What happens when faith, science, and culture collide? In this powerful episode of Fearless with Mark & Amber, we sit down with Dr. Georgia Purdom (Answers in Genesis)—a molecular geneticist and leading voice in biblical apologetics—to discuss why Genesis is foundational, how believers can stand firm in today's culture, and why truth must begin with God's Word. We also dive into: *The explosive growth of the Answers for Women Conference *How to equip families facing gender confusion, anxiety, and cultural pressure *Why biblical authority—not culture—must define truth *The importance of discipleship, community, and courageous leadership This conversation is both encouraging and equipping for parents, leaders, and anyone seeking clarity in a confused culture. Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for June 24, 2025 is: noisome NOY-sum adjective Noisome is a formal and literary word used to describe things that are very unpleasant or disgusting; it is used especially to describe offensive smells. Noisome can also mean “highly obnoxious or objectionable” as in “we were put off by their noisome habits.” // The noisome odor of a trash can in the alley was so strong that even diners seated inside the adjacent restaurant complained to staff. See the entry > Examples: “During the fourteenth century, the bubonic plague outbreak that came to be known as the Black Death claimed thousands of victims, condemning them to a rapid and painful end. As the sufferers deteriorated, the disease tainted them with a tell-tale, repellent stench, which seemed to confirm smell as the root cause of the illness. ... Noisome dwellings were set right by fumigation, while rooms were doused with strong-smelling substances like vinegar and turpentine—anything to keep at bay the dreaded miasma.” — Ashley Ward, Where We Meet the World: The Story of the Senses, 2023 Did you know? Noisome looks and sounds like a close relation of noisy, but it's not. While noisy describes what is excessively loud, noisome typically describes what is excessively stinky. (It is also used to describe things offensive to the senses generally, as well as things that are highly obnoxious, objectionable, or simply harmful.) Noisome comes from the synonymous Middle English noysome, which combines the suffix -some, meaning “characterized by a specified thing,” and the noun noy, meaning “annoyance.” Noisy, incidentally, comes ultimately from Latin nausea, meaning “nausea.”

Noy Leyb was born and raised in Canada, and at 18 moved to Israel to join the IDF. Since then, he has been an activist fighting against antisemitism. On October 7th, Noy was living in New York, where he was the CEO and co-founder of a Tech-stars backed company. Noy left his company behind him, and boarded the first flight to Israel to join his unit in the war against Hamas. His commitment to Israel extends beyond the battlefield - Noy is a social media advocate (Instagram), and has amassed tens of thousands of followers, and millions of views.Following his release from Gaza this past January, instead of taking a vacation (like I did), Noy traveled to different communities in the US and Canada to share his unique perspective. He has spoken to thousands of people, ranging from 5th graders to seniors, both Jewish and non-Jewish. In May, Noy flew back to Israel, this time to the Northern border, where he was stationed when we recorded this podcast. We discussed what it was like growing up as a Canadian with Israeli parents, and his journey from feeling more Canadian to (now) more Israeli. We spoke about drafting, tryouts, and the challenges of military service, both mental and physical. When Noy got out of the service, he moved to Australia with his brother, and sold Dead Sea products. On this episode, he dispelled several rumors about that line of work which you'll have to listen to uncover. Noy and I discussed our experiences with Antisemitism in NY and around the world following our deployment to Gaza.We also spoke about our experiences fighting Hamas in the Beit Hanoun neighborhood of the Gaza Strip (we entered Gaza on the same day, and spent 6 weeks 100 meters away from each other, though we never saw each other). We discussed PTSD among soldiers who have fought in this war, and what is being done to address it. We closed with a discussion of the most common mistruths that Noy hears Israel accused of, and how to refute them.
Margarita interviews reserve soldier & social media activist - Noy Leyb. Noy went viral after October 7th as he shared his experience serving in the war in Israel. This episode of Dipped In Tone features Rhett flying solo with veteran jazz guitarist Oz Noy. Born in Israel, Noy started gigging at age 13, and 37 years later, he's still going strong as a celebrated live musician—including a 17-year run at New York City club The Bitter End.Noy explains that he grew up with a foot in both jazz and rock music worlds. The former taught him intricate playing, while the latter schooled him on tone and sound. “I was playing heavy metal on one hand,” he says. “On the other, I had a hollowbody guitar and I was playing bebop.” When he moved to New York, he was “shellshocked” by how advanced and impressive the jazz music scene was. Noy played in a trio, so to fill out his sonic palette, he began leaning on effects as “almost another instrument.” Not all of it has been intentional—he found a signature sound thanks to a happy accident with a tremolo pedal while gigging in Japan. While he still loves old, loud Marshalls, Noy says Two-Rock amplifiers have radically changed his approach, and he even uses Fender combos on the road. But aside from running his amps into a Universal Audio OX, Noy explains why he's still not impressed with digital amp solutions.Noy's most important advice for players? “You gotta go out of your house and play live,” he says, explaining why it doesn't cut it to just home-record clips for Instagram or YouTube. And while he sings the praises of his favorite modern jazz players, he tells Rhett why he thinks that rock and blues guitar-playing haven't evolved much since the '70s: “There's nobody that took it to the next level or invented something new.”Big thanks to StewMac for sponsoring this episode. Happy Monday! Sam is off today, but in honor of Indigenous People's Day he spoke with Peter D'Errico, professor emeritus of legal studies at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, about his recent book Federal Anti-Indian Law: The Legal Entrapment of Indigenous Peoples. But first, Emma spoke with Orly Noy, editor at Local Call and chair of B'Tselem's executive board, to discuss the recent fighting between Palestine and Israel. Emma also walked through on the UAW's labor action, Donald Trump's assessment of RFK, a devastating earthquake in Afghanistan, and Gavin Newsom's regressive veto campaign, before stepping back to look at the role of Israel's ongoing apartheid state and Bibi Netanyahu's genocidal government in pushing this conflict to its breaking point. Orly joins the show from Jerusalem, as she updates Emma on the state of war within Israel and Palestine, even as far from the primary conflict as Jerusalem is. Next, Noy parses through Bibi Netanyahu's response as a perfect encapsulation of his political agenda, completely committing his power to punishing Gaza and Palestine, and shoring up his own political station. Expanding on this, Noy walks through the failure of the Israeli government to even provide safety for Israelis, dedicating their forces to a genocidal response and leaving civilian safety to civilian organizers, before she and Emma step back and assess the evolution of Netanyahu's approach (or lack thereof) to Palestine, pulling every maneuver to bypass them politically, while maintaining a strict and severe military occupation. Wrapping up, Noy assesses Hamas' outcast role in Palestinian politics and military resistance, and why ground invasion would be an incredibly dangerous development for the already criminally fragile open-air prison that is Gaza. Professor D'Errico then walks through the evolution of the doctrines of settler colonialism in what is now the United States, with the doctrine of Christian discovery that launched the colonial era from Spain and England setting the stage for the US' own domestic justification for the “manifest destiny” agenda. Expanding on this, D'Errico and Sam explore the central cases in the establishment of Chief Justice John Marshall's ‘Marshall Doctrine' in Indian Law, which actively committed to the perspective of Christian dominion and discovery, and asserted the native peoples as a sub-human class unable to look after their land. Next, they look to the post-Marshall evolution of the doctrine, with the Court carrying its vision forward while slowly obscuring its origins, seeing it affirmatively cited even by supposedly progressive justices like RBH, without reference to Christianity. After expanding on the Marshall Doctrine's secondary purpose as a reinforcement of federal domination over the states, D'Errico wraps up by walking through the contemporary battles over the Marshall Doctrine, the push for full assimilation of Native territories, and the need to bring the origins of the doctrine back into full public view. And in the Fun Half: Emma and Matt watch Jordan Peterson's homophobia get easily sliced by Jim Jeffries, Lucy from Tallahassee dives into her perspective on DeSantis' culture war, and Mustafa Barghouti makes an impactful appearance on CNN in the wake of Hamas' attacks this weekend. Nancy Mace has no response to her support for alleged perpetrators and SA supporters Jim Jordan and Matt Gaetz, Jacob from Alabama discusses the Marriage Penalty on social benefits, the UK's right-wing spiral continues, and Alfred from Texas puts forward a counterfactual to assuage European culpability on Indigenous Peoples Day, plus, your calls and IMs! "Some of the shared concepts - even words that psychoanalysis and musicians use - such as conflict, ambiguity, silences, dissonance, resolution or not, working through, is in the Mozart you've heard. What you hear in the very opening four measures was worked through this entire sonata, it was thematic. If we play the whole sonata, and even in the first movement, you get a taste of it. Those themes are present throughout the sonata just like in the patient's associations and interactions with you - we have music themes and we have core conflicts, and they get developed.” Episode Description: We begin by listening to the opening of Mozart's A minor sonata, performed by Professor Louis Nagel. Mozart wrote this during the time of his mother's death, and it was one of the very few instances of his utilizing a minor key. From that example, we explore the interface between the dynamic mind and the layering of classical music. Concepts of core conflict, displacement, and resolution represent important meanings in both fields. Julie shares clinical examples of how music enters her clinical space with her patients. She also shares with us her life story and how music played a central role in helping her negotiate tumultuous personal circumstances. She demonstrates what it means to be an ambassador for both music and psychoanalysis - on and off the couch. Our Guest: Julie Jaffee Nagel, PhD is a psychologist, psychoanalyst, and musician. She graduated from The Juilliard School, the University of Michigan, and The Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute. She has presented widely on Stage Fright, Careers in the Arts, #Me Too and Music Education, The Value of Music in Mental Life, and “Injustice, Oppression, and Prejudice As ‘Heard'” in Music.” Her fantasy dialogue, A Conversation Between Mozart and Freud, was performed in Steinway Hall, NYC, in February 2020. She is the author of Managing Stage Fright and Melodies of the Mind. She has served as chair of the American Psychoanalytic Association's discussion group Psychoanalytic Perspectives on Music, was a member of the Program Committee, Symposium Committee, and is currently Chair of the Ticho Award Committee. She has presented at The College Music Society, Music Teachers National Conference, and National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy, from whom she received their Distinguished Service Award. Additional Awards include two Nathan Segal Awards (MPI), The Karl Menninger Award, and the Ernst and Gertrude Ticho Award for contribution to psychoanalysis and music. Her latest book, Career Choices in Music Beyond the Pandemic: Musical and Psychoanalytic Perspectives, offers unique musical and psychological perspectives on one of the most important decisions made in a musician's (or anyone's) lifetime: choosing a career. She is in private practice in Dexter, Michigan. Movie of the Year: Best of 2022Oscar DraftWhich films will get the most 2022 Oscar nominations? The Oscars. When it comes to little statues handed to movie stars, the absolute top of the table. 2022 had movies galore, and many of them were terrific. But will the academy know which movies to award? Their record on this is spotty at best and disastrous at worst, leading to a feeling that ultimately the Oscars don't even matter anymore. Let us be clear, this is a mostly correct position held by cool people. But if you love pop-culture you still have to talk about the Oscars, even if only to roll your eyes and sigh while pointing out that, yeah, they blew it again.Remember Crash? Remember Green Book? Gross. And we are to pop-culture what Britney was 4 U: a slave. So, yeah, we're gonna talk about the Oscars. They're not the Brunos! Encanto is so great, right? Noy 2022, but still a great movie. However, around here we can't talk about a subject without making it into a weird game that hurts my feelings but I hide the hurt and NEVER let it show because Greg is Mommy's brave boy and if he can't hold in his feelings then the whole world could fall apart. Again, Encanto (2021) is such a great movie, isn't it?No one has ever beaten Ryan at this game or even gotten a second-place that felt worth a gosh darn, but the panel came prepared this time. We've done the research; we know the angles; and we're ready to take down Ryan, our sensei of cinema. All that and more on this week's episode!

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for June 25, 2022 is: noisome NOY-sum adjective The word noisome describes what is very unpleasant or disgusting, and is used especially of disgusting smells. // A noisome stench came from the narrow alley. See the entry > Examples: "In 1905, a 'garbage committee' led by a Mrs. J.G. McLean demanded a more subtle and sanitary L.A. trash management than the noisy and noisome practice of trash cans collected and then dropped with a clang on public sidewalks where, as The Times wrote appetizingly, they lay 'with reminiscences of the day before yesterday's dinner clinging to the sides, there to fester and fry in the fierce rays of the sun.'" — Patt Morrison, The Los Angeles Times, 6 Feb. 2022 Did you know? Noisome looks and sounds like a close relation of noisy, but it's not. While noisy describes what is excessively loud, noisome typically describes what is excessively stinky. (It is also used to describe things offensive to the senses generally, as well as things that are highly obnoxious, objectionable, or simply harmful.) Noisome comes from the synonymous Middle English noysome, which combined the suffix -some, meaning “characterized by a specified thing,” and the noun noy, meaning “annoyance.” Noisy, incidentally, comes ultimately from Latin nausea, meaning “nausea.”

S2Ep7 Reading the Bible in One Year with Gerald (Roy) Christo The first time I read the Bible through was 1991 - yes, I was an overachieving Bible-thumping teenager. I must admit, that there are large portions of the Bible that are boring - especially if you don't know the context. Meet my friend, Noy, who will complete reading the Bible on December 31. We talk about why he did it - especially live online - and some of the lessons he learned along the way. Enjoy! #goals
In this episode, we interview +972 contributor Orly Noy about the shocking display of racism and brutality in Jerusalem last week, when hundreds of Israeli Jews, many of them young men, marched through the streets of the city chanting "Death to Arabs.” The march was organized by Lehava, a notorious extreme right wing organization, after several videos posted on TikTok showed Palestinians harassing ultra-Orthodox Jews.Noy, who witnessed the violence that night, spoke about how Lehava preys on disempowered young Mizrahi and ultra-Orthodox Jews, how the Israeli and international media got the story wrong, and what kind of hope, if at all, she has for the city she has called home for most of her life. You can also read her essay, titled "I write to remember the brutality of Jewish violence I saw in Jerusalem," here. The music in this episode is by Ketsa.Visit +972 Magazine and follow us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.Support +972 Magazine: 972mag.com/donateSupport the show (https://972mag.com/donate)
