People put a lot of stock into a first impression. You can never make a second one, but as observers, we shouldn't be so quick to file the initial impression as the final one. There are lessons in this one that you can apply to just about every interaction you have and a realization that the most lasting impression, regardless of when it happens, can be the most important. In this episode, I speak with Carol Cox, founder and CEO of Speaking Your Brand. Carol is a powerhouse when it comes to helping entrepreneurs and professionals create impactful presentations and thought leadership platforms. We discuss the concept of the "Expert Trap" and how it affects public speakers and entrepreneurs alike. Carol shares valuable insights on overcoming self-doubt, perfectionism, and imposter syndrome to truly connect with your audience. Key Takeaways: Avoiding the Expert Trap: Don't feel the need to pack every fact and detail into your talk. Focus on what transformation your audience needs and weave personal stories to make your message relatable. Emotional Resonance: The stories you are most reluctant to share often have the greatest impact. Make sure your story includes specific details and emotional elements to deeply connect with your audience. Overcoming Perfectionism: Strategies such as finding a trusted person to discuss your ideas, accepting nerves as part of the process, and even getting involved in supportive communities can make a big difference. More about Carol: Carol Cox is the founder and CEO of Speaking Your Brand®, a coaching and training company that works with high-performing, purpose-driven women entrepreneurs and professionals to create their signature talks and thought leadership platforms. In this episode, I share my transformative journey of creating and growing multiple businesses and income streams while embracing the idea of "Doubt Yourself Do It Anyway™." From battling imposter syndrome to hosting international summits, creating multiple podcasts, writing a book, and more, my entrepreneurial path has been filled with twists and turns. Here are three key takeaways: Embrace the Unknown: Taking risks, despite the feelings of uncertainty, allows us to grow, learn, and prepare for even bigger leaps in the future. Use these decisions to help build confidence and experience. Acknowledge and Navigate Self-Doubt: Perfectionism, imposter syndrome, and self-doubt are normal and often persistent. Instead of letting them hold you back, acknowledge their presence, find your purpose, and keep moving forward. Celebrate Small Wins and Plan for the Future: Reflect on past accomplishments to fuel future ambitions. Planning and adjusting your goals based on what energizes you and honors your sensory needs can lead to sustained success with less burnout. If you're navigating your own entrepreneurial journey, I encourage you to consider the resources and experiences that I and other experts in the mental health entrepreneurial space have created for individuals like you. Giftedness is paired with a unique cognitive and emotional makeup accompanied by many societal misconceptions. Many individuals find themselves grappling with high expectations, internalized stigma, and a constant quest for intellectual stimulation, often reconciling feelings of exceptional capability with misunderstood struggles. In this episode, Patrick Casale and Dr. Megan Anna Neff, two AuDHD mental health professionals, and Katy Higgins Lee, a multiply neurodivergent therapist, discuss the nuanced world of giftedness, including the intersection of giftedness, neurodivergence, and the emotional landscape that comes with it. Top 3 reasons to listen to the entire episode: Understand the trauma that can arise from being labeled as gifted, and how societal misunderstandings and high expectations can lead to negative perceptions and unresolved emotional struggles. Explore the concept of "overexcitabilities" from the theory of positive disintegration and how recognizing these heightened sensitivities can aid in self-care and managing intellectual and sensory needs for a balanced life. Discover practical approaches and supportive communities that help twice exceptional (2e) individuals navigate their unique challenges, providing a sense of belonging and validation. As you reflect on your unique journey or that of someone you care about, consider the nuances that shape your experiences and needs. Understanding and embracing these can open doors to self-acceptance and fulfilling connections. Balancing vulnerability and authenticity can be challenging, but also deeply rewarding. In this episode, Patrick Casale and Dr. Megan Anna Neff, two AuDHD mental health professionals, talk with Samuel Silverman, a psychiatrist and stand-up comedian diagnosed with OCD and ADHD, about the intersection of comedy, mental health, and the digital age. Top 3 reasons to listen to the entire episode: Gain insights into how the blend of personal vulnerability and social critique in comedy helps individuals connect with their audience and understand their own mental health experiences more deeply. Hear Samuel Silverman's unique perspective on balancing a career in psychiatry with a presence on comedy stages and in social media, including the ethical boundaries he maintains while advocating for mental health awareness. Discover practical advice on recognizing and managing OCD, understanding its pervasive nature of doubt, and learning how self-expression can be a cathartic way to handle internal struggles. As you reflect on this conversation, consider how your own experiences and challenges might be transformed through creative expression and connection. Remember that sharing your journey, setting healthy boundaries, and advocating for understanding can be powerful tools in the mental health landscape. Note from Samuel: I was raised in a progressive Jewish family in Baltimore, MD. I went to the same small progressive school that my mother and aunt attended — my grandmother actually taught there while the two of them were in school, and my mother later taught there while my brother and I attended. When I was 18, I traveled halfway across the country to attend Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. There I met my wife, Kelley Stevens, better known as “The Private Practice Pro.” I attended medical school at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed my psychiatry residency training at Loma Linda University. As I was completing my residency, I began to explore the world of stand-up comedy, and started performing throughout Southern California before traveling to other parts of the country to tell jokes, when I'm not too busy seeing patients. I myself have diagnoses of both OCD and ADHD. More than anything, OCD has colored so much of my experience. Because of this, my symptoms and struggles with this condition provide much of the material for my comedy. Instagram: @samsilvermancomedy ————————————————————————————————

The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (09/30/2024): 3:05pm- 45,000 Dockworkers Are Set to Go On Strike at Midnight. Paul Berger of The Wall Street Journal reports: “Dockworkers are preparing to strike at midnight across dozens of ports from Maine to Texas, threatening to block the movement of a swath of U.S. trade and rattle the American economy five weeks ahead of the presidential election. Trade groups representing hundreds of retailers and manufacturers from Walmart and Target to Caterpillar and General Motors have appealed to the Biden administration to intervene, warning a shutdown could hobble businesses and trigger renewed inflation during the busy holiday shopping season.” You can read the full article here: https://www.wsj.com/articles/dockworkers-union-strike-shipping-economy-81301038 3:15pm- What impact will a potential International Longshoremen's Association strike have on the presidential election? 3:35pm- It's only hour one into Monday's show and things have already gone off the rails. YouTube has blocked Friday's video stream—presumably due to music copyright issues. Rich yells at Matt, Justin, and Kirk for not being able to fix it. 3:50pm- On Meet the Press, NBC News National Political Correspondent Steve Kornacki revealed polling data which shows that although Hispanic voters preferred Democrats by a 44% margin in 2012, that gap has shrunk to 14% in 2024. With Hispanic men, Trump and Harris are tied—and with Hispanic men under 50 years-old, Trump leads by 9. Of the issues most important to Hispanic voters (economics, border, and inflation), Trump leads on all three. 4:05pm- Alina Clough—Fellow at ConservAmerica—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss her latest article for National Review, “The Real Three Mile Island Disaster Was Shutting It Down.” You can read the full article here: https://www.nationalreview.com/2024/09/the-real-three-mile-island-disaster-was-shutting-it-down/ 4:20pm- On Monday, Donald Trump visited Valdosta, Georgia—supporting those impacted by Hurricane Helene. While speaking to the press, Trump said: “our country is in the final weeks of a hard-fought national election. But in a time like this—when a crisis hits, when our fellow citizens cry out in need—none of that matters. We're not talking about politics now. We have to all get together and get this solved.” 4:30pm- Elizabeth Pipko—Spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to preview tomorrow night's Vice-Presidential Debate between Senator J.D. Vance and Governor Tim Walz. Over the weekend, Vance was denied entry into a Primanti Brothers sandwich shop in Pennsylvania. In response to the shop's concern, Vance told the crowd: “Don't hold it against her. She just got a little nervous but it's a great local business. Let's keep supporting it.” Plus, Pipko reacts to being mentioned in Newsweek's bizarre article, “How Hot Girls Became the Right's New Obsession.” Pipko is a former model, a 2016 Trump campaign staffer, and author of the book, “Finding My Place: Making My Parents' American Dream Come True.” 5:00pm- Tim Murtaugh—Columnist for The Washington Times & Senior Advisor to the Trump 2024 Campaign—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss the Trump-Vance campaign in Pennsylvania. Plus, does anyone actually believe Kamala Harris will be a defender of Second Amendment rights? Murtaugh points out that until it became politically inconvenient, Harris had been a vocal proponent of mandatory gun buy backs—and for allowing government officials to enter the home of law-abiding gun owners to ensure their guns are being stored properly. 5:20pm- Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris appeared on the “All the Smoke” podcast with former NBA players Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson and was asked about her economic plans. Even in a laid back interview Harris was unable to answer the question directly and was forced into rambling endlessly. 5:30pm- Is Saturday Night Live funny again? Andy Samberg hila ...
