Honoré par une rétrospective aux Rencontres de la photographie d'Arles 2026, Alain Keler a su documenter les grands conflits du XXè siècle en créant des images d'actualité à hauteur d'hommes, de femmes et d'enfants. À l'heure du bilan en noir et blanc, son œuvre photographique révèle combien son histoire personnelle est connectée à l'histoire du monde. Un reportage de Maxime Grember. Le goût du voyage et les débuts d'un photoreporter  Depuis plus de cinquante ans, Alain Keler regarde le monde à travers son objectif. Un monde qu'il a d'abord parcouru en photoreporter, au rythme de l'actualité et de ses bouleversements, avant de prendre le temps de s'arrêter, de revenir sur ses pas et, peu à peu, de tourner son regard vers sa propre histoire.   Après ses années de lycée à Honfleur, en Normandie, Alain Keler apprend la technique photographique et travaille dans un laboratoire à la fin des années 1960. Avec ses premières économies, il achète deux appareils photo et un billet de train pour Istanbul. Ce premier départ marque le début d'une vie de voyages.   Quelques années plus tard viennent New York, puis l'Amérique latine, où il est rémunéré pour la première fois comme photographe en 1974. De retour à Paris, Alain Keler entre en 1975 à l'agence de presse Sygma.   Commence alors une quinzaine d'années de photojournalisme au cœur des grands bouleversements de son époque : la révolution iranienne en 1979, les grèves des chantiers navals de Gdansk en Pologne en 1980, la guerre du Liban en 1982, la famine en Éthiopie en 1985 ou encore les manifestations de la place Tiananmen à Pékin en 1989.   Ses photographies font le tour du monde et sont publiées dans les grands magazines internationaux.  Après la chute du Mur, prendre le temps de regarder  À force de courir d'une actualité à l'autre, Alain Keler ressent une frustration grandissante : celle de devoir repartir trop vite, sans pouvoir rester suffisamment longtemps auprès de ceux qu'il photographie. La chute du mur de Berlin, le 9 novembre 1989, marque un tournant. Derrière le rideau de fer, tout un monde vacille. Keler décide alors de prendre le temps. À partir des années 1990, il parcourt les pays de l'ancien bloc communiste à la rencontre des minorités ethniques et religieuses. De ce travail au long cours naît Vents d'Est, récompensé par le prix W. Eugene Smith, l'une des distinctions majeures de la photographie documentaire. Entre 2004 et 2005, une bourse de la fondation 3P, créée par Yann Arthus-Bertrand, lui permet de se rendre à plusieurs reprises en Israël et dans les Territoires Palestiniens. En photographiant ce territoire et ceux qui l'habitent, Alain Keler se rapproche, presque malgré lui, de sa propre histoire. Quand l'Histoire rencontre la mémoire familiale  Du fracas de l'Histoire à la mémoire familiale, son regard change de distance. Après avoir photographié les guerres, les révolutions et les peuples menacés, Keler se tourne vers ses parents, ses origines et les traces laissées par l'histoire du XXè siècle dans sa propre famille.   Membre de l'agence MYOP depuis 2008, il poursuit cette exploration de l'intime, notamment à travers la photographie et le documentaire. Une quête de mémoire qui devient aussi une histoire de transmission avec son fils Léo Keler, lui-même photographe.   En 2024, père et fils reprennent ensemble la route en Allemagne, sur les traces du grand-père d'Alain, déporté à Buchenwald, et de l'itinéraire qu'il a parcouru lors des marches de la mort d'avril 1945. Transmettre, raconter ce que l'image ne dit pas  Cette transmission passe aussi par les archives. People just don't take it consistently.The SYGMA trials were the breakthrough.An as-needed ICS-LABA reliever matched daily steroids, with far better uptake.More SABA use, more risk. More ICS-LABA use, less. Same reliever, opposite outcome.Ease patients in rather than fighting their SABA attachment.Most drop the SABA once they see the new approach working.Getting the diagnosis right takes time but is critical because it's a potentially lifelong label. Keep patients off SABA alone, and make sure every reliever carries a steroid. Simple? Paris homenageia o legado do fotógrafo Sebastião Salgado com uma grande exposição na Prefeitura de Paris, aberta ao público a partir deste sábado (21). Com curadoria e cenografia de sua companheira de vida, Lélia Wanick Salgado, a mostra reúne cerca de 200 obras, a maioria vinda do acervo da Maison Européenne de la Photographie (MEP), de Paris. Patrícia Moribe, em Paris O casal se instalou em Paris em 1969, fugindo da ditadura militar brasileira. Economista de formação, a fotografia surgiu no percurso de Sebastião Salgado por acaso através de Lélia, que comprou uma câmera em Paris para seus estudos de arquitetura. "Ele inclusive nunca tinha feito fotografia. Fui eu que comprei a máquina aqui, porque eu estudava arquitetura e precisava fazer fotos. E então foi aí que ele pegou uma câmera pela primeira vez e gostou tanto que roubou minha câmera! Aí, quando eu queria sair para fazer foto, ele dizia: 'Não, eu saio com você, eu faço com você'", conta, rindo. A trajetória profissional de Salgado se consolidou na sua passagem por agências de renome mundial, como Sygma, Gamma e Magnum Photos. O fotojornalista viajava o mundo em coberturas e flagrou, inclusive, a tentativa de assassinato do então presidente americano Ronald Reagan, em 1981. Trajetória Lélia lembra que os primeiros anos exigiram muito esforço e auxílio mútuo, numa época em que ela percorria as redações de Paris em uma mobilete para entregar os filmes do marido. “A vida de um fotógrafo é muito difícil antes de ele se afirmar como profissional”, explica. Em 1994, o casal fundou sua própria agência, a Amazonas Images, que se tornou o quartel-general do trabalho do artista. A exposição também destaca o compromisso ético e ambiental que marca a obra de Salgado. Lélia ressalta que o objetivo do marido era sempre desenvolver temas com um propósito claro, como no caso dos fluxos migratórios: "Ninguém sai de sua casa porque quer. Todo mundo sai porque tem um objetivo, tem uma dificuldade... Então, essa é a mensagem." Da mesma forma, projetos como Gênesis e Amazônia foram criados como alertas para a preservação, relata a curadora. Instituto Terra O legado pela defesa do meio ambiente do casal se materializa de forma prática no Instituto Terra, um projeto de reflorestamento na Mata Atlântica, atualmente administrado pelo filho mais velho, Juliano. A iniciativa começou com uma área desmatada herdada por Salgado, que foi totalmente resgatada e segue se expandindo. Lélia comemora o crescimento impressionante do projeto, de 3.500 árvores plantadas inicialmente para 30 milhões em breve. A exposição em Paris encerra esse percurso de forma íntima, apresentando as obras do filho caçula, Rodrigo, que tem síndrome de Down, e um vídeo com as últimas imagens capturadas por Sebastião no Instituto Terra, em dezembro de 2023. A visita à homenagem de Paris a Sebastião Salgado é gratuita, mas a reserva é obrigatória pelo site oficial. A exposição fica em cartaz até 30 de maio de 2026.
