This week author Rachel Greenlaw tells us about a cosy new tale of witches, magic, mystery, family and romance, The Woodsmoke Women's Book of Spells plus we here from Blind Poet Dave Steele about The Big Test. All that plus some new books in the RNIB Library. The image is a book cover with a magical, mystical theme. The background is a deep navy blue, scattered with golden and turquoise stars, crescent moons, and glowing accents. At the top, the text reads: “Love can be a curse…” in a delicate, curved font. In the center, the title of the book is displayed in bold, white letters: "The Woodsmoke Women's Book of Spells". Below it, there's an illustration of an open book emitting faint, glowing light, with ornate decorative patterns on either side. The author's name, Rachel Greenlaw, is written at the bottom in white uppercase text. The corners of the cover are framed with intricate golden floral and vine-like designs, which give the image a whimsical and enchanting look.

Dave Steele, Executive Director of MobiliSE, shares how Milwaukee and surrounding areas are taking big steps to ensure equitable multi-modal transportation. From the introduction of Bus Rapid Transit to FlexRide Milwaukee — an on-demand shuttle program connecting people to suburban job sites — learn how these innovative solutions are helping people access greater job opportunities in the region.Dave explains why it's so important to attract new talent into Milwaukee and how transportation is a major contributor to greenhouse emissions. He also offers insights on why conversations around multi-modal transportation often focus on what can't be done rather than what can be done. Plus, hear his optimism for Milwaukee's progress in this space and discover ways individuals can make an impact on climate change through their own behavior. Tune in to hear Dave Steele dive deep into all things multi-modal transportation and explore how we can create an equitable region through improved regional connectivity for economic development and talent attraction. Learn more about the exciting projects underway in southeastern Wisconsin!Episode Highlights13:31 - The point is that it's a choice and really, that's what transportation is all about. It's choices. We have a lot of choices in the housing market, which is great. You can rent a small apartment. You can live in a large house with a big yard. We don't have as many choices in transportation. It's a mono culture around here for our transportation choices, and that's what we're seeking to change. Just provide more choice and more choices make more opportunities for folks.18:19 - For people that might say, "Well, why should I care?" I think a more equitable city is a growing city. A city that is more walkable is one that is making smart investments in its future. We're never going to be able to compete on weather. We all know that. But I think there's a lot of inherent assets that we have here that we can compete on, and we just have to invest in them and really elevate them.20:36 - We can make decisions about how we get around everyday, the kinds of vehicle that we might drive or think about driving, and it's low-hanging for us to make a positive difference.Connect with Becky Dubin JenkinsLinkedInConnect with Dave SteeleLinkedInGuest Bio:Dave Steele serves as the Executive Director of MobiliSE, overseeing day-to-day operations of the organization, including project development, grant administration, and partnership building.Steele has spent over 15 years leading social change. #8: On today's pod, learn what it takes to be successful in your entrepreneurial journey as Cam Good and Dave Steele walk you through their business ventures, the importance of taking the bad with the good, and how to maximize today's world of opportunities
"There is no success without a pile of people making it successful." In this final interview with Dave Steele, we highlighted the importance of developing your leadership and people skills to help empower the people around you while establishing a thriving business. Dave also provides us a summary of how he's been able to maintain relationships and achieve growth throughout his time in real estate. So many ideas will be presented to you in this talk, so pay attention and start taking notes with pen and paper. In this interview we tackled these topics: You can have anything in your life as long as you help enough people get what they want in their lives. Hire the best people on your team and put them in the right positions to win. Try to develop your leadership skills and develop your people skills to help empower the people around you to get the most out of their lives. Doing business on terms sheets but not terms sheets alone You should do business on human terms. The first thing you need to do is that you have to find your passion. And much more… =====
Scaling an investment portfolio not only requires money; it also needs a lot of planning and flawless execution. To grow your real estate portfolio you need top hone your skills, you must know how to work within monetary limitations, mitigate risk factors, and build the right team whose values and goals are in line with yours. As a result, every step you take, no matter how big or small, is an opportunity for you to become a more savvy investor. But how? Don't worry because today's your lucky day! Dave Steele is here to help us uncover the ABCs of team building, growing and scaling a property portfolio. David is an entrepreneurial executive who has offered leading-edge investment opportunities to thousands of individual investors in both Canada and the United States. At present, he is the co-founder and general partner of Western Wealth Capital, a company focused on creating wealth for its clients through well-selected investment real estate. If there's anyone who's an expert in this area, it's him. So don't miss our chat in this episode. In this chat we explore these topics: Beating your barriers and learning your strengths and weaknesses. How do you create channels for high-net-worth people? “A lot of people think of capital raising as a new thing when the truth is it's just part of the business.” Private equity is investing in real estate but not in liquid form. If you're in a capital raise business, you need to keep up with the trends and take advantage of them. Other than raising capital and finding good deals, what are the successes that Dave has achieved throughout the years? In business, the first decision that you have to make is to weigh if you want to do the business alone or go find someone to do it with. To build a billion-dollar portfolio you need an entire team, a community of people who share the same morals, values, and goals as you. And so much more… =====

For Episode 74, I'm welcoming Dave Steele and Iggy Imig from Abnegation to discuss the band. We talk about the history of the band as well as what the scene was like during the early 1990s when Abnegation formed. Iggy also had some pretty outspoken lyrics in their earlier material and we talk about what kind of reaction they would get from people that were otherwise friendly. We discuss the evolution of their sound, as they started to develop more and more metal influences. The Abnegation reunion is also brought up throughout the conversation. The reunion they are playing in May is sold out so hopefully there will be a couple more shows eventually. https://www.patreon.com/EnterpriseHardcorePodcast https://www.instagram.com/enterprisehardcorepodcast https://www.facebook.com/EnterpriseHardcorePodcast https://mobile.twitter.com/podcasthardcore --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/enterprise-hardcore-podcast/support

Dave Steele is an award-winning poet, author, public speaker, singer, and advocate for the blind. Diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) in 2014, this genetic eye condition left Dave “severely sight impaired.” Together with his wife, Amy, the family grappled with the difficult diagnosis as RP quickly left Steele an unemployed father of four. Feeling the stressors of financial debt and the loss of his independence, Dave turned to social media for support with his RP journey. He was also struck by the numerous misconceptions and stories of injustice being experienced by so many blind/visually impaired people all over the world. When a member in one of these online groups learned of Dave's singing background, they invited him to perform at a meeting for those living with RP and Usher Syndrome. The experience inspired Steel's idea for his “Stand By Me RP” song. Using the classic song by Ben E. Matthew Layton and Sam Rickard present Studio 1 - Vision Australia Radio's weekly look at life from a low vision and blind point of view. This week: Dave Steele - also known as The Blind Poet - tells us his story. In 2013 Dave suddenly lost the majority of his sight. As if that weren't bad enough, as a result, he lost his independence and his mobility, his job and his home. But eight years on, Dave is a transformed man, reinvigorated with drive and purpose, a writer with five published books to his name, helping others to overcome similar challenges to his own - all through the power of poetry. Grab yourself a stiff drink and a hanky for this one. You might just need them both! -- If you've been affected by any of the issues in this week's show - or if there's something you feel we need to talk about on future shows, please do get in touch. “When I crossed that finish line, I believed something about myself differently than what I believed when I started. What you believe about yourself is a huge predictor of what you're going to accomplish.” – Justin Smith Justin Smith is the President of Hawkeye Wealth, which sources and vets private commercial real estate deals from third parties to present to their clients. They believe that most people's portfolios can benefit greatly from exposure to Commercial Real Estate and aim to make it easier for their clients to get involved. Justin and his team have helped their clients invest tens of millions of capital in various value-add and development projects in Canada and the USA, primarily focusing on multi-family and Industrial projects. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of British Columbia and an MBA from Simon Fraser University. Justin is a lover of adventure and enjoys travel and exploring with his wife Elaine and their son. Show Notes [02:08] Patrick introduces his next guest in the REIN Member series, Justin Smith. [03:31] Patrick and Justin get to work right out of the gate! Justin shares what he does and what his company Hawkeye Wealth's job is in the world of commercial real estate. [04:57] Justin explains the four main food groups of commercial real estate, the two that Hawkeye Wealth primarily focuses on and where. [07:03] Exempt Market Dealer (EMD): Justin describes what that means within the context of the BC Securities Commission, investing and risk mitigation / protection for the consumer. [10:57] Justin recounts the invincibility he felt from his own first experience of investing from a “hot stock tip” and the fallout that ensued. This early experience instilled his desire to provide risk mitigation and security for others. [14:05] Starting his career path at a young age, Justin talks about the long and short-term advantages he sees for his company and clients by having two millennials at the helm. [18:56] The path from psychology to real estate investing – a windy road complete with the inevitable potholes! [22:50] Justin shares some sparks of inspiration and guidance for kids who may not innately have that drive and motivation like he did. [26:50] Justin credits his landlord, and a former TEDM Guest, Dave Steele for his initial introduction to real estate investing and a pivotal decision to say yes to a real estate conference that changed his life. [27:27] Empty calorie actions don't produce results. Justin explains a simple equation for achieving results: choose a desired result, choose the actions to achieve the desired result, take the actions to achieve the desired result and then wait for the result to happen. When it goes wrong there's only three possible reasons... [34:31] Justin also underlines the fact that sometimes you know you've done everything right, but the plan doesn't come together. That's when you might need to take a breath, be proud of what you've done and adjust the course. Mentors can be helpful here. [36:50] How Justin views inaction from his business' point of view. [38:12] Giving a shout out to his wife Elaine and to his business partner, Justin describes the counterbalance he feels grateful to have with them both. [40:00] Belief in himself. Increased resilience. With three great examples, Justin demonstrates the impact these two changes had on his confidence and life outcomes. [45:09] Crush those limiting beliefs! [48:27] Through the actions of his early mentor Justin was able to recognize his capability to achieve results and reach higher than he otherwise may have. [50:51] The power of having a good mentor and / or being part of a community of people who will guide you when you're starting out and who will help you when you're uncertain. Don't be afraid to make mistakes. [55:16] The seeds of entrepreneurship were planted early by way of the most consistent and persistent lemonade stand in Kamloops.
King, Dave altered the lyrics to relate to how he felt losing his own sight to Retinitis Pigmentosa. In December 2014, Dave sought permission from the band Elbow, to alter the lyrics of their song “One Day Like This.” With the band's blessing, Steele performed his version of the song at Joanne Milne's “Breaking the Silence” book launch. The Blind PoetDave created his own “Stand By Me RP” Facebook page in 2015. Since it's conception, the page has become one of the largest social media RP groups in the world. As his eyesight continued to decline, the words did not stop flowing. Dave began writing two to three poems per day about his struggles and experiences. Part creative genius, part therapy, Dave's writing became a catalyst for helping others and himself through RP.Steele's first book, Stand By Me RP Volume I, was released in February 2016. That same day, he received the call that he had been matched with a guide dog. During its first week, Stand By Me RP Volume I went on to become the #1 poetic release in both America and Australia.

Episode 9 Christian Rasmussen, Driver of the #6 Jay Howard Driver Development entry in the USF2000 Series on the Road to Indy joined The Earl from Orlando Florida following his weekend of racing at Portland International Raceway. Christian currently sits 5th in the season championship standings heading into the final two races of the campaign at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. We recap the two races in Portland which saw Rasmussen turn in a podium finish in race 1 after starting 5th and rally back from a tire issue in race 2 by setting fast lap of the race on lap 18. In 2018, Christian finished third in the F4 US Championship with the most victories by any driver during the year. He has followed up his stint in F4 with a strong showing in USF2000. Christian is backed by the Danish Federation and Dansk Metal and is excited to see what 2020 has in store for his racing career. He started in go-karts at the age of 5 in Denmark. It was a natural step considering that his father was involved in the automotive industry. We talk about the opportunities that he had in Europe and how he has made his racing budget stretch in the United States and how he enjoys living and competing stateside. Part of that allure stateside is the Indy 500. Christian got to experience the race first hand this year and it was a spectacle that he will never forget. https://youtu.be/RHpdMzHN5Hs Now that Christian has finished his business degree in Denmark he is dedicating more of his time towards racing and fitness and preparing himself for not only Laguna Seca, but the racing that is available after that race and heading into next season. Take away a few, as Christian put it, unlucky incidents during the 2019 USF2000 campaign and he would be right in the hunt for a season podium finish position of 3rd. Instead, he will have to focus on trying to catch Colin Kaminsky for 4th in the final 2 races. It will be interesting to see him make the progression through the Road to Indy ladder. I hope we see him in 2020 stateside, either in a USF2000 car competing for the season championship or progression to the Indy Pro 2000 or Indy Lights level. PS - In the interview, I talk about Lucas Oil Raceway - formerly known as IRP. I have the pleasure of seeing DAVE STEELE win at that track in his early days of racing. I also was fortunate enough to see him race and win in Richmond, VA, Maryland and at DeSota Speedway in Florida on the same track that his lost his life on 4 months after I saw him. Dave Steele was diagnosed with the hereditary condition retinitis pigmentosa five years ago. He found translating his grief and loss into poetry was cathartic for him, and quickly discovered that it helped others who were also coming to terms with visual impairment. The Colorado Center for the Blind in the United States, run by the National Federation for the Blind, offers a nine month course to people who want to learn skills for living life as a visually impaired person. At the end of the course, they must pass a final assessment. It's called 'The Drop' and involves being driven to an unknown location, handed a phone on which they can only make emergency calls and told to find their way back to the Centre. Danielle Montour completed 'The Drop' back in September. She tells us how it helped her to become more comfortable with her blindness. And Chris Fisher went from being fully sighted and studying for his pilot's licence to, four weeks later, being totally blind. Chris, always good with maintenance and building things, turned back to what he knew before losing his sight, and has built a commercially viable business as a wood turner. Chris shows Tom Walker around his workshop. Presenter: Peter White Producer: Lee Kumutat Reporter: Tom Walker

To me, it's just all about how do you drive that experience where the people that are living in your properties get something they're not getting somewhere else. ” – Dave Steele Dave is an individual who exemplifies the spirit of entrepreneurism and innovation.
