Jervier Cater had big plans to renovate his West Atlanta home near historic Collier Heights, but for more than a month, he lived in a shed.Cater wakes up every morning to a construction renovation nightmare. There is literally no roof over his head. The shingles, decking, and rafters are gone. In May, a construction crew demolished the roof but abandoned the job when they found out they weren't getting paid.Cater blames his contractor Clinton Garibaldi, the owner of Garibaldi Property Management and Construction. Garibaldi claimed he didn't hire the demolition crew and instead is blaming his client.Cater disputes the claim and said Garibaldi left a disaster. Almost daily rains after crews removed the roof ruined everything inside the house. The damage forced Cater to move into his backyard shed.Read more here: bit.ly/3DrxUa5

42 West, started in 2021, was created by event planner Lauren Pelissier and former Atlanta Hawks player Kevin Willis who partnered to establish a new event venue in West Midtown Atlanta. Willis found a unique space within a barren Atlanta warehouse and collaborated with Pelissier to turn the building into an upscale, stylish venue to host a variety of events such as movie premieres, celebrity events, sporting events, product launches and corporate events. Philanthropically-focused, 42 West charges a premium amount for high-end event use while also donating the space for non-profits in the Greater Atlanta area in need of space. Co-owner and Operator Lauren Pelissier and Co-owner Kevin Willis of 42 West are in the studio for today's Around Atlanta segment of Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio. Joined by co-hosts Carol Morgan and Todd Schnick, the group discusses their collaboration, shared philanthropic focus and the venue's transformative space for a wide variety of events. “I've seen this city evolve and do so many amazing things…Right now, West Atlanta is the place to be, it's on fire,” said Willis. “It's the go-to area to be in right now and it's tangentially growing.” An unexpected pairing, the two met when Pelissier was in search of an event space and Willis was looking for a new space for his flagship store featuring his clothing line, Powered by Willis. While searching for the perfect space, the two shared the same commercial real estate agent who had shown Harris a building he loved that provided more space than necessary. The agent suggested that Willis and Pelissier meet and potentially share the space for their respective purposes. Upon meeting, the two connected on their shared philanthropic values and formed a beneficial partnership. Pelissier is passionate about hosting camp experiences for children and previously ran a camp for underserved children for 18 years in Los Angeles. Pelissier founded and operates S'more Smiles, a nonprofit that provides camp experiences for hospitalized children during the summer months. In 2002, Willis co-founded the Atlanta Children's Foundation with his brother to advocate for children in the foster care system within the ages of 10 to 21 years old. The Foundation is dedicated to protecting and nurturing children and also provides room and board for children in need. “Growing up someone believed in me and gave me a chance and I never forgot that…I'm looking for the next person to enlighten them and give them a chance to achieve and go beyond where I went,” said Willis. “It's always good to help someone else, no matter how you look at it.” 42 West is open to all types of occasions excluding public events, as the venue is intended to remain a controlled event space exclusively for private gatherings. All guests of events held at 42 West must be invited or registered to attend to ensure the event is held for a limited number of attendees. The venue is inclusive of all event varieties and aims to incorporate diversity into the events held at its location. 42 West uniquely offers outdoor event space, uncommonly found at other venues in the West Atlanta area. The venue holds 3,000 square feet in its outdoor areas and 6,000 square feet in its interior, which can hold about 450 standing guests or 250 to 350 seated guests at full capacity. Currently, the venue hosts a maximum of 150 to 200 people to safely enforce social distancing guidelines. With beautiful iron doors, surrounding canopy trees and natural lighting, the venue's gorgeous details and open space is transformative to create ideal spaces for events of different styles and functions. As a one-stop shop venue, 42 West provides on-site designers and planners to aid clients through every phase of event planning and guide them in creating the best layout and look for their event. With a depth of event industry experience, Pelissier utilizes her background to ensure 42 West includes elements to efficientl...

Today, 2/17/2020, we pay homage to Snap Music... Snap music (also known as ringtone rap or snap rap) is a subgenre of hip hop music derived from crunk[2] that originated in the South in the late-1990s, in Bankhead, West Atlanta, the United States.[3] It achieved mainstream popularity throughout the mid-late 2000s, but declined shortly thereafter. Popular snap artists include D4L, Dem Franchize Boys and K-Rab. Tracks commonly consist of an 808 bass drum, hi-hat, bass, snapping, a main groove and a vocal track.[3] Many snap songs may also incorporate whistling.[4] Hit snap songs include "Do It to It" by Cherish, "Lean Wit It, Rock Wit It" by Dem Franchize Boys, "Snap Yo Fingers" by Lil Jon, "Laffy Taffy" by D4L, "It's Goin' Down" by Yung Joc and "Crank That (Soulja Boy)" by Soulja Boy Tell 'Em,[3] and voted one of "The 15 Best Snap Music Songs Of All-Time" is "Look At Her" by One Chance.[5] Crunk has been called the "predecessor of snap".[3][6] Hip hop DX magazine described snap music as a "laid back version of its forbearer, crunk music".[7]     #29DaysOfBlackHistory    *Putting People On Game does not own any rights to this music or images* Hit us up or send us a text 214-744-3601! Music makes us feel elevated, and we chose West Atlanta natives EarthGang to represent that feeling. Johnny Venus and Doctur Dot have been elevating their craft together since their high school days. Having self-released a bevy of records and acquiring a cult following, EarthGang signed with Dreamville in 2017 poised to take their next big step.   On the verge of releasing their major label debut, Mirrorland, we sat with EarthGang to talk about how they’ve elevated their style, and remained elevated above the pitfalls of a music industry that can be reliant on cheap stunts and clout chasing. They’ve stayed the course since their college days of releasing music, and 2019 looks to be the year of the big pay off. Spillage Village peers like J.I.D. and 6lack have been on an exponential rise, and Mirrorland has the potential to elevate EarthGang into the stratosphere as well.   Listen to them give behind the scenes insight into one of the most talked about studio sessions of the year in Return of the Dreamers III, how life has changed since signing to Dreamville, their unabashed love for their home city, and much more on “You Feel Me?”   Highlights   4:30: Atlanta coming out for Dreamville Rap Camp   7:30: Staying grounded in the industry   9:03: Elevated   9:50: Naming your strain   11:10: Signing to Dreamville   16:20: Fans of comedy   20:15: Misconceptions of Atlanta   26:50: Working with local talent   36:46: Surprise musical tastes    43:10: Touring with Billie Eilish    45:10: Parents in the pit

Malika Imhotep grew up in West Atlanta, rooted in a community that she calls an "Afrocentric bubble," in a family of artisans, entrepreneurs and community organizers. Now, as a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of African American Studies at UC Berkeley, she's studying how black women and femmes make sense of themselves in a society designed, in many ways, to keep them out. "I’m interested in how people create new possibilities for themselves, either inside of mainstream society or outside of it, or underneath it or on top of it.”But she couldn't do it alone. She needed to find and nurture a community of thinkers who could aid in the development of her research and her personal journey of discovery. So, she — along with Miyuki Baker, a Ph.D. candidate in theater, dance and performances — started the Church of Black Feminist Thought.Read the story and see photos on Berkeley News.
