Vågar man testodla hampa helt öppet? In this episode of Stories from the River, CEO Charlie Malouf wraps up a four-part mini-series on Broad River Retail's approach to budgeting, financial discipline, and their own version of the "great game of business." This episode focuses on the Q & A segment with retail leaders and general managers, diving into the practicalities and philosophies behind their monthly budgeting process.  In this series, Charlie emphasizes transparency and the importance of learning from the company's early years, their pivotal 2015 moment, and the disciplined planning and forecasting that now defines their culture. He illustrates how rigorous budgeting serves not only to meet obligations and cover fixed expenses but also to fuel growth, mutual prosperity, and performance bonuses for Memory Makers. A standout example he mentions is the story of DASH, which encapsulates their approach to abundance and responsible planning. The Q & A discussion for this episode touches on recent successes—like 91 straight months of wins—and how the company invests significant profits back into the business, from opening new stores to shoring up inventory and paying down debt. The conversation also addresses challenges tied to expanding into non-adjacent markets (such as the Spokane project), and how risks are managed to protect the "mothership." Charlie and other contributors reiterate their commitment to fair and long-term decision-making, ensuring that any growth or new ventures are weighed carefully to sustain both the company and its Memory Makers.  The episode ends on a forward-looking note, previewing new series topics like The Lighthouse Fund, which aims to support Memory Makers in times of crisis, and celebrates the company's milestone of reaching its 300th podcast episode.
