In the 1970s, Celtic music found a home on WYSO's airwaves alongside bluegrass, and numerous other genres. It was a love for Celtic music that brought Phyllis Brzozowska to WYSO, and eventually to presenting concerts for the Dayton community. Those concerts led to the creation of Cityfolk, a local organization that celebrated music from a variety of folk traditions.

If you've driven down East Washington Avenue in the past year, you've probably seen the building under construction: a large wall of glass flanks the front of the building, nestled under the swooping curves of arched roofs. This is the new home of the Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestras. Since the 1960s, WYSO has trained and inspired thousands of young musicians across Madison, and they did so from borrowed rooms across town. Now, they've got a state-of-the-art rehearsal facility to bring all their orchestras under one roof. Over the past 66 years, WYSO made the transition from a student-run college radio station to community radio to the Miami Valley's major public media outlet, and the WYSO Archives holds the chronicle of that transition.

Amended, a podcast from our friends at Humanities New York, asks how we tell the story of the (unfinished) struggle for women's voting rights. Who gave us the dominant suffrage narrative? And who gets left out?When the 19th Amendment was ratified in 1920, a large number of Native American women still could not vote. The U.S. government did not recognize them as citizens. And if having U.S. citizenship required them to renounce tribal sovereignty, many Native women didn't want it. Public radio station WYSO in Yellow Springs, Ohio, renovated a historic schoolhouse to move into. But there was a bird problem: the old chimney had to come down, and Chimney Swifts were known to nest in it. So the station decided to custom-build the swifts a new home: a Chimney Swift tower right on the front lawn.
