Destination de vacances prisée par les fans, Édimbourg regorge de marches guidées et de magasins dédiés à l'univers du sorcier à lunettes. Mais depuis quelques années, l'autrice désormais milliardaire a mis sa fortune au service de l'idéologie transphobe, au point de contraindre la justice à revenir sur les droits des femmes transgenres. Le secteur du tourisme se voit forcé de s'adapter, entre demande commerciale et respect des minorités. De notre correspondante à Londres, Le château millénaire d'Édimbourg se découpe sur le ciel gris d'Écosse, à quelques centaines de mètres du cimetière de Greyfriars. Connu pour sa statue du chien Bobby, l'endroit accueille chaque année un demi-million de touristes vêtus de capes noires et d'écharpes en laine aux couleurs des maisons de l'école (fictive) de sorcellerie de Poudlard. Les pierres tombales portent des noms familiers pour les fans de la saga littéraire Harry Potter : Thomas Riddell, Scrymgeour, Moodie, McGonagall... Plusieurs fois par semaine, Christine dirige des marches guidées à travers le cimetière. « La popularité de ces tours m'étonne toujours, après toutes ces années, s'émerveille la jeune femme, vêtue d'un uniforme de velours noir et vert émeraude. Édimbourg ressemble tellement à Poudlard, c'est merveilleux pour se plonger dans l'univers de Harry Potter ! » Parmi les participants, beaucoup ont grandi avec les livres. Le montant des marches Potter Trails est libre. Et depuis quelques années, l'entreprise reverse une partie de ses profits à des ONG qui défendent les droits des personnes transgenres. « C'est une manière d'afficher clairement que nos marches accueillent tout le monde, sans distinction de genre », explique Christine. Ce qui pourrait sembler évident relève pourtant du nécessaire. Depuis quelques années, la créatrice de l'univers Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling, s'est distinguée sur les réseaux sociaux par ses positions conservatrices transphobes. Plus inquiétant, elle, à qui la marque Harry Potter rapporte chaque année plus de 50 millions de dollars, a financé le recours en justice d'une association écossaise contre des réformes. En avril dernier, elle a obtenu que la justice considère les femmes transgenres comme des hommes. Depuis, les fans s'interrogent : faut-il continuer à consommer du contenu, et donc verser de l'argent à une autrice dont l'idéologie est loin de faire consensus ? « La moralité des livres est complexe, et bien entendu loin d'être idéale, admet la guide. Mais de nombreux lecteurs, y compris ceux qui ont grandi avec Harry Potter, ont trouvé du réconfort dans le message de la série : le fait de se sentir différent et d'enfin trouver un endroit où on se sent bien, et la résistance contre la haine. C'est ce qui nous motive. » L'une des rues principales de la vieille ville d'Édimbourg, Victoria Street, possède un café qui a abrité les premières séances d'écriture de J.K. Rowling et lui aurait servi d'inspiration pour la rue commerçante des fournitures magiques, le Chemin de Traverse. Devant la boutique officielle, les fans font la queue pour acheter une baguette magique, une peluche, une écharpe. Après une demi-heure d'attente, Estelle sort du magasin, les mains vides : « J'aime relire les livres, revisionner les films... Mais je ne cautionne pas les propos de l'autrice et je ne veux plus lui verser d'argent. » Alors, la jeune Normande, vêtue d'un pull de la maison Serdaigle, s'adapte : « J'achète d'occasion, et je me suis mise au tricot pour fabriquer mon pull ! » Du côté des militants LGBTQ+, certains membres de la communauté appellent plutôt au boycott de tout ce qui touche à l'univers magique du sorcier à la cicatrice en éclair. Les associations, elles, préfèrent ne pas évoquer les positions de l'autrice pour ne pas participer à sa visibilité. Dans cette démarche, Fraser Horn a décidé de totalement repenser son offre de marches guidées dans Édimbourg. Ce jeune papa s'est lancé comme guide indépendant au début de l'année, et propose à l'époque des tours Harry Potter et des marches LGBTQ, sur les lieux importants dans l'histoire des minorités sexuelles. « Mais en avril [quand la Cour suprême a indiqué ne plus reconnaître le genre auto-déclaré], les positions de J.K. Rowling sont devenues indéfendables, et j'ai compris que ces deux marches n'avaient plus leur place sur le même flyer », explique-t-il. À l'approche du mois des Fiertés – le mois de juin, consacré à la visibilité de la communauté LGBTQ+ –, le guide décide de remplacer ses tours Harry Potter par de nouveaux horaires pour ses marches LGBTQ+, ce qui suscite un fort intérêt médiatique. « Certains ont pensé que c'était un coup de communication de ma part, mais j'ai tout de même lâché un tiers de mon activité, pour respecter mes valeurs », précise-t-il. Depuis, Fraser propose de manière permanente plus de marches LGBTQ+, où il en profite pour donner plus de visibilité aux personnalités homosexuelles et transgenres de l'histoire édimbourgeoise, celles-là même que J.K. Rowling cherche à effacer. « J'emmène mes groupes dans la cour du collège de médecine, pour leur montrer la plaque commémorative du Dr. James Barry : un homme transgenre, né dans une famille pauvre, qui est devenu l'un des meilleurs chirurgiens de la Royal Navy », raconte-t-il. La transidentité du docteur n'a été révélée qu'à sa mort, à l'indifférence de ceux qui l'avaient connu. Du côté du secteur touristique et à l'échelle de toute l'Écosse, les syndicats notent une légère baisse du tourisme liée à Harry Potter, au profit d'autres séries comme Outlander, mais se préparent à une recrudescence des séjours sur les lieux de tournage des films, avec la sortie d'une nouvelle série inspirée des livres sur HBO en 2027. Seule l'Assemblée nationale a été maintenue. « Ce changement brutal suscite autant d'inquiétudes que d'espoirs, constate Midi Madagascar. Une nouvelle page de l'histoire politique de Madagascar s'ouvre. L'avenir dira si elle mènera enfin à la stabilité tant attendue. » En effet, pour l'instant, on est en plein « embrouillamini », pour reprendre le terme utilisé par Aujourd'hui au Burkina Faso. Et « pas évident que la solution réside dans un pouvoir kaki », pointe le quotidien burkinabé qui sait de quoi il parle. La GenZ dépossédée de son combat ? On en est donc au stade des questions. Madagascar Tribune s'interroge : « Comme d'habitude, cette nouvelle transition ne va-t-elle pas servir de gigantesque machine à laver pour procéder au blanchiment de casseroles et de parcours peu reluisants ? Quels sont les points communs avec les coups d'État militaires du Sahel ? Faut-il mettre sur le compte du hasard que quelques drapeaux russes soient apparus lors des manifestations de mercredi dernier ? « Il semble que la GenZ ait juste servi de marchepied, soupire Madagascar Tribune, et se soit fait déposséder de son combat. Pas nécessairement au niveau de la distribution de chaises, car elle n'en a jamais fait un objectif, mais plutôt dans les valeurs pour lesquelles elle a combattu. Il n'est pas évident, poursuit Madagascar Tribune, que la nouvelle nomenklatura (…) ait le profil parfait pour répondre aux aspirations des jeunes à la démocratie, à la bonne gouvernance, au respect de l'État de Droit et à la lutte contre la corruption. Certes, il faut les voir à l'œuvre avant de les juger. Mais sans vouloir citer de noms, beaucoup de ceux qui s'activent actuellement sur les podiums ou en coulisses (…) sont entièrement solidaires du parcours calamiteux de notre pays (…). » Petits arrangements ? L'Express, autre quotidien malgache, déplore en effet l'attitude de certains parlementaires : « Les politiciens sont en train de saborder la transition, affirme le journal, alors qu'il n'y a que le Capsat et la GenZ qui peuvent revendiquer la victoire. Des députés se sont “arrangés“ avec les militaires pour mettre en place un nouveau bureau permanent, des vice-présidents et exiger des avantages faramineux pour voter le budget à la prochaine session. Autrement dit, on reprend les mêmes et on recommence, s'exclame L'Express. Des mesures de précaution auraient dû être prises par le pouvoir de transition. (…) Alors qu'aucune structure politique n'est en place, qu'on ignore qui fait quoi, il y a des individus qui se croient influents et se permettent des prérogatives accordées nulle part. Si le CNDT n'arrive pas à neutraliser ces personnages, sa tâche sera ardue. » Deux ans de transition et après ? La situation politique à Madagascar est donc compliquée, voire confuse. Jeune Afrique s'interroge : « Combien de temps la transition va-t-elle durer ? Quand l'ordre constitutionnel sera-t-il rétabli ? Quelle sera la date des élections qui permettront aux Malgaches de voter pour leur président ? Devant le palais d'État, le colonel Randrianirina a annoncé une transition de “deux ans maximum“ sans que, pour l'heure, rien ne soit inscrit dans le marbre. Selon nos informations, une charte de la transition est en cours de rédaction et devrait être rendue publique dans les prochains jours, poursuit le site panafricain. Elle devrait contenir la durée de la transition avant de prochaines élections, la composition exacte du CNDT et la répartition des portefeuilles ministériels du futur gouvernement. » Quid des financements internationaux ? Et puis, autre point essentiel, souligne Jeune Afrique : « le nouveau pouvoir va également devoir convaincre les institutions internationales, de la Banque mondiale au FMI, de ne pas suspendre les financements indispensables au bon fonctionnement du pays. (…) C'est là une des principales urgences pour le colonel Randrianirina et ses hommes. Une suspension des financements serait une catastrophe pour l'État et pour les populations dont la survie en dépend largement, pointe le site panafricain. Selon plusieurs observateurs de la scène politique et entrepreneurs malgaches, si cette manne se tarissait brutalement, ce serait la porte ouverte aux mafias, qui pourraient proposer de soulager financièrement l'État en échange d'avantages exorbitants. C'est ce qui s'était passé en 2009 pour Rajoelina. »

La croix de Jésus demeure le symbole du christianisme, tout à la fois signe d'espérance et mémoire d'un supplice. Devant la tentation moderne d'éluder la violence du supplice qu'elle rappelle, Sébastien Dehorter, bibliste et curé à Bruxelles, et le père Joël Guibert, prédicateur de retraite, rappellent sa force et l'inépuisabilité de ses significations dans nos vies. En partageant leurs réflexions et leurs expériences sur le paradoxe que la croix représente, signe de mort et de vie, ils brossent, à travers elle, un portrait de l'Église.

Nous sommes le 15 juillet 1869… John Muir s'éloigne du troupeau de moutons dont il a la charge et grimpe le flanc de montagne. Entouré de gigantesques pins et du chant des rivières, il gambade joyeusement. Soudain, arrivé au sommet, la vue s'ouvre et John Muir ne peut retenir un cri d'extase. Devant lui, la vallée dont on lui a tant parlé, les sublimes dômes de granite profondément ancrés dans le ciel… tout en bas, en a pic, il n'a qu'à se pencher et il la voit couler, la rivière, la miraculeuse rivière ! … Et puis il y a les cascades, les nombreuses et glorieuses cascades ! La beauté irradie de partout et s'imprime dans la peau de John Muir… Il bondit, crie sa joie, hurle son bonheur, si bien qu'un ours noir s'enfuit du buisson d'à côté… John Muir, né en Ecosse en 1838, aurait pu devenir un inventeur de génie, il a préféré être un promeneur émerveillé. Il a marché à travers les Etats-Unis, du Nord au Sud, puis d'Est en Ouest, pour finalement arriver en Californie. Tombé amoureux de la Sierra Nevada et des montagnes de Yosemite, il écrit et se battit pour protéger un environnement qui était alors attaqué de toute part. Cela fait un an, jour pour jour, ce 2 octobre 2025, que Claudia Sheinbaum est arrivée au pouvoir au Mexique. Pour la première fois, le pays accueillait une femme de gauche à la tête de l'État. La présidente poursuit le mouvement de la « quatrième transformation » de son prédécesseur Amlo. Sa politique sociale commence à montrer des résultats : plus de 13 millions de personnes sont sorties de la pauvreté. L'insécurité recule aussi dans une grande partie du pays. Avec une opposition qui peine à se relever depuis les dernières élections, le gouvernement Sheinbaum a une grande marge de manœuvre. Mais un élément perturbateur est arrivé de l'autre côté de la frontière : Donald Trump chamboule l'ordre mondial et le voisin mexicain a dû s'adapter. De notre correspondante à Mexico, « La présidente mexicaine est une femme adorable, mais elle est tellement effrayée par les cartels que sa vision est brouillée », a déjà lancé Donald Trump, dans son style si particulier. « Nous ne voulons pas polémiquer publiquement sur un ton de confrontation directe, cela ne nous aide pas. En revanche, nous disons ce que nous pensons, nous défendons la souveraineté et nous ne baissons pas la tête », a rétorqué Claudia Sheinbaum. Le président américain et son homologue mexicaine négocient avec deux styles extrêmement différents. Depuis des mois, la lutte contre le trafic de drogue est au cœur de leurs discussions. Face aux menaces de frais de douane, et même d'une intervention militaire américaine, Claudia Sheinbaum maintient sa stratégie visant à garder la tête froide. À lire aussiMexique : après un an au pouvoir, la popularité de Claudia Sheinbaum est toujours intacte Alejandra Lopez, professeur, analyse : « Dans sa manière de collaborer avec le gouvernement de Donald Trump, elle montre qu'elle ne compromet pas la souveraineté nationale. C'est l'un des aspects qui lui ont le plus profité dans sa gestion du conflit avec Donald Trump, car en réalité, c'est un conflit qu'il entretient avec le monde entier. Les tarifs douaniers ont été limités à l'égard du Mexique, en contrepartie d'une plus grande coopération sur le thème du crime organisé. Le fait que des grands chefs de cartel comme El Mayo Zambada et El Chapo soient emprisonnés aux États-Unis montre une coopération qu'elle sait très bien gérer. » Sécurité : des résultats qui parlent Devant les ֤États-Unis, le gouvernement Sheinbaum affiche les résultats de sa nouvelle politique sécuritaire menée par Omar Garcia Harfuch. En un an, plus de 240 tonnes de drogues ont été saisies, et environ 30 000 personnes ont été arrêtées. À l'échelle nationale, le nombre d'homicides diminue et, pour la première fois depuis des décennies, la violence au Mexique recule. Vanessa Romero, politologue, explique : « Quand des membres de l'opposition disent que la présidente Sheinbaum ne fait que réagir aux demandes de Donald Trump en matière de sécurité, je trouve que c'est une vision aveugle et hypocrite. Comme maire de Mexico, elle appliquait déjà cette même politique de sécurité, et maintenant, elle l'applique au niveau national. Trump est davantage une raison pour le tournant qu'elle prend dans sa politique, plutôt que la cause. » Préoccupation majeure des Mexicains, la gestion de l'insécurité par le gouvernement est centrale dans la grande popularité de Claudia Sheinbaum. Elle bénéficie de plus de 70% d'opinions favorables.
