This week's edition of the Overdrive Radio podcast features an expansive discussion I had with longtime professional trucker Tom Kyrk about his involvement in the relatively new TNC Radio streaming station, gearing itself to speak directly to drivers -- predominantly but not entirely in trucking, as it were. As Kyrk tells, a sizable portion of the content tries to hit the intersection between pro four-wheeled drivers and all of you, Class 8 owners and drivers: https://tncradio.live/ Kyrk's gotten involved interviewing guests and contributing in various ways after a decade and a half-plus trucking career, all of it as a company driver. As he tells in the beginning portion of today's podcast, he spent 14 years with Stevens Transport before in recent years moving over in a team operation to IBI Secured Transport. Also in the podcast: A bit of a public service announcement from Overdrive and the readership that's directed to everybody's four-wheeled friends about sharing the road -- at the very end. Here's a link to where that PSA originally aired: https://www.overdriveonline.com/overdrive-radio/podcast/14897719/channel-onenine-special-from-over-the-road-drivers-ed

Episode 017- If your only knowledge of what big rig truckers do is informed by Smokey and the Bandit and Convoy, you'll find that the stereotype of hard living, hell raisers is largely inaccurate. In Tom Kyrk's blog, Road Tested Living, he shares his life living as a trucker. Those adventures include being part of the trucker's food culture, and, yes, there is a trucker's food culture. This includes not only eating at diners and truck stops. It also means cooking in the close quarters of the back of one's rig. In this episode you'll learn how that happens. You'll also get Tom's recommendations of excellent places around the country to grab some grub. He also talks about a cookbook for truckers that he coauthored called The Rolling Kitchen Cookbook. Professional Drivers face many obstacles, one of them being ill or injured while traveling far from home and even hundreds of miles from a care facility. What do they do? FMCSA Introduces Driver Wellness Programs Last month the FMCSA announced a joint meeting of its Motor Carrier Safety Advisory Committee (MCSAC) and Medical Review Board (MRB) Together, the MCSAC and MRB worked to identify concepts the Agency and stakeholders should consider in relation to the issue of health and wellness of drivers of commercial motor vehicles and the establishment of a driver wellness initiative, a non-regulatory public-private partnership of stakeholders to improve drivers' health The FMCSA allowed public comments as well as written comments via the portal. "Truck Driver Health- The "best" health program for you is.... " Thursday 6PM ET 347-826-917 As move forward with Driver Health discussions we realize more and more that there is no "one size fits all health program" . If you believe there is, you're setting yourself up for failure. We can take in all the information we want, but the bottom line is we need to apply knowledge to our lives, and what works for John, may not work for Mary, and yet John and Mary are BOTH improving their health. How could that be? Although than most people concerned about health will agree to avoid: processed foods, trans fats, GMO's, sugar, soda ,artificial ingredients and chemicals, pesticides, herbicides..... AND to increase organic food, water consumption, exercise,.... There still needs to be that all important consideration of the Person making the change. So what diet is best? Here's a few choices : Paleo Diet, Vegan Diet, Vegetarian Diet, Raw Diet, Zone Diet, Atkins Diet... and the list goes on. Join us tonight as Donna Smith of Trucking Social Media and Tom Kyrk of Road Tested Living discuss the absolute BEST health program for YOU... Call us and share how you either have achieved, or are in the process of achieving your goal towards PERSONALIZED optimal health. Haven't Decided which health program is best for you?
