For many of us, our stories begin with amateur racing in SCCA, and our guest is no exception. Full time-secretary and piano teacher by day, by the age of 26 she moonlighted in racing behind the wheel of a Ford Pinto which doubled as her daily driver. Quickly moving up the ranks, she fought alongside names like Haywood, Stuck and Ribbs in Trans-Am and IMSA. She would take home titles in races like the 12 hours of Sebring, 24 hours of Rolex and 24 hours of the Nürburgring. In 1992, the mold wasn't just broken… it was shattered, and at the age of 45, proving that neither gender nor age matter in Motorsports - she entered the Indianapolis 500, earning the title rookie of the year. We are proud to welcome, the one and only, Lyn St. James to Break/Fix.

You may have been introduced to Ernie Francis Jr. this past summer thanks to SRX, but there's much more to his story. The seven-time Trans-Am champion joins Davey this week (13:30) to discuss how he got into racing, his father's origins in the sport, sanctioning bodies bending the rules to let him race, the dynamic working for his dad and why he likes to tinker and work on cars. He gives a primer on what the Trans-Am series is about and it's importance, why it's lost popularity over the years and winning his seven titles (in a row!) at such a young age. He also dives into his time running SRX this summer, how he got the invite from Ray Evernham, influence from Willy T. Ribbs, his victory over Scott Speed at Lucas Oil Raceway and how it feels to see fans wear his merchandise. Plus, why he stayed with Tony Stewart in his motorhome during the Knoxville Nationals, how it felt rubbing elbows with racing legends, how he adjusted to running short tracks with a road course background, his time in NASCAR with Rev Racing and why he thinks things didn't work out, whether or not he'd still like to run in stock cars or IndyCar and what his 2022 racing prospects may look like. Davey also briefly recaps Kyle Larson's Texas win, weighs in on the playoff vs non-playoff driver debate, previews Kansas and Papa Segal gives an ode to the man named Mikey.

He's not just a humble man with gray hair, an old Goodyear hat, and red suspenders, Will Cronkrite is a former NASCAR crew chief and car owner full of amazing stories that Dale Earnhardt Jr. wants the world to hear. His #96 car gave Dale Earnhardt what many consider to be his big break in NASCAR and Dale Jr. gets the low-down on how it all happened. As a "scrawny kid" he stood in his father's truck at Cronkrites shop as they readied the car for the World 600, a part of Dale Jr.'s life that Will brings to life in this fascinating conversation. The story was so much more! How did Willy T. Ribbs and Humpy Wheeler help create a chance that would springboard The Intimidator's career? Cronkite details the early days of a father and NASCAR Hall of Famer. Cronkrite's life changed with the tragic death of his wife and children. It was at this moment that everything pivoted to Auto Racing. He took his intense work ethic and desire from the cornfields of Ohio, to Indianapolis, and eventually the top-ranks of NASCAR. Along the way, he worked with legendary drivers like Benny Parsons, David Pearson, Donnie Allison, Mark Martin, Ricky Rudd, and more. He also worked around some characters, like tough Minnesotan Joe Frasson. Cronkrite shares a crash story for the ages with Frasson, bloodied, insisting on Cronkrite taping his hand to the steering wheel. Before he arrived in the southern stock car world, Cronkrite experienced a different side of racing in the Chicagoland area. He reveals how things were different in racing up there and how he was rewarded with diamonds for good performance. He also tells the tale of a gruesome fight that led to jail time and the fear of what was to happen when he was sprung by a "connected" individual involved in the racing operation. It's a story you have to hear to believe. Cronkrite talks about many racing topics from DiGard Racing, to working with a gutsy racing pioneer named Janet Guthrie. He also shares stories from his months working on the hit Burt Reynolds movie Stroker Ace, including when Dale Sr. shook down the Chicken Pit Special. The colorful Cronkrite tells a story about actress Loni Anderson and a lucky penny that he still has to this day. Before bringing in Cronkrite, Dale and co-host Mike Davis have an open discussion about how "me" turns to "we" after marriage. In AskJr presented by Xfinity, we find out what Dale Jr. predicts for 2022 with Roush Racing and new co-owner driver Brad Keselowski. He also talks about going radio-style at the Glen and the origins of his popular skeleton driving gloves. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Standing at the precipice of his final race, Scott Pruett visits the Marshall Pruett Podcast to discuss his life growing up in Northern California, his family's heavy influence in the 50-year career he's about to close, the extreme importance karting played in his development, getting his first shot as a pro in sports cars, the move to Jack Roush Racing that changed his world, the fierce—and sometimes fisticuff-laden--time in IMSA GTO and Trans-Am with Willy T. Ribbs, Paul Newman, and other legends of the era, and his one-off Formula 1 test with the Larrousse Calmels team in 1987. Part 2, spanning his time in IMSA GTP and IndyCar, will be the subject of the next recording with the 57-year-old phenom, and more episodes will follow to capture his peerless career. Poor ticket sales, finance issues, Russian athletes banned. The Paralympic movement is facing a testing time ahead of the Rio Games. We hear from Tatanya McFadden, the American parathlete who has reportedly pledged $1000 out of her own pocket to buy tickets for Brazilian children. And, we hear from disappointed Russian Paralympian Irina Vertinskaya, and Lord Holmes who was the director of Paralympic Integration at the London Games in 2012. Struggling to Cope: Life After Football Regi Blinker, the former Dutch international who played in the English Premier League for Sheffield Wednesday and in Scotland for Celtic, retired 13 years ago. Since then he founded and continues to run the successful Life After Football magazine. The publication is dedicated to the professional game in which the worlds of fashion, art and football collide. The Problematic State of Aussie Sport: A record rugby union defeat to the All Blacks, swept by Sri Lanka in the cricket and an Olympic medal haul lower than London 2012, an Olympiad recognised as a low point for Australian sport. So what is wrong with Australian sport (Golf and Jason Day, you are excused from this debate). There was a time that Australian tennis ruled the world. Take the US Open which starts this week. Australia have provided more winners than any other country bar America, but now Aussie tennis talent is thin on the ground. Former AFL player and coach of the last successful Australian Davis Cup team Roger Rasheed joins us. Sporting Witness It is 25 years since Willy T Ribbs became the first African-American racing driver to take part in the prestigious Indianapolis 500. Sometimes compared to Muhammad Ali because of his cocky character, Ribbs had talent but struggled for years to get sponsorship and a decent car to drive.
