Though the Biden Administration had planned to lift Title 42, the Trump-era policy that limited the flow of migrants into the US as a COVID-19 precaution, the Supreme Court ruled on Tuesday that the order must remain in place until arguments are heard in February. This comes after multiple Republican lawmakers voiced concerns that the southern border would become severely overwhelmed in the absence of Title 42, as the US recorded a record-high number of migrant crossings in fiscal year 2022 despite the policy being in place. Now, all eyes are on Congress to pass legislation to prepare the border for the eventual removal of Title 42, which could happen in just two months. On the Rundown, Former Chief of US Border Patrol and retired acting ICE director Ronald Vitiello joins to discuss his thoughts on why the US has seen a massive border surge despite current policies in place, how Congress should act to prepare for the eventual lift of Title 42, and why the Biden Administration's current plans for the border are 'the worst prescription they could have come up with.'   The drug fentanyl has become one of the leading causes of death for American adults and now this overdose crisis is impacting adolescents as well. In 2021, one study found that 77 percent of all teen overdose deaths were due to fentanyl, with many of these teens seeking pills that have unknowingly been laced with fentanyl. Today, we look back at Alex Hogan's conversation with Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody when she joined the Rundown to explain how an insecure southern border is driving the rise in fentanyl overdoses. She also discussed the importance of parents educating themselves and having conversations with their children about the dangers of fentanyl.   Plus, commentary from Karoline Leavitt, Former Republican nominee for Congress in New Hampshire's 1st Congressional District. Former Republican governor of Maryland Robert Ehrlich today joined The Two Mikes to discuss prospects for the midterm elections. In Maryland, he said that the Republicans were "competitive" in three of the state's congressional seats, and several county-executive races. He said the governorship is still a fight, but the Democrat candidate is flush with cash. Nationally, Governor Ehrlich said that he expected something of a red tide for the Republicans, especially after Dr. Oz wiped the floor in the debate with his Democratic opponent in Pennsylvania. He also expected that the Republicans would take the House and gain several governorship pick-ups. That said, he warned that the Republican vote must turn out in massive numbers, and that they appear likely to be joined by significant numbers of dissatisfied Democratic voters and independents. He also warned that other unexpected events may unfold before and on election day as all governing elites in the United States -- political, economic, social, academic, etc. -- are still reeling from the inconvenient and disruptive impact of Trump's extremely successful presidency and will fight to the death to try to prevent a positive environment for his run in 2024. On election day, he said, much will depend on the votes of the women who have been enraged by the Democrats' unrelenting attacks on young children with their efforts to make sexual deviancy another state of "normal", as well as their repeated declarations that the government and its teachers, and not parents, are the proper entities to raise children. The former Obama strategist and the Lincoln Project co-founder discuss upcoming midterm elections and the 2024 presidential race. The revelation that the U.S. Supreme Court may very well overturn Roe v. Wade this summer turned up the heat on what was already a period of intense partisan division in the United States. With continued fallout from the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection and the upcoming midterm elections, there is little indication that Democrats and Republicans will come together any time soon.  Still, while partisan rancor may pose a threat to American democracy, politicians in both parties are leveraging it in their own attempts to build support, raise money and get things done.  Former Republican strategist Rick Wilson and former presidential adviser Robert Gibbs are both familiar with the calculus involved in turning partisanship into political gain. But they are also aware of the threats that severe partisanship can bring.  For this episode of the Crosscut Talks podcast, the two political strategists discuss the fight for Congress in 2022 and the White House, detail missteps in their own parties that helped create the current landscape and consider why some Americans may prefer authoritarianism to democracy. --- Credits Host: Mark Baumgarten Producer: Sara Bernard Event producers: Jake Newman, Andrea O'Meara Engineers: Resti Bagcal, Viktoria Ralph
