In this week's Reagan Forum podcast we go back one week to May 27, 2021 for our in-person event with former Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, who was the Foundation's first speaker in its new Time for Choosing Speaker Series, a new forum for leading voices in the conservative movement to address critical questions facing the future of the Republican Party. Upon launching the Time for Series Speaker Series, Paul Ryan said, “It is a great honor to kick off the Time for Choosing series. I look forward to addressing these fundamental and timely questions, but more importantly, I am eager to hear how other Republican and conservative leaders, each with their own convictions and priorities, address the same questions. I am confident that our substantive, reasoned dialogue will do a service to the legacy of President Reagan and the party he once led.” Let's listen.
Former Speaker of the House Paul Ryan used his speech at the Reagan Library to further isolate himself from conservative voters by warning the GOP against following the leadership of Donald Trump.

More than a year ago, on January 29, 2020, Real Science Radio's interview of Kevin Anderson of the Van Andel research center may have been the world's first full-program broadcast interview with a molecular biologist on the coronavirus outbreak. Today, Bob Enyart and CRS' Dr. Anderson update their reporting on the covid to include discussion of RNA, an RNA vaccine, and vaccines morally tainted by testing or manufacturing with tissue from aborted babies. * How Close Is Too Close: When considering commercial or medical activity morally stained by a relationship with the killing of unborn children, how close is too close? Toward answering that question, consider this letter that Bob Enyart wrote to someone critizing Colorado Right To Life for accepting donations via PayPal... Hi Christine! Thanks so much for writing and for your love for the innocent! We encourage you in your boycott of PayPal. Hopefully it will make a difference! Sadly, in so many ways, most major companies, especially the tech companies and national brands, provide enormous support for the abortion industry. Firms with direct connections to financially supporting Planned Parenthood include Verizon, T-mobile, United Airlines (which here in Denver even helped PP purchase their mega-abortion mill), Adobe, American Express, Bank of America, Bath & Body Works, Ben & Jerry's (as in Pelosi's freezer), Boeing (with their 737s that we all fly), Clorox, Converse, Dockers, Energizer, Expedia, ExxonMobil, Fannie Mae, Groupon, Intuit (accounting software, Quicken/Mint/Quick Books), Johnson & Johnson (Tylenol, Motrin, Zyrtec, Benadryl, BENGAY, Imodium, Pepcid, Sudafed, Listerine, Band-Aid, Neosporin, Polysporin, Caladryl, Baby Powder, Desitin, Stayfree, Mylanta), Levi Strauss, Liberty Mutual, Macy's, March of Dimes, Microsoft, Morgan Stanley, Nike, Oracle, Pepsi (who performed their own aborted fetal tissue taste-test research until we helped stop them), Pfizer, Progressive Insurance, Starbucks, Susan G. Komen (which we fight to expose), Tostitos, Unilever (Lipton, Vaseline, Brut, Hellman's Mayonnaise, Comfort, Dove soaps), United Way, and Wells Fargo. Many more businesses financially support abortion, directly and indirectly, including billions of dollars worth of "in kind" donations such as Sprint and AT&T. Another example of helping Planned Parenthood, from this very weekend, is Amazon (Bezos/Washington Post) kicking Parler off its servers, Parler being a prolife-friendly free speech platform in competition with Twitter which is overwhelmingly editorially and otherwise pro-abortion). The businesses that provide enormous support worth far more even than the dollars the abortionists get from the above companies, include Facebook, Twitter, Direct TV, and Dish. Also, the companies that financially support efforts which are primarily pro-abortion, for example, those that fund the nothing-if-not-pro-abortion "Womens Marches" around the nation, include Adobe, Aetna, Allstate, Autozone, Avon, Bank of America, Blue Cross Blue Shield, BP (British Petroleum gasoline), Charles Schwab, Craigslist, Deutsche Bank, Freddie Mac, Frito Lay, General Electric (their appliance division was purchased by China's Haier in 2016 with the rights to use the "GE" brand name for forty years), Jiffy Lube, JPMorgan Chase, Kaiser Permanente, Kraft Heinz, March of Dimes, Monsanto, Nike, Oracle (with their PeopleSoft and Sun Microsystems), PayPal, Prudential, Qualcomm, Shell Oil, and US Bank. Some companies go even further, like Walmart. Not only is their corporate policy pro-abortion, but they actually are abortionists themselves. They effectively perform abortions, with Walmart itself having killed hundreds of thousands of unborn children by selling in their stores the abortifacient Morning After Pill. Of course when you look at the actual support for abortion, financial support and the even greater "in-kind" support, it crosses not only the entire economy but also the major political parties. For example, as you can see documented at kgov.com/funding, the Republican Prescott Bush was the treasurer for and a board member with Margaret Sanger of national Planned Parenthood and his son president George H. W. Bush began "Family Planning" Title X funding, the conduit used to send billions to Planned Parenthood. Prescott's grandson, president George W. Bush, hailed as a hero by the "pro-life industry", in his eight years gave to Planned Parenthood a billion dollars more than Bill Clinton had given them even though for half his presidency Bush had the trifecta of a Republican White House, Republican Congress and a Republican Supreme Court. (Of course Jeb Bush was a director of the Bloomberg Family Foundation that gave tens of millions of dollars to Planned Parenthood, but the pro-life leaders who supported him for president didn't seem to care much about that.) You may recall that Republican Speaker of the House Paul Ryan said abortionists should not get one red cent. He then fought for a budget that fully funded Planned Parenthood in his pro-Obama, pro-Democrat 2016 budget. Then Republican President Donald Trump (with a Republican Congress), who could have fought against abortion funding the way he fought for funding for the wall, could have refused to sign any legislation that gave even a single dollar to Planned Parenthood. Instead, by his signature, he gave a billion dollars to the abortion firm authorizing for his first years in office funding of Planned Parenthood at Obama levels. (Before pro-lifers knee-jerk defend Trump signing those spending bills, which by comparison makes PayPal's donations to Planned Parenthood insignificant, they should consider how to defund ISIS. Step One: Don't give them a billion dollars.) Christine, the corporations listed above supporting abortion could be multiplied, without exaggeration, by a thousand. Regarding the admirable goal of not supporting companies that support evil (and especially, abortion), the Apostle Paul put efforts like that in perspective when the Holy Spirit inspired him to write in the Bible, "then you would need to go out of the world" (1 Cor. 5:10). But again, thank you, and we do encourage you in your boycott of PayPal, even to not donating to Colorado RTL, and we hope your effort makes a difference! In Christ, Bob Enyart Director, CRTL

Shaquille O’Neal has one, as does Serena Williams and former Speaker of the House Paul Ryan. What exactly are SPACs, the investment trend that’s grown popular among the wealthiest Americans during the pandemic? SPACs— or special-purpose acquisition companies— are shells of companies whose purpose is to find a private company to buy and take public quickly. The result, at least ideally, is a huge payday for everyone involved. They are sometimes referred to as “blank check companies” because investors put up the money before an acquisition target is identified. Some in the finance world are concerned that the SPAC boom could be a bubble that is heading toward bursting. So what are SPACs, what should you know about them, and where might this new trend be headed? We’re learning more on AirTalk. Comment below or call us with questions at 866-893-5722. Pod Save America's Dan Pfeiffer says it's not just enough for Democrats to defeat Donald Trump in 2020, but they have to defeat Trumpism in the long-run. He recalls witnessing some of the early signs of Trumpism when he was White House Communications Director under President Obama, and he explains how the Democratic party was allowed to collapse during the Obama years. Dan believes that voter expansion is the key to Democrats victory in 2020 and beyond, he suggests a host of ideas to grow the voter rolls from granting statehood to the District of Columbia to enfranchising 16 year-olds, and he offers proposals for how make the Presidency more resilient against corruption and abuse of power in the future. He talks about the resurgence of Joe Biden’s campaign, whether Bernie still has a shot at the nomination, and what we can learn from the failed campaign of Michael Bloomberg. Plus Dan reveals the right wing media organization that he says is more dangerous than Breitbart and bigger than Fox News, the person Dan calls the worst person in American politics (hint: it’s not Donald Trump), and he let’s loose on his favorite punching bag - former Speaker of the House Paul Ryan. Fly on the Wall is back for Season 6! Today we are interviewing Jonathan Burks, a GU Politics Fall 2019 Fellow and former chief of staff to Speaker of the House Paul Ryan.
On today's show we take a deep dive into the press conference "The Squad" held Monday, where the "Gang of Four" progressives attacked the president as a racist while simultaneously attacking the U.S. as a horrible place. We also look at how the establishment liberal media reported and repeated their smears without question. We discuss how these members of Congress managed to demand everyone be treated equally while claiming victim status for President Donald Trump doing just that. Last week, President Donald Trump responded to attacks by former Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and soon-to-be former British Ambassador to the U.S. Sir Kim Darroch by attacking them right back. Both men are white. But to watch the liberal media in the last 24 hours, you'd think the president is only ever critical of "women of color." "The Squad," as they like to call themselves, held a press conference where each of them — Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Pressley, Ilhan Omar, and Rashida Tlaib — took turns painting themselves as victims over tweets the president sent over the weekend. They also took swipes at the president for a laundry list of progressive policy grievances. They played the race card, essentially declaring criticism of them to be based on race not their bad ideas. We have the audio and rip it all apart, calling them out for their hypocrisy and racism. You have to hear it all to believe it.
One of the most influential novelists in the United States is the late Ayn Rand. The Russian-born author's works inspired generations of right-leaning intellectuals, from former Federal Reserve chairman Alan Greenspan to former Republican Speaker of the House Paul Ryan.Rand's popularity stems from her simple creed that selfishness is a virtue. In her philosophy, called Objectivism, the highest moral calling is to pursue your rational self-interest. This puts Objectivism in a unique corner, as most of the world's schools of moral philosophy and religion preach that selflessness and self-sacrifice are the most noble qualities. But Rands philosophy has sustained its following long after her death in 1982. In 2009, in the aftermath of a financial crisis many blamed on the selfishness of Wall Street, her novel Atlas Shrugged, which preaches the virtues of the self interested titans of industry, surged to a bestseller position on Amazon.com.What makes Rand so popular? And is there any merit to her praise of selfishness as a virtue? To discuss that question we have two guests with us on this episode. Onkar Ghate is the chief philosophy officer at the Ayn Rand Institute and a leading Objectivist. He believes this philosophy is not only relevant but ultimately a guide for living a moral life. Austin Hayden Smidt is a political philosopher who cohosts the philosophy podcast Owls At Dawn. He's skeptical of Objectivism's claims, and believes that altruism is worth fighting for. On this episode we will discuss core philosophical issues that help drive our approach to politics, life, the universe, and everything. Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/extremelyoffline)
If you have ever question the validity of astrology before, I can tell you that in this episode when I look at Donald Trump's chart and how it connects to the chart of America it's no accident. America was in a huge cycle of change before the election and Donald Trump is the catalyst that brings every flaw of our system to the surface. When we look at Astrological Charts, it's really important to think about how the person is utilizing their gifts. I approach discussing Donald Trump's chart and the chart of America this way, since I don't know Donald Trump and I've never had a session with him. I did a lot of research and I pulled different clips from the media that just illustrate what I'm observing in terms of Donald Trump’s Astrology. Trump was born a Gemini and his Sun is in the 10th house which means he loves being in the public and with his Sun is also conjunct (with) the planet Uranus which is about being a maverick or revolutionary that's unpredictable. The planet Uranus also connects to broadcasting and a wider audience so right away we know this is a guy that enjoys being in the public light. He also has Leo Rising with the planet Mars there which means he loves to be noticed. He wants to be admired, thrives on competition and he also loves to win. Example: Opening Sound Track “the Apprentice” He enjoys not following the rules and his personality likes to rev people up and get a reaction. Megan Kelly & Trump interview clip: “One of the things people love about you is you speak your mind and you don't use a politician's filter. However that is not without its downsides. In particular when it comes to women You've called women you don't like fat pigs dogs and bees fast and disgusting animals.” Trump replies, “Only Rosie O'Donnell.” Donald Trump's chart is definitely not designed for an inherent sensitivity towards others. He's driven to do things that make him feel good and gets him what he wants. Donald Trump sound bite on Political Correctness: “ I think the big problem this country has is being politically correct. I've been. I've been challenged by so many people and I don't frankly have time for total political correctness. And to be honest with you this country doesn't have time either” in his case the planet Mercury is in Cancer which makes him very sensitive and impressionable. He doesn't overthink his answers, he more responds with his feelings and is likely to be unclear with others and is susceptible to deception. I'm not just saying that because he uses the line fake news a lot. He is wired to look at things in a way that supports what he believes to be true. In this interview with Matt Lauer, you can hear Trump take a position on an issue, and change it to suit himself. Matt Lauer says, “But the things you've said about President Obama and that he is not doing so well and yet when referring to a comment that Putin made about you, I think he called you, “a brilliant leader.” You said it's always a great honor to be so nicely complimented by a man so highly respected within his country and beyond.” Trump responded, “Well he does have an 82 percent approval rating according to the different pollsters. “ The reason I'm putting these clips in is so that you can actually hear how Trump is using his chart. And so when he describes something as though it's fact when in actuality it isn't a fact. Nina Bolivia, a political science researcher from Moscow University explains the reality of Putin’s popularity. “Where do these 84 percent really exist? I put up that question and the mystery is a key word, because the regime creates the numbers, which all authoritarian regimes do. They try to show to the world that they are supported by people. I want to prove that there are no 84 percent majority support Putin.” Trump’s chart shows he loves a good fight, and leading up to his presidency, he was sued over thirty six hundred times, over the course of 30 years. (USA today, 2016) That is one lawsuit every other day for 30 years. You have to ask yourself why and how is it, that the only way you can come to some agreement or work something out is to get sued? Remember the planet Mars rules lawsuits in his chart and it's on his ascendant, which is how he presents his personality to the world. Fighting doesn't wear him out at all, it just fuels his energy to fight more and try to get his way. The big irony is that as the elected President, he took an oath to uphold the laws, not ignore them. In order to learn more about how Trump is impacting America, we need to understand America's chart. America's birthdate is July 4th 1776. America is a Cancer country, She’s the motherland blessed with a lot of resources of our own, and a lot that are shared with others. This is indicated with America’s Sun and Mercury in the 8th house. Another key quality described in America’s chart is that we have been tasked with being the pillar of good ideas that stand for something in the world. The planet Saturn is about structure and authority and in the sign of Libra in the 10th house, means that justice, fairness, and a certain objectivity is something that we strive for and act as an example. Our relationships with allies are not always smooth, but there is a sense that there is some security and good intentions behind the relationships. America’s role in standing for something, actually has served as an anchor to help guide and be a rudder for our relationships in the world. When we go back to Donald Trump, how does his chart affect America? Well you might have guessed that his abrupt unpredictable reactive personality probably doesn't work well, and it doesn't. Trump’s Sun and Uranus sit in America’s seventh house which describes how we interact in our partnerships, in his case he is unpredictable and more interested in his own position. This is further complicated by the square his planets make with America’s Neptune in the 9th house which represents foreign land, foreign people, and international agreements. Whenever Neptune is involved the potential for idealism, false hopes or deception is high. He might think he knows where he is in these agreements with foreign countries, but he doesn't understand the bigger picture. He might be hopeful that certain things are going to work out a certain way for him, but it is more likely they won’t. In this 60 Minutes interview, Leslie Stahl asks questions, and as you hear Donald Trump talking, there's just something that sits strange. “Do you agree that Vladimir Putin is involved in assassinations. In poisonings?” Donald Trump responds, “Probably.” Leslie Stahl, “Probably?” Trump continues, “I mean probably, but I rely on them, it’s not in our culture.” Leslie Stahl continues, “ Why not? They shouldn't do it. This is a terrible thing. They shouldn’t do it. Do you believe that the Russians interfered in the 2016 campaign election?” Trump answers, “They meddled but I think China meddled, too.” Stahl reacts, “But why don't you tell me, the Russians mettled?” Trump again, “Because I think China mettled also.” This is the way that Donald Trump is processing America. He seems confused or is just more aligned with what he believes to be true, even though the former speaker of the House Paul Ryan said this, “ Vladimir Putin does not share our interests. Vladimir Putin does not share our values. We just conducted a yearlong investigation into Russia's interference in our elections. They did interfere our elections. It's really clear there should be no doubt about that. “ Paul Ryan is part of the GOP so this isn't the Democrats going after Trump. Trump’s astrology chart impacts America’s chart in a few different ways. Trump's Moon connects with the public's emotional identity. His bombastic and reactive way of expressing his feelings confuses our allies because his reactions are based on the energy he feels in the moment. His planets stir up a cloud of chaos in the part of America's chart that describes what we stand for as a country philosophically, and how we uphold the law is the ninth house. This part of America's chart, also has to do with America's search for the truth and foreign relationships. Unfortunately with Trump's big personality and his connection to the 9th house (which also connects to publicity), it opens the door for him to go on an American rebranding campaign. This is particularly mystifying to our allies, and possibly even connects to our enemies. Our intelligence agencies have been sounding all the alarms, on more than election interference. Former CIA Senior Intelligence Officer, Steve Hall expressed his concerns on CNN to Anderson Cooper. “You know before the Helsinki summit, I was not prepared to go to the darkest corner in the room, and say there is compromising information on Donald Trump. But then after I saw him together with Vladimir Putin and I saw Donald Trump treat him in a fashion that is just inexplicable. It made no sense. It's not as though Donald Trump has any problem being tough with people. The question is why. Why not be tough with a guy like Vladimir Putin. The only explanation that I can have is, is that he is concerned that the compromising information that that Putin has on him will get out.” The last thing that I want to talk about as it relates to Trump's chart and America, is that where he's most sensitive, he's actually in the public eye. He's not really in control of how everybody sees him and that's where he feels most vulnerable. This might be why he’s susceptible to flattery from people that are not our allies. If they speak to this wound that he has, that is very dangerous. If he feels threatened, his rebel rouser personality shows up and in America's chart. That part of him starts fights with our allies and it agitates our enemies. He deals with his own pain and insecurity, by stirring up and activating conflicts and other people If people don't know how he's going to respond or what he's going to say or how he's going to react they aren't sure how to make a strategy to interact with him, and that's how he wants it. In a weird way Donald Trump's combative style is his gift to all of us. His whole n “America First” campaign doesn't exactly incite harmony around the world. In fact, Trump's aggressive style in problem solving is the antithesis of innovation. In our world of complex problems, we need people to think about things creatively, and self interest is the opposite. As things are very stirred up in our country, our states, our communities and sometimes even at our dinner tables at home, it really helps to try to focus in on what is the problem. Then be open to hearing solutions from different perspectives. This is how we begin to work together. When people are emotionally charged, they can’t listen. The conversations become fights and usually they are not about the same specific problem. If the gift of our times right now, with President Trump and America's cycles, is to have all of these different feelings and challenges brought to the surface so that we can understand them clearly, then our best hope is to listen and work to understand each other. President Trump recently stirred up a hornets nest when he mentioned that he was considering signing an executive order ending birthright citizenship. As you might expect progressives went crazy, while Democrats and establishment Republicans denounced and/or, in the case of Senator Tim Scott (SC) or outgoing Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, politely “disagreed” with the President. Either way, this provides us with an opportunity to examine the Constitution and, being the constitutional geek that I am, I cannot resist. The United States recently witnessed a tragic example of hypocrisy in high office on the question of the sanctity of human life. Pennsylvania Republican Congressman Tim Murphy has a voting pattern of defending the sanctity of human life and only lately was amongst those who voted to ban abortion after 20 weeks. However, divorce proceedings revealed that when Congressman Murphy discovered that his mistress may be expecting a child, he repeatedly suggested that she abort the unborn baby. The political pressure became increasingly heavy after this revelation.Initially, Representative Murphy announced he would retire at the end of his term. Subsequently, he told Speaker of the House Paul Ryan that he'd resign effective October 21.This kind of hypocrisy at this level on the question of the sanctity of human life is not only immoral, it's downright deadly. Day by day, vote by vote, headline by headline, America's soul on the question of the dignity and sanctity of human life is becoming more apparent.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Darrell Castle talks about President Trump's broken promises and the tragedy of what could have been. Transcript / Notes BETRAYAL Hello, this is Darrell Castle with today's Castle Report. Today is Friday, September 22, 2017, and on today's Report, I will be talking about promises made and promises broken, and what might have been from President Donald Trump. President Trump campaigned on a promise that he would end DACA on his first day in office, but 8 months later he makes a feeble attempt but then reneges. Last week I said that he sent Attorney General Jeff Sessions out to announce that he was going to issue an order withdrawing President Obama's executive order establishing DACA, but then the President invited Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer to the Whitehouse for dinner. Ms. Pelosi issued a statement summarizing the discussions and stated that there would be legislation re-establishing DACA by law, which the President had agreed to sign. There would be serious discussion about border security “less the wall.” The Whitehouse Press Secretary said that, yes, border security was discussed, but no discussion about not building a wall, there was no agreement about that. That would make Nancy Pelosi either an idiot or a public liar. That's possible but highly unlikely. No, folks, it sure sounds like the promise which first got him noticed in the polls, i.e., “I'll build a wall and make Mexico pay for it”, has been abandoned. Republican Speaker of the House Paul Ryan told a group of Republicans that “only one person wants a wall”. Well, Mr. Ryan, I beg to differ because 63 million Americans voted for that wall, but hey, who cares about them. Everyone in Washington not only wants no wall, they want amnesty. Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer, along with all Democrats, want it. Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell, and all the liberal Republicans, want it. The tech company billionaires in Silicon Valley want it, and it looks like they will have it because the only ones who don't want it are the ones with no power and no influence. Tens of millions of tax paying Americans don't want it, but they do not count. So no repeal of DACA, and no wall, along with the destruction of the Republican Governors' lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of DACA , those are what President Trump has delivered instead of fulfilling his promises to the voters. This President likes the deal. He is the consummate deal maker and he likes the deal more than the Constitution and the rule of law. He worked out a deal with the Democrats and they got everything they wanted, but what did we get? I just don't see the quid pro quo. It is a very sad reminder of what could have been. This is what happens when you elect someone with no ideological motivation. He had the power to withdraw President Obama's unconstitutional Executive Order on his first day as he said he would, but he chose not to. What a message that would have sent around the world, but instead, he chose to send a message of betrayal. I remember President Reagan's amnesty bill in 1986, which was supposed to be the last one, and was supposed to include border security. What amnesty did instead was to deliver California to the Democrats forever. That's not enough for the Democrats though, they want the entire country forever. This all brings two questions to mind; what is the value of citizenship, and what is the value of coming to America legally? American citizenship has always been the golden prize, the brass ring that millions around the world desired, but was obtainable by only a few. Five cities in Maryland have now passed laws making it legal for non citizens to vote. In Philadelphia, a city Councilman recently stated that hundreds of non citizens vote there. So once again, what's the point of legality? Perhaps America is now a “failed state”. I looked “failed state” up in the dictionary and it said “a state that deteriorates to where conditions and responsibilities of a sovere...

It’s a firsthand look at the development of one of the original “Trump Republicans” and the populist message which is sending shockwaves through the Beltway Right.PAUL NEHLEN is not another lifelong politician, but a business executive and inventor.Nehlen started out on the factory floor and through God’s grace, grit, and determination rose to lead Fortune 500 manufacturing businesses around the world.Nehlen challenged Speaker Paul Ryan in Wisconsin’s 2016 First Congressional district to stop Trans Pacific Partnership and secure America’s border.Today he is waging the battle against the refugee resettlement racket and leading the cause to fight for America’s values. He lives in Delavan, Wisconsin.
Hosts Rania Khalek and Kevin Gosztola highlight some pretty awful and horrible stories on this week's show but not before talking about the Democratic Party's latest epic fail with Jon Ossoff's loss in Georgia. After discussing what happened with Ossoff, the show moves on to the United States and a network of torture chambers in Yemen. They cover developments in Syria, a Supreme Court decision against Arab or Muslim immigrants rounded up in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, and the video of Officer Jeronimo Yanez killing Philando Castile. The show ends on a lighter note with a look at the Democratic challengers that have come forward to challenge Speaker of the House Paul Ryan in 2018.

This week, we are bidding farewell to to an old year and welcoming in a new one, because we are slaves to artificial constructs like calendars. But since this is a time for New Years' resolutions, we'll offer one up: let's try to do less moral grandstanding in 2017. And to explain why that's bad, we welcome University of Michigan post-doctoral research fellow Justin Tosi to the show. Meanwhile, with all the talk of an incoming administration, we sometimes forget that our politics are primarily shaped by figures who've actually been in town for a while. One in particular is our sometimes-reluctant Speaker of the House Paul Ryan. Not too long ago, Ryan was the de facto standard-bearer of conservative politics, but there's been a lot of changes lately. What does his future look like? We'll dig down into the Ryanology to find out. Finally, you the funny thing about unaccountable executive power is that once it's unleashed, it's hard to stuff it back in the box from which it came. Now, America's drone war... See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Members of Congress were briefed last week on the procedures of replacing a presidential nominee on the top of the ticket, and Speaker of the House Paul Ryan is growing more concerned that his majority could be lost in November. We talk to The Week’s Ryan Cooper to sift through the recent GOP wreckage. Also, no banksters are in jail yet for the role in the 2008 crisis, but the Securities and Exchange Commission released new data this week that could be a bit of a consolation for those of us who really want to see Jamie Dimon in an orange jumpsuit. Finally, don’t tell the judicial system about the brief, slight lull in the election campaign. The DC Circuit Court of Appeals just ruled that the CFPB is structured unconstitutionally. We’ll tell you what that means, later.

Former Trump University students say their school duped them into paying as much as $35,000 for its real estate seminars. So they sued and the case is currently in court. You probably know what happened next. Last week, GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump went after the judge presiding over the civil fraud lawsuits—because of his ethnicity. “He's Mexican. We're building a wall between here and Mexico,” said Trump, who claimed that the Indiana-born US District Judge Gonzalo Curiel faced an “absolute conflict,” in ruling on the billionaire’s case. Trump’s words were the “textbook definition of a racist comment,” said GOP Speaker of the House Paul Ryan. Trump has since suggested that his remarks were “misconstrued.” Trump’s words were wrong, but it’s also incorrect to think that someone can do their jobs without their ethnic background coming into play, said Gabriel Salguero, the founder and president of the National Latino Evangelical Coalition, who joined Quick to Listen this week. “God’s sovereign will places us into the context into which we’re born,” said Salguero. “Does that impact how we see the world? Of course it does! The Christian shouldn’t see diversity as a deficit but as a gift.” One reason why we often see others as threats: fears of limited resources, says Alma Zaragoza-Petty, the daughter of Mexican immigrants. who recently completed her Ph.D in educational policy and social context at UC Irvine and who also came on Quick to Listen. But “God’s love is abundant,” said Zaragoza-Petty. Zaragoza-Petty and Salguero joined Morgan and Katelyn on Quick to Listen this week to talk about whether a person’s ethnicity should affect how their work and who decides who gets to be an America. (6:50) Are there times when our ethnic background actually should or can influence the way we do our jobs? (14:50) How do we determine who is an American, and who gets to decide that? (23:20) How have you seen fears of scarcity of resources in your own community and how have you responded to it?

Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan is playing the role of the adult in the room while the Republican presidential candidates one-up each other with increasingly outrageous rhetoric. The new house speaker chided Donald Trump's proposed ban on Muslims entering the country, saying it's "not what this party stands for." With Ryan potentially playing a leading role should the party wind up in a brokered convention next year, we went back into the archives to our chat with him, in which we discussed his views on crony capitalism, taxes and entitlements. https://nv1-offload-media.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/20123055/omnibusFINAL.wav Omnibus is a Latin word that means “for all.” In legislation it means cramming everything into a bill that you think can pass. That's what we're doing with this edition of Trahant Reports. First up: A deal in Congress has lifted the caps from the Budget Control Act, or the sequester, and it raises the debt limit until March 2017. This deal ends distractions such as new government shut downs or a defunding of Planned Parenthood until well after the election. Unfortunately the details, such as the actual budgets for the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Indian Health Service, still have to be written, between now and Dec. 11 The politics of this deal are stunning, but, unfortunately, probably only temporary. More Democrats voted for the bill than Republicans. So the Republican Leadership actually picked a bipartisan course. Any budget that passes with more Democrats than Republicans is considered awful. Even the new Speaker of the House Paul Ryan said the process stinks. But the deal will make it easier for Ryan to govern his caucus because it takes away the threat of government shutdowns and general chaos. Ryan's goal will be to unite the Republicans so that what ever measures come forward next will be debated within the party. At least that's the theory. Second item: This week there is an important race in Seattle. Debora Juarez is a candidate for Seattle City Council. She's a member of the Blackfeet Tribe, grew up in the Seattle-Tacoma area, and is campaigning on neighborhood issues. That means things people care about: more sidewalks, better bus service, and affordable housing. The Seattle Times said in its endorsement editorial: “In a crowded field, Debora Juarez stands out. … She would bring intellectual rigor and ideological independence to the council.” It doesn't get any better than this. Of course great candidates make all the difference in elections. They bring experience and poise to the campaign. That's why so many eyes are watching Montana right now. The only Native American to hold a statewide office, Denise Juneau, is considering a run for the U.S. House. She's currently Montana's Superintendent of Public Instruction and a member of the Mandan and Hidatsa Tribes. She grew up in Browning on the Blackfeet Reservation. Two years ago there was a lot of interest in Juneau running for an open U.S. Senate seat. I thought it would have been an interesting race, but it would have been a long shot. The problem is the type of voters Juneau would need only vote in presidential election years and that race would have been a low-turnout election. So she opted to stick with the job she loves, running public education. Juneau is now at her term limit. Her schools' job will end. And since it's a presidential year, the House seat is awfully tempting. It's a seat that can be won. Stay tuned.
