Great Restoration and Revival (1) (audio) David Eells 10/8/25 Tommy Hicks – 7/25/1961 (David's notes in red) (This is a powerful vision given to American preacher Tommy Hicks, who was a major figure in the 1954 Argentina Revival.) A vision of the Body of Christ in the End-time ministries. (My message begins July 25, about 2:30 in the morning at Winnipeg, Canada. I had hardly fallen asleep when the vision and the revelation that God gave me came before me. The vision came three times, exactly in detail, the morning of July 25, 1961. I was so stirred and so moved by the revelation that this has changed my complete outlook upon the body of Christ, and upon the end-time ministries. The greatest thing that the church of Jesus Christ has ever been given lies straight ahead. It is so hard to help men and women to realize and understand the thing that God is trying to give his people in the end times. I received a letter several weeks ago from one of our native evangelists down in Africa, down in Nairobi. This man and his wife were on their way to Tanganyika. They could neither read nor could they write, but we had been supporting them for over two years. As they entered into the territory of Tanganyika, they came across a small village. The entire village was evacuating because of a plague that had hit the village. He came across natives who were weeping, and he asked them what was wrong. They told him of their mother and father who had suddenly died, and they had been dead for three days. They had to leave. They were afraid to go in; they were leaving them in the cottage. He turned and asked them where they were. They pointed to the hut and he asked them to go with him, but they refused. They were afraid to go. The native and his wife went to this little cottage and entered where the man and woman had been dead for three days. He simply stretched forth his hand in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and spoke the man's name and the woman's name and said, “In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I command life to come back to your bodies.” Instantaneously, these two heathen people who had never known Jesus Christ as their Savior sat up and immediately began to praise God. The spirit and the power of God came into the life of those people. To us that may seem strange and a phenomenon, but that is the beginning of these end-time ministries.  (I talked to a sister 3-6-25 whose husband had been dead for 81/2 months when I called him back in the name of Jesus and by the grace of God he came to her in her kitchen. In another case a husband, wife and children had been killed by Satanists as witnessed by Eve and my angel and I called them back and all immediately returned by God's grace. God can use a donkey. Back to Tommy's message.) God is going to take the do-nothings, the nobodies, the unheard-of, the no-accounts. He is going to take every man and every woman and he is going to give them this outpouring of the Spirit of God. In the Book of Acts, we read that “In the last days,” God said, “I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh.” I wonder if we realized what God meant when He said, “I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh.” I do not think I fully realized nor could I understand the fullness of it, and then I read from the Book of Joel: “Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the Lord your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain…” (Joel 2:23). …He is going to give to his people in these last days a double portion of the power of God!) As the vision appeared to me after I was asleep, I suddenly found myself in a great high distance. Where I was, I do not know. But I was looking down upon the earth. Suddenly the whole earth came into my view. Every nation, every kindred, every tongue came before my sight from the east and the west, the north and the south. I recognized every country and many cities that I had been in, and I was almost in fear and trembling as I beheld the great sight before me: and at that moment when the world came into view, it began to lightning and thunder. As the lightning flashed over the face of the earth, my eyes went downward and I was facing the north. Suddenly I beheld what looked like a great giant, and as I stared and looked at it, I was almost bewildered by the sight. It was so gigantic and so great. His feet seemed to reach to the north pole and his head to the south. Its arms were stretched from sea to sea. (Meaning: A great corporate body of saints.) I could not even begin to understand whether this was a mountain or a giant, but as I watched, I suddenly beheld a great giant. I could see his head was struggling for life. He wanted to live, but his body was covered with debris from head to foot (Sin and false doctrines), and at times this great giant would move his body and act as though it would even raise up at times. And when it did, thousands of little creatures seemed to run away. (Demons) Hideous creatures would run away from this giant, and when he would become calm, they would come back. All of a sudden this great giant lifted his hand towards heaven, and then it lifted its other hand (Praising the Lord!), and when it did, these creatures by the thousands seemed to flee away from this giant and go into the darkness of the night. Slowly this great giant began to rise and as he did, his head and hands went into the clouds. As he rose to his feet he seemed to have cleansed himself from the debris and filth that was upon him, and he began to raise his hands into the heavens as though praising the Lord, and as he raised his hands, they went even unto the clouds. Suddenly, every cloud became silver, the most beautiful silver (purified through heavenly fire) I have ever known. As I watched this phenomenon, it was so great, I could not even begin to understand what it all meant. I was so stirred as I watched it, and I cried unto the Lord and I said, “Oh Lord, what is the meaning of this?” and I felt as if I was actually in the Spirit and I could feel the presence of the Lord even as I was asleep. And from those clouds suddenly there came great drops of liquid light raining down upon this mighty giant (light is truth), and slowly, slowly, this giant began to melt, began to sink itself in the very earth itself, and as he melted (bearing their cross), his whole form seemed to have melted upon the face of the earth, and this great rain began to come down. Liquid drops of light began to flood the very earth itself, and as I watched this giant that seemed to melt, suddenly it became millions of people over the face of the earth. As I beheld the sight before me, people stood up all over the world! They were lifting their hands and they were praising the Lord. At that very moment, there came a great thunder that seemed to roar from the heavens. I turned my eyes toward the heavens and suddenly I saw a figure in white, in glistening white; the most glorious thing that I have ever seen in my entire life. I did not see the face, but somehow I knew it was the Lord Jesus Christ, and he stretched forth his hand, and as he did, he would stretch it forth to one, and to another, and to another. And as he stretched forth his hand upon the nations and the people of the world, men and women, as he pointed toward them, this liquid light seemed to flow from his hands into them, and a mighty anointing of God came upon them (The latter rain), and those people began to go forth in the name of the Lord. I do not know how long I watched it. It seemed it went into days and weeks and months. And I beheld this Christ as he continued to stretch forth his hand, but there was a tragedy. There were many people, as he stretched forth his hand, who refused the anointing of God and the call of God. I saw men and women that I knew. People that I felt would certainly receive the call of God. But as he stretched forth his hand toward this one and toward that one, they simply bowed their head and began to back away. And each of those that seemed to bow down and back away seemed to go into darkness. Blackness seemed to swallow them everywhere. (Faction and falling away) I was bewildered as I watched it, but these people that he had anointed, hundreds of thousands of people all over the world, in Africa, England, Russia, China, America, all over the world, the anointing of God was upon these people as they went forward in the name of the Lord. I saw these men and women as they went forth. They were ditch diggers, they were washerwomen, they were rich men, they were poor men. I saw people who were bound with paralysis and sickness and blindness and deafness. As the Lord stretched forth to give them this anointing, they became well, they became healed, and they went forth exactly as the Lord did. And this is the miracle of it - this is the glorious miracle of it. It seemed as if there was this same liquid fire in their hands - those people would stretch forth their hands and say, “According to my word, be thou made whole.” These people continued in this mighty end-time ministry. I did not fully realize what it was, and I looked to the Lord and said, “What is the meaning of this?” And he said, “This is that which I will do in the last days. I will restore all that the cankerworm, the palmerworm, the caterpillar - I will restore all that they have destroyed. This, my people, in the end times will go forth. As a mighty army shall they sweep over the face of the earth.” As I was at this great height, I could behold the whole world. I watched these people as they were going to and fro over the face of the earth. Suddenly there was a man in Africa and in a moment he was transported by the Spirit of God, and perhaps he was in Russia, or China or America or some other place, and vice versa. All over the world these people went, and they came through fire, and through pestilence, and through famine. Neither fire nor persecution, nothing seemed to stop them. Angry mobs came to them with swords and with guns. And like Jesus, they passed through the multitudes and they could not find them, but they went forth in the name of the Lord, and everywhere they stretched forth their hands, the sick were healed, the blind eyes were opened. There was not a long prayer. And after I had reviewed the vision many times in my mind, and I thought about it many times, I realized that I never saw a church, and I never saw or heard a denomination, but these people were going in the name of the Lord of Hosts. Hallelujah! As they marched forth in everything they did, as the ministry of Christ in the end times, these people were ministering to the multitudes over the face of the earth. Tens of thousands, even millions, seemed to come to the Lord Jesus Christ as these people stood forth and gave the message of the kingdom, of the coming kingdom, in this last hour. It was so glorious, but it seems as though there were those who rebelled, and they would become angry and they tried to attack those workers who were giving the message. (As in Jesus' day so it is in ours) God is going to give the world a demonstration in this last hour that the world has never known. These men and women are of all walks of life; degrees will mean nothing. I saw these workers as they were going over the face of the earth. When one would stumble and fall, another would come and pick him up. There were no “big I's” and “little you's,” but every mountain was brought low and every valley was exalted, and they seemed to have one thing in common - there was a divine love, a divine love that seemed to flow forth from these people as they worked together, and as they lived together. It was the most glorious sight that I have ever known. Jesus Christ was the theme of their life. They continued and it seemed days went by as I stood and beheld this sight. I could only cry, and sometimes I laughed. It was so wonderful as these people went throughout the face of the whole earth, bringing forth in this last end time. As I watched from the very heaven itself, there were times when great deluges of this liquid light seemed to fall upon great congregations, and they would lift up their hands and seemingly praise God for hours and even days as the Spirit of God came upon them. God said, “I will pour my Spirit upon all flesh,” and that is exactly this thing. And to every man and woman that received this power and anointing of God, the miracles were without end. (We have talked about miracles. We have talked about signs and wonders, but I could not help but weep as I read again this morning, at 4 o'clock the letter from our native workers. This is only the evidence of the beginning for one man, a “do-nothing, an unheard-of,” who would go and stretch forth his hand and say, “In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I command life to flow into your body.” I dropped to my knees and began to pray again, and I said, “Lord, I know that this time is coming soon!”) And then again, as these people were going about the face of the earth, a great persecution seemed to come from every angle. Suddenly, there was another great clap of thunder that seemed to resound around the world, and I heard again the voice that seemed to speak, “Now this is my people. This is my beloved bride.” (In Revelation, we see the Bride in her “lampros,” liquid light garment who has been doing miracles all over the world. Rev.19:7 Let us rejoice and be exceeding glad, and let us give the glory unto him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. 8 And it was given unto her that she should array herself in fine linen, bright (Lampros) and pure: for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints. John the Baptist saw Jesus' first fruits disciples and called them the Bride for he said, “He that hath the Bride is the Bridegroom.” This Bride went forth to do miracles in the gospels and in Acts and to pass this anointing on to the rest of the church. Then in Revelation we see the rest of the church in a white or “leukos” garment who are invited to the marriage. Rev.19:14 And the armies which are in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white (Leukos) and pure. And below we will see in Tommy's revelation the dead in Christ rising to be joined with them at the end of the seven-year tribulation.) And when the voice spoke, I looked upon the earth and I could see the lakes and the mountains. The graves were opened, and people from all over the world, the saints of all ages, seemed to be rising. (The dead in Christ will rise first.) And as they rose from the grave, suddenly all these people came from every direction. From the East and the West, from the North and the South, and they seemed to be forming again this gigantic body. As the dead in Christ seemed to be rising first I could hardly comprehend it. It was so marvelous. It was so far beyond anything I could ever dream or think of. But as this body suddenly began to form and take shape again, it was in the form of this mighty giant, but this time it was different. It was arrayed in the most beautiful, gorgeous white. (In Rev.19:14 this is the white or “leukos” garments of the church.) Its garments were without spot or wrinkle as its body began to form, and the people of all ages seemed to be gathered into this body, and slowly, slowly, as it began to form up into the very heavens, suddenly from the heavens above, the Lord Jesus came, and became the head.  (Now, Jesus is the head of the Bride, John said was Jerusalem, just as David, as a type of the Man-child reformers, was head of the Bride, Jerusalem. In this way Jesus and David were also the head of the rest of the Body of Israel; a type of the Church. We see this same relationship of Esther as the Bride head of the body of Israel and the Shulammite in Song of Solomon as the Bride head of Israel.) I heard another clap of thunder that said, “This is my beloved bride for whom I have waited. She will come forth even tried by fire. This is she that I have loved from the beginning of time.” As I watched, my eyes suddenly turned to the far north, and I saw destruction of men and women in anguish and crying out, and buildings in destruction. Then I heard again, the fourth voice that said, “Now is My wrath being poured out upon the face of the earth.” (The Day of the Lord's wrath upon those who persecuted God's people.) From the ends of the whole world, the wrath of God seemed to be poured out and it seemed that there were great vials of God's wrath being poured out upon the face of the earth. (The seals and trumps of the tribulation were followed by the vials of wrath in the day of the Lord. There are seven years before the Bride and Church are caught up followed by the year of wrath on the wicked who persecuted them. Isa.34:8 For Jehovah hath a day of vengeance, a year of recompense for the cause of Zion.) I can remember it as though it happened a moment ago. I shook and trembled as I beheld the awful sight of seeing the cities and whole nations going down into destruction. I could hear the weeping and wailing. I could hear people crying. They seemed to cry as they went into caves, but the caves in the mountains opened up. They leaped into the water, but the water would not drown them. There was nothing that could destroy them. They were wanting to take their lives, but they could not. Then again I turned my eyes to this glorious sight, this body arrayed in beautiful white, shining garments. Slowly, slowly, it began to lift from the earth, and as it did, I awoke. (This is the catching up of the lampros Bride and white Church body at the end of the tribulation before the Great and Terrible Day of the Lord.) What a sight I had beheld! I had seen the end-time ministries - the last hour. Again, on July 27, at 2:30 in the morning, the same revelation, the same vision came again exactly as it did before. My life has been changed as I realized that we are living in that end time, for all over the world God is anointing men and women with this ministry. It will not be doctrine. It will not be a churchianity. It is going to be Jesus Christ. They will give forth the word of the Lord. I heard it said so many times in the vision, “And according to my word it shall be done.”   Joel's Restoration Begins Sandy Shaw - 3/30/12 (David's notes in red) In this dream we were in a place that looked like Tahlequah, Oklahoma but it was bigger and prettier. It was really beautiful. (In Cherokee, Tahlequah means, “just two or two is enough”. Just as Jesus sent out the disciples and the 70 two by two, so it will be in our day when Jesus in the Man-child ministers will send out the two witnesses in the Great Revival.) There were a lot of people from UBM there, not just local but from all over. The people there were like-minded. There were many ages, from babies all the way up to old men. There was singing, praying, eating, and all kinds of fellowship and the kids were playing. It was like in a big meadow with a lot of shade trees. There was just ‘a oneness' there; it was peaceful and really beautiful. The sun felt so good. Then it started to rain while the sun was still shining, and the rain lasted only a few seconds before it began to pour down like a waterfall. It was just a steady, flowing stream of water hitting everyone there, from the babies to the oldest. (A renewal of the former rain upon the saints and then the beginning of the latter rain upon the David reformer ministries before it's given to the saints, just as Joel spoke of and the Gospels show in type: (Joe.2:22) Be not afraid, ye beasts of the field; for the pastures of the wilderness do spring, for the tree beareth its fruit, the fig-tree and the vine do yield their strength. (23) Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in Jehovah your God; for he giveth you the former rain in just measure, and he causeth to come down for you the rain, the former rain and the latter rain, in the first [month]. (Note: Hos.6:3… he (the Lord) will come unto us as the rain, as the latter rain that watereth the earth. The Lord will come as the anointing of the Holy Spirit not in the air or in a rapture of the Church!!) Back to Joel (24) And the floors shall be full of wheat, and the vats shall overflow with new wine and oil. (25) And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the canker-worm, and the caterpillar, and the palmer-worm (representing the curse on God's people), my great army which I sent among you. (26) And ye shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and shall praise the name of Jehovah your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you; and my people shall never be put to shame. (27) And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am Jehovah your God, and there is none else; and my people shall never be put to shame. (28) And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: (29) and also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my Spirit. Everyone was feeling this water and it was filling us up. It was freshness and newness and it didn't feel like any other kind of anointing one has ever felt before. We knew that we knew, it was there to stay. Everyone had their faces up to the water, to the anointing, feeling the water. (I am not doing it justice in explaining how it felt; how it was filling us up and how we all felt; even to say, “Walking on a cloud” is not the right words but I don't know any other words.) I saw people walking on stones and stickers in the ground, and we were barefoot, and it didn't hurt us, like we didn't feel it. (Representing walking above the curses of this world with no hurt.) We knew that we knew, our entire body was anointed of God. We knew what we were doing was ordained of God and we were just doing it. There were no questions. (I just can't explain the oneness or the way our hands felt; like they were not our hands, but the Lord's hands. …Each step was ordained of the Lord. We knew that nothing could take away what God had given to us. We were being completely used by Him. It was like walking or moving on clouds.) ... When everyone was filled, ... that's when we heard God tell us, “Ok, get busy; we're going to work now”. (The beginning of the spread of the revival.)   Revival Beginning at UBM Charlie Smith - 12/12/12 (David's notes in red) Notice the date of this dream: 12/12/12, the fullness of the elect. In the early hours of the morning, the Lord gave me this dream. In it, suddenly, I appeared in a large room where I saw brother David (representing the David Man-child reformers) and about 10 or 12 brethren standing around. (I asked the Lord if this was 12 and got a yes, which fits with Jesus and his 12 when revival began then.) I knew David, but his features had changed some. I mean, he really looked great. I could really see God in the man like I never had before. (David, here is a type of the Man-child reformers who will start this revival, just as Jesus, the Son of David, did in His time. The things that have been are the things that will be.) And I knew him, but the other brethren I did not recognize, although I really did know who they were. As I stood looking, a man came over to me and He was the Lord! The brethren were being taught how to minister to the needs of the people. Brother David walked across the room to pray for a man who came for healing. He stood before the man and said, “Be healed,” and the man was healed instantly. David turned and walked back to the other side of the room. (God's power is made perfect in man's weakness, so that no flesh can glory.) The brethren, as well as I, were amazed that the man was healed, and we started praising God and giving thanks. As we rejoiced, another man came forward for healing who was blind. One of the brethren came forth and laid hands on the man's head, saying, “Receive your sight”. And the man cried out, “I'm healed and I can see!” Other people in the room who were in need came forth immediately, some with missing or deformed limbs, twisted bodies, crippled, all such of humanity that was so pitiful; they came up and every one of them was healed instantly. I said, “Oh, God, how is it that everyone was healed instantly, so fast, so easily? Some had hands laid on them and others did not, but they were all healed”. The Lord smiled and said, “You could not see”. Then the Lord opened my spiritual eyes and said, “Now look”. And He showed me again the part where David said to the man, “Be healed”. This time I could see the words “Be healed” coming out of David's mouth, like a mist, and entering into the man. And as the word went into the man, he was instantly healed. I received a few scriptures that go with this dream: (Isa.55:11) So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth. It shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please; and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. (Jer.1:12) I watch over my word to perform it. (Eze.12:25) For I am Jehovah and I will speak, and the word that I shall speak shall be performed. (Rom.10:8) The word is nigh thee, in thy mouth and in thy heart. And I was still wondering about the mist that I saw, and I got (Joh.6:63) The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life. So I understood that, like Jesus spoke the Word, and it came to pass, so these brethren operated on that level. The scene changed and we were in a different, larger room. David and about 100 or more other brethren were gathered together. The brethren were being taught how to minister and were then sent forth. They went forth preaching the Word and healing the sick everywhere. The brethren covered much of this area and you couldn't go anywhere without seeing them. (Many Man-child ministers are coming here and they will send forth disciples as Jesus did.) And then the scene quickly changed again, and we were at another place outside. It was a large, grassy area with parking nearby, but I don't know where it was. Brother David and maybe as many as 500 brethren were gathered together and crowds of people were coming from everywhere. It looked like thousands or even hundreds of thousands were coming. The meetings ran day and night. One night, all the people saw a pillar of fire burning in our midst. They were being drawn by the Lord, and it was a holy move of God. So many saints were now coming together. Again, the scene quickly changed and I was lifted up, looking down on the earth, and I saw the saints running through all the earth, spreading the gospel and the light was shining all over the earth. I think what I saw was a revival to prepare the saints to manifest sons of God in the earth to do the will of the Father. I also believe that this is a revival for the Man-child because in every one of those scenes where David and the brethren were gathered, they were being taught how to minister the Word and heal the sick. And I noticed that everything was on a higher level than what we're used to now. They didn't spend a lot of time and use a lot of words when they prayed; they just commanded it and it was immediately done. And when they gave the Gospel, they didn't have to stand there for hours trying to nail a point down. It was just like the glory of the Lord fell. When these brethren got around people out here on the streets to witness, the glory of the Lord was so strong that they just automatically fell down and cried, “Save me!” This was definitely a sign to us all that God's getting ready to do something wonderful here. I'm just like my brothers and sisters here. I want to be a part of it because I know God's going to do a fantastic work here and it's going to spread worldwide because I saw the lights cover the whole earth. I don't know when this is going to happen, but I know it will. Amen. We are informed by the Lord in many more dreams and scriptures that there is coming a great revival here and across the country and world. It will be in the midst of darkness and turmoil and many will come out of darkness. (Isa.60:1) Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of Jehovah is risen upon thee. (2) For, behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the peoples; but Jehovah will arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. (3) And nations shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising. (4) Lift up thine eyes round about, and see: they all gather themselves together, they come to thee; thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be carried in the arms. (5) Then thou shalt see and be radiant, and thy heart shall thrill and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be turned unto thee, the wealth of the nations shall come unto thee. We have a part in this. The principalities and powers of darkness have been put under our feet, but we must fight the good fight of the faith and cast them down from over UBM, this area, the U.S, and many other countries. (Luk.10:18) And he said unto them, I beheld Satan fallen as lightning from heaven. (19) Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall in any wise hurt you. (20) Nevertheless in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rejoice that your names are written in heaven. Let us have fasting and prayer and praise meetings and confess our sins and cast down these powers. Let us decree freedom from bondage and darkness. I received this: (Job 22:28) Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee; And light shall shine upon thy ways. (29) When they cast [thee] down, thou shalt say, [There is] lifting up; And the humble person he will save. (30) He will deliver [even] him that is not innocent: Yea, he shall be delivered through the cleanness of thy hands.   Prophet Phillip shared this vision with us: (Spearheading the Man-child) I have prayed for three days now for the Holy Father's will in this matter of sharing the vision I received during a meeting with David as the speaker (in Phoenix, a type of resurrection life). (I had never seen Phillip before this.) I am permitted to share the following: As I prayed with David at the start of the meeting, I saw the room change into a stadium filled with people and David was at the podium shouting through a microphone that was in the shape of a shofar. He wore a silver yarmulke that glowed as he spoke, and from above it came a white golden light pouring down from the sky as a beam of glory growing brighter with each outpouring. From David's clothing came the same glory lights pouring through the tzit-tzit on his garment, flowing like fingers through the people. They touched the forehead and were grabbed by the right hand of people who became pregnant (with Christ) and began shouting as they were covered in glory. This is the vision I had at the meeting. The Holy Father says that David would know its meaning, if not now, very soon. (All glory to God, He chooses the weak to show this.  He can speak through a donkey.)   Months after that meeting, we received this from Phillip: Holy Yahweh is forming this ministry into His Image to spearhead the Man-child Ministry Birthing and Delivery to the World! Amen! He has given this to me in a mighty vision that ran and continued for three nights along with some other things that I can't say just yet. In short, brethren, the “white golden light pouring down from the sky as a beam of glory” will flow through obedient servants in whom Christ is manifested through the latter rain and belief in the truth. It will flow first through the man-child and then through the witnesses to the Church at large. (This light is pouring down from the sky upon the giant body of Christ in Tommy Hick's revelation.) Great Restoration and Revival (2) (audio) David Eells – 12/3/25 I would like to encourage you today with some older revelations we have about the latter rain revival we are looking forward to!   Judgment and Then Revival Marie Kelton - 10/09/2016 (David's notes in red) I had this vision at the prayer meeting this morning while we were praying. (One thing we prayed about was God bringing down the evil in our government.) When I closed my eyes, I saw a hurricane storm. I couldn't see anything but two trees and a lot of water and rain being blown against them by strong wind. The sky was a light grayish color. (Missy and I cast lots and asked if the storm was economic and received three heads. Then we asked if the two trees represent Obama and Hillary, and got three heads.) Below are the verses I received. (Since this vision was given, the storm against Obama and Hillary has picked up quite a bit with the Wikileaks emails and many scandals coming forth and the military coming out against what is going on and the UN accusing them of war crimes by supporting ISIS, Al Qaeda, and the like to overthrow governments and murder many, including Christians.) Zec.14:13 And it shall come to pass in that day, that a great tumult from Jehovah shall be among them; and they shall lay hold every one on the hand of his neighbor, and his hand shall rise up against the hand of his neighbor. The Lord will go forth to fight as He fought in the day of battle by turning the enemy against each other in our government and in turning other governments against them. As they have factioned the world governments, they will be factioned. The Trump administration is arresting many DSers and many are turning states evidence to get leniency. The threats against the true people of God will be taken down as Pharaoh at the Red Sea, Sennacherib at Jerusalem, Haman and his against the people of God, the armies against Jehoshaphat and Jerusalem. This will enable the people of God to go into the wilderness singing and rejoicing as they did on the far side of the Red Sea. This is not to say that because of the quakes, tsunamis and volcanoes, there won't be many in FEMA camps or under martial law. God will bring them guidance and deliverance even there. Deb just received this word after I wrote the above note: Jer.44:30 Thus saith Jehovah, Behold, I will give Pharaoh Hophra (meaning “a pharaoh” - Obama is often pictured as Pharaoh and is a leader of an attempted coupe, which is not going well.) king of Egypt into the hand of his enemies (spiritual and physical), and into the hand of them that seek his life; as I gave Zedekiah (the apostate leadership of God's people) king of Judah into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon (Obama in another parable), who was his enemy, and sought his life. Act.2:38 And Peter said unto them, Repent ye, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ unto the remission of your sins; and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For to you is the promise, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call unto him. After the judgment on the wicked (DS) who would have attacked God's people in the first verse, an outpouring will come on the righteous, as in this text, just as it was in Joel chapter 2. The storm will be a judgment on the wicked and a blessing to the righteous, as the hurricane below. Gen.42:21 And they said one to another, We are verily guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the distress of his soul, when he besought us, and we would not hear; therefore is this distress come upon us. The factious in Church and government are being judged because of what they did to Joseph the Man-child. They will reap the faction they sowed and the elect among them will repent in the revival, and the rest will be reprobated. Heb.10:11 And every priest indeed standeth day by day ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, the which can never take away sins: 12 but he, when he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; 13 henceforth expecting till his enemies be made the footstool of his feet. The enemies will be judged, but God will forgive those who repent and believe in the sacrifice of Jesus. I asked this about the two trees and got Ezekiel 7:1 and here is the context: Eze.7:1 Moreover the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, 2 And thou, son of man, thus saith the Lord Jehovah unto the land of Israel, An end: the end is come upon the four corners of the land. A judgment that will encompass America and the world. This is probably the volcanoes, earthquakes, tsunamis, etc,. 3 Now is the end upon thee, and I will send mine anger upon thee, and will judge thee according to thy ways; and I will bring upon thee all thine abominations. 4 And mine eye shall not spare thee, neither will I have pity; but I will bring thy ways upon thee, and thine abominations shall be in the midst of thee: and ye shall know that I am Jehovah. Many will repent and believe in the revival that comes because of the fierce judgment. The days of plenty will give way to tribulation. 5 Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: An evil, an only evil; behold, it cometh. 6 An end is come, the end is come; it awaketh against thee; behold, it cometh. 7 Thy doom is come unto thee, O inhabitant of the land: the time is come, the day is near, a day of tumult, and not of joyful shouting, upon the mountains. 8 Now will I shortly pour out my wrath upon thee, and accomplish mine anger against thee, and will judge thee according to thy ways; and I will bring upon thee all thine abominations. 9 And mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity: I will bring upon thee according to thy ways; and thine abominations shall be in the midst of thee; and ye shall know that I, Jehovah, do smite. 10 Behold, the day, behold, it cometh: thy doom is gone forth; the rod hath blossomed, pride hath budded. Aaron's rod of the Man-child to have authority over the proud wicked but the fruit of revival will come of it. 11 Violence is risen up into a rod of wickedness; none of them shall remain, nor of their multitude, nor of their wealth: neither shall there be eminency among them. This evil leadership is being taken down. 12 The time is come, the day draweth near: let not the buyer rejoice, nor the seller mourn; for wrath is upon all the multitude thereof. Economic collapse. 13 For the seller shall not return to that which is sold, although they be yet alive (judgment shall overshadow business): for the vision is touching the whole multitude thereof, none shall return; neither shall any strengthen himself in the iniquity of his life. 14 They have blown the trumpet, and have made all ready; but none goeth to the battle (We have already had an undeclared World War between the DS and the Alliance, which is winning. There is nothing the jihadists, including those in the DS, would love more than for East and West to destroy each other, leaving them the undisputed rulers. But if God's people will pray, God will cast it down until the red horse rider of war in Revelation 6:3.); for my wrath is upon all the multitude thereof. And then comes the pale horse rider, sword, death, and famine spoken of in Revelation 6:7. 15 The sword is without, and the pestilence and the famine within: he that is in the field shall die with the sword: and he that is in the city, famine and pestilence shall devour him. 16 But those of them that escape shall escape, and shall be on the mountains like doves of the valleys, all of them moaning, every one in his iniquity. Many will come to repentance when they see the carnage. 17 All hands shall be feeble, and all knees shall be weak as water. 18 They shall also gird themselves with sackcloth, and horror shall cover them; and shame shall be upon all faces, and baldness upon all their heads. Many will come to repentance in these days, much due to the Man-child ministries.   Watch for a Hurricane of Blessings and Abundance! Veronika West - 10/05/2016 (David's notes in red) A word to the righteous! Watch for a hurricane of blessings and abundance! (On the far side of the Red Sea.) Early hours of this morning, I was praying concerning Hurricane Matthew (A sign of things to come), which is now sweeping across the nations. As I cried out to the LORD, immediately I heard the Spirit say, “Daughter, come up higher.” As I pressed into the LORD, suddenly my spirit became illuminated and it was as if I was standing high above the earth, looking down at the hurricane which was moving violently upon the nations. I saw its fierce winds and its rising waters, but then suddenly, in an instant, the picture of devastation and death changed, and I saw the hand of God moving swiftly and mightily upon the earth. (Judgment turning to mercy.) Then I heard Him say, “Daughter, watch! As My hand of blessing and abundance now moves like a mighty hurricane upon my righteous in this hour and season, watch! For it will come suddenly, violently, and with great force. It will cause the plans and purposes of the enemy to be overtaken and overturned. (Judgment will overturn the enemy's plans like Pharaoh at the Red Sea. This could be the Global Currency Reset and the R&R being fulfilled now but this will not last for the world.) “My mighty hurricane of blessing (revival and outpouring) and abundance will be unstoppable, uncontainable, and unprecedented (meaning greater than in all of history). It will cause many in My Kingdom to be suddenly accelerated, activated and advanced (bringing the gospel to the world). It will happen in the twinkling of an eye. “Watch! As My Spirit winds begin to blow upon My people, to remove every encumbrance and every entanglement. (The Spirit will remove all bondage to the old man, like at the Red Sea.) My hurricane of blessing and abundance will create new pathways for the rivers of My glory, goodness, and grace to flow (much more opportunity for the gifts to spread). “The waters of My glory will rise, and the winds of My blessing will blow mightily upon many, causing them to become perfectly aligned and awakened to My Kingdom purposes in the nations”, says God. (Instead of being aligned with the worldly, false kingdoms of men and religion.) After hearing the LORD speak, I felt led to look up the meaning of the name Matthew, which means “gift of Yahweh”. Listen, friends, it is so important that we see with the eyes of the spirit in this hour. Get ready! Be expectant for His mighty hurricane of blessing and abundance that is coming suddenly, violently, and with great force; it will be unstoppable, uncontainable, and unprecedented! I declare: Satan's plans will not prosper. It takes the eyes of faith to see that God is always good and is always working all things for our good! Amen! Quantum faith, saints!   Big Shaking, Intermission, then Crazing? Bill Steenland - 03/01/2015 (David's notes in red) We don't know much for sure here, but we offer it in obedience to the Word in hopes that some other member of the gifted body has a piece of the puzzle. I dreamed David Eells, M.G. and another guy, and I were walking in a big parking garage to find my car. We passed Michael Hare on our left and found my Volvo convertible. (I think this car, which is broken right now, that was working in the dream, speaks of restoration.) Only David and I got in the car. David got into the driver's seat, and I got into the passenger seat. I told David that I really wanted to drive, and I didn't like him driving my vehicle instead of me, but then I just kind of got over it. (Allowing Jesus in the David Man-child ministers “son of David” to take over and rest in their abilities and submit to their control.) We went home to our house. David sat down in a chair, and I was standing next to him, looking down at him. David had a faraway look in his eyes, as if he was thinking about a lot of stuff at once, wondering how everything was going to play out. He was bigger in the dream; he was about 200 pounds and looked very strong. (This speaks of spiritual strength of the Davids.) Then David said to me, “Bill, there is going to be a big shaking soon (or very soon -- can't remember which). Then there is going to be a calm and everything is going to be normal again for a little while. Then it's going to get crazy” (or nuts -- can't remember which). I believe this is speaking of a spiritual shaking to prepare the Man-child and Bride. There was an earthquake at the death and resurrection of Jesus as a type of the Man-child. However, this shaking could be spiritual, as a separation of some from the factious to return, just like there was a prophesied shaking in 2011 with a separation of them from us. This would bring a return to normality for a little while before the physical earthquakes come as a time of craziness. Pam said she saw a crazing pattern at the time of the earthquakes. Wikipedia: 'Crazing' looks like a network of fine cracks on the surface of a material, for example, in a glaze layer. Sandy Shaw, in her dreams of the New Madrid quake, saw cracks running everywhere. We also believe that a soon-coming New Madrid quake down the center of the country, which will cause disruption. A craziness. Here is the Word I got from the Lord on Friday. My finger came down on verse 9 (underlined). Isa.66:7 Before she travailed, she brought forth; before her pain came, she was delivered of a man-child. 8 Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall a land be born in one day? shall a nation be brought forth at once? for as soon as Zion (the Bride) travailed, she brought forth her children. 9 Shall I bring to the birth, and not cause to bring forth? saith Jehovah: shall I that cause to bring forth shut the womb? saith thy God. The Man-child's coming will be great news to the Bride who has suffered at the hands of the wicked. 10 Rejoice ye with Jerusalem, and be glad for her, all ye that love her: rejoice for joy with her, all ye that mourn over her; 11 that ye may suck and be satisfied with the breasts of her consolations; that ye may milk out, and be delighted with the abundance of her glory. 12 For thus saith Jehovah, Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river, and the glory of the nations like an overflowing stream: and ye shall suck thereof; ye shall be borne upon the side, and shall be dandled upon the knees. 13 As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you; and ye shall be comforted in Jerusalem. How awesome we know the truth and the truth will set us free. What a great example a pregnant woman is. The child is coming; it's as sure as a pregnant woman. Wow! It reminds me of John 6, where Peter's response is so encouraging: Joh.6:68 Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. 69 And we have believed and know that thou art the Holy One of God. Come, Lord Jesus!   He Will Come As the Latter Rain Eve Brast - 09/15/2014 (David's notes in red) Dream #1: I dreamed I was in a storybook setting. I was a girl playing and observing inside this setting. I was happy and carefree. I was running around and playing inside a large white castle. The castle was two stories high with large support pillars and black and white checkered tile on the ground floor and a large grand staircase that led from the central entry area up to the top floor. (Eve here represents the Bride as the wife of the last Adam, Jesus Christ. Compared to the anointing that is coming to her, her ability and power to do the work of God and live in the castle of the King is as a child.) There had been a massive volume of water, a wave of some sort, that had come into the castle from the upper floor windows and had washed through the entire upper floor and then had headed down the grand staircase. (The upper room Christians in Acts received the former rain, as did many, and it did continue on down through history for a ways.  But due to apostasy there was a falling away. Apostate preachers have spoken against the baptism of the Holy Spirit and are guilty of the blood of the saints who would have been greatly strengthened by this anointing.) The wave had all frozen solid by the time it reached the black and white tiled floor at the base of the stairway. It had been frozen in time like this for many, many years. (Father withdrew His anointing, as apostates counted His gift unclean.) Job.37:9 Out of the chamber of the south cometh the storm, And cold out of the north. 10 By the breath of God ice is given; And the breadth of the waters is straitened. ... Job.38:28 Hath the rain a father? Or who hath begotten the drops of dew? 29 Out of whose womb came the ice? And the hoary frost of heaven, who hath gendered it? 30 The waters hide themselves and become like stone, And the face of the deep is frozen. (I believe the former rain became mostly frozen in time, so to speak, for the last 2000 years that the Church has fallen away from the true Gospel that they heard from the beginning. Act 2:38  And Peter said unto them, Repent ye, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ unto the remission of your sins; and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.  (As to the black and white lower floor: The overwhelming majority of lower-level, sometimes white and sometimes black, lukewarm Christianity, have never received the great wave of the former rain. Even for those who have received a portion of the former rain, it seems the anointing is small. As I have said so often, “If we do what they did, we will get what they got and if we get what they got, we will do what they did”.) Hos.5:15 I will go and return to my place, till they acknowledge their offence, and seek my face: in their affliction they will seek me earnestly. 6:1 Come, and let us return unto Jehovah; for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up. 2 After two days will he revive us: on the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live before him. We are now at the third thousand-year day since the coming of Christ. 3 And let us know, let us follow on to know Jehovah: his going forth is sure as the morning; and he will come unto us as the rain, as the latter rain that watereth the earth. Notice the King is coming as the latter rain and His power and holiness will be manifested. Returning to the Lord is not black and white; it is white with the Holy Spirit. WooHoo! - Come, Lord Jesus!) As a little girl in this dream, I was sliding down the frozen waves on the grand staircase and then climbing back up to the top floor to do it again. (With child-like faith, we can rise above the curse, being carefree and enjoying His abundant life as we rest in Christ.) Mar.10:15 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall in no wise enter therein. (As a child, the Bride sometimes fluctuates between the top floor and the black and white floor below, but that is temporary for them, for they will receive of the Spirit refreshing and rest of the Holy Spirit which has been frozen in time for many. Isa.28:11 Nay, but by [men of] strange lips and with another tongue will he speak to this people; 12 to whom he said, This is the rest, give ye rest to him that is weary; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear. As we can see, many have not heard, and some will not hear this great news.) Suddenly, the water waves began to melt as I observed a regal prince dressed in royal robes come riding into the storybook setting on his white horse. (Notice: “he will come unto us as the rain”. This thawing wave will be released on the lower floor so that they may also live the Kingdom life with power. Act.1:8 But ye shall receive power, when the Holy Spirit is come upon you: and ye shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea and Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.) (The regal “King” Jesus will return manifested in the Prince, the first fruits Man-child ministry. [He comes as the white horse rider of the first seal of Revelation to melt the long-frozen water of the former and the latter rain of the Holy Spirit. Jesus is the King of kings, but this is the Prince, the son of the King in whom His life's blood flows.]) He rode up over the melting ice wave and up the grand staircase toward the right side of the upper floor, where a lady dressed in royal gowns was standing with her hands clasped together, waiting for him. (Notice the Bride has grown up and is living on the top floor now.) He then dismounted his horse and took her hand in his and kissed it and told her to come with him; it was time for their marriage. Rev.6:2 And I saw, and behold, a white horse, and he that sat thereon had a bow; and there was given unto him a crown: and he came forth conquering, and to conquer. Isa.61:10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, and my soul shall be joyful in my God: for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation: and with the robe of justice he hath covered me, as a bridegroom decked with a crown, and as a bride adorned with her jewels. Rev.21:2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven of God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband. Then I woke up. When I fell back to sleep, I was given dream #2 as a continuation of the first dream above, with the addition that the false accusers are silenced. I turned and walked toward my right out of the upper room of the castle. At this point, I was a woman, and I walked out onto a freshly laid parking lot, which seemed to be an extension of the upper floor of the castle. (Maturity and rest lives on the top floor.) I saw a very large, white, hand-sewn quilt, larger than king-size, spread out on the parking lot. (A spread is for rest and a parking lot is a place where mobile vessels, which we are, are at rest.) Pro.31:22 She maketh for herself carpets of tapestry; Her clothing is fine linen and purple. (One translation says “quilts”.) King Solomon was sitting on it, dressed in his finest royal robes. There were luxurious pillows all around him on the quilt for reclining. I went and sat down next to him, at his right hand. Psa.45:9 Kings daughters are among thy honorable women: At thy right hand doth stand the queen in gold of Ophir. My son Elijah was a grown man and was a defense lawyer in King Solomon's court. He was dressed in a white dress shirt and suit pants with highly polished dress shoes and was standing in front of the king. (Elijah, the Man-child born of the Bride, was being here in Greek a Parakletos, translated “comforter” or “advocate,” meaning a defense lawyer who pleads our case before the judge. Jesus and Moses, as Man-children, also did this. Moses quite successfully pleaded Israel's case a few times. Jesus was saying He was a defense lawyer when He told the disciples He would go, but the Father would send “another Comforter” or Parakletos. So Jesus was a defence lawyer. Joh.14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter (Parakletos), that he may be with you for ever... 1Jn.2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you that ye may not sin. And if any man sin, we have an Advocate (Parakletos) with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. So Jesus, as Man-child, was a defense lawyer for the Bride when He was with the disciples and afterward when He was glorified.) In front of me, there was a female Australian Shepherd dog pacing back and forth with hatred in her eyes. It had long white fur with big black spots all over it. (We are told to “hate the garment spotted by the flesh” or sin. Aussies have also been called “pastor dogs”. They are not as tall [mature] as many shepherds. They are very competitive and territorial. Why is the pastor dog shown as female? Because they should be receiving the seed and bearing the fruit instead of their lust to sow, which they are not equipped to do.) This dog could talk and it was constantly accusing me to the king of things that were not true about me. (This represents the hatred and lies of the factious leaders. Satan is the accuser of the brethren and these dogs work for him.) Elijah said to the king, “This dog makes false accusations against my mother, O King!” (The Man-child intercedes for the Bride before the Judge.) The king did nothing at first (testing and crucifying the Bride), as we all suffered this lying dog to pace back and forth in front of me, speaking lie after lie against me. (Isa 56:11  Yea, the dogs are greedy, they can never have enough; and these are shepherds that cannot understand: they have all turned to their own way, each one to his gain, from every quarter.  Psa.31:20 In the covert of thy presence wilt thou hide them from the plottings of man: Thou wilt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues. (At this time, the faction that crucified the Bride and Man-child and separated those who are not part of these bodies. The dogs are no longer needed because of the maturity and rest they have entered into through this crucifixion.) After a little while, the king nodded at me (giving His authority to the Bride over the accusers) and I got up from the quilt and went over to the dog and picked it up, subduing it under my left arm. I then grabbed its snout with my right hand and shut its mouth. (The righteous have the authority to bind and loose with the King's nod of approval.) It could no longer accuse me after this. It was temporarily able to break its mouth loose from my grip once, trying to open its mouth to bite my thumb, but the power of God kept its mouth shut supernaturally, and it was powerless to do me any harm. (Charlie had a revelation that the Lord was telling him that everything is about to change and that He was able to save us and scatter the enemy.) Psa.63:11 But the king shall rejoice in God: Every one that sweareth by him shall glory; For the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped. Then I woke up. The testing is almost over, and the murmurers are dying in the wilderness, disqualified to live in the Promised Land.   Last Days World Revival  Debra Klein - 07/30/2014 (David's notes in red) In a dream, I woke up in the Middle East among sandy dunes. All I could see in all of the atmosphere from heaven to earth and 360 degrees around me was the Aurora Borealis. It was shockingly beautiful. (I believe this represented the glory of God.) (Certainly, the many colors are attributes of the light which God is.) I turned to see a crowd of people from all over the world. They were somewhat scared and didn't know what was happening. I turned to the right and saw a pitched tent, and in front of it was a simple wooden podium. With my Bible, I went to the podium and turned to Matthew 24 (judgments of the end times, which will help bring revivals). I began to tell the people that this is what the Lord said would happen. I began to preach the Gospel to them. The words came out of my mouth as a roar that shook the earth. (I believe that Debra here spiritually represents the Bride, as she has in other dreams. (In the natural women aren't allowed to teach men.1Tim.2:12) As in the Gospels, these will be sent forth by the Man-child ministry to preach. Among them were the disciples of Jesus, the 12 and the 70 and multitudes of other discipled by them as a type for our time.) In the crowd closest to me was a man who was dressed as an Arab prince. Upon hearing what was said, he threw back his head, exclaiming loudly with joy, “Jesus is alive!” The people began to rejoice. They were being saved. There was joy among them. I woke up sweating. The Lord said to me, “This is the last days world revival”. (Since the observers were people from all nations, I suggest that a great move of revival will spread from the Middle East to the world. I believe the Jeremiah 25 wars will bring many Muslim people to misery to call out to God, Who will answer them and reveal Himself to them. Revival will spread from the people who have hated and killed Christians, kind of like it did with Paul.)   The School of Revival Anonymous - 1/13/22 (David's notes in red) I had a dream that I went to the elementary school that I went to as a child, and all the people I went to school with were still there. They were all gathered together. I went up to them all and just started sharing my testimonies of Christ, and I was speaking the Word and Truth in Spirit. I felt such a strong amplified love and energy for Christ in spirit. It was like 100x amplified beyond anything I have felt when awake. Just a strong desire for Christ and strong exercise of speaking Truth and the Word with nothing hindering me. I didn't have to struggle with carnal worries of offending anyone or being embarrassed. Nothing was hindering me or fighting me from proclaiming Jesus. And it was all out of holy love and not out of obligation, and I felt love for everyone, even those who had hurt me so much or hated me in the past. I had such strong pure love for all of them, not in a carnal way but spiritually. It was a real witness as they knew how evil I was as a child, more than most. But they now saw Jesus had transformed my life, they could see the Light of Christ, and so many of them repented and turned to Christ in spirit and truth. A big revival throughout the school broke out, starting with repentance. I walked around to different areas talking about Jesus to everyone. Many others repented and were awakened to the truth and began telling others. The fire of God spread so quickly throughout the school, and most came to repentance and love for Jesus, and a few that didn't repent were surrounded by those who did, and either they started desiring Christ, or they had to run away from the school and not come back. To stay in the school, they would have to be in Christ. The Spirit was contagious, and it was so beautiful seeing true repentance in spirit and truth and love for Christ came so quickly. I went into a classroom and there were students sitting down, and a woman teacher was teaching. I went over to the teacher and said that what they are doing is meaningless and a waste of time. (Meaning time is run out. Its now time to know of the Word.)  I then turned to the class and started singing Be Thou My Vision, praising God, and all the students started singing also. After the song, I prayed in front of everyone, and I asked God in faith that every person who has ever been to this school in all of time would all have the gift of repentance and faith before leaving earth, and that they will all be in the Kingdom for eternity. I then heard that I will remember this moment asking God for this because it will and has been answered. Then I woke up.   A Sudden Move of God Debbie Fenske - 1/16/23 (David's notes in red) During our morning Zoom meeting, the Lord allowed me to see in the Spirit those whom we would call the lowliest of people, and those addicted to every kind of sin. I could see the Spirit of the Lord suddenly coming upon them, moving in their spirits. I could discern their intense desire for God. These were dry, needy, and homeless people on the streets. (These represent spiritually homeless people.) I could see them dropping to their knees and raising their hands to heaven with a sudden, but awesome desire for Jesus, to truly want to know Him. Then I heard Him say: “I am doing this. I am doing the work. But even My people, who know My truths and are walking in My ways, will see and wonder if such persons could be touched in such a way. But I say to you, ‘What a remnant I am bringing forth!' So, I warn you, I warn My people to be prepared. Be ready to receive My gift to minister to those whom I will allow you to run into as you go about your business of the day. And I say, do not let their appearance stop you from being moved by My Spirit, to minister by My Spirit as I bring you face-to-face with them. Be alert and do the work of God. Even those affluent ones who have sat before Bible teachers hearing My Word preached, and receiving it with joy, and walking in My ways to the best of their knowledge, now will suddenly receive revelation from My Spirit that they are yet so empty, and needy of the deeper truths of My Word. They are going to suddenly desire more of Me, and they will seek Me with all their hearts, praying with earnest out of a sudden yearning desire which I will suddenly impart to them. (In revivals in the past, sinners and self-righteous people suddenly, for no apparent reason, have been overcome with grief for their sins and cried out to God.) And many will find you and will truly find Me through the ministry and revelation truths you have received in Me through My Word and are so freely giving out. In this study we will take a look at the miracles that Yahweh performed on the Egyptians, when Israel was held in bondage, during this period in Exodus. We will see that those miracles were against the Egyptian deities or gods that they worshipped. Moses was the prototype of the Christ or Messiah. More importantly, the nation of Israel saw Moses as a prototype and the Bible record illustrates that point. Moses said: ‘And Yahweh said unto me, they have well spoken that which they have spoken. I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.' He plays a prominent role in secret societies and even in our own government. But more than that, I believe he is the central character we need to look at when it comes to understanding the times we live in and what is to come in the near future.For instance, did you know that Osiris is the only other god of antiquity apart from Yahshua that was known as, "The King of kings and Lord of lords?""...he is exceedingly mighty and most terrible in his name 'Osiris'; he endureth for ever and forever in his name of 'Un-nefer.' One dominant theory is that the "loop" at the top of the ankh represents resurrection - as in the rebirth of the sun. This would seem to go along with the NUMEROUS dying and resurrecting sun gods born on December 25th that are found in the ancient world. And suffice it to say, it is not by chance, coincidence or accident that the Son of Yahweh was crucified on the symbol of the sun god!With that in mind, I feel it is important to note that in Nimrod's incarnation as Osiris, you can truly see a mirror (reversed) image of Yahshua Messiah. Where Yahshua is the Son of Yahweh, the Messiah, Osiris is the exact antithesis. He is the sun god, the false messiah, the ANTI-Christ! This is one of the primary reasons why I believe Christians should have absolutely nothing to do with associating Yahshua Messiah and the date, December 25th. It was NOT Yahshua Messiahs' birthday. It was the birthday of Nimrod/Osiris/Baal/Mithra.In his work, Magick (Book 4), the famed occultist and the self proclaimed "Father of Satanism," Aleister Crowley had this to say concerning Baphomet : "The Devil does not exist. In Daniel Ch. 6 today we saw clear evidence that this wonderful man, now in his old age, was a man who had a regular prayer life, probably now more intense than ever. We read of those who are jealous of the opinion the king holds of him and how they look for ways to discredit his loyalty to the king. They confer together and decide; “We shall not find any ground for complaint against this Daniel unless we find it in connection with the law of his God.” [v.5]They persuade the King to issue an ordinance banning the making of petitions (i.e. prayers) “to any God or man for 30 days except to you O King” [v.7].  Now “when Daniel knew that the document had been signed, he went to his house where he had windows in his upper chamber open toward Jerusalem.  He got down on his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God as he had done previously.” [v.10]Those jealous of the respect the king had for him reported this matter to him.  Because the king's laws were treated as immutable their report led to Daniel being put into the Lion's Den; his miraculous preservation followed.  The most significant lesson in this story for us is that Daniel was a man of constant prayer, daily in communion with the only true God. In chapter 10 we will read of his distress at the awesome visions given to him: a heavenly being then comes and says, “O man greatly loved, fear not, peace be with you: be strong and of good courage.” [v.19]In our Acts reading, we noted the reasons why the disciples decide to appoint deacons.  The number of believers being baptised and joining the church had become so many that there is need for more and more organisation.  With their appointment the disciples now said, “we will devote ourselves to prayer and the ministry of the word” [6 v.4]This is an example to the effective operation of ecclesias – and a cause for reflection on the part of ‘elders.' It also reminds us how those baptised on the day of Pentecost “devoted themselves to the apostles teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and prayers.” [2 v.42]  How well are we following these examples?  What are the grounds of complaint against us?  Are there any that are parallel to those made against Daniel?

This talk was given at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church (UOC-USA) in Charlottesville, VA. In it, Fr. Anthony presents Orthodoxy's sacramental view of creation and uses music as an example of how the royal priesthood, in Christ, fulfills its commission to pattern the cosmos according to that of Eden. My notes from the talk: I'm grateful to be back in Charlottesville, a place stitched into my story by Providence. Years ago, the Army Reserves sent me here after 9/11. I arrived with a job in Ohio on pause, a tidy life temporarily dismantled, and a heart that didn't care for the way soldiers are sometimes told to behave. So I went looking for an Orthodox church. I found a small mission and—more importantly—people who took me in as family. A patient priest and his matushka mentored me for six years. If anything in my priesthood bears fruit, it is because love first took root here. Bishops have a sense of humor; mine sent a Georgian convert with no Slavic roots to a Ukrainian parish in Rhode Island. It fit better than anyone could have planned. The Lord braided my history, discovering even ancestral ties in New England soil. Later, when a young man named Michael arrived—a reader who became a subdeacon, a deacon, and in time a priest—our trajectories crossed again. Father Robert trained me; by grace I was allowed to help train Father Michael; and now he serves here. This is how God sings His providence—melodies introduced, developed, and returned, until love's theme is recognizable to everyone listening. Why focus on music and beauty? Because they are not ornamental to the Gospel; they are its native tongue. Beauty tutors us in a sacramental world, not a "God of the gaps" world—where faith retreats to whatever science has not yet explained—but a world in which God is everywhere present and filling all things. Beauty is one of the surest ways to share the Gospel, not as salesmanship or propaganda, but as participation in what the world was made to be. The Church bears a particular charism for beauty; secular beauty can reflect it, but often only dimly—and sometimes in ways that distort the pattern it imitates. Beauty meets the whole human person: the senses and gut, the reasoning mind, and the deep heart—the nous—where awe, reverence, and peace bloom. Music is a wonderfully concrete instance of all of this: an example, a symbol, and—when offered rightly—a sacrament of sanctifying grace. Saint John begins his Gospel with the Logos—not a mere "word" but the Word whose meaning includes order, reason, and intelligibility: "All things were made through Him." Creation, then, bears the Logos' stamp in every fiber; Genesis repeats the refrain, "and God saw that it was good"—agathos, not just kalos. Agathos is goodness that is beautiful and beneficial, fitted to bless what it touches. Creation is not simply well-shaped; it is ordered toward communion, toward glory, toward gift. The Creed confesses the Father as Creator, the Son as the One through whom all things were made, and the Spirit as the Giver of Life. Creation is, at root, Trinitarian music—harmonies of love that invite participation. If you like, imagine the first chapter of Genesis sung. We might say: in the beginning, there was undifferentiated sound; the Spirit hovered; the Logos spoke tone, time, harmony, and melody into being. He set boundaries and appointed seasons so that music could unfold in an ordered way. Then He shaped us to be liturgists—stewards who can turn noise into praise, dissonance into resolution. The point of the story is not that God needed a soundtrack; it is that the world bears a pattern and purpose that we can either receive with thanksgiving or twist into something self-serving and cacophonous. We know what happened. In Adam and Eve's fall, thorns and thistles accompanied our work. Pain entered motherhood, and tyranny stalked marriage. We still command tools of culture—city-building, metallurgy, and yes, even music—but in Cain's line we see creativity conscripted to self-exaltation and violence. The Tower of Babel is the choir of human pride singing perfectly in tune against God. That is how sin turns technique into idolatry. Saint Paul describes the creation groaning in agony, longing for the revealing of the sons and daughters of God. This is not mere poetic flourish; it is metaphysical realism. The world aches for sanctified stewardship, for human beings restored to their priestly vocation. It longs for its music to be tuned again to the Logos. Christ enters precisely there—as the New Adam. Consider His Theophany. The Jordan "turns back," the waters are sanctified, because nothing impure remains in the presence of God. He does not merely touch creation; He heals it—beginning sacramentally with water, the primal element of both life and chaos. In our services for the Blessing of Water we sing, "Today the nature of the waters is sanctified… The Jordan is parted in two… How shall a servant lay his hand on the Master?" In prayer we cry, "Great are You, O Lord, and marvelous are Your works… Wherefore, O King and Lover of mankind, be present now by the descent of Your Holy Spirit and sanctify this water." This is not magic; it is synergy. We offer bread, wine, water, oil; we make the sign of the cross; we chant what the Church gives—and God perfects our offering with His grace. The more we give Him to work with, the more He transfigures. And then Holy Friday: the terrible beauty of the Passion. Sin's dissonance swells to cacophony as the Source of Beauty is slandered, pierced, and laid in the tomb. Icons and hymns do not hide the scandal—they name it. Joseph and Nicodemus take down a body that clothes itself with light as with a garment. Creation shudders; the sun withdraws; the veil is rent. Liturgically, we let the discomfort stand; sometimes the chant itself presses the dissonance upon us so that we feel the fracture. But the dissonance does not have the last word; it resolves—not trivially, not cheaply—into the transcendent harmony of Pascha. On the night of the Resurrection, the church is dark, then a single candle is lit, and the light spills outward. We sing, "Come receive the Light from the unwaning Light," and then the troparion bursts forth: "Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death…" The structure of salvation is musical: tension, longing, silence, and a resolution that is fuller than our peace had been before the conflict. Here is the pastoral heart of it: Christ restores our seal. Saint Paul says we are "sealed with the promised Holy Spirit." Think of a prosphora seal pressed into unbaked dough; the impression remains when the loaf is finished. Sin cracked our seal; everything we touched bore our corruptions. In Christ, the seal is made whole. In Baptism and Chrismation, that seal is pressed upon us—not only on the brow but on the whole person—so that our very engaging with the world can take on the pattern of the Logos again. We do not stop struggling—Paul's "what I would, I do not"—but we now struggle inside a music that resolves. Even our failures can become passing tones on the way to love, if we repent and return to the key. This is why the Church's common life matters so much. When we gather for Vespers and Liturgy, we enact the world's purpose. The Psalms give us perfect words; the Church's hymnody gives us perfected poetry. Music, rightly offered, is Logos-bearing—it is rational in the deepest sense—and love is the same. Music requires skill and repetition; so does love. Music benefits from different voices and timbres; love, too, is perfected when distinct persons yield to a single charity. Music engages and transfigures dissonance; love confronts conflict and heals it. Music honors silence; love rests and listens. These are not analogies we force upon the faith—they are the way creation is built. The world says, "sing louder," but the will to power always collapses into noise. The Church says, "sing together." In the Eucharistic assembly, the royal priesthood becomes itself—men, women, and children listening to one another, matching pitch and phrase, trusting the hand that gives the downbeat, and pouring our assent into refrains of "Lord have mercy" and "Amen." The harmony is not uniformity; it is concord. It is not sentimentality; it is charity given and received. And when the Lord gives Himself to us for the healing of soul and body, the music goes beyond even harmony; it becomes communion. That is why Orthodox Christians are most themselves around the chalice: beauty, word, community, and sacrament converge in one act of thanksgiving. From there, the pastoral task is simply to help people live in tune. For families: cultivate attentiveness, guard against codependence and manipulation, and practice small, steady habits—prayer, fasting, reconciliation—that form the instincts of love the way scales form a musician's ear. For parishes: refuse the twin temptations of relativism and control; resist both the shrug and the iron fist. We are not curators of a museum nor managers of a brand; we are a choir rehearsing resurrection. Attend to the three "parts" of the mind you teach: let the senses be purified rather than inflamed; let the intellect be instructed rather than flattered; and let the nous—the heart—learn awe. Where awe grows, so does mercy. And for evangelization in our late modern world—filled with distraction, suspicion, and exhaustion—beauty may prove to be our most persuasive speech. Not the beauty of mere "aesthetics," but agathos beauty—the kind that is beautiful and beneficial, that heals what it touches. People come to church for a thousand different reasons: loneliness, curiosity, habit, crisis. What they really long for is God. If the nave is well-ordered, if the chant is gentle and strong, if the icons are windows rather than billboards, if the faces of the faithful are kind—then even before a word is preached, the Gospel will have begun its work. "We no longer knew whether we were in heaven or on earth," the emissaries of Rus' once said of their time at worship in Hagia Sophia. Beauty did not close their minds; it opened them to truth. None of this bypasses suffering. In fact, beauty makes us more available to it, because we stop numbing ourselves and begin to love. The Scriptures do not hide this: the Jordan is sanctified, but the Cross remains; the tomb is real; the fast is pangful. Yet in Christ, dissonance resolves. The Church's hymnody—from Psalm 103 at the week's beginning to the Nine Odes of Pascha—trains us to trust the cadence that only God can write. We learn to wait in Friday night's hush, to receive the flame from the unwaning Light, and to sing "Christ is risen" not as a slogan but as the soundtrack of our lives. So: let us steward what we've been given. Let us make the sign of the cross over our children at bedtime; let our conversations overflow with psalmody; let contended silence have a room in every home; let reconciliation be practiced before the sun goes down. Let every parish be a school for choir and charity, where no one tries to sing over his brother, and no one is left straining alone in the back row. If we will live this way, not perfectly but repentantly, then in us the world will begin to hear the old pattern again—the Logos' pattern—where goodness is beautiful and beauty does good. And perhaps, by God's mercy, the Lord will make of our small obedience something larger than we can imagine: a melody that threads through Charlottesville and Anderson, through Rhode Island and Kyiv, through every parish and prison and campus, until the whole creation—long groaning—finds its voice. Let God arise. Let His enemies be scattered. Christ is risen, trampling down death by death, and upon those in the tombs bestowing life.

“That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, ‘No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.’” (1 Corinthians 2:9 NLT) If you get your theology from popular culture, you might imagine Heaven as a place where people sit on clouds and strum harps for eternity. But the truth is much more exciting. The Bible offers a glimpse of a few of the things we’ll do in Heaven. The first is worship. In describing his vision of Heaven, the apostle John wrote, “I saw before me what seemed to be a glass sea mixed with fire. And on it stood all the people who had been victorious over the beast and his statue and the number representing his name. They were all holding harps that God had given them. And they were singing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb: ‘Great and marvelous are your works, O Lord God, the Almighty. Just and true are your ways, O King of the nations’” (Revelation 15:2–3 NLT). We’ll be doing much more than singing a hymn. We’ll be fulfilling the purpose for which we were created: to bring honor and glory to God. We’ll be doing it in His presence, with countless other believers, all filled with joy and awe at the privilege. We’ll sing in perfect harmony—a sound of unimaginable beauty. We also will be busy doing our Father’s business in Heaven. The Bible doesn’t offer a lot of details, but John wrote of those he saw in Heaven, “They stand in front of God’s throne and serve him day and night in his Temple” (Revelation 7:15 NLT). Is it possible that in Heaven we’ll finish tasks that were left uncompleted on earth? Or fulfill dreams that were shattered on earth? Who’s to say that God won’t allow us to accomplish our meaningful earthly goals in Heaven? After all, death for the believer is not the end of life but a continuation of it in another place. We’ll also eat in Heaven. John wrote, “Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb” (Revelation 19:9 NLT). Imagine the food that’s served in Heaven. And then imagine enjoying it for eternity. But the main event of Heaven will be the Lord Himself. Jesus said, “When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am” (John 14:3 NLT). The apostle Paul said, “I long to go and be with Christ, which would be far better for me” (Philippians 1:23 NLT). D. L. Moody wrote, “It will not be the jasper walls and the pearly gates that will make heaven attractive. It is our being with God.” But these are just glimpses. There’s no way our finite minds can conceive of all that we will do in Heaven. As Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 2:9, “That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, ‘No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him’” (NLT). Title: Light of the World Text: Acts 26:12-23 FCF: We often struggle responding from our hopelessness to God's sovereign redemptive plan. Prop: Because God is absolutely sovereign over his global redemption plan, we must be law abiding citizens of His Kingdom. [Slide 1] Scripture Intro: Turn in your bible to Acts 26. In a moment we'll begin reading starting in verse 12 from the Legacy Standard Bible. You can follow along in the pew bible or whatever version you prefer. Last time we heard the beginning of Paul's defense… not of himself… but of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He pointed out that resurrection and revelation deniers cannot receive the gospel but he also confesses that even self-righteous religious zealots like himself couldn't receive the gospel either. Something prevented both groups from seeing the truth about Jesus of Nazareth. Today, we will see the dramatic conclusion of Paul's defense of the gospel before Festus and Agrippa. Please stand with me to give honor to and to focus on the reading of the Word of God. Invocation: Sovereign Lord, You are mighty to save. Just as we have seen and declared from the scriptures, there is nothing You purpose to do that man's will can prevent. If You purpose to save men, You will save them. Lord, in the last few months, we have discussed much of Your providence and Your orchestration of all things to accomplish the purposes of Your will. Help us now to see that even Your global redemptive plan is not something that You have left to chance or man's discretion or performance. Help us to see what Your scriptures teach so plainly and help us to receive it. We pray this in Jesus' name, Amen. Transition: We have much to get to today, so let's get to it. I.) God is absolutely sovereign over His global redemption plan, so we must repent and believe the gospel. (12-18) a. [Slide 2] 12 - While so engaged as I was journeying to Damascus with the authority and commission of the chief priests, 13 - at midday, O King, I saw on the way a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, shining all around me and those who were journeying with me. i. This is the third, final, and shortest account of the conversion of Saul in the book of Acts. ii. It is the second one given by himself before a hostile crowd – although this is easily the least hostile of the two. iii. As we compare the three accounts of Saul's conversion we notice some slight differences in their details. Most of these are easily explained by the target audience. We'll not take the time to trace through all the differences between the accounts today… but none of them are contradictory. iv. But let's unpack what Paul says this time. v. First, he, for a second time, mentions that he went to Damascus with the authority of and by commission of the chief priests to apprehend Christians in foreign cities. vi. Second, Paul mentions the setting of his conversion in slightly greater detail than has yet to be described. 1. He says it was midday - noontime in his previous testimony. 2. Then he says that he saw a light from heaven. A bright light that suddenly flashed brighter than the sun. a. Although he doesn't speak to the suddenness of this light in this context, in the previous two versions this was mentioned. b. Here though, he does compare it to the sun and mentions that it was brighter than the sun. 3. And everyone who journeyed with him saw the light. a. Not only did they see it, but it completely engulfed them. b. They were surrounded by pure light. c. No doubt this is part of the reason every single account calls this a light… from heaven. d. It is a supernatural brightness. A kind of light that cannot be explained by natural means. e. It cannot be a glare off a meteor or the flash of a dying star. At midday, the sun is high in the sky. To be completely engulfed by light at this time… it must be a light from heaven. f. Some suggest that this light was the reason that Paul went blind. But the fact that all of them not only saw but were engulfed by the light tells us that it wasn't the light that caused his blindness. It was something else. b. [Slide 3] 14 - And when we had all fallen to the ground, I heard a voice saying to me in the Hebrew language, ‘Saul, Saul, i. Next Paul relates a small detail that has been omitted from the previous two accounts. ii. The entire party fell to the ground – not just Paul. iii. We don't know whether they were thrown off their horses or merely put their face on the road and covered their eyes to escape the brightness of the light… but we do know that, most likely, the guards who accompanied him were not watching what comes next. iv. Paul records that a voice spoke to him in the Hebrew language. Which could mean either Hebrew or Aramaic – probably Aramaic. v. This could be the reason the guards did not understand what was said, but Paul doesn't actually draw that conclusion here. vi. He doesn't even mention that the guards didn't understand what was said. vii. Which begs the question, if Paul is not mentioning this detail to explain why the guards didn't understand what was said, what is it's significance? 1. As Paul stands before a primarily Gentile audience of pagans, and a Jew of convenience, Agrippa, the fact that he heard a voice from heaven would not have alarmed them in the least. 2. Although the spiritual view of the world was being attacked on all sides by Epicureans and Stoics, there still existed a general superstition of oracles and receiving visions and messages from the gods. 3. In fact, a good deal of weight would be given to whatever was said from a vision, particularly if whatever was said was obeyed and came to pass. 4. The world had not become pure materialists quite yet. 5. The only questions on their minds would be which god is speaking to Paul on the road to Damascus and what did that god say? a. By Paul mentioning that this voice spoke in the Hebrew language, it eliminates every single god… but one. b. Jews were Monotheists. If a voice from heaven, a god, speaks Aramaic or Hebrew – it must be Yahweh. 6. So, the only question that remains is what does Yahweh say to Paul? viii. Yahweh begins by calling him by name, twice. ix. There only seven examples in all of scripture where God calls to a person using their name twice. We can look more deeply into these on Thursday night if you want to join us… it is very easy to join the TEAMS meeting.

Title: Defending the Gospel to the Religious Text: Acts 26:1-11 FCF: We often struggle convincing religious people they need the gospel. Prop: Because religiously engaged people with prideful or worldly hearts will attack the gospel, we must be ready to provide a defense for the hope we have in us. Scripture Intro: [Slide 1] Turn in your bible to Acts chapter 26. In a moment we'll begin reading from the Legacy Standard Bible starting in verse 1. You can follow along in the pew bible or in whatever version you prefer. Last week Luke gave us a glimpse into a conversation between Festus and Herod Agrippa the Second. This conversation reveals to us not only that selfishly motivated politicians are not a new development of our time, but also that Festus is quite perplexed about how to handle an innocent man appealing to Caesar. Essentially Festus is caught playing favors and now he has to report to the Emperor a valid reason that Paul is present in his court. However, he hopes that Herod Agrippa can help him. Herod is highly favored of Emperor Nero and his father before him. If Herod Agrippa says that the only reason Paul is there is because he appealed prematurely – then Festus may not look completely inept. So, the stage is set for this deposition. It is not a trial or even a hearing. It is simply a fact finding endeavor so Festus can fill out his paperwork properly. How will it begin? Will Paul endure questions? If so, who will ask? Let's find out. Please stand with me to give honor to and focus on the reading of the Word of God. Invocation: Most High God, You are unlike all others. Yet You have condescended to reveal Yourself to us, most fully in Your Son Jesus. You have sent Your Spirit among us to reveal truth and illuminate our hearts through the inspired texts of Your scriptures. Father… I pray that You might send Your Spirit among us today and prevent us from being religious scholars and zealots only, without also becoming Your children. Adopt us through Christ and enable us to repent and believe on Him. Then train us to defend the gospel to those who are merely religiously educated and zealous. We beg You to be with and prepare Your people for the warfare we engage in every day. Do this today we ask in Jesus' name, Amen. Transition: Let us get right to the text this morning. I.) Religiously educated people with worldly pursuits are unable to believe the gospel, so we must provide a defense for the hope we have in us. (1-3) a. [Slide 2] 1 - Now Agrippa said to Paul, “You are permitted to speak for yourself.” Then Paul, stretching out his hand, began to make his defense: i. Festus gave his opening remarks and addressed King Herod Agrippa the Second as the primary audience member of this deposition. ii. He also clearly laid out what the purpose of this deposition was. He needed something to include in the paperwork being sent up to the Emperor that requires Paul's presence in his court. iii. At the moment Festus has nothing to write. iv. It makes sense then that Festus would cede the floor to King Agrippa. v. Agrippa does not ask any questions, but informs Paul that he can go forward and give his defense. vi. So as is custom at this time, Paul stretches out his hand to signify to the listeners that he is about to speak. vii. And although Luke describes this as a defense, and although Paul will address the charges against him indirectly, we should understand that his speech here is not a defense of himself, but is primarily a defense of the gospel of Jesus Christ and how belief on Jesus is the next step in true Judaism. viii. So much so, that if you reject Jesus, then you cease to be a true Jew. ix. Paul will go to great lengths here to not only defend the gospel, but to defend also a Pharisaical view of Judaism that must evolve into Christianity if it is to remain true to the prophesies and promises that God has given to the Israelite people. b. [Slide 3] 2 - “Concerning all the things of which I am accused by the Jews, I regard myself blessed, King Agrippa, that I am about to make my defense before you today; 3 - especially because you are an expert in all customs and questions among the Jews; i. Paul begins his defense addressing the judge, as is customary in a trial. ii. But Paul is not fawning over or buttering Agrippa up at all. Instead, he consistently gives praise to God throughout his entire defense for what God has done, even to deliver him to this point at this very moment. iii. Paul considers himself blessed. 1. This word blessed is the same word that Jesus used in the sermon on the mount when He spoke of the B-attitudes. 2. The word means highly favored or fortunate. 3. In a secular or pagan context, such a word might be used to indicate that someone is favored of the gods or was granted a divine wind on the open sea when no wind was present. 4. Scripture writers often use this word to speak of God's grace applied to someone. iv. Paul's view then, is that he is graced of God. Why? v. Because he has a chance to defend himself against the accusations of the Jews before Agrippa. And especially since Agrippa is well aware of, an expert in, the customs and theological disputes among the Jews. vi. With Festus, Paul had a judge who really was ignorant of the finer theological details on which the trial revolved. That is why Festus wanted to move the trial to Jerusalem and that is why Paul insisted on not going to Jerusalem – Festus sought clarity and Paul knew well the dangers that he faced in that city (if he got there alive). vii. Paul believes he is favored of God to sit before a man who is the secular head of the Jewish Religion. He is well aware of the intricacies of Jewish law and the disputes between the Pharisees, the Sadducees and even the Nazarean sect. viii. Now Agrippa being of the ruling class, an aristocrat, and not only Hellenized but Romanized as well – his sympathies would probably favor the Sadducean view of Judaism. But – if pressed, Agrippa would probably not publicly affiliate himself with any faction or party. He was Jewish but it was a faith of convenience. He was, primarily, a statesman. A politician. ix. What does Agrippa need to do with what Paul is going to say? c. [Slide 4] therefore I beg you to listen to me patiently. i. Paul begs, implores, pleads with Agrippa to listen. ii. Not merely hear his words, not merely hear his defense, but to intently pay attention to all that he says and to do so with forbearance and patience. iii. Paul is asking Agrippa to listen, not merely as a judge, but as a man who needs to hear the message that he is about to be given. d. [Slide 5] 4 - So then, all Jews know my manner of life from my youth, which from the beginning was spent among my own nation and at Jerusalem; i. Paul now transitions to speak about himself. ii. As is customary to do in a defense speech, the accused typically will go back in their life to demonstrate a record of right living. iii. This illustrates that it would be out of character for them to be guilty of whatever the accusers are claiming. iv. Paul establishes, firmly, his Jewish and even his NON-Hellenized Jewish background. v. We spoke of this several months ago now – but there was a pecking order within Judaism. Judean Jews were seen as serious Jews. Jews who lived in Judea, who worshipped at Jerusalem, and who generally adhered as closely as they could to the law – many of them even learning ancient Hebrew instead of just speaking Aramaic. vi. Though he was born in Cilicia and is a Roman citizen, from an early age he moved to Jerusalem and therefore spent his whole young life being brought up among his own people and associating and fellowshipping with Judean Jews. vii. Paul establishes himself as a long time Judean Jew, well aware of the customs and teachings of the Jews. viii. Such claim could only be made by an elite few. ix. He continues. e. [Slide 6] 5 - since they have known about me for a long time, if they are willing to testify, that I lived as a Pharisee according to the strictest sect of our religion. i. Not only was this how his young life was characterized, but his own accusers could verify that it was so. They knew well where he came from and who he was. ii. If they are willing to say so, and not too cowardly to admit it, they have known about him for a long time and know the prominence of Paul. iii. Not only was he a Judean Jew practically since birth, but he was also raised in the strictest sect of Judaism, keeping rigidly the entire Mosaic law, while adopting a more progressive view of the scriptures, to include all the Old Testament both the law and the Prophets as God's Word. iv. The Pharisee party was the party of the people and included not just the wealthy and nobility but even less prominent lineages. v. They believed in miracles and adopted a stricter interpretation of the scriptures concluding that if God has not said it is permissible, then we must refrain. vi. As we saw earlier, he was trained at the feet of Gamaliel a highly respected Rabbi. vii. He knows his stuff and had a reputation for being the REAL DEAL with his faith. viii. And it is because of this theological background that he is on trial. f. [Slide 7] 6 - And now I am standing here being tried for the hope of the promise made by God to our fathers; 7 - the promise to which our twelve tribes hope to attain, as they earnestly serve God night and day. And for this hope, O King, I am being accused by Jews. i. The hope that Paul speaks of here is most certainly the gospel of Jesus Christ. ii. But the core concept of that teaching is the belief that God would resurrect the righteous and the unrighteous dead. iii. Indeed, Paul calls this the hope of the twelve tribes, who earnestly serve God night and day. iv. Well, the twelve tribes have been scattered to the winds. v. So, what is Paul speaking of? vi. He is certainly speaking of the restoration and fulfillment of promises to, largely, dead people. Promises to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Judah, Moses, and David. vii. Those who have died but still have a hope that one day the Lord will resurrect them and fulfill His eternal promises to them. viii. The Sadducees would not accept such a teaching, and it is primarily the Sadducees that accused Paul before these Roman courts. ix. The irony should not be lost on us. Paul is on trial today because believes in the hope of the promise of all of Israel… and yet is still being accused… by Jews. x. This is what springboards Paul into his question he poses to all those who listen… g. [Slide 8] 8 - Why is it considered unbelievable among all of you if God does raise the dead? i. This question seems to come out of nowhere. But it is actually the foundational question that will drive the rest of this speech. ii. Paul says elsewhere that the resurrection is foolishness to the Jews and a stumbling block to the Gentiles. Not today, but soon we will see both of these reactions to Paul's defense. This is the tipping point of the gospel. What do you do with a crucified and risen Savior? iii. Paul has already established that he has been a Judean Jew under the strict sect of the Pharisees since his youth. He has always believed in the resurrection of the dead and eventual renewal of the kingdom of Israel. iv. But now he asks this question. v. Why is it considered unbelievable among all of you if God does raise the dead? vi. There are a couple ways to take this question by Paul. vii. The first way and the most obvious way is to express disbelief or frustration on Paul's part that the resurrection of the dead, by God Himself, is such an untenable idea. 1. If God is who He has claimed to be, and who the Jews have been earnestly worshipping Him to be, resurrecting the dead is completely plausible. 2. It isn't like He is unable to do it. 3. So, if there are scriptures to indicate such is true – as Jesus demonstrated even from the Pentateuch where God addresses dead patriarchs in the present tense and not the past – then our worldly pursuits and materialistic leanings should not suspend our belief on the matter. 4. We must admit that God can do this. 5. Paul speaking to Agrippa and the Gentiles both of which would wrestle with this idea of the dead being able to be resurrected. viii. Another way we could take this question is that Paul is not expressing frustration but is asking his audience to search themselves. This is not an accusatory question but a diagnostic one. 1. Why is it that they consider it unbelievable that God could, would, and does raise the dead? 2. What is truly preventing them from believing that this could be? ix. I think both ways are possible for this question to be asked and both of them fit with where Paul goes next. x. But let's pause first and review what we've seen so far. h. [Slide 9] Summary of the Point: So, if Paul is giving a defense of the gospel, who exactly is he defending it to and what exactly are their arguments? Paul lumps the gentiles, Agrippa, and the Sadducees into one group in these first 8 verses. In short, they are the resurrection deniers. They are religiously educated people who have been captivated by worldly pursuits. And what I mean by worldly pursuits is not just sinful practices, but even the pursuit of this life, this existence, this earthly kingdom rather than some future, eternal, and spiritually perfect kingdom that is to come. In a way, Paul defends the Pharisaical understanding of the Scriptures as the primary avenue to understand and receive the gospel of Jesus Christ. Indeed, he shows that the Pharisaical way of understanding the Old Testament is the only way any Jew can remain a Jew… namely by receiving their Messiah, the God-Man Jesus of Nazareth. Because as it stands, Gentiles who think the resurrection of the dead is foolish, Jews who are religiously educated but purely secular, and even Jews that are religiously practicing but selectively applying the scriptures to only this earthly existence – all of these are unable to receive the gospel message. Therefore, Paul offers a defense of the gospel of Jesus Christ. And in order to do that, he must defend the resurrection to the religiously educated but worldly focused people. We too must provide a defense of the hope we have in us, and one of the audiences of that defense will be those from other faiths, those who call themselves Christians but are purely secular, or those who call themselves Christians, go to church, but have rejected essential doctrines of our faith. We must be ready to defend the gospel of Jesus Christ to these revelation deniers. Transition: [Slide 10(blank)] But is this the only kind of people that we must be prepared to defend the gospel to? Are there others? II.) Religiously zealous people without humility are unable to believe the gospel, so we must provide a defense for the hope we have in us. (9-11) a. [Slide 11] 9 - So then, I thought to myself that I had to do many things hostile to the name of Jesus the Nazarene. i. The opening two words, “so then” could be taken emphatically. ii. Meaning that Paul is not merely moving the timeline along of his story, but is saying something to the effect of – “in fact, of course, or indeed” iii. He is expressing that he also demonstrated disbelief. Not necessarily in the possibility of the resurrection of the dead. And not in the truth of the resurrection of the dead – but specifically in the resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth. iv. In fact, he was WORSE than Agrippa, or Festus, or the Sadducees, because he believed in the resurrection of the dead for the righteous and the unrighteous but could not believe in the resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth. v. Indeed, he opposed Christ in the most aggressive way that he could. b. [Slide 12] 10 - And this is just what I did in Jerusalem; not only did I lock up many of the saints in prisons, having received authority from the chief priests, but also when they were being put to death I cast my vote against them. i. Paul recounts how he, with the authority of the chief priests, many of whom were no doubt still alive and possibly even still well known, did take prisoner many of the saints – meaning those who professed faith in Jesus as the Messiah. ii. He even cast his vote to put Christians to death. iii. “cast his vote” is a euphemism saying cast his pebble. iv. In the Sanhedrin they would cast pebbles into the center to count votes for a guilty verdict. v. This could indicate to us that Paul was on the Sanhedrin council, but it doesn't necessarily mean that. The expression could simply mean he approved of it in an unofficial capacity. vi. And if he is talking about Stephen's trial – if we remember – they didn't really cast a vote. They just got so angry at him that they rushed him out the door and stoned him to death. vii. But regardless of what Paul means – his heart was in full agreement with thinking that those who follow Jesus deserved to die. viii. But for what? c. [Slide 13] 11 - And as I punished them often in all the synagogues, I tried to force them to blaspheme; and being furiously enraged at them, I kept pursuing them even to foreign cities. i. Paul tried to force every single one he found to blaspheme. What he means by this, is to deny Jesus as the Messiah and the Son of God. ii. Paul agreed that these Christians should be killed because he thought they were heretics. iii. Even though he believed in the resurrection… he didn't believe in Jesus' resurrection. iv. And Paul not only heartily approved of stamping out this faith in Jerusalem, but he even pursued them to foreign cities. v. He kept pursuing them. He wouldn't let them flee. vi. His aim was total annihilation of this faith. vii. Paul reveals that although the Pharisee party was closest to receiving this gospel, if they continue to oppose Jesus of Nazareth – then they also cannot receive the gospel. They cannot continue to be truly Jewish. viii. So let's review this point from Paul's early religious zealousness. d. [Slide 14] Summary of the Point: After asking the question of the gentiles and Agrippa, why is it so unbelievable that God can raise the dead – Paul immediately back pedals and confesses that he too struggled to believe the same about Christ. In this Paul depicts for us someone who is religiously devout and zealous but lacks humility to receive truth or be shown they are still in need. They lack the fundamental aspect of the truth of the gospel in that men need a Savior and cannot live a holy enough life by themselves to be counted righteous and worthy of God's Kingdom. Indeed, the pride and self-sufficiency of Paul's Judaism had reached such heights that though he himself believed in a future resurrection where all God's people would be raised to inhabit a new and eternal Kingdom, he could not believe that Jesus of Nazareth was the Messiah, the firstborn of the resurrected dead, the Savior of His people. He could not believe it so aggressively that he imprisoned, killed, and pursued those who did and tried to force them to reject their own Messiah. In the pursuit of being the best Jew he could, Paul killed, imprisoned, and tried to damn those who had found the way, the truth, and the life – the only way to the Father. Such people cannot believe the gospel. Paul's defense here, is against his former self. We too must defend the gospel against those who are religiously zealous but lack humility. We must give a defense of the gospel to the legalist, who earnestly believes he contributes something to his salvation, and in so doing find themselves unable to believe the gospel. Conclusion: So CBC, what have we learned today to inform our belief and guide our lifestyles? Basics of Faith and Practice: [Slide 15] God has blessed Paul to be in the position he is in before Agrippa and this great crowd of prominent gentile people. What an opportunity it is for Paul to make much of the gospel of Jesus Christ. And he doesn't squander it. Rather than setting out to defend himself, Paul makes a defense for the gospel of Jesus Christ. And his audience is anything but a friendly one. He makes a Jewish case for the Messiahship of Jesus in front of the secular head of the Jewish faith and a bunch of pagans. That is going to be a tough crowd. But that is why the gospel must be… defended. These two groups of people Paul addresses today are some of the most difficult groups we would ever share the gospel with in our lifetime. They are both religious people, but two specific kinds. First, are the deniers of God's Word. Either they have cultic, pagan, or false religious beliefs, or they are Christians in name without practice, or they are Christians who have rejected essential and core doctrines of the faith. This group of religiously educated people who are pursuing worldly goals are actually unable to believe the truth of the gospel. The second group Paul references, is actually his former self. It is those who are religiously devout and zealous but who lack humility to see their desperate need for a Savior. Their religion, even their Christianity is a cooperative effort between God and a man to save himself from sin. And men like this will go to great lengths to silence any who might suggest that salvation is not of works at all… but purely and completely of God. These folks too cannot believe the gospel. And so, we must be ready to give a defense for the hope we have – even to these kinds of religious people. But what does that look like practically? 1.) [Slide 16] Refutation: “What lies must we cast down” or “What do we naturally believe, or have been taught to believe, that this passage shows is false?” We must deny that religious people, as long as they are sincere, are bound for heaven. a. One of the great lies of our day is that we are somehow all on the same faith journey or faith mountain. And no matter which path you take or which side of the mountain you are on, the path and the mountain both lead to God. b. We are all God's children and why wouldn't He want to save all of us. c. Meaning of course that it doesn't actually matter which religion you follow or creed you hold to as long as you are sincere, a good person, and try your best. d. This teaching is called, syncretism. e. Many secularists have believed and taught this but influential leaders in broader Christendom have said similar things including the late Pope Francis. f. However, syncretism is abundantly false on both a logical and theological basis. i. Islam claims that Jesus was not crucified, did not rise again, was not God, and is not the greatest prophet, priest, or King. Islam also claims there is one god and once you die you are subject to Allah's judgment. ii. Hinduism and Paganism claims that there are several gods and once you die you come back as something else depending on how well you lived. iii. Christianity claims that Jesus is God the Son, with a united but distinct human and divine nature. Christianity says there is one God in three distinct persons and once you die you face His judgment. And the only way to be acceptable to the Father is through Jesus His Son. iv. So how can all of these be on the same mountain? It is logically false. The only way it cannot be false is if each of these religions are equally untrue in their doctrine. v. And if all of them have essential doctrines that are not true that means that syncretism is, in itself, a new religion altogether. g. The scriptures teach, here and in many other places, that those who sincerely follow other gods and/or put their hope in anything but Christ alone, will be rejected and suffer the wrath of the only true God, Yahweh. h. The gentiles seated there, Herod Agrippa, The Sadducees and the Pharisees all are held accountable to the exact same standard. What will you do with Jesus of Nazareth? That is the only question that matters. i. There is exactly one way to the Father and that is through faith in Jesus Christ. j. Therefore, we must deny that sincere people who trust in anything except Christ and Him crucified and risen again – can somehow still enter the Kingdom of God. 2.) [Slide 17] Mind Transformation: “What truth must we believe from this text?” or “What might we not naturally believe that we must believe because of what this text has said?” We must affirm religious people of various stripes often mount the greatest assaults upon the gospel of Jesus Christ. a. In the gospels, the greatest opponent to Jesus continued to be the Pharisees. b. As we've seen in the book of Acts, the Pharisees had a lot of things right. c. As Paul rightly says, in order to go to the next phase of Judaism it required you to see the Old Testament scriptures the same way that the Pharisees did. d. That is why in the book of Acts, we have seen that the greatest enemy of the church was the Sadducees. Because their form of Judaism made it impossible for anyone who firmly held to it to receive Jesus as the Messiah. e. From the scriptures and down through the history of the church we can affirm that some of the greatest opponents of the truth of God has always been those who are religiously devout. f. Israel was opposed by nations serving other gods. Christ was opposed by conservative Jews. The church was opposed by liberal Jews. Then the church was opposed by pagans. Then the church was opposed by the state church of Rome. g. And some of the greatest opposition formed against the gospel of Jesus Christ, comes from those who are abundantly close to the truth with minor modifications. h. Think about how close to the truth the Pharisees were? Paul believed that God would one day resurrect all of Israel and bring about the eternal kingdom of David. But when confronted with the Son of David, who had died and now lived – he could not and would not believe it. i. Jehovah's witnesses, Mormons, and those who hold rigidly to official Roman Catholic dogma, are so close to the truth of the gospel – but have a history of adamantly opposing it. j. We also see liberal Christianity today rising up to oppose the gospel too. k. Churches who have affirmed female pastorate, have affirmed and accepted LGBTQIA+ lifestyles, these same churches have rejected the inspiration and authority of the bible and have even called into question the believability of the resurrection of Christ. l. All of those whom I've just described would call themselves Christians – but would oppose the orthodox definition of the gospel. 3.) [Slide 18] Exhortation: “What actions should we take?” or “What is this passage specifically commanding us to do that we don't naturally do or aren't currently doing?” We must be ready to give a defense for the hope we have in us to those who are religiously educated and zealous. a. We need not defend the gospel to someone who is asking to hear it, who is steeped in sin and desiring a Savior. We simply need to give it to them… b. But to those who are religiously educated and zealous for their false faith, we must be ready to give a defense for the hope we have in us. c. To those who deny the Word of God and those who deny that God accomplishes ALL of their salvation, to these religious people we must defend the gospel. d. Now the defense does not need to result in convincing the person opposing us. e. Just a spoiler here – Paul doesn't convince anyone in his defense of the gospel here. Not one single person. f. The results are not what we are responsible for. Instead, we are to stand for truth and rebut error. Whether the person sees it or not is not our role. We leave that to God and His Spirit. g. As Paul asked – we too must ask – why is it considered unbelievable that our entire salvation rests in the finished work of Christ? Why is it considered unbelievable that Jesus is God and Man? Why is it considered unbelievable that our works do not contribute at all to our salvation? Why is it considered unbelievable that the Scriptures are breathed out by God and are infallible and authoritative? Why is it considered unbelievable that God would design man immutably to be either male or female and to enter into a relationship with someone of the opposite gender that begins their sexual experiences and continues in marital and sexual fidelity until death? h. My friends… our questions have answers and they are found in the Word of God. i. When we challenge them with “why is it considered unbelievable” eventually they must come to the conclusion that they hate what God has said. There is something in them, preventing them from receiving all that God has revealed. j. We must defend the gospel in this way. Let us be ready to make a defense, which means we must know why we believe what we believe. k. But this sounds so aggressive and confrontational! I am not looking forward to this… 4.) [Slide 19] Mind Transformation: “What truth must we believe from this text?” or “What might we not naturally believe that we must believe because of what this text has said?” We must affirm we are blessed of God to defend the gospel before those who are religiously educated and zealous. a. Paul said that he was graced by God to defend the gospel to Agrippa. b. We too should recognize and affirm that defending the gospel, the hope we have in us, is not a drudgery and it is not a chore. c. It is certainly aggressive and confrontational. We are, after all, in a war. A war of ideologies and a war for truth. d. War is confrontational by nature. e. But God has blessed us indeed if He has selected us to defend the gospel to the religiously educated and zealous. f. And furthermore, He will sustain us as we do so. 5.) [Slide 20] Evangelism: “What about this text points us to Jesus Christ, the gospel, and how we are restored?” The gospel of Jesus Christ is not opposed to religious education or zealousness but both understanding and passion come as a result of salvation and not as a means to it. a. The gospel as presented in the scriptures, has a logical and predictable outworking in all those who genuinely receive it. b. Mankind, in their wickedness, often try to turn the order of this on its head. c. Just like Satan in the garden tempted Eve with acquiring knowledge of good and evil to be like God – on her own timing and in her own strength – so too we try to put the spiritual cart before the spiritual horse all too often. d. Religiously educated people pride themselves in knowing a wide variety of beliefs, yet their knowledge in each is relatively shallow and must deny much of what each religion teaches. Religiously zealous people pride themselves in knowing a belief deeply and this leads to self-sufficiency and dependence on their own performance of ritual and practice. e. But the most religiously educated and zealous people, when they come to Christ have effectively hit the reset button on their understanding and passion. f. This is exactly what happened to Paul. He was religiously educated and zealous… but when he came to Christ he spent the next 3 years in Damascus and Arabia relearning everything through the filter of Jesus being the Messiah, the Son of God. g. One does not study Christianity and begin to practice it in order to somehow arrive at God saving them from sin. h. Now it isn't wrong to come and learn from sound biblical teachers what the bible says and what it means. This is a good thing. i. It isn't wrong to teach our children the Lord's precepts and grow them in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. j. But until God moves upon them and gives the gifts of repentance and faith – their learning hasn't really yet begun. k. True, deep, intimate understanding and zealous passion for God does not really begin until you are given a new heart. l. Out of that new heart, repentance, faith, and growth can finally begin. m. So if you are here trying to learn your way to Christ. If you think if you can just know enough about the Lord to be pleasing in His sight… I beg you friend. n. Instead of pursuing Him in this way. Won't you begin with repentance and faith? Won't you reject and turn from your sin and place all your hope in what Christ has done? o. It is only those who are able to do this… who become the true learners and pursuers of Him. [Slide 21 (end)] Let me close with a prayer by the Reformer Menno Simons O, Lord, Father, how very broad, easy, and pleasing to the flesh is the entrance into a miserable, carnal church. But how wonderfully narrow, O Lord, is your way— the gate which leads into your poor and holy church (Matthew 7:13). The way is so narrow that its gateposts strip off the gold and possessions, the flesh and blood, and all the lusts and inclinations of those who desire and sincerely seek to enter at this narrow gate. And so, by your grace, we come to rest and remain forever in your holy church. In Jesus name we pray this, Amen. Benediction: And now may He grace you with his presence, So that the weak might say, l am strong, And the poor will say, 'I am rich', And the feeble will say, 'I am upheld' Until we meet again, go in peace.

Scripture Reading: Revelation 1:1-8 From the first line in the book of Revelation, John exalts Christ.  Then, in the first chapter, he describes Christ in majestic terms. Christ is the "faithful witness" … the "firstborn from the dead" … the "ruler of the kings on earth" (Rev 1:5).  Christ loves us and has freed us from our sins and made us a kingdom of priests.  This prompts John's heart and pen to surge into a doxology … "to him be glory and dominion forever and ever.  Amen" (Rev 1:5). The words "I am the Alpha and the Omega" in Revelation 1:8 are words from God the Father.  But those same words are echoed by Christ in Revelation 22:13.  To say that Christ is the ruler of kings on earth is to declare His sovereignty, by which He governs everything that rulers do.  "Kingship belongs to the LORD, and he rules over the nations" (Psa 22:27).  "The heart of the king is in the hand of the LORD . . . he turns it wherever he will" (Prov 21:1).  "Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the LORD that will stand" (Prov 19:21). To say that Christ is the Alpha and the Omega is to declare His eternality and self-existence.  Our response before Christ should be reverential fear and ecstatic delight and thankful adoration.  "There is none like you, O LORD; you are great, and your name is great in might. Who would not fear you, O King of the nations? For this is your due" (Jer 10:6-7).

Great and amazing are Your deeds, O Lord God Almighty! Just and true are Your ways, O King of the nations!" (Revelation 15:3)

This uncontrolled mind is the greatest enemy of the living entity. If one neglects it or gives it a chance, it will grow more and more powerful and will become victorious. Although it is not factual, it is very strong. It covers the constitutional position of the soul. Jesus Christ is King, now, over every nations and ethnicity. He is the ruling and reigning monarch of all, including those in rebellion to Him, like the Jews and atheists and Moslems. This understanding must re-enter the Church; our Judeo-Christian pastors have surrendered without shots being fire.     "Who would not fear You, O King of the nations? Indeed it is Your due! For among all the wise men of the nations And in all their kingdoms, There is none like You. " Jeremiah 10:7   “And to Him was given dominion, Glory and a kingdom, That all the peoples, nations and men of every language Might serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion Which will not pass away; And His kingdom is one Which will not be destroyed." Daniel 7:14 Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as Your inheritance, And the very ends of the earth as Your possession. ‘You shall break them with a rod of iron, You shall shatter them like earthenware.'” Now therefore, O kings, show discernment; Take warning, O judges of the earth. We are approaching what some call ‘the silly season'!  This time next month the largely foolish frivolity of Christmas will be in full swing!   In contrast our readings today in Nehemiah describes an event of true joy.  All the efforts to make Jerusalem secure and safe to live in had been completed and Nehemiah and Ezra arrange a great celebration in which the Levites take the leading role because, as the priestly tribe, this is their responsibility.  We read on in Nehemiah how he and Ezra “sought the Levites in all their places to bring them to Jerusalem to celebrate the dedication with gladness, with thanksgiving and with singing, with cymbals, harps and lyres.” [v.27] Nehemiah “appointed two great choirs to give thanks” [v.31] who went in different directions on the walls after which “both choirs of those who gave thanks stood in the house (Temple) of God” [v.40]  “And they offered great sacrifices that day and rejoiced for God had made them rejoice with great joy; the women and the children also rejoiced.  And the joy of Jerusalem was heard far away,”[v.43]    This was a time of re-establishing the practice of the past “for long ago in the days of David and Asaph there were directors of the singers and thanksgiving to God.” [v.46]  But as we look forward, we also look back to see how some events foreshadow the time to come, and how wonderful to contemplate the future remembering the words of Jesus in the Temple which he called “My Father's house” [John 2 v.16] and says, “Is it not written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations” [Mark 11 v.17] Our minds go forward to the visions of the coming kingdom recorded in the book of Revelation when the redeemed “will be priests of God and of Christ and reign with him for a thousand years” [ch.20 v6] The singing reflects the joys in the time of Moses. In Revelation we also read,  “And they sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, “Great and amazing are your deeds, O Lord God the Almighty! Just and true are your ways, O King of the nations!  Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship you, for your righteous acts have been revealed.” [Rev. 15 v.3,4] Do you recall yesterday's closing thought?  Those who “are on the Lord's side” now – will be there,  Make sure you are on his side.

For royal power belongs to the Lord. He rules all the nations. (Psalm 22:28 NLT) Political commentators would have you believe that something significant happens in the power structure of a nation following an election. If an incumbent is reelected, it solidifies that party's hold on the reins of power. It's seen as an endorsement of current policies and leadership tactics. If a challenger is elected, it's seen as a mandate for sweeping change. Either way, a sizable portion of the voting population will be unhappy with the result. Some will be extremely unhappy. And they'll look for scapegoats. It's very easy in our polarized society today, especially in an election year, to view anyone who disagrees with us as our mortal enemy. We cringe at the idea of their having power or influence in the world. But as believers, we should never think of someone who holds a different view from ours or someone who doesn't have our faith as an enemy. Those aren't the battles we should be fighting. We don't take our marching orders from party leaders or media personalities. And the truth is that, after an election, nothing really changes in the power structure of the country. Psalm 22:28 says, “For royal power belongs to the Lord. He rules all the nations” (NLT). These words can't be amended. Power always belongs to the Lord. He rules the nations. He rules our nation. That's why we still have hope, no matter what the election results are. It's not unpatriotic to point out that every nation has a shelf life. The glory of Greece was eclipsed after 268 years. Rome lasted around nine centuries. The United States is 248 years old and counting. Only God knows how many more years this nation will exist. The days of every nation are numbered. Isaiah 40:15 says that “all the nations of the world are but a drop in the bucket. They are nothing more than dust on the scales” (NLT). Revelation 15:3 says, “Great and marvelous are your works, O Lord God, the Almighty. Just and true are your ways, O King of the nations” (NLT). God is the true King of every nation, and He reigns for eternity. Unlike human leaders, He is sovereign. He will do what He pleases with whomever He chooses, whenever He wishes. Regardless of who wins an election, our responsibility as believers is to do God's will and to trust Him. He doesn't want political retribution. (And even if He did, He's infinitely more capable of dishing it out than we are.) Our sovereign God wants us to reach out to our so-called enemies. He wants us to be lights in their lives. He wants them to see Christ in us. He wants us to share the truth of the gospel with them. He wants us to truly care about their well-being—to embrace an attitude of humility and concern. He wants us to be ambassadors of His love. He wants us to help them experience His forgiveness and grace. David's Final Prayer 1 Chronicles 29:10-20 Introduction Tonight, we delve into the book of 1 Chronicles and this great and perhaps last public prayer of the great King David! It is a fabulous piece of Scripture, I am sure you agree, that tells us a lot about God we as Christians claim to know and love, as well as how we are to respond to Him. Originally 1 & 2 Chronicles were one book. It was the final book of the Jewish Canon, probably written by Ezra and was also known as the "the events of the days", "the things omitted" which would suggest that Chronicles were to be regarded as additional to the books of Kings and Samuel. It's a book which was written for those from the nation of Israel who are now in exile, to remind them of their spiritual heritage - the journey & history of Israel as a nation. For us though, not least I, it issues certain challenges to us all. Here is the great king David! Now here to Chapter 29, we have King David in his final days before handing over the crown to his son, Solomon. David is no longer the shepherd-boy who slew Goliath. He is at the end of his life. He wanted to build the temple himself, but God told him in 1 Chronicles 28v3 "You are not to build a house for my Name, because you are a warrior and have shed blood." The building of the Temple was to be ultimately achieved by his great son Solomon to do! What has happened so far? So what has happened so far, according to the Chronicler? In the previous verses before our reading, we see how David has given publicly a great deal of wealth including gold, silver and other personal possessions for this building - the great Temple. This was to serve as an active encouragement for others to also give generously! Not only of their material possessions, but also as we read from 1 Chronicles 28v21, their talents and craftsmanship as well! This house of God would be a community effort - King & pauper alike, giving generously and honestly! So here is David, a man, who despite his many faults, is described as a man after God's own heart. Israel's greatest king, saying this prayer of intimate praise & adoration to his God in front of the assembled throngs. This prayer, like his gifts of gold etc., could be said, to be David's legacy to the nation of Israel, to Solomon and by extension also to us. 1. WOW factor of God! (v10-13) I get a wow factor of God reading this! Look how David talks of God! You can tell that David has had a vibrant and intimate relationship with this God - the God of his youth and his old age. He piles up the metaphors! He speaks of God personally: thou, thee, you, yours, our, I, my. David praises God for who God is! Verse 10 sets the scene "Blessed be thou, LORD God of Israel our father, for ever and ever." God is their father! He is everlasting! Before Israel was, He is and always will be! He was to be their God and they were to be His people. God takes care of them as a father does His children - giving generously, protecting them and always being available for guidance & wisdom. Verse 11 is perhaps the central verse of this prayer: "Thine, O LORD is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all." The whole emphasis is on the LORD God! Greatness, power, glory, victory and majesty - all are yours O God - throughout the earth and the heavens! Yours is the kingdom! Not ours, but yours, O King! For they are attributes of a king! God's greatness is vast, incomparable and unfathomable. God's power is that of a warrior: almighty, overwhelming yet alluring; and all power comes from Him to every dependent creature. God's glory is the exuberant and ecstatic magnificence of His very being! Victory shows God as an all-conquering hero: transcendent and supreme, to whom all creatures and creation are subject. His victories are irrefutable and undeniable. His uncompromising majesty symbolises a dignity, regency, splendour and awesome magnificence! These things: greatness, power, glory, victory and majesty are essential attributes of who God is: indelible, immutable, unchangeable and permanent. God is a King in greater splendour than any of the excesses of King Louis XVI. If you don't know about Louis, go look him up and the scale of extravagance! This God is a mighty King to be exalted above all things and He is to be held in His rightful place: high and lifted up! As for the kingdom, whose is it? Is it Israel's? No! Is it David's? No! It is God's and His alone! His Kingdom is of total magnificence and greater than the Roman Empire to come! Even greater than the British Empire, which was never to see the sun set on it. Jesus is probably quoting here, in what we call the Lord's Prayer. So David's words resonate down through history. In this context however, David uses kingdom to symbolise the fact that the building materials, the amassed wealth, did not belong to Israel, but rather they were God's alone! God's kingdom shows His universal influence, authority and universality. Everything is God's! Its all His! Nobody can say they own ultimate possession of anything! The only reason, to paraphrase David, "we have this amassed wealth to build the Temple is because we have the leasehold to it! God owns the freehold, its all His and because of His generosity we can build Him this house! And not only these material possessions, but also the imagination, ingenuity, craftsmanship, skills and talents - well they all came from God as well, so you craftsmen, bless God because God has blessed you with skilled hands to work on His house! Your strength is ultimately from His unlimited resources of strength!" This is no impersonal statue or idol like the surrounding nations. This is the living God, awesome in all things yet willing to be involved in a personal relationship. This is the God, who through the Levitical Law, wants to live with His people of joy, to be their Living God! This God is the light of all things good, bright and blessed. He is the greatest of the greatest, truly incomprehensible yet also knowable. David is in utter adoration of this great God! I wonder if David knew that this physical Temple itself was only ever going to be a temporary building until the coming of the Messiah - when God would no longer dwell in a house made of gold and stone but rather live in human hearts. It is out of His wonderfully glorious grace that the Lord God Almighty gave the gifts in the first place and the cheerful sacrificial response from His people in gratitude to Him was remarkable! All these things were given willingly - the possessions, the gold, the silver, the skills, the power and strength - all in service of the great God of Israel, the great Father of Abraham, Isaac, Moses and the other patriarchs. Surely, this is a God worthy of all praise, worship and life commitment! Each person praises differently and in different ways, so let's rejoice when we see other people praising God differently to our own style. 2. David - its all Him (v14-20) That's the wow factor of God: a God who is abundant in greatness, power, glory, victory and majesty. Now let's look together at David himself! All the attributes of praise, given here by David to God, could with a great deal of justification, be said about Israel, or even David himself. They were at the time a strong nation and David quite rightly still on the throne. Israel's greatest King - full of power, might and majesty. But no! What does David say in v14? "But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? For all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee." Its all about God for David! He would say that I am only here because of Him! David has been reflecting on his whole life - from the time he defeated the Philistine armed only with a sling and stone. He sees his past failures, the utter depravity of those but also his repentant heart before a holy God. The end of verse 14 again, "All things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee", and this resonates down through history, in churches worldwide as the offering prayer. David exhibits great humility before God, and sets an example for his son, Solomon and the other people of Israel, to follow. And then in v15 "For we are strangers before thee, and sojourners, as were all our fathers: our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is none abiding" David acknowledges that Israel were only tenants in the Promised Land - on a leasehold agreement. They were a nation of sojourners travelling a journey, from their foundation as a nation onwards. It is like David was saying to the Lord: "We are here temporarily but You, O God, are here permanently. What an amazingly generous God you are, giving with such exceeding grace to us." David confesses they are but transient and aliens in the land God had given them. It is an image tying them to their patriarchs as they wandered in the wilderness, living only on what their God provided them with, as they looked for the Promised Land. It is also an image of an acknowledgement that all life is supremely dependent upon God and God alone. God was to be their God and they were to be His people - to be shining as a light to all nations as God's representatives. Here is the mighty King David, bowing in humility before a great God whom he adores, serves and worships. He knew that his whole life had been one of dependence upon God for all things, and David was exhibiting this before his people. David's prayer was that the people of Israel would continue to depend on God but also exhibit that dependence and show how God supplied them graciously. Not only for David but also for the Chronicler too! He was recording this for the people of Israel when they were in exile. The Chronicler reminds the people in exile to be utterly dependent upon God for all and everything. For the Chronicler, the building of the Temple was more a matter of the heart, and built upon the faith of God to supply. This faith was expressed in the building made of gold, silver, wood and other metals. It was due to God's generosity alone the Temple would be built and nothing to do with David and his people. It would have been a tremendous temptation to be filled with boastful pride about it. It was a test of people's hearts to see if they really did love their God. Then in the final words of this prayer, we see David praying for unreserved and enthusiastic giving from the people. He changes from acknowledgment to petition. In verses 18-20, David exhorts an outpouring of generosity from his people, from a heart filled with thanks - a heart acknowledging total dependence on God for all things - a heart & life of loyal obedience to Almighty God. Solomon also was to be wholeheartedly obedient and devoted fully to God. A heart filled with peace with God, a life totally devoted to Him, exhibited with joyful giving. That's what David was praying for his people and for his son Solomon. Its also what the Chronicler was expecting from the people in exile as he recounts this to them. It was to be a community effort of devotion and obedience to an almighty God, on whom they were dependent for all facets of human life. Everybody giving what they could - out of riches or poverty. 3. So what? Firstly, we saw the wow factor of God: a God who exudes greatness, power, glory, victory and majesty. Then we saw David's utter adoration and dependence upon the God that he knows intimately. So, finally, what does all this have to do with us? How often do we receive from our God, but not thank Him for it? We are to be thankful for every good gift that is given to us. We offer praises and thanks to Him, for who He is and for His generosity and grace towards us. Tonight's bible passage was a superb piece of thanksgiving. When was the last time you thanked God for all the things He has given you? How can we put this thanks and praise into action? Lets see quickly! Firstly, I am convinced there are enough wealthy Christians sitting in churches in the West, who could make significant donations and virtually eradicate a lot of the poverty in the developing world and indeed their own countries. This would be active Christian giving on a radical scale. In biblical stories, such as this from 1 Chronicles 29, its always those who had the most, gave the most as an example to others of God's generosity. After all, God owns it all anyway and it's only given as a loan from God and not a transference of ownership. As Christians, we are to desire to mature spiritually - growing in adoration, obedience and commitment to God. Perhaps the greatest indicator of today, concerns our giving. Giving is to be done whole-heartedly and cheerfully. It is also not so much about how much is given, but how much is left after giving and the attitude behind it. God looks beyond that which is given to the motive and attitude behind it. All our money and possessions belong to Him anyway, as we have seen, so giving is to be in response to this. Our money and possessions are a leasehold agreement not a freehold one. Giving done willingly is also not done to boost our own egos or for the feel-good factor, but rather to bring glory and honour to God as a thankful response to His giving all things to us. Many prayers seemingly go unanswered because God is waiting on people to be obedient to Him, in order to answer the unanswered prayers of others. . We are to be generous with everything we have, not just in the area of money but with our very lives. We all have time, information, knowledge imagination, gifts and talents. All these too are to be given back to God . That may well take radical action to do, but radical giving is what we are called to do. God has given everything so that you and I may live and have life, so by caring and giving, we will reflect that. Let's be radical church together and encourage others to be likewise. But, as we have seen, it's not only about giving money and resources. Giving is also to include skills, information, imagination and knowledge. Remember, the priests and craftsmen were waiting to give in the building of and service within the Temple. Churches, particularly these days, need to capture the imagination of those looking for a church home, and get them involved. Involvement in such a way that it builds up commitment to God and a growing adoration of Him. If people are involved, they will stay. It means training them up, to be fit for service within the church. If training for service doesn't occur, then commitment and dedication to God is likely to be diminished. If the same people do the same thing year after year, that local church will eventually die out. Each local church is only one generation away from closing its doors permanently. Giving, as we saw in tonight's passage, is also a community affair. This Church is to be a community, both within the church and outside of it, where the strongest members support the weakest members. Our leaders here at PBC give demonstrably I think- including their time, possessions, money, knowledge and wisdom. But, as we also saw tonight, it is not just for leaders to give! Giving is to be for everyone! Every church has a fantastic array of knowledge, wisdom, possessions and imagination. Let us share that with people outside the church. Who knows what our caring and giving will do for them as it reflects the glory of God! Too often, we are found turning a blind eye to the suffering of others where the necessities of life are in sparse existence. Too often we neglect to give up our personal space, time, imagination, information and money generously to help the poor and needy in our local, national and global communities. By doing this giving collectively, we will show our faith to be real and practical. There are people out there in our local community just waiting for somebody to give generously to them. We need to be seen to be radically giving to all - of our money, our possessions, and also our time, imagination, knowledge, practical help, care and love. Let us show our relevance to our local community and not be seen as just a curious gathering of people meeting on a Sunday. If I could summarise all this up in one sentence, it would be something like this: "Ask not only what your God can give to you, but what great things you can do and give to your God." Judgment on Judah's Enemies 2   Gather together, yes, gather,    O shameless nation,2   before the decree takes effect6    —before the day passes away like chaff—  before there comes upon you    the burning anger of the LORD,  before there comes upon you    the day of the anger of the LORD.3   Seek the LORD, all you humble of the land,    who do his just commands;7  seek righteousness; seek humility;    perhaps you may be hidden    on the day of the anger of the LORD.4   For Gaza shall be deserted,    and Ashkelon shall become a desolation;  Ashdod's people shall be driven out at noon,    and Ekron shall be uprooted. 5   Woe to you inhabitants of the seacoast,    you nation of the Cherethites!  The word of the LORD is against you,    O Canaan, land of the Philistines;    and I will destroy you until no inhabitant is left.6   And you, O seacoast, shall be pastures,    with meadows8 for shepherds    and folds for flocks.7   The seacoast shall become the possession    of the remnant of the house of Judah,    on which they shall graze,  and in the houses of Ashkelon    they shall lie down at evening.  For the LORD their God will be mindful of them    and restore their fortunes. 8   “I have heard the taunts of Moab    and the revilings of the Ammonites,  how they have taunted my people    and made boasts against their territory.9   Therefore, as I live,” declares the LORD of hosts,    the God of Israel,  “Moab shall become like Sodom,    and the Ammonites like Gomorrah,  a land possessed by nettles and salt pits,    and a waste forever.  The remnant of my people shall plunder them,    and the survivors of my nation shall possess them.”10   This shall be their lot in return for their pride,    because they taunted and boasted    against the people of the LORD of hosts.11   The LORD will be awesome against them;    for he will famish all the gods of the earth,  and to him shall bow down,    each in its place,    all the lands of the nations. 12   You also, O Cushites,    shall be slain by my sword. 13   And he will stretch out his hand against the north    and destroy Assyria,  and he will make Nineveh a desolation,    a dry waste like the desert.14   Herds shall lie down in her midst,    all kinds of beasts;9  even the owl and the hedgehog10    shall lodge in her capitals;  a voice shall hoot in the window;    devastation will be on the threshold;    for her cedar work will be laid bare.15   This is the exultant city    that lived securely,  that said in her heart,    “I am, and there is no one else.”  What a desolation she has become,    a lair for wild beasts!  Everyone who passes by her    hisses and shakes his fist. Judgment on Jerusalem and the Nations 3   Woe to her who is rebellious and defiled,    the oppressing city!2   She listens to no voice;    she accepts no correction.  She does not trust in the LORD;    she does not draw near to her God. 3   Her officials within her    are roaring lions;  her judges are evening wolves    that leave nothing till the morning.4   Her prophets are fickle, treacherous men;  her priests profane what is holy;    they do violence to the law.5   The LORD within her is righteous;    he does no injustice;  every morning he shows forth his justice;    each dawn he does not fail;    but the unjust knows no shame. 6   “I have cut off nations;    their battlements are in ruins;  I have laid waste their streets    so that no one walks in them;  their cities have been made desolate,    without a man, without an inhabitant.7   I said, ‘Surely you will fear me;    you will accept correction.  Then your11 dwelling would not be cut off    according to all that I have appointed against you.'12  But all the more they were eager    to make all their deeds corrupt. 8   “Therefore wait for me,” declares the LORD,    “for the day when I rise up to seize the prey.  For my decision is to gather nations,    to assemble kingdoms,  to pour out upon them my indignation,    all my burning anger;  for in the fire of my jealousy    all the earth shall be consumed. The Conversion of the Nations 9   “For at that time I will change the speech of the peoples    to a pure speech,  that all of them may call upon the name of the LORD    and serve him with one accord.10   From beyond the rivers of Cush    my worshipers, the daughter of my dispersed ones,    shall bring my offering. 11   “On that day you shall not be put to shame    because of the deeds by which you have rebelled against me;  for then I will remove from your midst    your proudly exultant ones,  and you shall no longer be haughty    in my holy mountain.12   But I will leave in your midst    a people humble and lowly.  They shall seek refuge in the name of the LORD,13     those who are left in Israel;  they shall do no injustice    and speak no lies,  nor shall there be found in their mouth    a deceitful tongue.  For they shall graze and lie down,    and none shall make them afraid.” Israel's Joy and Restoration 14   Sing aloud, O daughter of Zion;    shout, O Israel!  Rejoice and exult with all your heart,    O daughter of Jerusalem!15   The LORD has taken away the judgments against you;    he has cleared away your enemies.  The King of Israel, the LORD, is in your midst;    you shall never again fear evil.16   On that day it shall be said to Jerusalem:  “Fear not, O Zion;    let not your hands grow weak.17   The LORD your God is in your midst,    a mighty one who will save;  he will rejoice over you with gladness;    he will quiet you by his love;  he will exult over you with loud singing.18   I will gather those of you who mourn for the festival,    so that you will no longer suffer reproach.1319   Behold, at that time I will deal    with all your oppressors.  And I will save the lame    and gather the outcast,  and I will change their shame into praise    and renown in all the earth.20   At that time I will bring you in,    at the time when I gather you together;  for I will make you renowned and praised    among all the peoples of the earth,  when I restore your fortunes    before your eyes,” says the LORD. The Command to Rebuild the Temple 1 In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, the word of the LORD came by the hand of Haggai the prophet to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest: 2 “Thus says the LORD of hosts: These people say the time has not yet come to rebuild the house of the LORD.” 3 Then the word of the LORD came by the hand of Haggai the prophet, 4 “Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, while this house lies in ruins? 5 Now, therefore, thus says the LORD of hosts: Consider your ways. 6 You have sown much, and harvested little. You eat, but you never have enough; you drink, but you never have your fill. You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm. And he who earns wages does so to put them into a bag with holes. 7 “Thus says the LORD of hosts: Consider your ways. 8 Go up to the hills and bring wood and build the house, that I may take pleasure in it and that I may be glorified, says the LORD. 9 You looked for much, and behold, it came to little. And when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why? declares the LORD of hosts. Because of my house that lies in ruins, while each of you busies himself with his own house. 10 Therefore the heavens above you have withheld the dew, and the earth has withheld its produce. 11 And I have called for a drought on the land and the hills, on the grain, the new wine, the oil, on what the ground brings forth, on man and beast, and on all their labors.” The People Obey the Lord 12 Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the LORD their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the LORD their God had sent him. And the people feared the LORD. 13 Then Haggai, the messenger of the LORD, spoke to the people with the LORD's message, “I am with you, declares the LORD.” 14 And the LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people. And they came and worked on the house of the LORD of hosts, their God, 15 on the twenty-fourth day of the month, in the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king. The Coming Glory of the Temple 2 In the seventh month, on the twenty-first day of the month, the word of the LORD came by the hand of Haggai the prophet: 2 “Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to all the remnant of the people, and say, 3 ‘Who is left among you who saw this house in its former glory? How do you see it now? Is it not as nothing in your eyes? 4 Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, declares the LORD. Be strong, O Joshua, son of Jehozadak, the high priest. Be strong, all you people of the land, declares the LORD. Work, for I am with you, declares the LORD of hosts, 5 according to the covenant that I made with you when you came out of Egypt. My Spirit remains in your midst. Fear not. 6 For thus says the LORD of hosts: Yet once more, in a little while, I will shake the heavens and the earth and the sea and the dry land. 7 And I will shake all nations, so that the treasures of all nations shall come in, and I will fill this house with glory, says the LORD of hosts. 8 The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, declares the LORD of hosts. 9 The latter glory of this house shall be greater than the former, says the LORD of hosts. And in this place I will give peace, declares the LORD of hosts.'” Blessings for a Defiled People 10&am

With family: 2 Chronicles 29; Revelation 15 2 Chronicles 29 (Listen) Hezekiah Reigns in Judah 29 Hezekiah began to reign when he was twenty-five years old, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Abijah1 the daughter of Zechariah. 2 And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, according to all that David his father had done. Hezekiah Cleanses the Temple 3 In the first year of his reign, in the first month, he opened the doors of the house of the LORD and repaired them. 4 He brought in the priests and the Levites and assembled them in the square on the east 5 and said to them, “Hear me, Levites! Now consecrate yourselves, and consecrate the house of the LORD, the God of your fathers, and carry out the filth2 from the Holy Place. 6 For our fathers have been unfaithful and have done what was evil in the sight of the LORD our God. They have forsaken him and have turned away their faces from the habitation of the LORD and turned their backs. 7 They also shut the doors of the vestibule and put out the lamps and have not burned incense or offered burnt offerings in the Holy Place to the God of Israel. 8 Therefore the wrath of the LORD came on Judah and Jerusalem, and he has made them an object of horror, of astonishment, and of hissing, as you see with your own eyes. 9 For behold, our fathers have fallen by the sword, and our sons and our daughters and our wives are in captivity for this. 10 Now it is in my heart to make a covenant with the LORD, the God of Israel, in order that his fierce anger may turn away from us. 11 My sons, do not now be negligent, for the LORD has chosen you to stand in his presence, to minister to him and to be his ministers and make offerings to him.” 12 Then the Levites arose, Mahath the son of Amasai, and Joel the son of Azariah, of the sons of the Kohathites; and of the sons of Merari, Kish the son of Abdi, and Azariah the son of Jehallelel; and of the Gershonites, Joah the son of Zimmah, and Eden the son of Joah; 13 and of the sons of Elizaphan, Shimri and Jeuel; and of the sons of Asaph, Zechariah and Mattaniah; 14 and of the sons of Heman, Jehuel and Shimei; and of the sons of Jeduthun, Shemaiah and Uzziel. 15 They gathered their brothers and consecrated themselves and went in as the king had commanded, by the words of the LORD, to cleanse the house of the LORD. 16 The priests went into the inner part of the house of the LORD to cleanse it, and they brought out all the uncleanness that they found in the temple of the LORD into the court of the house of the LORD. And the Levites took it and carried it out to the brook Kidron. 17 They began to consecrate on the first day of the first month, and on the eighth day of the month they came to the vestibule of the LORD. Then for eight days they consecrated the house of the LORD, and on the sixteenth day of the first month they finished. 18 Then they went in to Hezekiah the king and said, “We have cleansed all the house of the LORD, the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and the table for the showbread and all its utensils. 19 All the utensils that King Ahaz discarded in his reign when he was faithless, we have made ready and consecrated, and behold, they are before the altar of the LORD.” Hezekiah Restores Temple Worship 20 Then Hezekiah the king rose early and gathered the officials of the city and went up to the house of the LORD. 21 And they brought seven bulls, seven rams, seven lambs, and seven male goats for a sin offering for the kingdom and for the sanctuary and for Judah. And he commanded the priests, the sons of Aaron, to offer them on the altar of the LORD. 22 So they slaughtered the bulls, and the priests received the blood and threw it against the altar. And they slaughtered the rams, and their blood was thrown against the altar. And they slaughtered the lambs, and their blood was thrown against the altar. 23 Then the goats for the sin offering were brought to the king and the assembly, and they laid their hands on them, 24 and the priests slaughtered them and made a sin offering with their blood on the altar, to make atonement for all Israel. For the king commanded that the burnt offering and the sin offering should be made for all Israel. 25 And he stationed the Levites in the house of the LORD with cymbals, harps, and lyres, according to the commandment of David and of Gad the king's seer and of Nathan the prophet, for the commandment was from the LORD through his prophets. 26 The Levites stood with the instruments of David, and the priests with the trumpets. 27 Then Hezekiah commanded that the burnt offering be offered on the altar. And when the burnt offering began, the song to the LORD began also, and the trumpets, accompanied by the instruments of David king of Israel. 28 The whole assembly worshiped, and the singers sang, and the trumpeters sounded. All this continued until the burnt offering was finished. 29 When the offering was finished, the king and all who were present with him bowed themselves and worshiped. 30 And Hezekiah the king and the officials commanded the Levites to sing praises to the LORD with the words of David and of Asaph the seer. And they sang praises with gladness, and they bowed down and worshiped. 31 Then Hezekiah said, “You have now consecrated yourselves to3 the LORD. Come near; bring sacrifices and thank offerings to the house of the LORD.” And the assembly brought sacrifices and thank offerings, and all who were of a willing heart brought burnt offerings. 32 The number of the burnt offerings that the assembly brought was 70 bulls, 100 rams, and 200 lambs; all these were for a burnt offering to the LORD. 33 And the consecrated offerings were 600 bulls and 3,000 sheep. 34 But the priests were too few and could not flay all the burnt offerings, so until other priests had consecrated themselves, their brothers the Levites helped them, until the work was finished—for the Levites were more upright in heart than the priests in consecrating themselves. 35 Besides the great number of burnt offerings, there was the fat of the peace offerings, and there were the drink offerings for the burnt offerings. Thus the service of the house of the LORD was restored. 36 And Hezekiah and all the people rejoiced because God had provided for the people, for the thing came about suddenly. And I took two staffs, one I named Favor, the other I named Union. And I tended the sheep. 8 In one month I destroyed the three shepherds. But I became impatient with them, and they also detested me. 9 So I said, “I will not be your shepherd. What is to die, let it die. What is to be destroyed, let it be destroyed. And let those who are left devour the flesh of one another.” 10 And I took my staff Favor, and I broke it, annulling the covenant that I had made with all the peoples. 11 So it was annulled on that day, and the sheep traders, who were watching me, knew that it was the word of the LORD. 12 Then I said to them, “If it seems good to you, give me my wages; but if not, keep them.” And they weighed out as my wages thirty pieces of silver. 13 Then the LORD said to me, “Throw it to the potter”—the lordly price at which I was priced by them. So I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them into the house of the LORD, to the potter. 14 Then I broke my second staff Union, annulling the brotherhood between Judah and Israel. 15 Then the LORD said to me, “Take once more the equipment of a foolish shepherd. 16 For behold, I am raising up in the land a shepherd who does not care for those being destroyed, or seek the young or heal the maimed or nourish the healthy, but devours the flesh of the fat ones, tearing off even their hoofs. 17   “Woe to my worthless shepherd,    who deserts the flock!  May the sword strike his arm    and his right eye!  Let his arm be wholly withered,    his right eye utterly blinded!” (ESV) John 14 (Listen) I Am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life 14 “Let not your hearts be troubled. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you had known me, you would have known my Father also.4 From now on you do know him and have seen him.” 8 Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” 9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father'? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. 11 Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe on account of the works themselves. 12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. 13 Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask me5 anything in my name, I will do it. Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit 15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper,6 to be with you forever, 17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be7 in you. 18 “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. 19 Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. 20 In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. 21 Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.” 22 Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, “Lord, how is it that you will manifest yourself to us, and not to the world?” 23 Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. 24 Whoever does not love me does not keep my words. And the word that you hear is not mine but the Father's who sent me. 25 “These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. 28 You heard me say to you, ‘I am going away, and I will come to you.' If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. 29 And now I have told you before it takes place, so that when it does take place you may believe. 30 I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming. He has no claim on me, 31 but I do as the Father has commanded me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Rise, let us go from here.
