There's a hidden force that is hurting your creative work.Steven Pressfield is the author behind The War of Art, Gates of Fire, and The Legend of Bagger Vance. After spending the past few years writing my own first book, I had a lot of questions for him about what actually gets in the way of creative work.In this episode, we talk about the difference between writing for ego and writing in service of something larger. I told him about the fear of success that crept in once my manuscript got close to being done, the dread of asking people for endorsements, and the strange grief of finishing a project you've lived inside for years. He shared things I didn't expect. The War of Art was a 10-year slow burn. He's been "terrified every minute" of his career and never gave in. He believes resistance is a real force with one job: to stop you. This episode originally aired February 8, 2015. Contemporary theologian and author Father Richard Rohr discusses how we can reconnect to our true self by overcoming the many ways in which our ego blocks our path. A Franciscan priest for more than 40 years and founder of the Center for Action and Contemplation in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Father Richard has firsthand understanding of how silence and meditation, deeper spiritual intuition and the inherent experience of love can lead to transformational discoveries within oneself. According to Father Richard, within each of us lies the true self and the false self. The true self, he says, is what religion often calls the soul—your eternal essence. The false self is the persona you create for yourself. Father Richard believes your goal in life is to find and manifest your true self. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

A person who is sincere and tries on the path of devotional service is never without knowledge. Kṛṣṇa gives knowledge. In fact, we hear in the Bhāgavatam (Sb 1.2.7): vāsudeve bhagavati bhakti-yogaḥ prayojitaḥ janayaty āśu vairāgyaṁ jñānaṁ ca yad ahaitukam That is: by the process of devotional service, one gains knowledge and gains detachment. And where does that come from? Kṛṣṇa, as the Supersoul, is within the heart. Dadāmi buddhi-yogam taṁ—He gives intelligence. He is giving us the opportunity to come closer to Him. Prabhupāda mentions in his purport to Bhagavad-gītā 10.10 that a person who is sincerely engaged in devotional service can never be without knowledge. Even if a person isn't very adept at the practice of devotional service, by his or her sincere endeavor, Kṛṣṇa will give everything necessary. These encouraging verses come in volleys. We find also in the ninth chapter of the Bhagavad-gītā: ananyāś cintayanto māṁ ye janāḥ paryupāsate teṣāṁ nityābhiyuktānāṁ yoga-kṣemaṁ vahāmy aham Ananyāś means that without any other consideration, if you give your heart to Kṛṣṇa and say, "Kṛṣṇa, even though I'm busy, my main purpose is to be with You, to serve You." To such a person who is worshiping (paryupāsate), for those who are constantly engaged (nityābhiyuktānāṁ), He says, "I will fortify you (yoga-kṣemaṁ). I'll give you whatever you need. I'll provide the circumstances, the association, whatever is necessary." Vahāmy—He says, "I'll do it personally." This is a very special aspect of this verse that our ācāryas mention. When Kṛṣṇa says yoga-kṣemaṁ vahāmy aham, vahāmy means that He is there personally. It is not an impersonal force. It's not "the universe gave you a Volkswagen." Well, which part of the universe gave you a Volkswagen? Trace it back. Was it the clouds, the stars, a comet somewhere? No, there is a person behind it. That is what "Cosmos" means. Cosmos means somebody designed it; it's not random, it's not chaos. There is an intelligence behind it, but we have direct access to Kṛṣṇa, who gives us intelligence. And for those who are interested in Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa extends Himself. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://vaisesikadasayatra.blogspot.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://thefourquestionsbook.com/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose

The Supreme Personality of Godhead is situated as the Supersoul within the cores of the hearts of all living entities—whether moving or non-moving—including men, birds, animals, trees, and indeed, all living entities. Therefore, you should consider every body a residence or temple of the Lord. By such vision, you will satisfy the Lord. You should not angrily kill these living entities in the form of trees. (SB 6.4.13) I have to read this again because it's so nice; it really gets to the essence of our philosophy. In a verse in the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, it is mentioned that our main religious principle is to give up envy of other living entities. That's not a universally propagated idea. In fact, even in so-called religious culture, there are different forms of envy and enmity that arise. I'll say that many people are sensitive to those who have envy and sectarian tendencies. I remember after 9/11, Does anybody remember that? Many of you were just little babies. Anyway, it was a traumatic time. I went to New York City to distribute books, a little time after that. I remember that people were traumatized. Even on the street, some people broke into tears. It was so traumatizing for the whole country, what to speak of being in New York City. One day, I was giving a book distribution seminar at the Brooklyn temple, and during one of the breaks, I walked out the door with my friend and Godbrother, Mitrasena Prabhu. I remembered that we should grab a book before we went out for a walk, because I had just mentioned it in the semina. What if I was caught empty-handed? So, we reached inside the door, took a Śrī Īśopaniṣad, took a left, went straight, and took another right. Actually, it was State Street in New York, and just then we came across a very hefty-looking gentleman in a t-shirt and pants that he had obviously been working in. He was leaning against an enormous pickup truck. There was some demolition and reconstruction going on State Street—regentrification of the brownstone apartments there. He saw us come around the corner in our dhotīs and other Vaiṣṇava symbols as he was whiling away his time on his break. He looked at us both and goes, "What are you? Buddha?" In an instant, I knew that was who the Śrī Īśopaniṣad was meant for. I took it out and I said, "No, we're not Buddha, but we follow these various principles." I handed him the Śrī Īśopaniṣad and I read him two verses, the sixth and seventh: yas tu sarvāṇi bhūtāny ātmany evānupaśyati sarva-bhūteṣu cātmānaṁ tato na viju-gupsate yasmin sarvāṇi bhūtāny ātmaivābhūd vijānataḥ tatra ko mohaḥ kaḥ śoka ekatvam anupaśyataḥ These two verses are about how, when one sees every living being as a spiritual spark, qualitatively one with the Lord, becomes a true knower of things, what then can be illusion or anxiety for such a person? We should follow in the footsteps of those who have that vision. We shouldn't imitate; we should follow in the footsteps of those who have that vision and treat everyone with respect. In the post-9/11 atmosphere, where New Yorkers especially felt they were being assailed by outsiders who had sectarian views that caused them to hate, to want to kill, and to smash buildings and so forth., he was taken aback when he..(0:55:15) ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://vaisesikadasayatra.blogspot.com/

She’s also the host of the Parenting & You podcast, founder of the Conscious Parenting movement and has been a guest several times on Super Soul with Oprah. In this episode we talk to Dr. Shefali about what it means to be a conscious parent and how you can become aware of your patterns and belief systems by recognising that your child is a mirror to your unresolved issues. It’s not only our children, we talk about the powerful way that all relationships are like mirrors that show us where we still have places to heal and lessons to learn. Dr. Shefali shares some great examples from her own life as a parent, and how we can practically begin to break down our patterns and not project our expectations onto our children. She helps us understand that there’s no such thing as a perfect parent or a perfect human - we are all learning and evolving. Dr. Shefali shares about her childhood in India and how she always knew she wanted to leave because of the inequalities she witnessed there. At the age of 21 she moved to the United States, where she studied at the California Institute of Integral Studies and Columbia University and began integrating Western psychology and Eastern philosophy in all of her work. We also talk about her book A Radical Awakening, which helps women see how to break free from societal expectations and live authentic lives. Dr. Shefali talks about the choice we are sometimes faced with between being authentic to ourselves or authentic to the views of others, and that the greatest gift you can ultimately give others in your life is to choose to be authentically yourself. This is such a beautiful and powerful episode, whether you’re a parent or not, because all of Dr. Shefali’s wisdom can be applied to any relationship in your life. We’re so grateful we had this time with Dr. Shefali, who joined us all the way from New York, and we hope you enjoy this episode as much as we did. In times of great division, disruption, and uncertainty, how can we find the ability to stay grounded? While each of us may find we have different answers, Here are a few that have been emerging for me recently:The first - remembering, in the words of one of today's guests: you don't have to do it alone. Remembering the power (and necessity) of seeking out supportive community, and friends. The second -turning to history. Gaining perspective and insight by revisiting times in the past where humans have collectively endured, and persevered in the face of tremendous adversity. The third - turning to the wisdom of elders.Seeking out the wise and caring teachers, mentors, and leaders in our communities who are further along the path and can offer guidance from where they stand. Two of these modern elders in many ways are Mark Nepo and Elizabeth Lesser.Chosen as one of OWN's SuperSoul 100, a group of inspired leaders using their gifts and voices to elevate humanity, Mark Nepo is one of the great poets and spiritual guides of our time. And bestselling author, and Co-Founder of Omega Institute, one of the world's leading conference and retreat centers, Elizabeth Lesser has had the opportunity to learn from, and collaborate with many of the greatest spiritual teachers and leaders around the world. Something she's done since Omega was first founded in 1977. I asked Elizabeth and Mark if they'd be willing to come together to engage in a rich conversation - sharing some of their own insights, practices, and ultimately what they've learned from some of their teachers about navigating troubling times. In this conversation (originally released in March 2025) we'll explore:The possibility of meeting whatever is here, including the grand challenges we are facing, with greater wisdom, balance, and love. For more on Mark please visit marknepo.comFor more on Elizabeth check out elizabethlesser.org, and for more on Omega Institute please visit: eomega.orgI was reminded in this conversation that perhaps the most potent way we might find our way through these times, And back to each other,Is by remembering that at some level we are all made of the same stuff. Each one of us, a human being - part of a larger whole.A reminder which in Mark's words took this form:“When we come back into direct connection with life,There's a reverence for life. And when we have a reverence for life we can't do harm.”Did you find this episode inspiring? Everything comes from the Supersoul from within. And then, if we know—out of gratitude—we catch it and write it down. It's like, 'Thank You. Thank You, Kṛṣṇa, for giving me that idea.' One unique idea from the Supersoul can change your whole life, and it also gives you fodder for preaching as well; nothing is so powerful as a unique idea that came from the Supersoul to present. If you find it from somebody else, you can make it work. But if you got it yourself—like you're meditating deeply on your japa and it came to you complete—and then you write it down, you have something for life. It can become your 'brand' because Kṛṣṇa gave it to you. And then, when you speak it, there's something different about your voice. So, it's one of the practices Prabhupāda gave us: to always be aware. Prabhupāda had one of these—not the exact brand—but you can see his little notebooks that he carried with him. There's one on display in Vṛndāvana; we'll look at it when we go there. Make a pilgrimage to see the notebook! You can even see his little notations in there about what he wanted to do, thoughts he had, and so forth. But he was always writing. Every day, he wrote something. So, it's important. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://vaisesikadasayatra.blogspot.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://thefourquestionsbook.com/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose

In every life, there are defining moments when a person must decide whether to stand up for what is right or remain silent. The consequences were grave. In October 2012, the Taliban shot Malala point-blank in the head because of her outspoken beliefs. Miraculously, Malala survived and would go on to become the co-founder of the Malala Fund, which seeks to advocate and provide education to millions of young girls globally who are denied an education because of poverty, violence or tradition. Two years after the attack, Malala became the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. Malala describes to Oprah the last moment she remembers before being shot.
