American big tent conservative party

For years, hopeful reformers have touted the promise of third parties as an antidote to our political polarization. But when so many of the issues that voters care about most — like abortion, or climate change, or guns — are also the most divisive, can any third party actually bring voters together under a big tent? Or will it just fracture the electorate further?Today's guests say it's worth it to try. Andrew Yang and David Jolly are two of the co-founders of the Forward Party, a new political party focused on advancing election reform measures, including open primaries, independent redistricting commissions in every state and the widespread adoption of ranked choice voting. Yang is a former Democratic candidate for president and a former Democratic candidate for mayor of New York City. Jolly is a former Republican congressman and executive chairman of the Serve America Movement. Together, they joined Jane Coaston live onstage at the Texas Tribune Festival to discuss why they've built a party and not a nonprofit, what kinds of candidates they want to see run under their banner and what Democrats are getting wrong in their midterm strategy right now.(A full transcript of the episode will be available midday on the Times website.)
David Jolly, former Republican US Congressman (R-13th, Florida), executive chairman Serve America Movement, political analyst, TV commentator, radio host, public speaker, and author, on the chasmic political divide in the US right now, a little on how we got this far apart, how it led to Jan. 6, and we'll discuss solutions; Cong. Jolly and others are involved in a new, unifying political party called ‘Forward.' He talkED about how the country wants and demands solutions from our divided leaders, and how we can all be part of moving the country forward. During open phones, we discussed how Pres. Trump was the right president at the right time, who did it better; Trump or Biden, the Mara a Lago search, and the lie that IRS agents have a mandatory gun carry policy.

Are you tired of the gridlock which exists in Washington? Do you view the partisan politics as a hindrance to true progress affecting a whole network of intersecting issues effecting your life? If so, then you may strongly consider the work of the Serve America Movement to be essentially important. SAM is a new political party for the many of Americans who are tired of choosing between the lesser of two evils. There comprised of people who've been betrayed by their tribes and are brave enough to build something better. Zach Colby is the Director of Operations at SAM - Serve America Movement, Inc. He joined me this week to discuss the mission of the movement in greater detail. Twitter: @samforus Facebook @joinsam.org For more information https://joinsam.org/
On this episode of Toppling the Duopoly, host Shawn Griffiths is joined by former US Rep David Jolly to discuss his party, the Serve America Movement. The SAM Party is a unique political organization as it is founded not on a single ideology, but a celebration of diverse ideologies. It is a party that brings people together who are committed to one agenda: To serve and be accountable to the communities being represented. Jolly discusses what sets SAM apart from other political parties, both major and minor, and how his party can meet the growing desire among voters to see a viable third option emerge in the US political landscape. Gallup recently found that 62% of US voters believe the GOP and Democratic Party are doing such a bad job that a third party is needed. However, the system has been designed explicitly to prevent competition from emerging to challenge the two major parties, and many third parties, Jolly says, have to this point replicated a major failure point of the parties in power. Is the SAM model what Americans are looking for in a new party -- especially as Americans are increasingly rejecting strict partisanship in elections and want public officials to work together, across ideological and party lines to put country first? Listen to the episode and decide for yourself. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/toppling-the-duopoly/support

We're in the home stretch now for the 2018 midterm season. Here in California, voters have been asked to answer some pretty big questions for the state--from how to deal with the soaring cost of living to how to best address the state's education achievement gap. And, to meet those big questions, we've also seen some big spending and heated campaigning. With just a few days left now before it all comes to a close, we examine the election on this weekend's In Depth with guest host Keith Menconi, joined by two experts in politics: Reed Galen, a political consultant who has worked on high profile national and state political campaigns and chief strategist of the Serve America Movement and Michael Semler, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus in the Political Science Department of California State University, Sacramento. What are these two experts anxious to see on Tuesday? "I think what will be interesting to see is California is always sort of a blue wave, it's been dominated by Democrats in its politics for years. And so whether or not the supposed enthusiasm that Democrats are showing elsewhere leads to enthusiasm on the left in California, given that you know you have a governor's race where it looks like Gavin Newsom's going to win, two Democrats running in the United States Senate race, and local hotly contested congressional races," opined Galen. "So, that's what I'm looking for, whether or not you know the measures and the candidates that are really on the left are a beneficiary of what seems to be a national movement." "I'd second what Reed is examining," added Semler. "Because what's happening in California is really a reflection of what's happening in the United States. This looks like it could be a national campaign and referendum on Donald Trump and the question is how far does that extend and whether it really exists here in California, whether there is an enthusiasm gap or division between what we see in polls and what actually happens on election day."
Reed Galen, independent political consultant and chief strategist for SAM, the Serve America Movement, talks about how current events are driving interest in finding an alternative to the Republican and Democratic parties. With an eye on the changes that can be influenced at the state and local level, SAM is getting candidates on the ballot and building state parties to raise money and build awareness about 2019 and 2020 opportunities. @reedgalen Join SAM

“The angrier the electorate, the less capable we are of finding common ground on policies, or even of treating our opponents like human beings," a political scientist wrote recently. Reed Galen is trying to start a new political party that is built on the belief that American politics has to restore the dignity of every person as one of its foundational principles. Reed is the chief strategist for the Serve America Movement, an organization started in 2016, which is building organizing infrastructure in a handful of states this year with the goal of being ready to spring into action if a legitimate independent candidate for president runs in 2020. We talked about the group's origins and its plans for 2018 and 2020. Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/thelonggame. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Reed Galen, owner, Jedburghs and Chief Strategist SAM- Serve America Movement talks about his efforts to create a new political party. With deep experience in national, state and local political and advocacy campaigns, Reed and his team have recognized the challenges and potential for an alternative to the Democratic and Republican parties. Ballot access, gerrymandering and sore loser laws are only some of the obstacles to overcome. While some voters are happy to be considered Independent, it seems that most voters prefer some party affiliation when making voting choices. What happens when the existing choices no longer fit? @reedgalen @SAMforUS SAM - Serve America Movement Jedburghs.com
One of the looming legislative battles of 2018 will be major entitlement reform. While Speaker of the House Paul Ryan will be looking to launch right into this when Congress gets back into town, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is much more hesitant. Several issues, including funding for natural disaster relief, will also spill over from the end of this year. Reed Galen, chief strategist of the Serve America Movement, gives his outlook on what should be a bruising battle on entitlement reform. Michael and Rick discuss the potential for a wave election in the 2018 midterms.
This past weekend, Nikki Haley, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, weighed in on the sexual misconduct allegations against President Trump, saying , “I think any woman who has felt violated or felt mistreated in any way, they have every right to speak up.” The president and his administration has continued to deny the validity of the claims made by 16 women. 'Today' host Megyn Kelly spoke with three of President Trump’s accusers on her show, giving the women a platform in our nation's ongoing dialogue on sexual misconduct. Reed Galen, chief strategist for the Serve America Movement, joined Rick Ungar to discuss the potential political implications of this story staying in the news. Former New York City Police Commissioner Bernie Kerik shared his thoughts on the rulings in two police shooting cases and the attempted Times Square terror attack.
One year after the election of Donald Trump, American democracy is under threat. Our civic life is in a shambles. Our guest, Reed Galen, says America is a “dual-civilization society,” with each side viewing the other with suspicion, disgust and disdain. The guardrails of democracy are banged up. Some dents were made years ago — the result of dysfunction In Washington D.C. Others are the result of the President’s sustained attacks on Congress, the judiciary and a free press. In this episode we look at ways to narrow the gap — from non-partisan redistricting commissions and curbs on gerrymandering, to encouraging more independents to run for office.Political strategist Reed Galen was deputy campaign manager for Senator John McCain's Presidential campaign and worked in the George W. Bush White House. Earlier this year, Reed left the Republican Party and is now Chief Strategist at Serve America Movement. He works actively to narrow the great political divide and boost citizen involvement in civic life.
