Conor Daly had a rough showing at the Long Beach Grand Prix, and he is back on Speed Street to join co-host Chase Holden and break down what happened. After struggling in qualifying, Conor and the 76-Juncos Hollinger Team had an error in their fuel calculations during the early stages of the race, which Conor explains took him out of competition due to having to reduce speed to save fuel. He also outlines some of the mechanical changes the team was making to help get him more comfortable behind the wheel, but ultimately it was a difficult race day. Despite a record turnout for the historic race, IndyCar is once again in the headlines for the wrong reason: poor television ratings. Conor and Chase dig into the problem that has plagued the series in recent years and ponder solutions that can help put the series' fantastic racing product in front of more viewers.Race winner Kyle Kirkwood joins the show to chat about Andretti Global's success on street courses and how he was able to stay ahead of series point leader Alex Palou after the last pit cycle. The moment of the race was when Kyle managed to run competitive lap times on cold tires to keep ahead of the charging Palou, who made things interesting in the closing laps. The guys talk about the confidence Kyle will carry forward to Barber and the Indy GP with a win under his belt and how he hopes to close the points gap between him and Palou. Kyle explains how he hopes to improve on ovals this year and how he's learned to love that form of racing in recent times. The conversation also touches on the electric environment in Long Beach and looks ahead to the open Indianapolis 500 test.

“A mythbusting episode,” Ross suggested. “Great idea!” Sam and Jeff said. Then we blinked, and we had gone off-topic again, taped an entire show about 19th-century American cultural hegemony. What a corker! More specifically, we had taped a show about the life and times of a long-dead American statesman who also happened to be a strong supporter of the 18th Amendment to the United States Constitution, a.k.a. Prohibition.Naw—that's an exaggeration. We wouldn't do that to you. This episode is about *20th-century* political hegemony. (Everything else above stands.)Still here? Good! Everything above is a fib, a gambit designed to root out the nonbelievers. Except the “mythbusting” part. Dale Earnhardt Jr. sets out to learn more about the world of open wheel motorsports as he sits down with the CEO of McLaren Racing Zak Brown. Big news brought the open wheel executive to town as McLaren joined Hendrick Motorsports in announcing that Kyle Larson will return to the Indianapolis 500 in 2025 for another attempt at the Memorial Day double. Zak explains how the partnership with Rick Hendrick came together through an adoration for his race team, which he views as a North American equivalent of McLaren. He also credits Larson's versatility with being reminiscent of yesteryear's drivers like A.J. Foyt and Mario Andretti. As McLaren continues to flourish open wheel racing, Zak says his sights are set on becoming a top-outfit in the sports car ranks, competing in both WEC and IMSA in the future.Zak's background in racing can be traced to the 1981 Long Beach Grand Prix, which he attended with his parents and brother. A successful appearance on Wheel of Fortune when he was 13 and advice from Mario himself led to a door opening in go-kart racing, which Zak entered and never looked back. After finding a knack for securing sponsorship, Zak realized he was better fit on the marketing end of the sport and started his own company, Just Marketing, Inc., which quickly rose to being one of the top businesses in racing. Zak would sell the company and find himself at a professional crossroads before being faced with the ultimate career decision: be in line to one day run Formula One or help direct McLaren Racing. Thanks to his love of competition, Zak took the position at the legendary race team and helped it return to its former glory at the forefront of the racing world.Dale and Zak share one strong common thread, through Dale Earnhardt Sr.'s 1980s Nova, which currently resides in the JR Motorsports garage. Zak was a longtime owner of the vehicle before Dale Jr. was able to acquire it through auction, and he shares an incredible story of how he was able to confirm its authenticity.
The Race Formula E podcast takes an in-depth look in to a tempestuous weekend at Berlin Tempelhof where Nick Cassidy and Antonio Felix da Costa triumphed amid a hail of carbon shards and intra-team and manufacturer recriminations. The Race team explain why the racing was so fraught and what the slow-build and then quick burst peloton style of racing means for Formula E's future. The bigger picture of what Cassidy's bumper points haul means for the title race is also analysed, as is how his teammate Mitch Evans might be able to haul himself back in to contention after a tricky weekend in Germany. Oliver Rowland's continued impressive form is discussed alongside how it might be affecting his teammate Sacha Fenestraz. A round up of the news includes a likely all-female test at Valencia in November and the latest possibilities for new venues in the much debated 2025 calendar. Hosts Sam Smith and Andrew van de Burgt also pointlessly reminisce about the 1983 Long Beach Grand Prix, Jean-Pierre Jarier's erratic form and why Smith randomly stole a packet of Haribo from a private jet. Curt makes the point that the race at Thermal could lead to more sponsorship deals being made at the race with wealthy businesspeople. Kevin rounds out the first hour looking at some tweets, answering questions including if NASCAR buying the Long Beach GP was overhyped. They also talk about the amount of money going towards the IndyCar race at Texas. In the second hour of the show, the two revisit the power of a show like 100 Days to Indy, and preview their segment with Mark Montieth. Later in the second hour, former IndyStar writer Mark Montieth joins the show to talk about a new book that Angelo Angelopoulos wrote back in the 60s about Bill Vukovich that was never released. Montieth talks about some of the things he had to change about the book, and how there was not a whole lot that needed to change. He also gives an overview of the book.
