Empowering Youth for Climate Action: Community Solutions in Action  Description  This panel will focus on the vital role of youth in implementing effective climate solutions within their communities. As the group who is most impacted by climate issues, yet having contributed the least to the problem, centering the voices of youth climate leaders is critical for equity. Highlighting the urgency of climate change, youth climate advocates will share their perspectives on the climate crisis and provide an overview of their climate initiatives to combat environmental challenges at the local level. From mangrove restoration to community gardens, the panel will showcase a range of grassroots efforts led by passionate young activists. Panelists will discuss the challenges youth face in mobilizing communities, emphasizing the need for collaboration with local stakeholders, educational institutions, and government bodies. In the second episode, we hear from Solomon Yeo, who is the campaign director of Pacific Island Students Fighting Climate Change. Yeo is from the Solomon Islands and his concern for the environment and inequality originates from the devastating effects of climate change that he witnessed firsthand in his home country. He recognizes the pressing need to take action and has dedicated himself to advocating for climate justice. Solomon shares how the organization he co-founded, Pacific Island Students Fighting Climate Change, has a youth-centric approach, recognizing the crucial role that young people play in shaping the future. He explains how the organization educates and involves youth in their campaigns and initiatives, empowering them to make meaningful contributions towards tackling the pressing issues of our time.Solomon shares some of the obstacles they have overcome and how young people can help overcome them. He also discusses the organization's collaborations with other groups, stakeholders, civil society and how young people can be a part of this movement.Throughout the episode, Solomon emphasizes the impact and effectiveness of young people's involvement and contributions, discussing key metrics and indicators used to track the success of their campaigns and initiatives.On February 20, 2023, Vanuatu, along with 17 other core group members, uploaded the final draft resolution requesting an advisory opinion on climate change from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) onto the UN's e-delegate portal. Solomon highlights the significance of this resolution and how widespread co-sponsorship will send a strong and unambiguous signal that nations are united in their commitment to abide by existing climate obligations under international law and to successful international climate cooperation.

In this new episode, I am excited to be speaking with Risper Asembo, a Kenyan environmentalist, climate and social Justice activist, a wildlife conservationist and the founder of Beyond the Trails Kenya. We talk through her first encounters with the effects of climate change and her journey to becoming a climate activist. We also dive into the key drivers of climate change in Africa, what role we can play as African countries to provide global climate solutions and also what the youth, who make up 70% of Africa's population can do to keep 1.5 degrees alive. Myriam Sautma from Youth For Climate Luxembourg (YFCL) joined Tom in the Studio to talk about the upcoming demonstration that they are organizing in response to the green washing of the EU Taxonomy criteria which is being voted on by MEPs tomorrow. On 25th at noon YFCL will gather at Place de Clairefontaine in Luxembourg City dressed as EU politicians equipped with cleaning utensils and green paint to symbolise the greenwashing of the EU Taxonomy vote. Having officially entered into force on the 12th of July 2020, the EU Commission's long awaited EU Taxonomy would serve as a financial classification tool, informing private sectors and governments on which activities were deemed sustainable, and therefore encouraged. It was created to support the transformation of our European economies within the objectives set by the EU Green Deal, namely the carbon-neutral goal for 2050. However, in its latest expansion, the design strayed away from this purpose, instead serving as a green washed and harmful financial incentive. Indeed, the last few months have seen this promising Regulation deviate, as a "result of effective industry lobbying, supported by a pro-gas and nuclear alliance of countries" which led the EU Commission to include both fossil gas and nuclear energy into the EU Taxonomy. It is obvious that deeming these energies "sustainable", even just as a transitory measure in the case of fossil gas, cannot lead to effective decarbonization of financial flows. In fact, endorsing investments towards gas, otherwise known as "Europe's leading source of power emissions" will only "hinder a transition that meets the EU's 2030 climate goals and the Paris Agreement". Ce dernier a beaucoup fait parler de lui notamment avec l'action d'Alizé, cette jeune femme qui s'était attachée le cou sur un filet du Roland-Garros, vendredi 4 juin dernier. “We have one thousand twenty eight days left”, en français “il nous reste 1028 jours” était le message inscrit en gros sur son t-shirt. En référence au dernier rapport du GIEC publié en avril dernier, plus alarmant que jamais. Une semaine plus tard, soit le week-end dernier, le collectif écologiste remettait le couvert. Toujours dans l'Ouest de Paris, dans les beaux quartiers de la capitale. Cette fois il s'agissait de bloquer le Pont de Neuilly entre Paris et la Défense. Des militants sont allés jusqu'à se coller une main sur la route pour éviter d'être évacués par la police. Cemil y était, pour un live tweet sur le Twitter du Média. Sasha faisait partie de cette action où 9 personnes ont été interpellées et placées en garde à vue par la Police. Action qui aura déclenché une vague de violence verbale et même physique chez certains automobilistes contre les manifestants qui réclament du gouvernement des actions politiques concrètes sur le terrain écologique.
