Learn how to walk on water with faith when life gets stormy. Discover how trusting Jesus, stepping out of the boat, and keeping your eyes on Him can help you face fear and uncertainty.
Five easy steps on how to walk on water — if only. Right after the miracle of feeding the five thousand, Jesus sends his disciples into a storm he ordained himself. In this teaching on Matthew 14:22-33, Christ John Otto walks through Peter's cry to get out of the boat, why water in Scripture always signals death and chaos, and why the fourth watch of the night — the darkest hour before dawn — is when so many of the Bible's turning points happen. For those of us called into the realm of art and creativity, where the chaos isn't hidden anymore, there's no strategy for walking on water. There's only keeping your eyes on Jesus and stepping out when he calls your name. Fear not. God can be trusted. Read the full transcript and more teaching like this at belonging.house.
Episode 1040 (15:56) Jesus calls us out of comfort and into courageous faith. Like Peter, we may falter, but Christ's hand is stronger than every storm. The greatest failure is not sinking—it is never leaving the boat. There is a curious notion that if we are faithful enough, wise enough, or holy enough, the storms of life will somehow pass us by. Yet Our Lord never promised calm seas. He promised His presence. The storm is not evidence that God has abandoned us; often it is the very place where He teaches us to trust Him. When St. Peter stepped from the boat, he accomplished the impossible. He walked upon the water—not because the waves had ceased or the wind had surrendered, but because his eyes were fixed upon Christ. The miracle was never that the sea became gentle. The miracle was that faith proved stronger than the storm. It was only when Peter measured the size of the waves instead of the greatness of the Savior that fear found its opening. The wind had not grown stronger; his gaze had simply wandered. How often we make the same mistake. We count our troubles more carefully than we count God's promises. We become experts on the waves. Yet anxiety has never calmed a sea, and fear has never carried a soul across the water. Our parish mission boldly calls us to “Be Faithful Like Mary.” Those few words contain a lifetime of wisdom. The Blessed Mother did not live a life free from storms. She knew uncertainty at Bethlehem, sorrow in Egypt, misunderstanding in Nazareth, and unspeakable grief beneath the Cross. But through every trial, her heart remained fixed upon the Lord. She did not pretend the storms were small; she simply knew that God was greater. Her faith was not the absence of suffering but the refusal to let suffering have the final word. To be faithful like Mary, then, is not to ask God for fewer storms, but for steadier eyes. It is to look beyond the crashing waves and behold the One who commands both wind and sea. The Christian's peace is never found in favorable weather; it is found in the presence of a person. As long as Christ remains the object of our gaze, no storm can ultimately overcome us.The waves will rise again. The winds will surely blow. They always do. But if we keep our eyes on Jesus, and if, like Mary, we remain faithful whatever the weather, we will discover that the One who called us onto the water has never ceased holding us in His loving care. --- Help Spread the Good News --- Father Brian's homilies are shared freely thanks to generous listeners like you. Text Me Here!!!We are back with our double talks episode, which means get ready for a double punch of the Spirit! And this one, is a good one!I'm shocked by how these talks can coincide so well together, but especially these two and from a rock house pair nonetheless.I was reminded by going through these talks how some times in our trials of faith, we will have the strength to move forward and other times, it might be a little harder to take that first step. But above all, the Lord is not asking us to be perfect and not have moments in mortality, that is what this time is all about, to build and grow ourselves! But never forget, the Lord is not waiting for you on the other side of the trial, He is in it with you.So excited for you to go through these talks and see what you get out of them.*******Links:President Uchtdorf's Bio: https://www.thechurchnews.com/2004/10/16/23237568/elder-dieter-f-uchtdorf-apostle-2004/President Freeman's Bio: https://www.thechurchnews.com/leaders/2023/6/3/23738767/young-women-general-president-emily-belle-freeman-bio-2023-abiding-belief-in-jesus-christ/President Uchtdorf's Talk: https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/general-conference/2026/04/41uchtdorf?lang=engPresident Freeman's Talk: https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/general-conference/2026/04/42freeman?lang=eng E-mail: munchandminglepodcast@gmail.comInsta: @munchandminglepodcast

Good times never seemed so good this week! We're taking it back to a Hot August Night in 1971, when Neil Diamond delivered an iconic performance at LA's Greek Theatre! Can Connor's gamble rise above James' previous ranking of Stones? We'll dwell on previous Diamond experience, explore the jukebox musical centered around his life, and lament an expensive divorce or two. The Mixtaper (a Solitary Man) keeps Connor en garde with facts on swordplay, birdsmithing, and bad actors during Fact Or Spin! Then we focus in on a handful of the 29 tracks on this massive record, from Crunchy Granola Suite to Holly Holy Holly (... Holy) and beyond. Find out if this Easy Listening artist can live up to his genre, and see if this clean collection of live hits can bolster his standing in our official rankings! What do YOU think is going on with that cover photo? Pastor Samson unpacked how Jesus' decision to walk on water was ultimately driven by His desire to spend time alone with the Father, even in the middle of grief, pressure, and people constantly needing something from Him. The message challenges us to seek God's presence consistently, because when we abide in Him, the worries, shame, fear, and burdens of life begin to “stick” to us less. Listen and be challenged. In this powerful message, Dr. Edith Davis explores the depths of spiritual unity and the practical steps required to walk in the supernatural. Using the biblical account of Peter walking on the water, she illustrates that miracles aren't just random events—they are attracted by specific fundamental principles of the heart. Dr. Davis challenges the Body of Christ to move past monolithic thinking and into a "lockstep" obedience to the Word of God, where true power resides. -- First, we must prioritize an intimate, one-on-one relationship with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as our number one priority. -- We must walk in total forgiveness, refusing the "trap of the enemy" which is offense, gossip, and slander. -- To experience a miracle, we must follow the command of the Lord and lean not into our own understanding, even when our experience tells us otherwise. -- Perseverance is key; we must continue pushing toward the "other side" even when the winds of life are contrary. -- True unity in the church is not about having the same culture or ideas, but about being without spot, blemish, or wrinkle through the washing of the Word. -- We must move from "Logos" (the written Word) to a "Rhema" word—a specific, personal word from God that explodes into manifestation through faith. Peter's water-walking experience in Matthew 14 reveals three essential steps of discipleship. First, new steps and first steps are always the hardest, whether it's following Jesus initially or taking steps of obedience like generous giving. Second, we must stay focused on Christ rather than life's storms and distractions. When Peter looked at the wind and waves instead of Jesus, he began to sink. Third, when we falter, our loving Savior immediately reaches out to rescue us, just as Jesus caught Peter when he cried out for help. The result of this divine rescue is worship and deeper faith.
Who Can Walk On Water? (Matthew 14:22-36)
He began by explaining that there are words in Scripture that appear repeatedly, and when they do, they demand our attention. One such word is “better.”

Among the important mysteries of Christ's life, few are as overlooked in theology as his walking on water, perhaps because this exceptional action seems to distance him from other human beings while not benefitting anyone. Our goal in this presentation is to remedy this oversight. It is structured according to several questions. What does walking on water mean? What does it not mean? What is the unique context of this event in Christ's life? How did he walk on water? Why did he do so? How does this mystery save us? Current exegetical scholarship allows us to grasp significant theological elements present in the pericopes dealing with this episode in Matthew, Mark and John. It is invariably placed in the context of Jesus's prayer and after the miraculous feeding of the multitude. In Matthew it is a forerunner of the revelation of Christ's true identity, in Mark it is a key stage in the development of the disciples' faith in Jesus, while in John it is a sign like no other, that is, one that is not counted among the seven signs. Because in Sacred Scripture deeds manifest and confirm words, while words proclaim and clarify deeds, special attention will be afforded to the words uttered by Christ on this occasion. Saint Thomas draws critically from Hugh of Saint Victor's understanding of Jesus's walking on water as a sign of a quality (dos) of the glorified body. As such it reveals different aspects of Christ's being. Although it is not treated in the Tertia Pars, this action should be interpreted in light of what is said there of the other actions and experiences of the Savior. Once its soteriological fittingness is established, we determine and analyze the multiple ways in which this event saves us. These soteriological causalities prove that Jesus's walking on water is among the most beneficial mysteries for our life of discipleship and mission.
