This week, we're shifting our focus from Túrin's forest brooding to a bold new journey—one led by a mother who refuses to sit still while rumors swirl. As whispers from Nargothrond reach Doriath, tensions rise, tempers flare, and long-held restraint begins to crack. Duty, grief, and stubborn determination collide in unexpected ways as new characters step forward and familiar ones surprise us. Let's just say… the House of Húrin isn't done stirring things up, and not even Thingol and Melian can keep the storm from brewing.*SPECIAL MENTION*https://artofarklin.com https://linktr.ee/sistersoftheshirepodcasthttps://www.instagram.com/sistersoftheshirepodcast/https://www.patreon.com/sistersoftheshirepodcasthttps://open.spotify.com/show/1HIhmdeX6761vi7RyOjl8f?si=_qwdGdP7SbmAP2RWlji54w
The Elves speak in a more gracious and antique style; James thinks there's an old joke in there somewhere. Join The Man of the West and The Sage of the South as we begin our two-episode exploration of Appendix F to The Lord of the Rings, and the languages of Middle-earth take center stage. Pengoloð shows up again, someone is trying to gloss over Thingol's linguistic genocide, and Galadriel has her scribes everywhere. We discuss Tolkien's gripe with translations a week early, give another shout-out to Círdan and wonder (but not for long) about Entish pillow talk. Also, Weber bread makes an unexpected appearance. Gilraen's mom and dad have differing opinions on whether she should marry Arathorn; Alan and Sara just have differing opinions. Join The Man of the West and The Shieldmaiden of Rohan as we begin a two-part series — which rapidly becomes three parts — on The Tale of Aragorn and Arwen as the PPP returns to Appendix A in The Lord Of the Rings. Aragorn strays into a dream and discovers she's the meaning in his life, she's the inspiration; Elrond seems to learn a lesson from Thingol's error; and Aragorn has some errantry to run. Alan and Sara wonder what song Aragorn was singing, speculate about Aragorn's teenage angst, and decide that Aragorn's journeys must have taken him at least 500 miles from Arwen's door. Also, Sara's retirement dreams: bon-bons in the Hall of Fire. This episode is sponsored by/brought to you by BetterHelp. When she was a kid, sure. Thingol continues his efforts to defeat Denethor as Best Father in the Legendarium in our next reading in The Lay of Leithian.
We continue our readings in the Lay of Leithian as Beren faces off against Thingol in the halls of Menegroth. And still, no one listens to Melian.
Join The Man of the West as he continues his readings in The Lay of Leithian, this time as Lúthien brings Beren home for a chat — and Thingol has questions.
We all know that Thingol married up, but our time in The Lay of Leithian today really gives us some insight as to why. Also, we meet Daeron — forgotten harper, singer doomed.
We return to the halls of Menegroth as Angrod throws Fëanor under the bus, Thingol counts to ten, an entire language nopes right out of there, and Galadriel gets nosy.
The Man of the West continues his read-through and discussion of the chapter Of the Noldor in Beleriand as Thingol hears, but once again doesn't really listen to, Melian. Also, great-uncles can be mean!

Húrin encounters Mîm in Nargothrond and slays him. As he journeys eastward, he is taken to King Thingol. He casts the Nauglamír, Necklace of Dwarves at Thingol's feet and berates him for the loss of his wife and children. Melian attempts to reason with him, assuring him that Túrin, Morwen, and Nienor were welcomed with honor in Doriath. Due to the power of the Girdle of Melian, Húrin at last sees how Morgoth twisted the truth. 01:09 Cameron reads pages 230-233 from the Silmarillion, 2nd Edition 13:57 Summary 15:22 Discussion "Long was their labour; and Thingol went down alone to their deep smithies, and sat ever among them as they worked. With Melkor imprisoned in Mandos and the Elves on the way to the Blessed Realm, we pause to consider a BRIEF love story that lays the groundwork for a considerably EPIC love story later in The Silmarillion. Like Chapter 2, Chapter 4 doesn't so much advance the plot from the previous chapter as it provides explanatory detail that will come into play much later.WATCH THE VIDEO » https://youtu.be/z1a3ELPMuqwThe audio of this episode was released 3 days early and ad-free for our amazing patrons!EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS » Kaitlyn of Tea with Tolkien, John R, Jacob LockhamARTWORK » https://www.deviantart.com/kimberly80/art/Nan-Elmoth-551617631 by kimberly80 (https://www.deviantart.com/kimberly80)In Chapter 4, we'll learn:- Of the nature of Melian the Maia- Of Elwë, and his lingering in Beleriand- Of the Grey-ElvesCONTENTS:- Melian the Maia » 5:35- "Enchantment" » 8:38- Elwë / Thingol » 19:45- Thingol and Melian Meet » 26:20- The Grey-Elves » 37:40- Haiku » 43:48HELPFUL LINKS:- listen to The Silmarillion for FREE » https://www.audibletrial.com/everon- buy The Silmarillion » https://amzn.to/3FOKAY5- buy The Atlas of Middle-earth » https://amzn.to/3KLOxQa- buy Tolkien's Requiem » https://tolkiensrequiem.com/- buy Tolkien's Overture » https://tolkiensoverture.com/- Timeline of Arda » https://lotr.fandom.com/wiki/Timeline_of_Arda- Episode 9 » Of Thingol and Melian 2015 » https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AX2Ayhfr1pESPECIAL THANKS:- John R- Kaitlyn of Tea with Tolkien- Jacob Lockham- Ms. Anonymous- Andrew T- Redhawk- Shannon S- Brian O- Emilio P- Zeke F- James A- James L- Chris L- Chuck F- Asya V- Ish of the Hammer- Teresa C- David of Pints with Jack- Jonathan D- Eric S- Joey S- Eric B- Johanna T- Mike M- Robert H- Paul D- Julia- Werty- Matthew W- JoeBagelMan- Chris KAS WELL AS THOSE CELEBRATING THEIR PATRON ANNIVERSARY THIS MONTH (MARCH OF 2022): Kaitlyn of Tea WithTolkien, Paul D, Daria, Stephen S, Jay Z, Andrew T, Bethany E, Daniel Delaney
