This week, the lads hop across the pond to continue excavating denim and leather. It's all about the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal! The NWOBM movement was filled with passionate bands that were poised to take over the world. Unfortunately, most of them didn't make it to the level of Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, or Saxon. Hopefully, we can help spread the word and sounds for those who didn't. What's this InObscuria thing? We're a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This week we discuss the LOST. For such a small island, they sure had a lot of amazing bands that set the standards for what is known as heavy metal. From the music, to the fashion, to the attitude… Over 45-years ago, these bands started an underground movement that would change hard rock and metal forever. Songs this week include: More – “Warhead” from Warhead (1981) DEMON – “Night Of The Demon” from Night Of The Demon (1981) Grim Reaper – “Run For Your Life” from See You In Hell (1983) Bronz – “Heat Of The Night” from Taken By Storm (1983) Witchfynde – “Give ‘Em Hell” from Give ‘Em Hell(1980) Marseille – “Rock You Tonight” from Marseille (1979) Aragorn – “Black Ice” from The Neat Singles Collection Vol. 1 (1981) Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!:InObscuria Store Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/ https://www.facebook.com/InObscuria https://x.com/inobscuria https://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/ Check out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/ If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/ If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/

This episode is part 29 in a series going through the story of the Book of Mormon. This episode covers chapters 43-46 of the book of Alma. The war mentioned in Alma chapter 35 now gets detailed. We meet a new character--Captain Moroni--who reminds me of William Wallace from Braveheart or Aragorn from Lord of the Rings. After Captain Moroni leads the Nephites to victory, the sons of Alma try to reform the church. A suave strong guy named Amalickiah starts a faction in Zarahemla to make him king and corrupt the church. Captain Moroni goes all American patriot with flags and rallying troops to protect liberty. Alma chapter 46 even includes the phrase "the blessings of liberty" that comes from the preamble to the U.S. Constitution, and "land of liberty" which sounds like a familiar song. We have a little fun with the obvious patriotic references.YouTube videos used for sound bites:Braveheart (1995) - Best scene - William Wallace's speech (HD)Famous Speeches: Aragorn at the Black GateUnited States of America National Anthem (Instrumental)Home Free - My Country Tis of TheeFurther research:Book of Mormon in videoJoseph Smith: The Prophet of the RestorationThe Book of Mormon online: Alma [chapters 43, 44, 45, 46]Have questions for Truthspresso? We cracked open the box a bit last week talking about portrayals of Aragorn and Arwen's romance in the upcoming Hunt for Gollum. This week, our hosts go back to the source material to discuss their relationship, how it is portrayed in Jackson's films, and how it might be brought into the new film well.

Show some love and send a text. #CheersSeason 7 begins in Middle-earth.In this episode of Reels, Booze & Bro's (RB2Podcast), we dive into The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers — the darker, bigger, and battle-heavier middle chapter of Peter Jackson's epic trilogy. From the rise of Gollum as one of cinema's most complex characters to the legendary Battle of Helm's Deep, this movie doesn't just continue the story… it escalates everything. We break down Aragorn's leadership arc, Legolas and Gimli's rivalry, the emotional weight of Frodo and Sam's journey, and why Helm's Deep still stands as one of the greatest battle sequences ever put on film. And yes, we debate whether this might secretly be the strongest film of the trilogy. As always, we pair this fantasy epic with some booze-worthy brews fit for the halls of Rohan. So grab a drink, sharpen your blade, and join us as we kick off Season 7 with an episode worthy of the White Tree.Clear eyes. Full fellowship. Can't lose. Support the show
Are you ready for an action-packed recap? In The Two Towers the fellowship is disbanded, but not the mission secure. Merry and Pippin are hobbitnapped, Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli meet up with a refined Gandalf the white who sweeps them into a war while Frodo and Sam are led by Gollum through the swamps. They meet Faramir, Boromir's brother who has wisdom that Boromir lacked.“War must be, while we defend our lives against a destroyer who would devour all; but I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only what they defend.”There are a plethora of powerful quotes! Here's a few of our favorites.“The hasty stroke oft goes astray.” -Aragorn“Often does hatred hurt itself.” - Gandalf“Where there's life there's hope, and need of vittles.” - SamGandalf gives Saruman a chance to change, but he refuses. “He will not serve only command.”Kate explained the backstory about how evil men fell into idleness and ease which led them into fighting amongst themselves. Which connects with: “Hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times. Good times create weak men. And, weak men create hard times.”― G. In this episode, we look at two of the most unloved film changes from Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings: Arwen replacing Glorfindel and making Arwen the only one with power and agency in The Flight to the Ford.. Michael and Jonathan break down why these choices set off so many Tolkien fans, how they impact the agency of Aragorn and Frodo, and whether these moments actually improve the movies. Why losing Glorfindel means losing a key link to Middle-earth's ancient history The movie’s “girl boss” approach to Arwen's character—and what it does to the story Frodo's lost agency at the ford, and the difference between book and film The most “cringeworthy” line in Lord of the Rings Become a member at https://theonering.com/members or https://theonering.com/patreon to hear our thoughts on: The re-release box office numbers for The Lord of the Rings trilogy (any why were they so low) Viewer comments on our last video (were we wrong?) We’re back to going through ALL the changes in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings! This week we discuss Aragorn’s sword substitions, changes at Weathertop, and that infamous messenger moth: Was Aragorn really just carrying around a package of small swords the entire time? Was the battle at Weathertop lore-friendly? The messenger moth replaces Radagast… and Jonathan can’t get over it. The Gospel in Lord of the Rings In this episode of the Exploring More podcast, Michael Thompson and SJ Jennings journey through the epic world of The Lord of the Rings—exploring how Tolkien's masterpiece mirrors the deeper spiritual realities of our own lives. From the quiet comfort of the Shire to the battlefields of Middle Earth, the conversation follows Frodo, Gandalf, Aragorn, and the fellowship as they answer the call to adventure, face down evil, and sacrifice for something greater than themselves. Using the trailers from The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King, Michael and SJ unpack the arc of the Hero's Journey and why it continues to resonate. They reflect on the pull toward comfort, the cost of leaving "the normal world," and the significance of choosing hope in the darkest places. The ring becomes more than a plot device—it's a symbol of the burdens we carry and the battles we face daily. With personal stories, spiritual insight, and reverence for the storytelling genius of Tolkien, this episode reminds us that every man is in a larger story—one filled with glory, grief, and a King worth following. Smith “Heather had invented the game, but Picket made it magic.” Most unpredictable: The Nature of Fragile Things by Susan Meissner – Filled with shocking twists involving deception, bigamy, and survival amid the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, its plot revelations keep readers guessing. Most intense: Where the Lost Wander by Amy Harmon-Family killed in front of her, captured by Indians, yet in love with an Indian man. Let's journey to Middle Earth together! Readers meet Frodo, the unsuspecting beneficiary of Bilbo's ‘Ring'. This gift turns the innocent hobbit's world upside down. Frodo and his friends, Sam, Merry and Pippin set out on a quest to meet up with Gandalf the Grey which is no small task as Black Riders are trailing the travelers. Along the way they meet a Ranger, tall, lean, dark, who goes by the name of Strider. He tells Frodo his carelessness with the Ring has announced to the evil people that the hobbits are in town. Frodo receives a note of warning from Gandalf NOT to use the ring again. He also tells him his friend, Strider, (aka Aragorn) will help him get to Rivendell where he hopes to meet with him.Sacrifice and camaraderie are themes throughout the book. When plans fail there is no blame game. In this lecture, we explore a passage from Colossians 2:8 to Colossians 3:4, which serves as a vital reminder to Christians about their identities as followers of Christ. The speaker urges the audience to not be swayed by human philosophies and traditions that can lead individuals away from the core teachings of Jesus. The speaker emphasizes that in Christ lies the fullness of God, establishing that believers are complete through their connection with Him. This theological foundation sets the stage for a deeper understanding of spiritual identity and transformation. The speaker weaves in an analogy using the character Aragorn from "The Lord of the Rings," drawing parallels between Aragorn's hidden identity as king and the hidden identity of believers in Christ. Just as Aragorn ultimately embraces his true identity, the speaker encourages listeners to recognize and embrace their own identities as children of God. This transition into recognizing one's identity is essential for living authentically within the teachings of Christianity. The lecture further explains the transformative experience that baptism represents, which is not merely an outward ritual but a profound internal change that signifies being made alive in Christ. As the lecture progresses, the importance of rejecting false teachings and legalism becomes a focal point. The speaker discusses how early Christians in Colossae faced pressure to adhere to additional, unnecessary practices to attain spiritual depth, which detracted from the sufficiency of Christ. The speaker emphasizes that true transformation comes through a relationship with Christ, rather than through human efforts or adherence to specific regulations. The notion of spiritual resurrection is unpacked, indicating that believers have already begun to experience a new life in Christ that transcends worldly expectations and limitations. The exploration of “setting one's sights on the realities of heaven,” as articulated by Paul, emphasizes a shift in mindset. The lecture prompts listeners to contemplate what it means to center their thoughts and desires on heavenly things rather than earthly habits rooted in sin and self-indulgence. The speaker clarifies that this does not mean neglecting the world around them but rather transforming how they engage with it. An integral part of this transformation is understanding the role of self-denial as a means to redirect focus toward the divine rather than personal gain. The concept of glory is revisited towards the end of the session, portraying the ultimate assurance believers have in sharing in the glory of Christ. This hope serves as both a comfort and a catalyst for how they live their lives in the present. By highlighting the tension between current struggles and future promises, the speaker invites the audience to reflect on their aspirations and motivations, encouraging them to view their hidden life in Christ as one that will eventually be revealed in completeness. Overall, this lecture provides a thorough and insightful discourse that aims to empower Christians to fully embrace their identities as children of God, navigate their spiritual journey, and align their lives with Christ's character and purpose.
We wanted to cover a couple in the fantasy world…but that's tricky to do when our podcast is only about real-life couples! Thankfully, there is a beautiful love story behind the creator of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit: the story of J.R.R. Tolkien and Edith Bratt. Tolkien and Edith's love story began as star-crossed lovers, and their separation inspired Tolkien to write the story of Beren and Lúthien (and later Aragorn and Arwen). After years apart, they reunited, and endured Tolkien's enlistment in World War I, which he miraculously survived. Throughout their marriage, Tolkien scribbled away at his ‘fairy languages' and Middle Earth tales in any free time he found. But who was Edith Tolkien? The world knows little about her, and she makes few appearances in biographies about him. But surely that doesn't mean Tolkien cared more for elves and hanging with C.S. Lewis? ***** This is a teaser for a bonus episode— the full episode is 1 hour 49 minutes long! You can listen to it in full on Patreon. What happens when an immovable object meets an unstoppable force? And then both of those things meet Gimli? It's a question that the philosophers have debated for ages, and it was a question that was settled by JRR Tolkien in the chapter The Riders of Rohan, when Eomer meets Aragorn, and then Gimli steps in after something ticks him off.
