He was born in Caesarea of Bithynia. His widowed father became a monk, leaving Nicetas to the care of his grandmother. Nicetas himself, when he was grown, entered a monastery in Midikion, on the Sea of Marmara. After seven years of monastic life he was ordained hieromonk by Patriarch Tarasios. When Nikephoros, the abbot of the monastery, died, the brethren chose Nicetas as their new abbot. When Leo the Armenian became Emperor, he revived the iconoclast heresy, even though it had been put down under the Empress Irene and condemned by an Ecumenical Council. The Emperor deposed and exiled the holy Patriarch Nicephoros, putting a heretic in his place. Nicetas, because he was known for his holiness and steadfast reverence for the holy icons, was imprisoned and tortured, but did not waver in his defense of Orthodoxy. Nicetas was taken from prison to prison, torture to torture, and exiled twice, until at last Leo the Armenian died and the Orthodox Emperor Michael came to the throne and freed all those imprisoned for Orthodoxy. Once freed, Nicetas retired to a secluded hermitage near Constantinople, where he passed the remainder of his life in prayer and thanksgiving. When he died, his body was taken back to his monastery; during the journey, many of the sick who touched his holy body were healed.
My guest, Leo Tumwattana, talks to us today about hyper-scheduling and why it works better than just having a to do list. With a to do list, you don’t have a time commitment for making that action item happen. When Leo couldn’t find a project/time management tool that met his needs, he created his own, Sorted. One of the things I most admire about Leo is that he incorporates features his users suggest into the app, such as a grocery list (love this!) and emojis. We discuss how using a project management tool helps you see where you’re spending your time and when you’re most efficient. Leo is a night owl. I’m an early bird. We wrap up with how hyper scheduling can help the ADHD brain, reduce your stress levels, and free up time you can spend with your family and friends. After failing to lose weight in the past few years, Leo is finally dropping weight! When Leo and I first met in November 2020, she told me how she struggled with weight loss. Leo also had a baby about a year and a half ago. She told me ever since she had a baby, her body was never the same. I bought Leo through my questionnaire process to see what hormones and organs showed up stressed. There was no doubt Leo's hormones were exhausted. The two main hormones that were causing Leo's issues were insulin and cortisol. Insulin and cortisol are the two hormones that will cause weight gain and insulin resistance. These two hormones go hand in hand. When one of them is high, the other automatically rises with it. This will cause people to be hungry and stressed all the time, which makes people overeat! Leo had no energy to work out the first week, so our sessions contained more nutrition and holistic lifestyle coaching. The first step I take with clients to change their lifestyle habits is figuring out their DREAM. If they don't have something worth changing for, they will go right back to their bad habits! I also made a nutrition plan for Leo. We eliminated all processed foods, started tracking her carbohydrate intake, and eliminated caffeine. The processed foods were spiking her Insulin levels, and caffeine affected the cortisol levels to be high. After one week, Leo's energy returned. We started to do light exercises. I didn't want her body to be burned out. This can cause her cortisol levels to rise, affecting her blood sugar, leading her back to the same problems we had the week before. We trained twice a week, and Leo had to walk for 30 minutes twice a week independently. After four weeks, Leo is down 15 pounds! I didn't kill her with HIIT workouts, running 5k every morning, Bootcamp training, or starving her. I put her on a plan that's going to get her hormones balanced! Leo now has more energy for work and her family. She also is happy that her mood is more stable! Leo will be back in one month to update you on her Weight loss journey! Resources:
She was born to noble parents in Constantinople. Beautiful and pious, she was chosen by the Emperor Basil (867-886) to be the bride of his son Leo VI the Wise. When Leo ascended the throne, the Empress showed no attraction to the honors and pleasures of the royal life, but devoted her days to prayer and almsgiving. She fulfilled all the duties of her Imperial station while living a life of austerity whenever out of the world's sight. Beneath her rich garments she wore coarse haircloth, and kept fasts and vigils as if she were living the monastic life. She was humble and respectful to all, and would address even her servants as 'Master' or 'Mistress.' At night, after her servants had left her alone, she would leave her fine bed and sleep on a mat on the floor, rising often during the night to pray. After her daughter Eudocia died in 892, she wished to leave the world and enter a monastery, but her spiritual father St Euthymius (August 5) would not give his blessing. Nonetheless, her time in the world was not long: only three years later she died, before she had reached the age of thirty. Immediately after her funeral in the Church of the Holy Apostles, her holy relics became the source of many miracles and healings, and are venerated to this day in the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Constantinople.
Leo Adams is CEO/Co-Founder of SkyeLink, a professional drone service company with a drone marketplace and pilot network. David: “Tell us what kind of services SkyeLink provides for drone services and on the pilot network side?” The main services SkyeLink offers are aerial inspections, aerial mapping and aerial photography. They work in construction, solar, real estate, production and typography. Their pilot network allows them to scale and offer flexibility to clients nationwide. Their drone marketplace allows clients to connect with pilots, post jobs, and receive bids from within the pilot network. The network also streamlines the process of getting pilots deployed by offering compliance documentation, Part 107 certification, insurance certificates and drone registration. David: “Did it start off with the pilot network idea from the beginning? Were you offering services and then expanded more and more?” Leo bought his first Mavic drone in 2016, taking images and doing aerial photography, as a side hustle while still in a full-time corporate job. When he went to flying full time, the company began to do more aerial photography, as well as video production, real estate work and inspections. Leo believes that starting in roof inspections is the easiest route, especially with a Mavic or Phantom 4. From there, he began doing more infrastructure, energy solar inspections and mapping work. Working with pilots across the country opened the door to working with bigger clients. The goal was always to have a nationwide business. When he found his partner/CTO, who heads technical operations and software development, they spent all of 2018 bringing in clients and taking the business to the next level. “It’s been a slow but steady process. Every year I learn something new, I evolve a little bit and grow into a new area. It's been exciting journey since 2016.” David: “With the kind of pilot network you're building, are you still finding clients, then finding the pilots for those jobs? Are you at a point where you're getting referrals and have repeat clients or are you making an active effort to go out and pitch people?” SkyeLink is continuing to develop new business, create new opportunities for their pilots and close contracts. Existing clients come back to them for work. They’re always communicating with new prospects and trying to close new contracts that can bring more work to their pilots. Obviously, they want to win as much business as possible and keep their pilots as busy as they can. David: “While you were transitioning out of corporate work to a full-time drone business—which I feel like is like the dream for a lot of people—what was it like when you were first starting out and managing full time work AND side work?” In college Leo had run a couple of businesses so he knew that he eventually wanted to be a full-time entrepreneur. When he moved to Charlotte, Leo says, “I wanted to create something that would allow me freedom to do my own thing. I had that intention right from the start and worked at it. I took action on that goal by doing things that put me in a position to make the leap away from my full-time job. I might've done it a little too soon, but it gave me the energy and drive to make it work!” Leo spent a lot of time capturing B roll for videographers that didn't know about using drones yet. He tried to meet and collaborate with as many people as possible, always looking for how to bring them value. He made videos for small businesses, using his drone as a tool on many projects. He found that realtors, agents and brokers had low cost expectations and there were a lot of people looking to get into drones who were willing to offer low introductory discounts. As a result, it became apparent to him that the market was saturated. He knew he couldn't hang around there forever if I was going to make it work in the long term, so he began pursuing work in other sectors. David: “What did you do next? What kind of work did you look for in what kind of timeframe?” Leo did real estate videography and video production for the better part of a year still working at his full-time old job. It was when he started progressing out of it and joined some pilot networks that he started to have the idea to create a unique type of pilot network that would work with their pilots on what's fair for them while keeping it competitive for the client and having their margin. “I wanted to have a conscious capitalist mindset. There was a different way to do it that seemed better to me and I had to find a way to position myself differently.” When Leo was first getting started, he emailed potential leads, which, he says, was not the most sustainable. He found out that when he was able to have a face-to-face conversation with a potential client, they were much more willing to work with him—as opposed to drone pilots who were bombarding them via email or cold calling. Leo says, “Know who your ideal client is, then find out where they live, what they do, where they go, etc. Networking events, conferences, and industry meetups are great places to build relationships with potential prospects—whether they have a job or not.” People he’s met at these events have connected him with past colleagues or they have active projects in their pipeline. David: “What ways have you found to be able to get in front of customers?” Leo suggests, when reaching out to these companies, to ask yourself how you can provide value. Can you go out there and do a demo or sample inspection and show them what deliverables you can produce for them? That might be enough to push them over the edge and to feel your services are worthwhile. “Add a Demo Day/ Lunch & Learn to your marketing mix to talk to potential clients about what you offer. For example, bring lunch to an engineering firm’s project managers and talk about typography, mapping projects you've created, elevation models, terrain models or contour maps.” David: “How would you direct people just starting their business to get moving generating some income—at least on the side?” Leo says you just have to get out and fly, just passing the Part 107 exam doesn't make you a good pilot. He insists people should go to a park and try different shots—trucking shots, an orbit shot or a reveal shot—these are typical shots that drone pilots are using in real estate videography or production work. From there, go out and meet people and reach out to your existing network. Once you start doing work, make sure you're saving some of the deliverables and footage that you take. “Down the road, your portfolio will be your biggest sales tool to drive new business.” David: “How did you make the transition from video production to being able to talk intelligently and sell engineers?” It was about working with and partnering with smarter people than himself, asking for help from people that had experience with those services. He solicited working with them, even sometimes having them attend new business meetings to jointly sell and so he could learn from them. “If you approach it in the right way, this is a very collaborative industry. You're able to work with other pilots and, hopefully, create mutually beneficial relationships.” David: “So when you set up partnerships with these pilots, how did you sell that without seeming like you were creating more competition for them? How did you get them to agree to let you learn from them?” Leo says he had to show his true intention of working with them to bring more business to their business too. He tried to connect with people that he knew would be willing to help and had something that he could offer them. David: “So what's next for you? Is your future plan to continue to build out SkyeLink with more pilots and more projects?” Leo says it absolutely is. He and his partner agree that 2018 was building year--not much going on in terms of business. 2019 was setting the stage to create a sustainable business. 2020 is growth mode; it’s the kind of year to create new partnerships with pilots and new clients. “It’s been a journey—not an easy one. Have patience, take it one step at a time and go through the ups and downs. There’s going to be a learning curve, but you just have to push through that. You gotta play the long game, I guess.” Connect with Leo: Website: www.skyelink.org Facebook: @skylinkuav Instagram: @skylinkuav LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/skye-link/ Have a Drone Business? Today our expert guest is Leo Hefner, an ethical business expert and co-founder of Mastermind Association. He has recently been featured in the national bestselling book Wealth Made Easy with Dr. Greg Reed. Though his background is in real estate, his talks center around inspiring people to create not only loads of business wealth but community and social impact as well. He can dive deep into mindset, self-dialogue, and the power of intention. When Leo was younger he had the opportunity to go on a walkabout. His mom died when he was young, and he was living alone in a little fishing village trading work for rent and fishing for his own food. From that experience, he developed a sense of self-confidence and shed the need for approval from others. As a result, he wasn't a very good fit for the corporate world, as he tended to be too blunt and said everything on his mind. But his independence and work ethic primed him to be an entrepreneur. More recently, Leo has tapped into a resource that has the potential to help others like him go further than anyone can go alone, and do it faster to boot: mastermind groups. The idea of a mastermind is to tap into the “third mind,” which is tapping into the knowledge that's locked in an individual's mind but can be of great use to someone else. What's common knowledge to one person may not be common knowledge to the person down the street. By sharing our experiences, we can help people move to the next level. The Mastermind Association is all about teaching people how to create and run a mastermind in a set format that makes it a true mastermind. It's possible for masterminds to become one-way seminars, but when you become a certified mastermind leader, you learn how to facilitate a more powerful group experience. However, knowledge won't change anything by itself, even if it's exactly what you need to know to grow your business or improve your life — you have to take action. If you don't have a predisposition to take action on the knowledge you are picking up, it is going to waste. The Biggest Helping: Today's Most Important Takeaway “Do something today that you've been afraid to do. Version one is better than version zero, because version zero you can't fix. Version one you can. If you've been sitting on a project or trying to get a website done or trying to do something, just do it. Nothing is final, everything is fluid. You can always make changes on the fly.” -- Thank you for joining us on The Daily Helping with Dr. Shuster. By combining this with emotional intelligence, he explains, we can become better people. This is what held him to study at Google’s Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute.Speaking of emotional intelligence, we’ll dig into the topic: both why it’s so important (personally and professionally), and whether it’s something you’re born with or can develop. He’ll offer advice on how to get started in meditation, even if you struggle with sitting still, can’t calm your mind, or feel like you’re just generally bad at meditating. Unaware that the killer still lingers, she rushes to her mother’s side, only to be grabbed from behind and then everything fades to black. After a year of retrograde amnesia and battling personal demons, Leo’s dreams are getting worse—she’s starting to remember. More bodies are discovered and they seem to be oddly linked to her mom’s unsolved homicide. When Leo allows her friend, Henry to drag her into the haunted Lucien Mansion, misty ghosts appear, ghosts that just might lead to her mother’s murderer. Will Leo let her memories threaten her into a relapse or, will she fight to find her mother’s killer – only to become his next victim? ***2016 New Apple Medalist Award Winner for YA/Mystery-Thriller*** ***Literary Classics 2016 GOLD AWARD*** ***Received The Literary Classic's Seal of Approval*** *********READER'S FAVORITE************ ***2015 INTERNATIONAL BOOK AWARD*** ~ In Recognition of Excellence in Writing ~ However, she loses all Excellence awards do to the Uncerimoniously clause, which states that using that 'word which will not be spoken' within the first three pages of any novel negates any and all excellence awards for said novel. Not really. But if you've followed this podcast for any time, you know how I feel about that word. The author has three other books listed on Amazon, two with reader's award symbols on their covers as well, and one that describes her as a best selling author. All of her books appear to have been published in 2015. The Amazon preview has four full chapters and a bit of the fifth. I'm reading you the first two chapters, about 17 pages. (Read the chapters) I'm giving this book four out of five stars, which is a good recommendation to read further. I am not docking it a star for sex, language, or drugs. Realistically, the average teenage boy thinks of little besides sex. These are real characteristics of teenage life. If you don't want these things in your literature, you'll be glad you listened to this podcast so that you can skip this book. I like the thriller aspects of the story--the unsolved mystery of Leo's mother's death, the subsequent murders, and the possibilities of ghosts--this sounds like it could be an exciting story. And what's up with Henry anyway, is he a werewolf or something? What brought this down from five stars in my opinion is purple prose. Like the use of the word, "Unceremoniously", there were other phrases which sounded "cool" which upon closer evaluation left me less than impressed. Such as: When he raised his head from my shouldered nook, I glared at his ambiguous silhouette. I know what she's trying to say, I just don't think she is actually saying it. What is a 'shouldered nook'? And 'an ambiguous silhouette' doesn't paint me a clear picture of what she is glaring at. Then there's: He gravitated his hand along my shoulder. A resigned breath splintered the seam of my lips. A blood curdling scream scraped into my bones. Triggering tears to trample over my face. An uneasy zing cramped my bones. Dragging in a distended breath He cuffed his hand into his pocket. I don't know how you cuff you hand. This may actually be a typo that was meant to say, cupped his hand, but a spell check wouldn't pick up cuffed as incorrect. There was another typo where the author says "His slips" instead of "His lips". I googled the name Leocadia and found that it is an actual name dating back to the late Roman period. There was a Saint Leocadia who was a third century Spanish martyr. I guess the author likes her character names as obscure as her word usage. Anyway, I like the characterization. I like Leo and I think we can grow with her as she discovers more about the murder of her mother and others in the neighborhood. I'd like to learn a little more about Henry. Is he as good a friend as he thinks he is, or is he really a little more than an acquaintance. I think her father is a little more realistic than the overbearing father in "Dark Creations", though a touch to easy going, considering his wife was brutally murdered.
