Nick Yelloly had a very successful 2026 Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach. He earned pole position, and along with his teammate Renger van der Zande, also won the race in his Acura ARX-06 IMSA GTP car! Nick took the usual route to sports car racing success. He started in karting as a kid and moved up the open-wheel ladder in Europe competing in Formula Renault, GP3, and GP2. He then switched to sports cars winning the China GT Championship as well as competing stateside and winning with the RLL BMW GTP team. He switched to Acura in 2025 and has continued his success. Meanwhile, he's also been an F1 test driver since 2014 and is currently doing those duties for the Aston Martin F1 team. With the month of May upon us, we figured it was a good episode to re-visit. His story is still being written, but Alexander Rossi is the poster child of an American success story. Growing up in Northern California, Alex grew up in the California karting scene before going on to Formula BMW USA, ultimately leave the US to pursue his dream of Formula One, where he'd achieve the ultimate by becoming an official test driver, and finally an official F1 driver for ManorF1. When opportunities in F1 began to unravel, Alex immediately found a new home in IndyCar, winning the 100th Indianapolis 500 in his first year, and now a regular threat for the championship. One of the pioneers behind the Grand Prix of Long Beach, Jim unfortunately passed on Saturday, March 21, but we were fortunate to spend an extended amount of time with him in 2021 in our “Building Long Beach” video and podcast series. One of the key members since Year One, Jim Michaelian went from a kid with an MBA helping out in finance, to the current President and CEO of the Grand Prix Association of Long Beach. From boots on the ground at the beginning, to steering the ship today, Jim is uniquely qualified to know both the history of the event and the challenges that face the Grand Prix today. Episode 406: It was a bright Sunday late-morning, on May 31, 2015, in Calgary, Alberta, when a passerby heard a bang inside an airport‑area parkade and saw smoke pouring from the trunk of a black Acura. The car was still running, licence plate gone, still aflame as firefighters moved in, and a bystander quietly filmed a lone man walking away, glancing back at the burning vehicle. When investigators opened the doors, they found no driver, but blood soaked into the driver's seat, the door, and the back seat, telling them someone had bled heavily inside that car. The Acura was registered to a 42‑year‑old limo driver, Dwayne Demkiw, who lived three hours north in Edmonton and hadn't been seen since he finished a late shift around 4 a.m. that same morning. While his friends frantically called his phone and posted online, police in two cities were starting to realize they might be dealing with something far worse than a stolen car.
