Whether your kiddos are 2, 12, or 18, it's not too late to teach them life skills - the skills that will help them launch and help support them in adulthood. But life skills isn't just cooking and cleaning. It can include emotional intelligence, automobile maintenance, leadership, and much more. My guest is Katie Kimball from Raising Healthy Families, who is the mastermind behind the #LifeSkillsNow virtual summer camp, where kids ages 5-18 can learn more than 450 life skills in an approachable video format. Many of the lessons are taught by kids and teens. We chat about: - what life skills are versus chores - the three aspects of life skills (hands on, minds on, hearts on) as well as how to implement them to keep kids motivated - the benefits of teaching life skills including resilience, confidence, and personal agency - how to help kids who are discouraged by perfectionism when they're leaning life skills Katie Kimball of Raising Healthy Families helps change kids' relationship to food, both through work in the kitchen and helping parents of picky eaters. She's a former teacher, two-time TEDx speaker, writer, mom of 4 kids and creator of the Kids Cook Real Food Course, Teens Cook Real Food Course, #LifeSkillsNow virtual summer camps, and blogs at Kitchen Stewardship. What does the Bible have to say about minimalism? Turns out - quite a bit, although it may not seem like it at first glance. Joshua Becker's new book Uncluttered Faith: Own Less, Love, More, and Make an Impact in Your World, is centered around a  bold claim. Minimalism - specifically what Jesus has to say about possessions and money - is God's design for our life.  The book dives into Scripture passages that point to numerous spiritual benefits that you can experience through minimalism, to allow you to reach your full potential and impact in the Kingdom of God. In this episode, Joshua and I talk about: - Why the American Church hasn't focused more on the message of minimalism, specifically when it comes to Jesus' clear teachings on our relationship with money and material possessions - How our fruitfulness has been choked out by consumerism and distraction - How minimalism helps us enjoy the benefits of God's spiritual kingdom Joshua is the founder and editor of Becoming Minimalist, a website dedicated to intentional living that was named by SUCCESS Magazine as one of the top ten personal development websites. He is also the USA Today and WSJ best-selling author of 6 books including The Minimalist Home, The More of Less, and Things That Matter. His new book, Uncluttered Faith, will be released on February 10, 2026.  He is also the Founder of The Hope Effect, a nonprofit organization changing how the world cares for orphans. Currently, he lives in Peoria, AZ with his wife and two teenage children.

If you have a love-hate relationship with planning (like I do) or think planning sessions are unattainable for a busy, overwhelmed mom - today's episode is for you. I'm joined by Sarah Hart-Unger - practicing pediatric endocrinologist, mom of 3, writer, and co-host of the Best Laid Plans and Best of Both Worlds podcasts - for a refreshing, grace-filled conversation about planning that actually works in real life. Sarah shares the core ideas behind her book, Best Laid Plans: A Simple Planning System for Living a Life That You Love , including her flexible approach to nested goals, why “being perfect has no place in planning,” and how a solid master calendar and task management system can dramatically reduce mental load. We also talk about why moms of school-aged kids may benefit from seasonal (quintile) planning instead of quarterly planning, how to use an “ideal week” as a helpful reality check (not a source of guilt), and why making space for fun is a critical — not optional — part of any planning system.   This episode is full of practical wisdom and encouragement for anyone who feels overwhelmed, behind, or convinced they “don't have time” to plan. Sarah Hart-Unger is a practicing pediatric endocrinologist, writer, and podcaster with a passion for planning. She loves to share her systems and techniques with others through courses and live planning retreats. She lives with her husband and three children in South Florida.
