops me to comment about their love of Benfica. I had never even heard of this team before visiting Lisbon. It's been kind of wild to see what kind of fanbase they have here in America.One gentleman who stopped me was Billy Harte. He came up to me in a coffee shop in Towson, MD. We spoke for a few minutes and he started telling me all about his new soccer apparel company called The Pitch Performance. I mean, it's brand new.
