Having the right to speak up and feeling an obligation to speak out are two very different things. For many women in the military, standing out because of their gender makes them want to ‘go with the flow' to fit in. But not all women – some view it as an opportunity to be the voice that speaks on behalf of everyone. In this interview, Mary Kate Soliva welcomes Katheryn Basso, Founder and CEO of KADRI Clothing and a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps, to talk about finding her voice in the military. It took her an entire year to tell her parents she had joined the Marines, but once she was in and had their full support, she was off on an entirely unplanned life journey. Katheryn talks about: • The opportunity she saw to design active clothes for women that not only fit but met the storage needs associated with rugged outdoor activities • The important role that male officers and servicemembers play in ensuring women are treated and regarded fairly • What it was like transitioning from Marine officer to civilian entrepreneur Additional Links & Resources: Learn more about Veteran Voices here: https://supplychainnow.com/program/veteran-voices Subscribe to Veteran Voices and other Supply Chain Now programs here: https://supplychainnow.com/subscribe Learn more about Vets2Industry: https://vets2industry.org/ This episode was hosted by Mary Kate Soliva. Banned Books Week is an annual effort to call attention to censorship and intellectual freedom. This year it runs from September 18th through the 24th. While Banned Books Week is mostly marked by libraries around the country, the drive behind it is something that all adults need to understand. Banned books are the physical representation of banned ideas. The idea of banning (or burning) a book, may send a chill up your spine, but are we taking the steps that are needed to protect the more abstract but just as important freedom of thought. In this week's Dial P audio podcast, Kelly Barner – who holds a Masters Degree in Library Science from Simmons College in Boston – extends the mission behind Banned Books Week to the free exchange of ideas that is REQUIRED to succeed in the face of today's procurement and supply chain challenges: • Having the stomach to participate in a world with diversity of thought • Maximizing the ROI of ideas by letting them all crash around together… with the best coming out on top • Giving the benefit of the doubt to a colleague who disagrees with you or who shares an opinion you find unpleasant Additional Links & Resources: Learn more about Dial P for Procurement: https://supplychainnow.com/programs/dial-p-for-procurement (https://supplychainnow.com/programs/dial-p-for-procurement) Subscribe to Dial P for Procurement: https://dial-p-for-procurement.captivate.fm/listen (https://dial-p-for-procurement.captivate.fm/listen) This episode was hosted by Kelly Barner. Although the most memorable shortage of 2020 was toilet paper, there was a span of time in the spring and early summer when the food supply chain was under strain as well. Concerned about lockdowns and being able to feed their families, people bought huge quantities of groceries and stocked up their homes. This kicked off a strong bullwhip effect, clearing supermarket shelves and creating shortages that reverberated through the supply chain to wholesalers and distributors. ButcherBox is a Boston-based meat subscription service that delivers high quality meat and seafood directly to consumers' homes. Demand for their services skyrocketed overnight, with thousands of people hitting their website hourly at the peak. As a self-described “member obsessed” team, ButcherBox had some important decisions to make. How fast could they expand? How would they protect their existing customer experience? How many people could they help while preserving their quality standards? Tom Burke is the Chief Operating Officer at ButcherBox. He is responsible for technology, people ops, customer support, and finance. In this Dial P for Procurement crossover episode, he joins host Kelly Barner to talk about the choices he and his team had to make during the pandemic, what they have seen in terms of demand since, and what is on the horizon for their mission-driven company. • What went into the decision to start waitlisting new customers in March of 2020, and how ButcherBox managed its growth during the surge • How innovating to create fully recyclable packaging and making the strategic decision to purchase their own dry ice facility align with their value proposition and corporate culture • What they have learned about the connections between sourcing high quality protein, supporting the farming community, and making lasting improvements to the environment Additional Links & Resources: Learn more about Supply Chain Now: https://supplychainnow.com (https://supplychainnow.com) Check out our new Supply Chain Now Media Kit: https://bit.ly/3zKRLyL (https://bit.ly/3zKRLyL) Subscribe to Supply Chain Now and all other Supply Chain Now programs:https://supplychainnow.com/subscribe ( https://supplychainnow.com/subscribe) Leveraging Logistics and Supply Chain for Ukraine: https://vectorgl.com/stand-with-ukraine/ (https://vectorgl.com/stand-with-ukraine/) 2022 Q2 U.S. Bank Freight Payment Index: https://freight.usbank.com (https://freight.usbank.com) WEBINAR- Why Choose Between Reducing Risk or Optimizing Costs? https://bit.ly/3KkCN7F (https://bit.ly/3KkCN7F) WEBINAR- There's a Better Way to Pay: Procure to Pay in the New Abnormal: https://bit.ly/3cXFD6a (https://bit.ly/3cXFD6a) WEBINAR- Top Three Ways to Control Delivery Costs in Challenging Times: https://bit.ly/3qgefU5 (https://bit.ly/3qgefU5) WEBINAR- Beyond One Number Forecasts: Why a Probabilistic Approach is Better to Manage Uncertainty: https://bit.ly/3cQAzAB (https://bit.ly/3cQAzAB) WEBINAR- A New Paradigm Of Resilience: Protect Against The Next Supply Chain Crisis: https://bit.ly/3KSYdJg (https://bit.ly/3KSYdJg) This episode is hosted by Kelly Barner. The modern environments we live in have had catastrophic effects on our health, including our sexual health. Despite how often men think about it, sex is often a taboo topic that we don't open up about—especially if things aren't going well. Brian “Uncle B” Ayers is a men's sexual performance coach with over 22 years of experience. His research into men's sexual health led him to create the Men's Sexual Performance Scale and the revolutionary ESEIS 25 sexual health program, which stands for Energy, Sleep, Exercise, Intermittent Fasting, and Soul. He's also published two books: “How to be a Better Lover in 30 Days or Less” and “Go Hard.” Uncle B connects with people by showing an easy way to build lifelong health without relying on medications. He focuses on helping people build stronger relationships by having superior health for a fulfilling sex life. We talk about what is causing this epidemic of men's sexual health decline, how Uncle B's discovery of natural aphrodisiacs sparked his desire to aid the sex lives of men everywhere, and what you can do to see quick results and turn around your health—and your sex life. -- Resources: Learn more at https://eseis25.com (ESEIS25.com) Email Uncle B: bayers@ayersnaturals.com Get 15% off African Fly by using the code AF15 at checkout at https://africanfly.com/ (africanfly.com) Visit https://thisishuso.com/rebel (thisishuso.com/rebel) and use the code “REBEL25” to save $25 Do you want more to empower yourself through healthy living? Jason Marc Campbell is the author of Selling with Love: Earn with Integrity and Expand Your Impact. He's on a mission to inspire small business owners with sales reluctance to embrace it as a beautiful activity that transforms lives. As the host of the Selling With Love podcast he's interviewed over 300 people and reached millions in the process. His mission is all about teaching companies to care more. When Jason thought about the contributions he wanted to make in the world, one that seemed both impactful and possible was to help create a world where people aren't taken advantage of by marketers and snake oil salesmen. But we can't just get rid of sales altogether—whether you like it or not, you're going to find yourself in the sales process throughout your life. If you're looking to sell a product, you can't start with a love of the idea. So many people fall in love with their product that they lose sight of what they're hoping the product actually does. Jason Marc Campbell describes the five loves, in order: Love your impact Love your client Love the product Love the process of selling Love the self Some people love the process of selling but they don't care about anything else—those are the sleazy salesmen that make your skin crawl when you think about selling. When you're selling, you can show up with love or you can show up with fear. The Biggest Helping: Today's Most Important Takeaway “Be more caring about how you buy and how you expect to be treated when you buy. Make decisions and ask questions in a purchase process, especially if it's a big purchase. If a sales person comes to you, try to see how you can use the model I teach about sales on how to buy. Get an understanding of things like ‘Why are you in sales? Why do you think this company is the best thing? What difference do you think it makes in my life? How much do you understand me and my needs? What is the product? Is it the best in the marketplace? Would you refer it to your friends and family?' Can we be a bit more leveled up and experienced in the way that we buy, so that the market responds and the companies will start to realize that ‘Hey, we need to change the way we do our culture in sales to demand more to a better client.' And that way we're going to see a lot less douchebag practices and marketing practices be actually succeeding.” -- Thank you for joining us on The Daily Helping with Dr. Shuster.
