After Morgoth is defeated and captured, Sauron repents of his deeds, but upon facing a sentence from Manwë flees into Middle-earth and returns to his evil ways. After the War of Wrath, Beleriand is destroyed and swallowed by the sea up to Ered Luin. Gil-galad rules Lindon by the Gulf of Lhûn just east of Ered Luin. Teleri elves from Doriath and Ossiriand move inland and dwell among Silvan Elves. The remaining Noldor dwell in Eregion near Khazad-dûm and prosper in friendship with the Dwarves. Sauron seeks to gain influence over the Noldori Elves. He wins them over by insisting that he desires to make Middle-earth a great land. He calls himself Lord of Gifts and shares his knowledge and lore with them. The Elves create several Rings of Power. Sauron creates his One Ring in order to control the wearers of the other rings. Due to their might, he is forced to put much of his strength into the One Ring, but he is able to see all that is done by the wearers of the Rings of Power. The Elves sense him and remove their rings. In anger, Sauron makes open war on them and demands that they give over the rings since they were made with his lore. En este capítulo, se narra la caída del reino de Doriath. Todo comienza cuando Húrin, liberado por Morgoth, llega a Doriath con el Nauglamír, un collar de gran valor. The Man of the West has heard your pleas, and will return to the forests of Doriath for another series in The Lay of Leithian. Today's episode features anguish, jealousy, and dancing lessons.

En este capítulo, los últimos hombres de la casa de Bëor se establecen cerca de un lago en Dorthonion. Húrin encounters Mîm in Nargothrond and slays him. As he journeys eastward, he is taken to King Thingol. He casts the Nauglamír, Necklace of Dwarves at Thingol's feet and berates him for the loss of his wife and children. Melian attempts to reason with him, assuring him that Túrin, Morwen, and Nienor were welcomed with honor in Doriath. Túrin is welcomed by Orodreth, and he wins renown. Finduilas' heart is turned to Túrin. Gwindor warns Finduilas of his doom and the curse of Morgoth against the children of Húrin. Orodreth takes Túrin as a counselor, and Nargothrond flourishes and grows in might. Morwen and Nienor at last flee to Doriath, but find that Túrin is gone. After three years in the wilderness, he returns, and Mablung witnesses his involvement in the death of a Nandor. Beren journeys into Nargothrond and tells Felagund his story. Felagund sees that the Oath of Fëanor is again at work. And the Doom of Mandos survives. Felagund decides to depart with Beren to attempt to steal back the Silmarils. The two of them and several trusted companions disguise themselves as orcs and come to Tol-in-Gaurhoth, Sauron's outpost. He battles Felagund in song, and overcomes him, taking Beren and the others captive. Lúthien leaves Doriath, hoping to save Beren from his distress. She is found by Huan, the wolfhound of Celegorm. The sons of Fëanor trick her into returning to Nargothrond and hold her captive there. The group arrives at the Calacirya (The Pass of Light). From there they march up the Hill of Túna toward the great Noldor city of Tirion. Before they arrive, they encounter some long passed associates of Túrin: Finduilas of Nargothrond, Beleg Cúthalion of Doriath, and Mîm the Petty-dwarf. They don't look happy about being brought back to life, for ill-purpose.

In Chapter 22 of The Silmarillion, Húrin is released from Angband to finish his son’s work of destroying everything he touches, and his visit to Thingol starts a chain reaction leading to war between Doriath and the Dwarves of Nogrod. As Menegroth falls, the Silmaril comes through the hands of Beren and Lúthien to their son Dior, and is noticed by seven guys we haven’t heard from in a while. Plus, a look at Tolkien's explanation of the kinship of Celeborn and Nimloth tells us how to get to Sesame Street.

We conclude our trilogy of episodes on Chapter 21 of The Silmarillion, "Of Túrin Turambar." After Glaurung sacks Nargothrond, Morwen pulls a Thingol and ignores Melian's advice. She leaves Doriath, Nienor secretly follows, and the dragon ensnares another child of Húrin. We witness a fateful reunion of brother and sister, and the final showdown between hero and dragon. We close the sad tale with a discussion of fate, free will, pity and mean, mean pride in a marathon podcast that challenges popular opinions about Tolkien's tragic hero... and the stamina of your hosts.

Alan and Shawn begin yet another trilogy of episodes — this time on The Silmarillion Chapter 21, “Of Túrin Turambar.” The son of Húrin of Dor-lómin is fostered by the King of Doriath, but an awkward dinner party drives him to a life among outlaws. Fleeing from his own fate, he manages to bring disaster wherever he goes, and he’s headed to Nargothrond next. We give an overview of the history of the story Tolkien called the “germ” of his mythology and — surprise! — we quote Monty Python.

The first of three episodes on The Silmarillion Chapter 19, "Of Beren and Lúthien." The fugitive son of Barahir comes to Doriath and has a fateful meeting with the daughter of Thingol. Unimpressed with Lúthien's new boyfriend, Thingol sends Beren on an impossible quest to win her hand. We discuss the personal significance of the story Tolkien called "the kernel of the mythology" and compare excerpts from the epic poem The Lay of Leithian. Plus, what do Thingol and Archie Bunker have in common?
