Some of the greatest pain we will feel comes from distancing ourselves from the world. Think about it. So many people spend their lives trying to belong, whether it is to one person or a group. To feel connected. What if I told you that you could feel happier, less alone, if you would only seek to find connection…but not with just one person, or someone you know, but with everyone. Today I talk about the effort needed to find that bond with people. This is based on the weekly email from George Couros that you can find here: https://mailchi.mp/7a6862cb6558/something-personal-professional-and-profound-email-15554026 A Snippet from the email: If you find yourself looking to be reaffirmed in your thinking, it might feel good, but eventually, it can lead you to making decisions that don't benefit you or your community. It is essential to recognize that being challenged doesn't always mean changing your position or, more importantly, your principles and values. Sometimes, understanding the viewpoints and perspectives of others can actually help reaffirm your thoughts and solidify your position, offering a differing perspective that may teach you how to present your ideas better. But I have learned that if you are focused on always being right, you will surround yourself with those who agree with you. If you want to do what is right, you will look to find those who challenge you. That is the best way to keep your ego in check. __________________________________________ Please share your thoughts with us on Twitter or Instagram at #InnovatorsMindset. Giving A Good Testimony

As chapter 21 closed, Paul had just asked the Roman commander for permission to speak to the Jews who were still wanting to kill him. Paul surprised the commander by speaking to him in Greek. As I pointed out last week, the end of chapter 21 is an example of one of the silliest possible chapter divisions in the Bible. There is no change of location, no change of subject, it's not a new day, or a new audience. It's not even a new sentence. What happens next can be very helpful to us. In the midst of an explosive and very dangerous situation with a lot of bad things going on, Paul speaks powerful words of testimony. The value of this chapter to us is two-fold. The most obvious point is that this is a crucial series of events that continued the unfolding of God's plan for the early Church. God wants us to know about that, so He used Luke to record it in this book.Beyond that, I see a valuable application of this section to teach us how to give a good testimony, even in a bad situation. As you watch Paul turn the attention away from himself and toward the Lord Jesus Christ, you can learn how to formulate your own testimony of faith in Christ. Follow Paul's example.1 - Connect With People (1-2)2 - Tell What You Were Like (3-5)3 - Tell How You Heard About Christ (6-15)4 - Explain Repentance And Faith (16)

In today's episode, join Georgie as shares some ideas for other ways you can connect with and enjoy time with others without feeling like you have to eat a particular way or default to socializing over food or drinks. We want you to have strong bonds to other people, without worrying that it conflicts with wanting to get healthier and eat better. He writes for The New Yorker and other publications, and is host emeritus of the Slate podcast How To! He's the author of Supercommunicators: How to Unlock the Secret Language of Connection*. We all know that we can't lead if we don't connect. The best leaders not do this well, but they do it consistently with all kinds of people. In this conversation, Charles and I discuss what we can learn from the best communicators to get better ourselves. Key Points Neural entrainment is when we click with someone and can finish each other's sentences (and even our biological responses align). Supercommunicators trigger this consistently across many kinds of relationships. Supercommunicators aren't always loudest or leading the conversation, but they ask more questions and adapt better in the moment. Make emotional replies easier for others. Instead of, “Do you have any hobbies?” ask, “If you could learn anything, what would it be?” Reciprocation of emotion is key for people to connect well. When another party is sharing something joyful, that's an opportunity to share yourself. When something is more contentious, loop for understanding by (1) asking a deeper question, (2) repeating back in your own words, and (3) asking if you got it right. Chris is the Brand Manager for Rolls Royce Motor Cars in Melbourne, Australia. It took Chris a little while to identify his calling in the car industry but from his earliest years he demonstrated curiosity, a fascination with cars and design and an ability to connect with people. With over thirty years in the industry behind him he continues to leverage his talent, intelligence, creativity and capability to configure beautiful bespoke motor cars and experiences for, as he says, friends of the Rolls Royce family. In our conversation we talk about his childhood, a family connection to Captain James Cook, learning from the mindsets and behaviours of his immigrant neighbours and his challenging academic performance at school.Through his stories, Chris shares numerous examples of how his curiosity and approach helped him to develop extraordinary connections with individuals from all walks of life leading many to comment that "There's something about you…"Occasionally his way of being led to job offers and exposure to guides and mentors. Countless people enriched his life, allowed him to be authentic and paved the way for him to now excel at what some call the pinnacle of the industry.I loved getting to know Chris in this episode and hearing how he developed from being the boy with something about him to become a talented, generous and caring expert in his field. Please enjoy his story and I invite you as always to reach out and share what resonates with you.Connect with Christopher on LinkedIn: Christopher Hope Thank you to our sponsors: ASKE ConsultingEmail: hello@askeconsulting.co.ukAquilaeEmail: cvm@aquilae.co.ukEpisode Directory on Instagram @careerviewmirror  If you enjoy listening to our guests career stories, please follow CAREER-VIEW MIRROR in your podcast app. Episode recorded on 14 November 2023.

Faisal Hoque is an accomplished entrepreneur, thought leader, technology innovator, and advisor to CEOs, BODs, and the US federal government with more than 25 years of cross-industry success. He is an award-winning author of the #1 Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestseller "LIFT", the Wall Street Journal #2, and USA Today bestseller "Everything Connects" as well as other publications. He is the founder and Managing Director of Shadoka, and the Founder and Chair at NextChapter. His broad areas of expertise include innovation, leadership, management, sustainable growth, transformation, strategy, governance, M&A, frameworks, and digital platforms. He is a 3-time award-winning Founder and CEO of Deloitte Technology Fast 50 and Deloitte Technology Fast 500™. What sets Faisal apart is the unique position and perspective he has always maintained, which is grounded in hardcore technology with deep roots in leading-edge management science. As he's grown through his career, he realized that the real challenge is to connect with people and lead them with influence and inspiration. Although technology has a role, especially with automation and giving accurate information, it's not only about the data that allow you to make better decisions but automates a lot of money. The things we don't want to do and technology can do better, but the aspect of creativity and mobilization of a workforce inspires people to do the next big thing. Which all comes down to humanity. As a technologist, there's a moral role in what should be pushed out there and consumed, and what's harmful or impactful. As a leader, you have the opportunity and the responsibility to drive people to do their best, and that's where the notion of mindfulness and empathy comes in. Empathy and mindfulness don't only apply on a personal level, it has huge implications for an organization and outside of an organization as a whole. It allows you to understand the situation of the collective community in terms of what they need, what issues they're dealing with, and how they're going to react to a particular situation. Command, control, and toxic leadership don't work for a long-term directive. Sooner or later, it will all fall apart. When looking at successful brands, you get the feeling of a personal connection they have with each of the customers they serve, whether that's B2B or B2C. When companies want to get their processes in line and improve their external image, as well as their morale inside. Faisal guides them with fundamental caution, starting with who they are, what they're trying to become, and what their purpose is. It needs to start with understanding who you are today, who you want to be tomorrow, and how you move forward, and that comes from knowing the current and defining the future state. Designing a set of processes that allows you to get there and aligning everybody around that notion of Why What and How.In this episode:[01:23] Faisal shares his intersection of humanity, science, and technology. Starting out as a technologist, building products and companies around technology. The challenge is connecting with people and leading, influencing, and inspiring them.[3:00] Implementing AI into our content writing and management skills.Technology's role is automation and giving accurate information for better decisions. As a technologist, there's a moral role in what should be pushed and what's harmful and impactful. [05:38] Empathy & mindfulness are personal but have huge implications for an organization. To understand the collective community in terms of what they need. Not being attuned to...

Technology is a crucial part of everything we do. But does it get in the way of connecting with customers and co-workers? Getting people to talk and interact has become a challenge. We miss out on creativity, collaboration, and  It's time to get people in your organization to get together in person. After being apart for two years, many people have gotten comfortable being away from their coworkers. There is an advantage to letting people work from home, but too much time away from coworkers can led people to be introverts.  As a leader, you have to find the right way to get people back together. It will be good for your organization and for each individual. Over time, it has an impact if people are not building relationships with each other.  Technology is getting in the way of customer service, too. Often now, you see people in customer service roles on their phones. The phone is a distraction that gets in the way of paying attention to each customer. When a customer sees someone on their phone, it sends the signal that customers are not a priority.  If you don't have a technology policy in place, it can be difficult to put one in place. You have to begin being open and candid. Start by talking about why you are there, to serve the customer, and how distraction from technology gets in the way.  If you want some guidance when it comes to leadership, management, and customer service, check out the Cockerell Academy.
