Welcome back to the ProfitSchool podcast Business Unfiltered with Mercer and Jeff Sauer today's topic is: More stupid things we do as Entrepreneurs. Introduction & Defining "Stupid Mistakes": Jeff Sauer and Chris Mercer humorously dive into the concept of “stupid things” entrepreneurs do—decisions that, in hindsight, could have been handled differently. They emphasize the importance of learning from these mistakes to avoid repeating them. Strategies for Avoiding Repeat Mistakes: Jeff shares the importance of seeking second opinions and recognizing emerging patterns. At the same time, Mercer highlights the role that awareness and planning play in stopping mistakes from happening again. Tactical Strategies for Smarter Actions: Mercer stresses the need for solid plans with clear milestones to avoid pointless activities. Jeff and Mercer emphasize that forecasting and learning from patterns are key strategies to prevent wasted time and effort. Common Business Mistakes:- Pricing & Client Targeting: Jeff shares a classic blunder—creating low-priced courses without calculating how many sales are needed to break even. The hosts agree on the dangers of catering to cheap clients rather than respecting the true value of your services. Hiring & Firing Decisions: Hiring too fast and firing too slow is identified as a common mistake. Jeff and Mercer advocate for testing new hires on a contract basis and being proactive in trimming underperforming team members to avoid long-term financial issues. Delegation & Small Task Management: Mercer discusses the importance of delegating small tasks to prevent them from piling up, while Jeff emphasizes planning and delegation to avoid burnout and inefficiency in managing day-to-day tasks. The Importance of Customer Feedback: Talking to customers and seeking feedback is flagged as a crucial business practice. Successful entrepreneurs spend more time understanding customer needs, which can lead to smarter product decisions.

I'm exhausted! Taking a break in beautiful Dubrovnik**Life is too short to worry about stupid things. Have fun, regret nothing and never let anyone bring you down. Due to the bus being delayed, the three hour ride turned into a six hour ride. I arrived in Dubrovnik in the evening and had to find my apartment lugging my suitcases across the old town. I was immediately impressed, though. The old town was complete and I could find an entrance to a 16th century stone wall. Along the way I discovered that they contained the old buildings and churches very well. After I arrived at my apartment, I cooked myself a healthy meal and felt content and got ready for bed. The next day, I woke up to this idyllic harbor view from my window. I also booked a walking tour from Airbnb experience. Kresmir was my guide that day. I met him at the entrance of the old town. I was the only guest. Kresmir ran a farm and airbnb business in the suburbs of Dubrovnik, and occasionally ran guided tours for the tourists in town. He told me many stories about Dubrovnik and we walked around every corner of the old town. I think when you arrive in a new place, hiring a guide could be a very rewarding experience. If I were walking alone by myself, I would miss so many details related to architecture. Some people might think it's not important, however, I would not make a connection quickly with a place where I only stay for a short time. He was very nice. After the guided tour he even invited me to white coffee in a cosy coffee house. It was the right decision to do the tour because after that, it rained for two days in Dubrovnik. It finally cleared up on the day I was leaving for Italy. However, I also regained the strength I needed to keep going. I was ready for my next stop in Italy. Stay tuned...there's much more to come! In the next episode I'll be sharing a story that happened in Italy.

So many stupid things cheaters say, it warranted a second podcast of your submissions. The Other Woman who is "rooting" for the chump's marriage. He seems to have forgotten that he's the one who told them to, “Go f-themselves.” Odd, that they didn't start throwing money at him after that. —JD Vance came out guns-a-lying when it comes to the service record of Minnesota governor (and newly minted vice presidential nominee) Tim Walz. Yes, the man who spent several months issuing press releases from an air conditioned office is trying to insult a man who spent 24-years in the service. Who will believe him? Only the dumbest of the dumb. —Right in line with Elon Musk not remembering what he told advertisers to do, and JD Vance not understanding the difference between several months in air conditioning and 24 years of service, Lara Trump actually went on television and said she would never take a position she didn't earn. I mean, except for the part where she became the chair of the RNC simply because she screws Donald Trump's son. Her lack of qualifications and experience aside, she earned that position. —A quick few minutes on the Summer Olympics. Idiots on Parade: we mock the news, so you don't have to. Steven Pinker is a world-renowned cognitive psychologist, and is widely regarded as one of the most important public intellectuals of our time. His work delves into the complexities of cognition, language, and social behavior, and his research offers a window into the fundamental workings of the human mind. Pinker, who is the author of nine books including Enlightenment Now: The Case for Reason, Science, Humanism and Progress and Rationality: What It Is, Why It Seems Scarce, Why It Matters, approaches his work with a kind of data-driven optimism about the world that has set him apart from the chorus of doomer voices we hear so much from in our public discourse. Today, we talk to Pinker about why smart people believe stupid things, the psychology of conspiracy theories, free speech and academic freedom, why democracy and enlightenment values are contrary to human nature, the moral panic around AI, and much more. Four time Tony Awards nominee David Korins lets us into his world as he talks about his creative process and the intricacies of set design. He shares insights into his work's detailed and often granular nature, emphasizing the importance of even the smallest elements in creating a believable world for actors and audiences alike. He discusses set design for complex productions like “Beetlejuice”, and how he and director Alex Timbers viewed the house as a character itself, which led to numerous model versions to perfect the design. For “Hamilton”, he recounts starting with imaginative sketches and how the final design emerged through collaboration and feedback. While it might not make sense to the audience at times, David underscores the importance of (unseen) detailed set elements, and how they play an important role in helping actors perform authentically. He reflects on coming up with set designs for different mediums and finding new techniques to make his visions come to life, highlighting the evolving role of technology in set design and using Dear Evan Hansen and “The Who's Tommy” as examples. With countless visions realized, David reveals that ultimately, he gets his motivation from the desire to help others realize their own. David Korins is an internationally recognized award-winning creative director and designer responsible for creating 360-degree, fully immersive, holistic experiences for some of the biggest stars, brands, and events worldwide and in theatre and Broadway. He brought to life the environments for smash hits like “Hamilton”, “Dear Evan Hansen”, “Beetlejuice”, and “Mrs. Doubtfire”, among many others. He's worked as a creative director for Mariah Carey, Kanye West, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Sia, and Andrea Bocelli to bring their musical visions to the stage. His film and TV experience includes series on HBO, CBS, Bravo, IFC, and PBS. He received the 2016 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Production Design for a Variety Special for “Grease: Live”. His scenic designs were seen last season in the play, “Just for Us”, and this season's “Here Lies Love” and “The Who's Tommy”. Instagram memories get me every time. One popped up from four years ago. It was an apartment workout series I filmed the first week of the pandemic.
