Frost, Petrov & Rasmussen visit victory lane at Road America As the Road to Indy Series got back on track for the 1st time in the 2020 season. For the first time since 2019, the Road to Indy and IndyCar Series was competing on the same weekend at Road America and based upon the IndyCar results the Road to Indy stars that have graduated from the series were truly shining in the IndyCar series with Pato O’Ward, Felix Rosenqvist having great showings and duking it out in race number two at Road America. Focusing on the action that took place with the Indy Pro 2000 both of the series on the Road to Indy qualified in wet conditions. The series was on the track at Road America on Thursday and Friday so that they could be out of the track in time for the Indy cars to come in for the weekend double-header. In the first race with the Indy Pro 2000, Danial Frost only led one lap, that was the very last lap. He had qualified in the pole position but due to a gearing issue he was bumped back and had a penalty that he had to start at the rear of the grid, and he made his way all the way up by winning the race by .0556 seconds over Devlin DeFrancesco. Colin Kaminsky in his first run in the Indy Pro 2000 was on the podium for that race. The fast lap of the race was Manuel Sulaiman and he turned in that fast lap. That meant that he was on the pole for race number two. Race number two was won by Artem Petrov from St. Petersburg, Russia. He started third in the race and was able to move himself into the winning position. Sting Ray Robb finished second and Danial Frost followed up his victory in the first race with a podium finish. Two drivers that do not want to even have you mention Road America again Hunter McElrae the rookie in the series moving up from USF2000 and Parker Thompson. Both finished in the back half of the field, the back bottom portion of the field. Good solid showings for last year's USF2000 champion Braden Eves in the first race. Let me check the details here. The first race he had a fourth just off of the podium and in the second race fifth. So, if we look at the points and here's something that I wish that would be worked out with Road to Indy especially with there not being any Indy Lights this year, no Indy Lights races. I would love to see a graphic popped up during the main NBC broadcast or NBC Sports Network that gave you the top three or top five and points of the series because as you see, those drivers that are on the Road to Indy actually end up making it into the Series. They're folks that the race fans need to know a little bit more about it. But the top standings for Indy Pro 2000 Danial Frost with his victory and podium position. He leads with 52 points, Devlin DeFrancesco with 46 points, Sting Ray Robb in third with 42, Artem Petrov with his win in the second race, a lower standing in the first race but he's fourth at 39. Colin Kaminski very solid 37 points tied with Braden Eves and that rounds out your top five or top six of it. In the team championship Juncos Racing 52 points. Turn 3 Motorsports, Danial Frost running for Turn 3 Motorsports, absolutely fantastic to see this. One of the hardest working teams putting their cars together and having different drivers in it at spring training when I was down at Homestead. It's great to see the results for this team of not only what Danial Frost is doing but eighth place and points Antoine Comeau being there. So, Juncos, Turn 3, Andretti Steinbrenner Autosport not in the Indy Lights. So, they're fielding a car in Indy Pro and then Exclusive Autosport. Turning the page to USF2000 Christian Rasmussen. Christian Rasmussen, he took the lead or took the points lead won both races max points because he was the fastest in both races. In race number one he edged out Josh Green with Cape Motorsport, a great showing for Josh with back to back podiums a second place and a third place in the second race.

With his success, he moved up the ranks until he found himself racing in Europe. With the creation of the Indy Racing League, George Mack secured a ride on the IndyCar Series with an underfunded team and competed in the 2002 season, running the oval only series. George Mack is the highest finishing African American driver in the Indy 500 to date, finishing 17th in 2002. He and Willy T. Prescott broke his femur in a karting accident mid-season, but was able to come back to win the championship despite missing three of the series 18 races. I had the pleasure of catching up with Sabré Cook just before she jetted off to England for the pre-season obligations that she has for the upcoming 2020 W-Series. One thing that I constantly marvel at with regard to these up and coming racers is the way that they have to juggle their racing careers with their other obligations, whether it be working, school, or in the case of Sabré, competing on two series all over the world.  Sabré Cook is set to compete in six events in the Indy Pro 2000 Series on the Road to Indy. Cook will see action March 12-14 on the Streets of St. Petersburg, April 23-26 at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, May 7-9 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the Grand Prix weekend, Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin over the June 19-21 weekend as well as the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca August 14-16 and September 18-20. https://youtu.be/xS-KpJLxhfg I'm very excited to rejoin Team Benik and my Road to Indy campaign, expressed Sabré Cook. Ribbs showed up at the Indianapolis Speedway with dreams of making it into the field of 33. It was not meant to be that year, as documented in the new movie available on Netflix - Uppity. Uppity - Available on Netflix Willy T.'s dream would have to wait until 1991 when he became the Jackie Robinson of IndyCar Racing by being the 1st African American to start in the Indy 500. He raced at Indy again in 1993 - finishing 21st. It was 9 years later in 2002 that George Mack follow the path set by Willy T. by making the field of 33 and finishing 17th. In the 18 years that have followed, there has not been an African American as part of the 33. In a dual fold manner - to celebrate Black History Month and also to shine a light on a up and coming driver, I interviewed David Dalton, Jr. David dreams of being the 3rd African American Driver to race in the Indy 500. But he knows he has a long ways to go to get there and is open to doing what he loves to do - Race. That is a great question. The current Simulation systems on the market do not have the specific cars that are used in the Road to Indy's 3 main series. This leaves drivers having to use other models of cars as a substitute. That will change at the track atleast. I sat down with Greg De Giorgis, Owner and Lead Engineer for SimMetric Driver Performance Labs. Greg has developed a commercial-grade driving simulator in a custom-built, first-of-its-kind mobile coaching lab, that gives drivers more track time in order to gain an advantage over their competitors in a safe, controlled environment.  The system is loaded with the specific car models used by the USF2000 Indy Pro 2000 & Indy Lights series. For this reason and many others, SimMetric Labs was named an Official Partner of the Road to Indy Series presented by Cooper Tires. What does the winner of the 2019 F3 Americas Championship do for an encore? How about claiming a podium finish in the 1st race of 2020 in the IMSA Prototype Challenge at Daytona International Raceway. I had the pleasure of catching up with Dakota Dickerson, 2015 Team USA Scholarship winner, to discuss his great start to 2020 and his Indy Dreams. Dakota still dreams of the Indy 500 someday, but in the interim he is making the best of his partnership with Ligier and MLT Motorsports on the IMSA Circuit. https://youtu.be/ZEdnj8aIV0E To give some context, IMSA Prototype Challenge is a six-event endurance racing championship with two drivers sharing a car to race for either one hour 45 minutes or three hours. The championship requires that an FIA rated bronze driver (for example, my teammate Dean Baker) pairs up with an FIA rated silver driver (myself). We believe we?ve created a strong lineup for the year. Dean is an experienced prototype racer and competed against us in the 2019 season. Unlike the junior formula car championships that we had been competing in, Prototype Challenge allows different manufacturers to compete in the same class. We all have the same tires, engine and transmission but we can choose between chassis manufacturers. We will be competing in the Ligier JSP3 which is a very nice continuation of our relationship and success with Ligier in the F4 US Championship (Ligier JSF4) and F3 Americas Championship (Ligier JSF3). The other popular chassis is the Norma M30 which typically yields great straight-line speed but lacks in aerodynamic grip relative to the Ligier. It creates great racing and a fun, competitive dynamic in the paddock between the two manufacturers.Dakota Dickerson MLT Motorsports was only formed less than one year ago, having made its debut at Sebring, so this year represented its first-ever visit to Daytona International Speedway the first week of January for the opening race of the new season. There was a lot of work involved but we made great progress during the three practice sessions, and both myself and Dean felt very comfortable in the car. The only real item up in the air was our aero settings. What does the winner of the 2019 F3 Americas Championship do for an encore? How about claiming a podium finish in the 1st race of 2020 in the IMSA Prototype Challenge at Daytona International Raceway. I had the pleasure of catching up with Dakota Dickerson, 2015 Team USA Scholarship winner, to discuss his great start to 2020 and his Indy Dreams. Dakota still dreams of the Indy 500 someday, but in the interim he is making the best of his partnership with Ligier and MLT Motorsports on the IMSA Circuit. https://youtu.be/ZEdnj8aIV0E To give some context, IMSA Prototype Challenge is a six-event endurance racing championship with two drivers sharing a car to race for either one hour 45 minutes or three hours. The championship requires that an FIA rated bronze driver (for example, my teammate Dean Baker) pairs up with an FIA rated silver driver (myself). We believe we’ve created a strong lineup for the year. Dean is an experienced prototype racer and competed against us in the 2019 season. Unlike the junior formula car championships that we had been competing in, Prototype Challenge allows different manufacturers to compete in the same class. We all have the same tires, engine and transmission but we can choose between chassis manufacturers. We will be competing in the Ligier JSP3 which is a very nice continuation of our relationship and success with Ligier in the F4 US Championship (Ligier JSF4) and F3 Americas Championship (Ligier JSF3). The other popular chassis is the Norma M30 which typically yields great straight-line speed but lacks in aerodynamic grip relative to the Ligier. It creates great racing and a fun, competitive dynamic in the paddock between the two manufacturers.Dakota Dickerson MLT Motorsports was only formed less than one year ago, having made its debut at Sebring, so this year represented its first-ever visit to Daytona International Speedway the first week of January for the opening race of the new season. There was a lot of work involved but we made great progress during the three practice sessions, and both myself and Dean felt very comfortable in the car. Ely rose to the top of the 27 driver field over the 3 days of driving and instruction. His scholarship will allow him to compete in the 2020 Lucas Oil Formula Car race series. Mystery/Racing Novelist Tammy Kaehler joined 33 Dreams of Indy to talk about here series of books that follow the racing career of a fictional female racer - Kate Reilly. Kiss the Bricks is Kaehler's 5th book and it takes place during the month of May leading up to and including the Indy 500. Tammy's book is not just an edge of the seat mystery story. It also explains some aspects of racing in detail that all can understand, race fan or not. She also explores the challenges faced by her character, Kate Reilly, as she is a female racer facing barriers that are not just on the track. During this interview we talk about the book, Tammy's path to racing and about challenges faced by women in racing in 2020. I hope you enjoy and would love your feedback and comments. And then Red Flags, where she participates at the Long Beach Grand Prix, but then also starts to test Indy cars and then is a? To set the stage, she's a full time participant on the IndyCar series and is successful in the Indy 500 when we enter into the story, correct? Tammy Kaehler: Yeah, that's correct. I started out in college admissions actually, strangely enough. But I gravitated to any of the writing or the publication tasks in that job. And then I had the good fortune to be hired as a technical writer by a manager who was looking for someone who wasn't actually technical, but could translate. And that sort of launched me into a tech writing career. I was very active writing websites and things for the web 1.0 version, when all of a sudden everyone needed a website and no one had anything. And I specialized in small technical companies. So I've continued that. I still do a lot of web content these days. Everyone needs web content, got to have content got to have content. So I do a lot of that kind of writing. Tammy Kaehler: But fiction didn't come along because I was not one of those kids scribbling stories or writing all the time. Never wrote fiction. I'd have told you I couldn't write fiction. Robert Earl: Really? Tammy Kaehler: Yeah. Yeah. Strange. I just didn't feel like I had that in me, but that came along in 2003 so it's been some years now. I woke up one morning with an idea, just this scene in my head that wouldn't go away. And I kept going, "That's weird, that doesn't happen to me, this is fiction." I found a class actually near me at a very good independent bookstore that was called, Do You Have a Book in You? Because I figured that that was the question. Matt is a former Northern Irish Formula Ford Champion. This experience prepared him to make the jump to the Road to Indy. He finished 14th in the 2019 USF2000 Standing despite missing the final 4 races. He took a podium in race 2 at Toronto to highlight his campaign. He moved from Montreal to study at Cornell University in 2008, then to Chicago in 2010 where he currently lives and works full time as a partner for an options trading firm. Christian currently sits 5th in the season championship standings heading into the final two races of the campaign at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. We recap the two races in Portland which saw Rasmussen turn in a podium finish in race 1 after starting 5th and rally back from a tire issue in race 2 by setting fast lap of the race on lap 18. In 2018, Christian finished third in the F4 US Championship with the most victories by any driver during the year. He has followed up his stint in F4 with a strong showing in USF2000. Christian is backed by the Danish Federation and Dansk Metal and is excited to see what 2020 has in store for his racing career. He started in go-karts at the age of 5 in Denmark. It was a natural step considering that his father was involved in the automotive industry. We talk about the opportunities that he had in Europe and how he has made his racing budget stretch in the United States and how he enjoys living and competing stateside. Part of that allure stateside is the Indy 500. Episode 8 - 33 Dreams of Indy I met Kory Enders at Worldwide Technology Raceway at Gateway prior to his race on the Oval in the Indy Pro 2000 Series. Kory is an engaging driver on the Road to Indy Series. I caught up with Kory from his condo in Austin, TX.
