Arjuna is Seeing the Universal Form and Describing it in great Wonder
O best of the Bhāratas, see here the different manifestations of Ādityas, Vasus, Rudras, Aśvinī-kumāras and all the other demigods. Behold the many wonderful things which no one has ever seen or heard of before. O Arjuna, whatever you wish to see, behold at once in this body of Mine! This universal form can show you whatever you now desire to see and whatever you may want to see in the future. Everything – moving and nonmoving – is here completely, in one place. But you cannot see Me with your present eyes. Therefore I give you divine eyes. Behold My mystic opulence! Sañjaya said: O King, having spoken thus, the Supreme Lord of all mystic power, the Personality of Godhead, displayed His universal form to Arjuna. Arjuna saw in that universal form unlimited mouths, unlimited eyes, unlimited wonderful visions. The form was decorated with many celestial ornaments and bore many divine upraised weapons. He wore celestial garlands and garments, and many divine scents were smeared over His body. All was wondrous, brilliant, unlimited, all-expanding. If hundreds of thousands of suns were to rise at once into the sky, their radiance might resemble the effulgence of the Supreme Person in that universal form. At that time Arjuna could see in the universal form of the Lord the unlimited expansions of the universe situated in one place although divided into many, many thousands. Then, bewildered and astonished, his hair standing on end, Arjuna bowed his head to offer obeisances and with folded hands began to pray to the Supreme Lord......
The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: The indestructible, transcendental living entity is called Brahman, and his eternal nature is called adhyātma, the self. Action pertaining to the development of the material bodies of the living entities is called karma, or fruitive activities. O best of the embodied beings, the physical nature, which is constantly changing, is called adhibhūta [the material manifestation]. The universal form of the Lord, which includes all the demigods, like those of the sun and moon, is called adhidaiva. And I, the Supreme Lord, represented as the Supersoul in the heart of every embodied being, am called adhiyajña [the Lord of sacrifice].....

To nurture and intensify Arjun's devotion, Shri Krishna had described His divine vibhūtis (opulence) in the previous chapter. Towards the end, He had mentioned that all the beauty, glory, and power are just a spark of His immeasurable splendor. Hearing this, Arjun became curious. Shri Krishna concluded this chapter by instructing Arjuna on how to attain Ishvara. The key qualification is ananya bhakti or single-pointed devotion. Combined with karma yoga, jnana yoga, subduing likes and dislikes, and giving up attachment to the material world, we are able to access Ishvara in his cosmic form. The shloka enabled us to see the one Ishvara in everything, the one in all. This chapter urges us to see them all in one. - Send in a Voice Message - https://anchor.fm/spirituallearningpodcast/message
Shri Krishna reveals the means by which we can access Ishvara's cosmic form. “Ananya bhakti”, is the only means to access Ishvara. We have come across the term “Ananya” in prior chapters. It means that in which there is no “Anya”, no other. We should not be devoted to Ishvara so that we can get something else. The devotion should be for obtaining Ishvara and nothing else. Verse 55 is this concluding shloka of the eleventh chapter which considers the essence of the entire Bhagavad Gita. Shri Krishna says that Isvara can be attained by following five guidelines: perform actions for the sake of Ishvara, fix Ishvara as the ultimate goal, observe undivided devotion (Ananya Bhakti) to Ishvara, remain free from worldly attachments, do not harbor likes or dislikes. - Send in a Voice Message - https://anchor.fm/spirituallearningpodcast/message
The logic behind this verse (48)is very straightforward. Our physical eyes are made from matter, and hence all that we can see is also material. The Supreme Lord is non-material - he is divine. To have a vision of his divine form we need divine eyes. When God bestows his grace upon the soul, he adds his divine power to our material eyes, and only then can we see him. The basic spiritual principle is that God cannot be known by the strength of one's efforts. However, those who engage in devotion to him become recipients of his grace. Then, by virtue of his grace, they are easily able to know him. - Send in a Voice Message - https://anchor.fm/spirituallearningpodcast/message
Every plan is made by the Supreme Personality of Godhead, but He is so kind and merciful to His devotees that He wants to give the credit to His devotees who carry out His plan according to His desire. The plans of the Supreme Personality of Godhead are understood by His mercy, and the plans of the devotees are as good as His plans. One should follow such plans and be victorious in the struggle for existence. Having understood the workings of Ishvara's universe, Arjuna responds with the powerful word “sthaane”, which means everything that is going on is right, everything is in its place. As we saw earlier, we tend to question Ishvara every time there is a massive calamity, either at a personal level or at a global level. Or, we sometimes ask Ishvara to let things be a certain way. But when we understand that Ishvara is behind it all, and is orchestrating events for the benefit of the entire universe and not just a subset, we too, are compelled to say “sthaane”, it is all right. - Send in a Voice Message - https://anchor.fm/spirituallearningpodcast/message
Title: Arjuna's Vision of the Universal Form of the Divine11th chapter: verses 12-18In the 11th chapter, Arjuna experiences the vision of the universal form of the divine. Lord Krishna shows Arjuna his divine form. This cosmic divine form transcends our concept of time and space. Lord Krishna shows that all the different creatures, animals, suns, moons, stars, galaxies, human beings, celestial beings – they all originate, exist, dissolve and re-emerge within that cosmic divine form. When Arjuna gets this vision, he is freed from all doubts. Imagine that we are given a vision of how every minute, beings are born, beings are dying, they make money, they lose money – then our doubts will be dispelled. This is what happened to Arjuna when he saw the divine form. Human life becomes a problem when we relate to a specific experience at a moment. If we can extend this vision backward to the past and forward to the future, then we can see the reality beyond time. We understand the insignificant nature of our present worries. In Vishwa-Rupa-Darshana (vision of the divine form), the Absolute Reality is conceived as one physical all-pervading reality. Every effort to explain this one, infinite, reality is only an approximation. Purusha-Suktam of Rig Veda says: this reality is both immanent in the manifested world and yet transcendent to it. It is infinite and beyond words. It transcends the triple dimensions of time.Lord Krishna granted this vision to Arjuna, not through a special eye, but by removing the impurities from Arjuna's mind. Normally, our mind is clouded with impurities from our past samskaras that prevent us from realizing our true nature. Higher mystical thoughts emerge when we turn the journey inward, in pursuit of the truth. In the next few verses, Arjuna and Sanjaya describe this vision of the Absolute Reality, which is all-pervading, immanent and transcendental.12th and 13th verse: Sanjaya says: “This cosmic effulgence is like the combined effulgence of thousands of suns rising in the east. Arjuna saw in one point the entire cosmic life manifesting in so many ways in the past, present and future.”14th verse: Sanjaya says: “When Arjuna saw this vision, he was overwhelmed and struck with wonder. He folded his hands and prayed to Lord Krishna.”15th verse: Arjuna says: “I see in You all the gods and goddesses. I see Brahma the creator. I see the point of origin, existence and dissolution. I see saints and sages. I see different creations and so many different manifestations in You.”16th verse: Arjuna says: “I see You as the boundless form, as the infinite reality, with manifold arms, stomachs, mouths and eyes. However, I see neither Your end, nor the middle nor the beginning, O Lord of the universal form.”How can a human explain the infinite? He can only use finite tools to explain the infinite. These verses are poetic – they sing about the absolute reality but do not define it.17th verse: Arjuna says: “I see You with diadem, club and discus, a mass of radiance shining everywhere which is like the blazing sun and fire everywhere, and immeasurable.”Lord Krishna presented himself as Vishnu, who has these external symbols, for blessing and protection of creation.18th verse: “You are the totality of existence. You are indestructible. You are the supreme truth to be realized. You are the supreme abode of the universe. You are inexhaustible. You are the protector of dharma. You are eternal and unchanging. You are the purusha – the divine spark that is immanent and all-pervading.”Dharma refers to the ethical and moral principles through which we preserve, sustain, regulate and protect the universe. For example, it is immoral to pollute the earth and therefore against Dharma.
Many of us sometimes think, what will happen if I stop working one day? Lest we attach undue importance to our actions and puff up our ego, Shri Krishna gives us a lesson in humility. He reveals that ultimately, it is he who is running the show. If he wants to do something, he will do it with whatever means available. Shri Krishna has revealed to Arjun his will that the Kauravas should perish and the kingdom of Hastinapur should be administered by the Pandavas in accordance with the rules of dharma. He has already decided the annihilation of the unrighteous and the victory of the righteous as the outcome of the battle. He now informs Arjun that he wishes him to be the nimitta-mātram, or the instrument of his work. Opportunities that come our way to accomplish something for the pleasure of the Lord are very special blessings. It is by taking these opportunities that we attract his special grace and achieve our permanent position as the servant of God. Here is the crux of karma yoga. If we fulfill our duties with a spirit of detachment, we align ourselves with Ishvara's vision. We become a “nimitta” or an instrument of Ishvara. But if we assert our selfish desires and our will, we only entrap ourselves in the material world and set ourselves up for a painful existence. - Send in a Voice Message - https://anchor.fm/spirituallearningpodcast/message
In the first verse of this chapter, Arjun recalls the root cause of his panic attack from the first chapter which is moha or delusion which caused confusion between his duty as a warrior and as a family member. He now says that his delusion has been dispelled. How did that happen? It is only because Shri Krishna revealed the knowledge of the self, Adhyaatma vidyaa, to Arjuna, the answer to the question “who am I?” Now, we may think that there was something special in Arjuna that qualified him to receive this supreme knowledge. Arjuna was humble enough to acknowledge that it was purely out of compassion that Shri Krishna showered his grace upon him and gave him this knowledge. Only through the grace and compassion of Ishvara and a qualified spiritual guide can one receive this knowledge. Send in a Voice Message - https://anchor.fm/spirituallearningpodcast/message

In order to safeguard the general mass of people against the false incarnations of Kali-Yuga, Arjuna asks Krishna to explain how he enters this universe. In response, Lord Krishna offers Arjuna divine vision and shows him a form which no one has seen ever before..
In this chapter, we explain the meaning of Krishna’s Universal Form. Vishawaroopam is the cosmic consciousness and its manifestation as the entire universe. Gita has illustrated a symbolic and personified form of Brahmanda or the Universe. Krishna shows Ishvara’s pleasant form. But Arjuna’s amazement turns into fear as he witnesses the transformation of Ishvara’s cosmic form. The “Soumya roopa” or the pleasant form morphed into the “Ugra roopa”, the fear-inducing form. Learn why Krishna shows both creative and destructive sides of the Universe.

Chapter 11: Viśhwarūp Darśhan Yog Yog through Beholding the Cosmic Form of God To nurture and intensify Arjun's devotion, Shree Krishna had described His divine vibhūtis (opulence) in the previous chapter. Towards the end, He had mentioned that all the beauty, glory, and power is just a spark of His immeasurable splendor. Hearing this, Arjun became curious. In this chapter, he requests the Lord to show him His viśhwarūp, or the infinite cosmic form. Shree Krishna grants Arjun divine vision to see His infinite-form that comprises all the universes. Arjun sees the entire creation in the body of the God of gods with unlimited arms, faces, and stomachs. It has no beginning or end and extends immeasurably in all directions. His radiance is similar to a thousand suns blazing together in the sky. The sight dazzles Arjun, and his hair stands on end. He witnesses the three worlds trembling with fear of God's laws and the celestial gods taking His shelter. He can see several sages offering prayers and singing hymns exalting God. Then Arjun sees the Kauravas, along with their allies, rushing into the mouth of this formidable form, who look like moths rushing with great speed toward the fire to perish. Beholding this universal form, Arjun confesses that his heart and mind are unstable with fear. Although petrified by the appearance, Arjun wants to know the identity of this breath-taking form of God, who has no resemblance to his teacher and friend Shree Krishna. The Lord declares that in the form of Time, He is the destroyer of the three worlds. He has already destroyed the Kaurava warriors, and the Pandavas' victory is certain. Therefore, Arjun should not be fearful anymore. He should just get up and fight. Overwhelmed, Arjun starts praising the Lord who, in His infinite forms, pervades the entire universe and offers several salutations to His majestic form. He also begs for forgiveness to Shree Krishna for any offenses or acts of disrespect he may have committed in ignorance, considering Him to be a mere human. Arjun then pleads the Lord for His grace and requests Him to take a pleasing form. Shree Krishna then manifests into His four-armed form, carrying a mace, disc, conch shell, and lotus flower in each arm. Soon after, He resumes His gentle and loving two-armed form of the charming Shree Krishna. He then tells Arjun that before Him, no one has ever seen God in this primeval cosmic form. Even those who study the Vedas, do severe penance, charity or fire sacrifices, etc., do not get this opportunity. Only with unalloyed devotion similar to Arjun can one see God, get to know Him, and attain Yog or union with Him. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/spiritual-gupshup/message

We begin the 2nd stage of evolution as it moves from the individual Archaic) to the collective. This is the Tribal stage or level. Tribal begins with a very closed understanding. For example, the beginning is limited to biology/genealogy. Abraham is the Genesis of Tribal consciousness. Time Magazine, in 2002, wrote about the significance of Abraham in religious history. Time labels Abraham as a representative of particularism. But is that a fair assessment? Is that true but partial? Could Abraham take God Identity from the particular to the universal? If Adam is a universal symbol for sin and death, could Abraham be a symbol of deliverance from sin and death into a universal symbol of life? Abraham is always related to the concept of Promise. The Promise begins in 1st tier as a great nation (singular). The Promise finds its fulfillment in 2nd tier by God blessing ALL THE NATIONS. **NOTE: Use the VENN. Nation to all Nations/Particular to Universal/Form to Formless/Religion to Spirituality itself.** Is Christianity a 2000 year old form or particularism? Is it time for another growth movement in our interpretation? We acknowledge that millions still find Jesus as a religion as meeting their life conditions. But, we begin a new conversation for those who have left Christianity and those who are seeing Jesus as God’s servant for an ALL NATIONS (universal) outcome. Romans 1:17 “for the righteousness of God is being revealed from faith to faith.” This faith to faith trajectory is defined as faith of Abraham to faith of Christ. Abraham introduces spiritual consciousness beyond the self, meaning, that faith looks or reaches outward. Adam introduced self as source (of God identity) and now Tribal Abraham, through faith, introduces all that lies beyond the self, which is to say, all that relates to the realm of Formlessness, Spirit and God.
