This is the week of the 2024 Pikes Peak Hill Climb, and our car and the team are up on the mountain getting ready for the race this Sunday. With all that is going on, we didn't have the chance to record a new episode of the Podcast, so this seemed like the perfect time to go back to our Pikes Peak Roundtable from episode 30 of the Podcast. This was recorded as we were getting ready for the 2021 Pikes Peak Hill Climb, and we had on a number of guests with a ton of experience on Pikes Peak. We talk to: Scott Crouch - Flatirons Tuning driver Andy Kingsley Stephan Verdier Victor Kuhns Dave Kern It was a great discussion, and definitely worth checking out if you missed this episode. Thanks for watching and thanks for your support!
Mitchell of Racing with Mitchell joins us as guest host this week. On this episode, the first man ever to step into Victoria's Secretexpresses his frustration that the store doesn't sell car bras. His plan to put a car bra on his cobra prompts a discussion about vintage automotive accessories and the desire to see certain technologies make a comeback. Meanwhile, the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, already an intense challenge, is set to become even more exhilarating with the addition of a Rainbow Road. This sparks reflections on personal experiences with dangerous driving situations and inquiries about Mario Kart skills. Audi, for the 30th consecutive year, reigns supreme as the least desirable German car brand, fueling the friendly rivalry among car enthusiasts. The conversation delves into Jon's allegiance to BMW, a Mitchell's recent switch from a Miata to an RX8, and the intriguing Hybrid Renesis build. Lastly, car-loving fathers inadvertently contribute to a significant increase in flashlight phobia among adolescents, prompting a reflection on the practical skills passed down from dads. But of course we wrap up with The Motorhead Blitz. Mitchell takes a shot at 10 current even trivia questions to try and dethrone the current King Motorhead!
World renowned EFI tuner, Shane Tecklenburg joins Hidden Horsepower for a wide ranging conversation about his career and the endless possibilities associated with Electronic Fuel Injection. "Shane T" discusses some of the pitfalls of EFI and gives some opinions on how to avoid them. Hosts Keith Jones and Joe Castello ask questions about the many projects that Shane has taken on including Bonneville with George Poteet's Speed Demon, the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, and of course, the drag strip.

For episode 114 of the Flatirons Syndicate podcast, Jon, Wyatt, and Dylan sit down to first talk about the 2023 Pikes Peak Hill Climb. The 101st Pikes Peak Hill Climb was just a few days ago as we recorded this, and there were a number of records that fell, so we wanted to start off talking about our impressions of the race this year. From there, the guys talk about an increasingly common occurrence when it comes to looking for parts for older Subaru's which is discovering that the part that you need is not available any more. They talk about options and what companies like Roger Clark Motorsports are doing to bring some of the most needed parts back. Finally, a story is making the rounds about a 2022 WRX that is now making 600 whp on the stock engine. What does this mean, and how does it change the impressions of the new chassis? Thanks for listening and Stay Tuned!

Pikes Peak Hill Climb is the most prestigious race in the entire country. This year is the 101st anniversary of a race, not just against other cars but against a 14,115ft mountain with 156 turns over 12.42 miles. Derek and his team are adding to Mitsubishi's over 200 car deep fight against the mountain in their purpose built Evo X. We start by talking about Derek's history of racing the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. He then tells us about the setup on his Evo X that makes it not only fast but able to handle all of those turns and gigantic elevation change. Derek talks about his racing background and why he eventually decided to talk on the mountain from other forms of racing. Derek talks about his goals for this year, the race is actually this weekend (June 25th, 2023). He then goes on to talk about his long term goals in the race including setting new records. Derek talks about his coincidental ownership of this Evo X and why it sparked his love for this car. Derek gives his advice for any would-be Pikes Peak racers, from race beginners to seasoned racers. Finally Derek gives a shoutout to all those shops and people who have helped him get his car where it is over the years.
NASCAR made an impressive entry into the 24 Hours of Le Mans race with a Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. The project, backed by NASCAR and Hendrick Motorsports, featured renowned drivers like Mike Rockenfeller, Jenson Button, and Jimmie Johnson. Despite facing some criticism from rival teams, the Camaro performed well, setting lap times faster than the GTE cars. However, transmission trouble forced the car to undergo repairs. Ultimately, it finished 39th out of 62 cars. In another Le Mans comeback, Ferrari triumphed after a 50-year absence. The race saw intense competition between Ferrari and Toyota, with the Ferrari eventually emerging victorious due to issues faced by Toyota. The 2024 Acura Integra Type S will participate in the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, while an amusing incident occurred in Colorado when a driver tried to avoid a DUI arrest by switching places with his dog. Finally, a recap of some popular opinions on topics like dealing with car leaks, the status of Pluto as a planet, and the reactions to the check engine light. Finally, we cover A Moment in History with The Ocean to Ocean Automobile Endurance Race. A transcontinental race held in 1909 from New York City to Seattle. It aimed to promote the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Expo. Henry Ford's Model T emerged as the winner, showcasing the potential of the motor car. However, Ford was later disqualified for swapping a motor, and the second-place Shawmut car was awarded the win. The race was re-enacted in 2009 with 55 Model T Fords taking the same route.
Converting a FWD Honda to a RWD platform is not easy task, but it does come with some solid benefits as we will discuss looking at this F20c powered space framed Honda Prelude [TECH TOUR].Use ‘PODCAST75' for $75 off your first HPA course here: https://hpcdmy.co/hpa-tuned-inWith an Ethanol fed, 24-26 PSI boosted, 9,000 RPM 750hp Dandy Engines F20c boasting Eagle Rods, factory crank and camshafts (because they're that good), aftermarket pistons, SuperTech valves and a new Garrett G35-900, this Fastr sponsored RWD converted Honda Prelude is no slouch in its regular appearances in the ACL Race Series.Professional driver Brett Dickie took a few moments while at the World Time Attack Challenge to discuss his build (with the help of his skilled father) discussing the some of the advantages the rear wheel drive (RWD) conversion gives a driver behind the wheel along with his thoughts in passing on EMtrons torque management system. As you might have guessed, the car runs an ProWire Performance Wiring fitted EMtron KV8 ECU along with a MoTeC CDL dash for some extra logging bandwidth and driver display duties which Brett felt was the best combination he could get for performance and his requirements without blowing out the budget too far. We caught up with Brett just before his first run with the new Garrett G35-900 turbocharger which is replacing a 3076 and we look forward to getting his thoughts on a comparison next time we chat along with some of the data this system can and will provide him with as he and his team gets it all dialed in with the help of a Turbosmart E-Gate (electronic wastegate), DBW blow off valve, MAP sensors pre and post the throttle body and an exhaust pressure sensor. With no bolt-on solution available, the dry sump setup is a mix of BDG dry sump components and a custom sump, with Brett sharing some thoughts on what he has learnt and would do differently second time around. Tucked behind the F series engine is a 6 speed TTi GTO sequential gearbox and Motorsport Services strain gauge lever which feeds a GJ Drivelines driveshaft and R200 LSD diff center nicked from a Nissan Skylines rear end. The Nissan parts list also includes the uprights, with 300ZX ones used to help try and reign in custom work and give more bolt in part options, and of course being something that physically worked with the package. Also touched on are some of the boost control strategies employed, but Brett is pretty straight up that his knowledge is more focused on being behind the wheel than behind the laptop, and with 20+ years of it his no doubt his feedback goes a long way to help dial things in for race day.You can catch Brett and this build racing in the ACL Race Series, and you can catch Brett racing other cars like the previous title winning Elusive Racing DC2 Integra at the World Time Attack Challenge as well as other cars in Global Time Attack and Pikes Peak Hill Climb events.
Motos and Friends is brought to you by the Yamaha R7, your gateway to a new generation of supersport machine. In our first segment, Editor Don Williams rides the new Suzuki GSX-8S. This highly anticipated upright-naked sportbike features the all-new parallel twin from the big S, and we have been very excited to try it out. Don really liked the motor in Suzuki's new V-Strom, so it'll be interesting to see if it is perhaps even better suited to a street bike. The big question of course, is who exactly is the target rider for the 8S? Speaking of sportbikes, the Isle of Man TT is arguably the most fearsome, intense—as well as the longest—motorcycle race in the world. The Superbike races are around 225 Miles and 1200 corners, including 2 full pit stops! It takes a very special level of skill, courage, and yes, a large dollop of insanity too, to ride in, let alone win, a TT race. The TT is always the first week in June, so it's on right now—see the links below. Just in time for this year's event, I chat with my Aussie friend, Rennie Scaysbrook. Rennie is the Road Test Editor for Cycle News magazine here in the US. As a fellow journalist, he and I have tested motorcycles at tracks all over the world; he's a great guy, a good laugh. He holds the record for the challenging Pikes Peak Hill Climb, so as you might imagine, he's an especially talented rider too. Rennie rode the IOM TT last year in the Supersport category and acquitted himself well, despite some technical gremlins. He's riding again this year for the Craig Wilson team, but this time he's on a Superstock-class Honda Fireblade CBR1000RR-SP. Now that's a whole different ballgame! Rennie's descriptions of riding the sections around the famed TT course are absolutely electrifying. Do you think you've got the mental fortitude, concentration, and level of skill that it takes to thread the TT needle on country roads through tiny villages at 195 miles per hour? Rennie's take on riding the TT will likely answer that for you. This chat is a doozy—so hold on to your hat for this one. I get guest suggestions sent to me regularly, and this show is the result of one of those. Dave Kallmann messaged me on Twitter to suggest a few motorsports photographers, and that instantly intrigued me. Dave is a sports reporter for Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and he is one hell of a photographer himself. If he was suggesting someone then I knew I had to take a look, and man, I am so glad that I did. Jamey Price is a motorsport and automotive photographer from Charlotte, North Carolina, and he is in a league of his own. If you've watched or listened to show for any amount of time, you'll know that I spend a lot of time looking through my guest's work to try and find common threads, those things that seem to connect all of the shots together. Many photographers have these fine threads that seem to weave from image to image, a way that they tell their story that is unique to them. For Jamey it's motion. Let me explain... As a motorsports photographer, of course Jamey is photographing things in motion, and when I say motion I mean speed, but that's not the thread I am talking about. Jamey has an ability to coney to the viewer a feeling of actual motion. Through the use of panning, a creative depth of field, or a dragged shutter, Jamey makes you feel like you are along for the ride. I'm not sure if you can motion sickness from a photo, but if you can then you'd be advised to view Jamey's work carefully. I am left wondering if Jamey's early career choices played a role in the resulting images I see. Jamey was a thoroughbred steeplechase horse racing jockey and exercise rider in the United States, England and Ireland. He rode in more than 50 races, and notched 11 wins in the saddle, all the while taking photos between his races. He eventually self published a book titled "Chasing: Racing Life in England & Ireland." In 2011, Jamey's photography career path switched from horses, to horse power. Since then, his images have been published around the world in magazines, newspapers and websites including The New York Times, HotRod, Hagerty, MAXIM, Car&Driver, CycleWorld, Road&Track, Autoweek, RACER, MotorTrend, Autosport, F1 Racing magazine, Motorsport Magazine, Formula1.com, Lamborghini.com, TopGear.com, Blackbird Automotive Journal, Popular Mechanics, Sports Illustrated & ESPN and many others. Named Motorsport Photographer of the Year in 2019 by the National Motorsports Press Association, Jamey currently does freelance work supplying racing and marketing imagery to some of the most respected automotive brands, photographers, agencies and racing teams and drivers across the world including: Lamborghini & Lamborghini Squadra Corse, Ferrari, Ducati, Audi Canada, Acura, Red Bull, Ford, Bentley, Goodyear, PUMA, MOTUL, RM Sotheby's, Aston Martin Racing, Manor Racing F1 team, Force India Formula 1 team, Renault Formula 1 team, Alpine Formula 1 Team, Williams Formula 1 team, Toyota Gazoo Racing, the Macau Grand Prix and many more. Though primarily sticking to the motor racing and automotive world, Jamey has photographed a diverse range of sporting assignments from professional swimming, to the Kentucky Derby & Breeders' Cup Horse Racing World Championships, NFL games, US Women's National team soccer, and of course the fast-paced world of NASCAR, World Endurance Championship, Formula E, IMSA Weathertech Championship, NHRA, Pikes Peak Hill Climb, Indycar & the Indy 500, MotoGP, 24 hours of Le Mans, 24 hours of Nürburgring, more than 35 Formula 1 races, and a little bit of everything in between! Jamey has been the staff photographer for successful Charlotte based luxury print magazine, QC Exclusive and Discover the Carolinas since 2014 and is a sponsored LEXAR Elite Artist. Join award winning photographer, and LEXAR Elite Artist, Jamey Price and me as we peek into his world of F1 Motorsports Photography, on this Behind the Shot. As an 8-year-old, Pastor Don Wickstrum ("Fastest Pastor") had a dream to race in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb after seeing Bobby Unser do it on TV. Despite his dream, Don eventually created one of the largest robotic integrators in the country. In 2018, Don received a doctor's report that no one wants to hear—colon cancer. His doctor advised Don to step away from his business to extend his life. The diagnosis would put Don on a new journey with purpose and fulfillment. This former atheist accepted Jesus Christ with a new perspective on his life. Whatever Don was going to do, it would include serving God because of his deep understanding of who he was in Christ.A friend encouraged Don to pursue his dream. After he and his wife sought God's direction, Don's childhood dream would come to true. Eventually, the multimedia company “I Am Second”, founded by Norm Miller, would document Don's story in a movie called, “Chasing Hope.” The film follows Don as he shares the Hope of Jesus Christ on and off the track. Don will race again on June 25, 2023. He will race 12.42 miles that day complete with 156 turns. With each turn, Don will face each one, all while Chasing Hope.------------------------FROM THE SHOW:Don's website:https://fastestpastor.com/"Chasing Hope" Movie:https://www.iamsecond.com/film/chasing-hope/I Am Second website:https://www.iamsecond.com/Book Don to Speak:https://fastestpastor.com/speaking----------------------------------------MORE ABOUT THE PODCAST:Behind The Mike website:https://BehindTheMikePodcast.comEmail:Mike@BehindTheMike.netRate & Review on Apple Podcasts:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/behind-the-mike-conversations-of-hope/id1491102872SPONSOR:Covenant EyesGet 30-days FREE using promo code: BEHINDTHEMIKEhttps://covenanteyes.comSupport the showhttps://buymeacoffee.com/TheMikePodSupport the showWatch these podcasts on YouTube!Follow Us!FacebookInstagramTikTok
Pastor Don has had a dream since he was 8 years old of being able to conquer the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. A dream that seemed way far out of reach for him to even achieve. Over the years PD (has he is affectionately known), has been involved in racing and ministry all while being a serial entrepreneur and owning one of the largest robotic integrators in the country . In late 2018 all of this would change with a diagnosis from his doctor in which colon cancer was aggressively inhabiting his body, forcing him to sell his business and evaluate the future. Refusing to let it shut him down he wanted to push to live life and reach others with the Gospel. That's when a friend of his offered to help him accomplish his bucket list item of racing Pikes Peak Hill Climb. However little did he know the battle to complete the Pikes Peak Hill Climb while fighting cancer would be a multi-year journey with crashes, challenges, and failure will he make it to the summit? https://fastestpastor.com/
**We're spending a couple of weeks away from the microphone over the Christmas and New Year period. This means that although we won't be publishing any new guest appearances until mid-January, we're going to be bringing back some of our favourite older episodes that deserve another listen.**This week's episode of the HPA Tuned In podcast is a fascinating one as we dig into the finer details of building and driving one of the fastest hill climb cars on earth with Robin Shute of the Sendy Club.Recorded just a few days after Robin's recent third consecutive overall win at the 100th running of the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, this ace driver and automotive engineer is coming off a brutal week full of engine fires, sleep deprivation, and appalling weather conditions — and he has a whole lot to say about the experience.Use ‘PODCAST75' for $75 off your first HPA course here: https://hpcdmy.co/hpa-tuned-inSure, someone wins Pikes Peak every year, but the difference with Robin and The Sendy Club team is that they aren't backed by a big manufacturer opening up the chequebook in search of glory — it's a bunch of (admittedly very smart and talented) enthusiasts who've come together to dominate at the world's greatest hill climb event. As an automotive engineer and top-level driver, Robin is an absolute goldmine of information when it comes to not just driving exceptionally fast cars, but the finer, nerdier details of building them too. A lot of time is spent in this podcast pouring through the details of the Sendy Club's incredible Honda K-powered Wolf hill climb car. Don "Fastest Pastor" Wickstrum joins the show today to talk about how he has overcame countless amounts of obstacles, including a battle with cancer, crashing cars on the side of a mountain, and wrestling with the existence of God. Throughout Don's life, he has had a desire to conquer one of the most dangerous racing tracks in the world: Pikes Peak Hill Climb. Little did he know that his journey to get to that point was even more crazier than driving 140 mph on the side of dangerous mountain. Listen as Don and Ken discuss how he has been able to not only overcome adversity on the track, but in his life. While going from atheist to pastor and engineer to race car driver, Don has managed to find Christ's peace along the way and show thousands of people how to overcome obstacles that are put in your way. Don's new documentary, "Chasing Hope" by I Am Second productions, is out NOW to view! Go check it out (and make sure to grab something to wipe your tears). For episode 99 of the Flatirons Syndicate Podcast, we first check in with Dussex about his last couple of races, and Tasso about how he is getting along with finding a shell and building a new OTC Rally Car. We also have a new member of the Podcast this episode, Mike aka. The Beard aka. DP, from the shop. We then talk about the news that the Pikes Peak Hill Climb is now working with manufacturers that want to set an Official Race Time on Pikes Peak, but outside of the actual race that is only held once a year. This now makes Pikes Peak effectively America's Nurburgring... But is that a good thing? Or a bad thing? And what does it mean for the race itself? We also talk with Dussex about the 2023 PPIR Gold Rush Race that he is putting on the week after the hill climb next year. Lots of good stuff packed into this episode. Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
Loni Unser is part of a family that has a rich history in motorsports, and especially in racing in the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. In this episode we talk about her road from racing go-karts, to Miata's, to driving in the 100th Pikes Peak Hill Climb. Believe it or not, Loni started out racing on skis, not in anything with 4 wheels. That came later when she started driving Karts a bit, and that quickly moved into racing Spec Miata with NASA Rocky Mountain. From there she ran the Mazda MX5 cup with Hixon Motor Sports in 2021, and her success there set the foundation for her to secure a place in the Porsche Cup for the 100th running of the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. For episode 98 of the Flatirons Syndicate Motorsports Podcast, we talk with Loni about her path to racing, what she though about competing in the Pikes Peak Hill Climb for the first time, and we also talk to her about Shift Up Now which she is a part of. Thanks for listening and Stay Tuned!
Dai Yoshihara is a professional driver who has competed in Formula D, Time Attack, Road Racing, and Hill Climb. And it all started with a motorcycle. Sort of. On this episode we find out how Dai got his start in driving, drifting, and the unlikely meeting that led to his first drift event and ultimately, his career. Dai walks us through his car history; the differences between road racing and drifting; why he loves the Pikes Peak Hill Climb; his AE86 builds; and the one race car he would own if he could. Some of his most notable moments: he won the Formula D championship in 2011, 3rd place in the 25 Hours of Thunderhill, 1st overall in the 2019 Global Time Attack Super Lap Battle, and took 1st place in the Unlimited class (and 9th overall) at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb of 2020. He's also been a drift judge, a precision driver, co-hosted a show on Hagerty along with our own Zack Klapman, and has been the face of many brands. This week's episode of the HPA Tuned In podcast is a fascinating one as we dig into the finer details of building and driving one of the fastest hill climb cars on earth with Robin Shute of the Sendy Club. Recorded just a few days after Robin's recent third consecutive overall win at the 100th running of the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, this ace driver and automotive engineer is coming off a brutal week full of engine fires, sleep deprivation, and appalling weather conditions — and he has a whole lot to say about the experience.Use ‘PODCAST75' for $75 off your first HPA course here: https://hpcdmy.co/hpa-tuned-inSure, someone wins Pikes Peak every year, but the difference with Robin and The Sendy Club team is that they aren't backed by a big manufacturer opening up the chequebook in search of glory — it's a bunch of (admittedly very smart and talented) enthusiasts who've come together to dominate at the world's greatest hill climb event. Turbo sizing, altitude considerations, aerodynamics, braking performance, and everything in between gets covered here. There's also a great discussion had around the art of driving itself — both in terms of how to be fast, proper preparation, and carving out a successful career in motorsport. This episode is absolutely jammed with useful and inspirational information that'll have you itching to get back into the workshop and on the tools. For Episode 74 of the Flatirons Syndicate Motorsports Podcast, Ryan and I talk to Cole Powelson about his run up Mount Washington, World Time Attack, and the two crazy cars that Lyfe Motorsports is getting ready for the 2022 Pikes Peak Hill Climb. I will mention that I was late getting Ryan the link for the Podcast, so I started to talk to Cole as he was getting set up, and asked about the electric Sierra car that he had just posted about on Instagram. that turned out to be a fantastic conversation so I left it in, but that is why you won't hear the intro to the episode for a bit. It sounds like a fantastic project and it sounds like a very cool application for an electric motor. If you haven't seen Cole's run up Mount Washington, you should definitely take a look at that. Cole took 2nd place over all, and set a new record for the rear-wheel drive class. Lyfe Motorsports is building two unique cars for the 2022 Pikes Peak Hill Climb. The first is a Prodrive built GC chassis that is being updated with all of the best modern motorsports parts from a Rallispec engine to a Sadev transmission which we are really looking forward to see on Pikes Peak in a couple of months. The other is their 2015 Nissan GT-R known as "Frank the Tank". Cole ran the car at Pikes Peak before, but this time around it is being converted to rear-wheel drive, and it will have a Power Stroke Diesel under the hood. This was a great conversation for sure, and I hope you enjoy it. Thanks for listening and Stay Tuned!
Discover where John Hennessey (CEO of multiple Hennessey companies) finds great employees, why he went from race car driving to driving a business, and when he realized the importance of providing entertainment (14 minutes). CEO BLINDSPOTS PODCAST GUEST: John Hennessey. He is the founder & CEO of Hennessey Special Vehicles, Hennessey Performance, Tuner School, and Lonestar Motorsports Park. Born with a passion for speed and fast cars, John found early racing success behind the wheel of a modified Mitsubishi 3000GT at events such as the Pikes Peak Hill Climb and the Silver State Classic. Hennessey even set a world speed record in his class at the Bonneville Salt Flats. Fueled by his passion for racing, horsepower, and speed, John began modifying imports out of his garage in 1991 – it wasn't long before his 1,000-hp twin-turbocharged Dodge Vipers were getting international attention in celebrated automotive publications such as Motor Trend, Car and Driver, Top Gear, and Road & Track. John quickly opened a dedicated performance shop, which grew to be one of the largest independent automotive tuners in the world. Hennessey became a name synonymous with performance – “the American icon of speed and the open road” – and the company's vehicles were being offered and sold to a global market. By the numbers, more than 10,000 specialty vehicles, including mid-engine supercars, six-wheeled supertrucks, and modern muscle cars have been improved with Hennessey performance modifications. Still operating at full throttle, John founded Hennessey Special Vehicles in 2017 with the mission of designing, engineering, and manufacturing the world's fastest cars. The company's first project, the Venom F5 – a bona fide 300+ mph hypercar – started customer deliveries in 2021. Today, the Hennessey facilities in Texas include a large manufacturing plant and a dedicated test track – where vehicles may be tested at speeds of up to 150 mph. Tuner School, the only teaching institution of its kind, offers the next generation of automotive enthusiasts hands-on education to the art of making vehicles faster. In addition, John recently announced his "Project Deep Space" plans to make the world's first luxury electric car that is a 6-wheel drive where the driver is in the center of the car and the rear offers lie-flat seating, all inspired by private-jet class lavishness John, his wife Hope, and their five children live in Houston, Texas. Cole is a driver that we have followed for several years now, first because of all that he did with the Lyfe Motorsports GTR Time Attack car. He has competed in that car in many Time Attack events, including the World Time Attack event in Sydney Australia, and he still holds many track records here in the US. He has even brought that car to the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, and we have raced with him there a few times. Then Cole started Sierra Cars where he is now building an open-wheel race car from the ground up. We had the opportunity to drive a couple of the Sierra Cars on the ice at Georgetown Lake and they were so much fun. These cars were so easy to drive and so predictable, it was clear that a ton of development had gone into them. We talk with Cole about Sierra Cars, Time Attack, the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, and even a couple of really cool projects that he is working on as well. Hint: one is a very cool Subaru, and the other is an iconic Time Attack legend. Enjoy the conversation and thank you for listening!

For episode #38 of the Flatirons Syndicate Motorsports Podcast, we have a conversation with Rhys Millen from Rhys Millen Racing. There are few people that have run as many different types of cars in the Pikes Peak Hill Climb as Rhys Millen. He has run front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, and all-wheel cars in the Pikes Peak Hill climb from when the race was fully dirt, up to the present day where the entire road is now paved. Not only that but he has also run both internal-combustion engine cars as well as fully electric cars in the race as well. And he has been very successful in all of them. When we reached out to see if we could talk with Rhys about his experiences running the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, he was actually getting ready to run the Norra 1000 race in Baja, California. He was racing in a car that he has designed at Rhys Millen Racing, the 4 wheel drive Jackal, so we definitely wanted to find out more about the development of that car as well. We had a fantastic conversation with Rhys talking about all aspects of the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, off-road racing, rally, and we hope that you enjoy it. Thanks for listening and Stay Tuned!

For episode #35 of the Flatirons Syndicate Motorsports Podcast, we sit down with our driver, Scott Crouch, Ryan from DSX Motorsports, and Scotty from the shop to go over our experiences running in the 2021 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. This was the 99th running of this race, and this was our 10th consecutive year running as well. We had made a few good changes to our 2014 WRX Pikes Peak Race car for this year, and we had some good signs in testing as we were headed into race week. The way that the Pikes Peak Hill Climb is run is fairly unique, and the testing and qualifying takes place for the whole week leading up to the actual race which takes place on Sunday. This year, a lot happened in that lead up to the race, and on race day itself, the mountain had another surprise in store for everyone as well. Weather can be a factor any year on Pikes Peak, but this year, it was a factor for every single competitor. Thanks for listening and Stay Tuned!

The way the Pikes Peak Hill Climb is run is unique because testing and qualifying occur for the entire week leading up to the actual race. This year, a lot happened in the run-up to the race, and on race day itself, the mountain had another surprise in store for everyone as well. Weather can be a factor any year on the Peak, but it was major for every single competitor this year. Thanks for listening and Stay Tuned!

Ryan from DSX Motorsports was able to help crew for our Pikes Peak race car over a weekend of testing as we were getting ready to run in the 2021 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. For this episode we start out talking about our experiences testing on the mountain. Ryan made an observation that nearly every part that is on our Pikes Peak race car is also available for sale on our website. We discuss the build and this inspired a write-up on the blog that details every part currently on the car. We also have a good conversation about the cars that come to run up Pikes Peak and what drives Hill Climb culture in general. Thanks for listening and Stay Tuned!

And if you are reading this as it goes up, make sure that you tune in to the Mobil 1 Facebook page for the live stream of the 2021 Pikes Peak Hill Climb on Sunday June 27th! For episode #34 of the Flatirons Syndicate Motorsports Podcast, we start out talking about Ryan and Scotty's experience testing on the mountain, and then Ryan made the observation that nearly every part that is on our Pikes Peak race car is also on our web-site. We have a great discussion about the build, and this actually inspired me to write up a blog post (which is now up on our site) that goes into detail about all of the parts that are on the car currently. We also have a good conversation about the cars that come to run up Pikes Peak, and about what drives some of the Hill Climb culture in general as well. Thanks for listening and Stay Tuned!
For episode 30 of the Flatirons Syndicate Motorsport Podcast, we have Scott Crouch, Andy Kingsley, Dave Kern, Stephan Verdier, and Victor Kuhns joining Tasso and Jon to talk about the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. As we are getting ready for the 2021 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, we had the idea to reach out to a few fellow competitors that we have run this race with over the years to have a discussion about their experiences running the race, and what it is that makes Pikes Peak such a unique event. Through the years, Pikes Peak has been a race run on fully dirt roads, as part of an SCCA rally event broken up into stages, partly paved, and then as its current state where the road is now fully paved. This group of competitors has run the race in all of these forms, so they bring a great amount of perspective and experience to this conversation. We really enjoyed sitting down with everyone to record this episode, and it is full of great information and stories. Thanks for listening, and Stay Tuned!

Through 2020, Jeanette (Red Queen Racing) had started to work at Pikes Peak International Raceway, and one of the things that she organized there were some Women's driving clinics and track days in addition to the other events that were put on. There was a great response from these, and we wanted to bring Jeanette on to talk about what she was doing at PPIR, and about these events. In talking with Jeanette, we decided that we wanted to talk about them under the broader topic of the culture of Women in Motorsports. To help us with the discussion, Jeanette brought in Kaitlin and Alice who she has been driving with at some of her events, and we brought in Lea Croteau who has been an instructor in many driving clinics and the Bridgestone Winter Driving School, as well as co-driven with us at Rally Colorado, and the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. We had a great conversation and we may well have to have these guests back to talk about this part of driving and Motorsport again. Thanks for listening and Stay Tuned!
Scott Crouch is the driver of the Flatirons Tuning Pikes Peak WRX, and he also happens to be the driver of the Flatirons Tuning Rally car. For our thirteenth episode of the podcast, we sit down with Scott to talk about how our 2020 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb went, and what it was like to run this year with all of the changes. From there, we branch out into a good conversation with Scott and Tasso about how driving a rally car relates to driving on tarmac, and we also talk about how to get faster on track. Thanks very much for listening, and Stay Tuned!
This week begins with some sad news as three-time Indianapolis 500 winning driver Bobby Unser passed away late Sunday night after a lengthy illness at the age of 87. Upon reflecting on the life of this Indy 500 legend (who is also a 10-time Pikes Peak Hill Climb champion), a line from Dr. Seuss comes to mind: “Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.” Not only was Unser one of IndyCar racing's most legendary drivers, he was also one of its greatest personalities. He was fast and fearless on the track, and talkative and controversial outside of the car. He won 37 IndyCar Series races in both the United States Auto Club (USAC) and CART. He also won 52 poles in his career. His Indy 500 wins came in 1968, 1975 and 1981. Once his racing career was over, Unser became part of ABC's television crew that telecast the Indianapolis 500 and other IndyCar races on TV. His personality and bombastic style made him a fan favorite. The episode of Pit Pass Indy is entirely devoted to Unser as host Bruce Martin gives his highly personal reflections on a driver who was a hero as a youngster and became a close friend in life. Racing legend and 1969 Indianapolis 500 winner Mario Andretti, a friend with Unser for most of his career and one of his fiercest rivals, gives his thoughts on Unser. Also, four-time Indianapolis 500 winner Rick Mears pays tribute to his former teammate at Penske Racing. Instead of recapping the doubleheader action at Texas Motor Speedway this past weekend, those interviews will be part of next week's show on Pit Pass Indy. Learn more about your ad choices. Our special guest for show #037 of Torque and Chatter is motorcycle content producer and racer, Rennie Scaysbrook. Scaysbrook is a name that has been an integral part of the motorcycling community for decades. For Rennie, he was born into a family that not only had a passion for bikes, they also loved to write about them. In this show we speak about Rennie's early journalism career, and his current role as the Road Test Editor for Cycle News in the USA. We discuss the journey of how he became the motorcycle record holder for the famed Pikes Peak Hill Climb, and his aspirations to compete in the TT. Being able to chat with Rennie is like catching up with a mate you've known forever. One that the Motorcycle Industry is very lucky to have. Sit back and enjoy the ride. *Sorry in advance for the audio quality on this one. We had a storm pass over that sent a frequency through the microphone that we could not cut out. Take one 1949 Ford F1 pickup truck. Add a full-tube race chassis, a raced prepped Cummins diesel with compound turbochargers, and an insane builder/racer named Scotty Birdsall. Do that, and maybe, just maybe, you too could set a world record at the Pikes Peak Hill Climb and in the process best one of the oldest, and most well-respected automakers the world has ever seen. Scott Birdsall of Chuckles Garage in Santa Rosa, California created “Old Smokey” out of a farm truck which he purchased for a mere $250.00. Initially slated to be a parts hauler for his shop, the old F1 quickly escalated into one of the coolest diesel-powered vehicles ever created. Old Smokey however isn’t Scotty’s first foray into the world of mechanized awesomeness though. Some may remember Strange Bird, the 1962 Ford Falcon Gasser that was powered by a supercharged 401 Buick Nailhead. Or Brutus, the BMY Harsco M931A2 6x6 5-ton tractor. Either way it doesn’t much matter as this week on the Hot Rod BBQ, we’ve got him, and he’s here to tell us not only about his new world record, but how he got into this business, how he loathes the corporate world, and what’s next in his pursuit of flat-out speed. We’ve also got a wicked 1965 Volvo P1800 racer that we pulled from the Hemmings classifieds in honor of our special guest because, it looks like something he’d get a kick out of!
Robby Unser learned to drive at 7 and he’s been racing ever since. Robby shares what it’s like to race full-time from high school to the present, how he got sponsored, being a one-man racing team, and all the people who helped him along the way. We cover the Indy 500, the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, Team Speedway, meeting big names like Sammy Swindell...and so much more on Ep. 6 of What Moves You.

Greg “GT” Tracy is one of the leading stunt drivers in the motion picture and commercial industry. GT recently worked as Matt Damon's stunt double in the movie “Ford v. Ferrari”. Some of his other credits include: “Black Panther”, “Hobbes and Shaw”, “Fast and Furious” 3, 5, and 9, “Talladega Nights”, and “Dukes of Hazzard”. GT also worked on the Bourne Ultimatum, for which he won a World Stunt Award. GT is constantly pushing the envelope of risk vs. reward. He has raced the Pikes Peak Hill Climb 19 times, winning America's second oldest race 7 times. GT is the only person to break the infamous 10-minute barrier at Pikes Peak on both a motorcycle (in 2012 with Team Ducati) and car (in 2015 with Team Mitsubishi). In 2012, he was awarded a Guinness World Record for driving a life-sized Hot Wheels car through a 7-story loop at the X Games. He has previously won the Baja 1000 and has completed close to 10,000 miles racing in Baja.

This week on our motorcycle podcast we start the show out with the bad news, and bring it back up all the way to the end. Sadly racer Carlen Dunne has crashed and died while setting a new record at Pikes Peak Hill Climb. This is a huge loss for the world. Also, one of our own was in a freak motorcycle accident, and we send our best wishes to his long recovery. Now lets take it back up. Oh wait, not quite done. Liza and Jim went on an epic ride and managed to kill 1 ground squirrel apiece. Condolences to the squirrels families as well. Okay, now we can take it back up. Mikey 3 Times bought a new bike that he's going to customize and hopefully become Mikey 4 Times. Austin from Twistedroad.com has joined us to share all the updates and improvements that have been made since his last visit. Now you can find more bikes than ever in almost all the states (NY, what's thee deal?) and you can get better insurance to make sure you are well covered. Check it out at www.Twistedroad.com Zee has started a new group called Bunkabiker, where you can list or find places for fellow bikers to crash for the night (maybe crash is a bad choice for words for the biker community) Lastly we finish with listener emails and go 3 for 3 in answering them. Congrats to Wendy Crockett for being this year's Iron Butt Rally winner! Stay to the very end to hear our interview with Carlin Dunne from last year's Moto Bay Classic. With Liza, Sara, Miss Emma, Austin, Zee, Naked Jim and Mikey 3 (soon to be 4) Times. Tech entrepreneur, founder and CEO of GOPuck, and electric racing pioneer Blake Fuller, proved on July 1st 2016, that the Tesla zero emission four-door is capable of matching its fuel guzzling counterparts on the track. He smashed the Pikes Peak Hill Climb record by more than a minute. It’s a historic 12.42 mile challenge that features 156 turns a huge climb of just more than 14,000 feet before drivers reach the snow-covered summit. Blake Fuller had won the race before in a gas guzzler. But Blake, who helped build the first hybrid race car in North America, and has also designed the lithium ion technology used in every motorsports category from IndyCar to F1, set a new production electric vehicle record of 11 minutes 48 seconds. He did his first test drive in his modified Tesla Model S at Sonoma Raceway. Sonoma Raceway Steve Page talks about that record-setting test drive and ideas for potential racing opportunities for Tesla’s in the NASCAR circuit and beyond. Also, the Director of Performance for the winningest team of the Daytona 500, Joe Gibbs Racing, talks about the secrets to getting the drivers and pit crew to reach peak performance including mindset. Michael Lepp has a few tricks up his sleeve and takes advantage of the latest in innovation to monitor not only the typical heartrate, but also sleep, and more to train the ultimate athletes in the sport of NASCAR.
